Where is the best place to get microSD cards?
I have checks a few places and to get a 32gb class 10, is still over $100

What is the best "class" of SDHC card for the Atrix?
I am sure Class 10 would be best, but if there is no performance benefit I would get a Class 4.
So, does anyone have performance benchmarks of different class cards in the Atrix?
Thanks!

My class 4 works with no issues

What is the recommended Micro SDHC Class for Atrix?
Even though it may support class 10, it might not be able to take complete advantage of it. Does anyone know if it results in significant performance gain over a class 6 or even a class 4 SDHC ? Links to articles from respected blogs/websites would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

+1 Don't waste too money on getting a class 10. Hardly any noticeable difference u'd find. Class 4 should work pretty good.

it may not make a huge difference while it is in the phone but if you take it out to load and unload data it will make a difference there....

How would class 4 be for HD recording?
Thanks

Newegg has some for under 40

Exactly! It is for this reason I prefer faster write speeds. Cheers.

provantage had lexar 32gb c10 on sale for 75 (82 shipped) a week ago, picked it up since it was 90+ everywhere else. no big difference from that and the old c6 i had that i have really noticed while in the phone. not a big fan of the adapter that came with it.

There's pros and cons to getting Class 10 cards.
From what I read, Class 10 offers the best read/write speeds so this is a positive point.
The problem is, the random access performance of higher class cards is not as good as the lower class cards.
Some users have stated that Class 10 cards in their Android devices have created lag, which is attributable to the lower random access performance.
Personally, I'm using a Class 4 32GB Transcend card and so far I've not experienced any problems. I did use a Class 10 16GB Kingston and it my Play did suffer some lag.
I think the main advantage of higher class cards is performing file transfers between sources, as the higher write/read speeds would indicate.
yes that is true some people say that there class 10 cards give them lag in games.
i have a class 10 memento card in mine but i havnt had any lag issues
but i do notice that transfering large amounts of data
and loading games times are faster on a class 10

If you look on the microSDHC card, it will have a circle with a number in it. That is its class.
If there is no number, it is Class 2.
I bought a class 10 Lexar 32gb microsdhc and i was shocked when i put it in my play. It was lagging in all the gameloft games most noticeably in Sacred Odyssey. I returned that and bought a 23gb Kingston class 4 and i have no problems with that .
I think its because the card had problems reading lots of small files, i noticed that when i was copying my data over the speed was coming down to 1mb!

I am personally using a Samsung 32Gb class 2 card. It works very well, no noticeable lag in any of my games, be they Gameloft or Fpse. I have a Sandisk 32GB class 4 card I plan to move to, just to lazy to copy everything over right now.
Im using a class 4 sandisk i got from amazon uk for £49.99 no problems here. One thing i can warn you about though is dont go for a class 2 card because if the xperia play ever gets 720p video recording a class 2 card is not going to cope and you will have a loss in recorded frames.

It's not that bad, and digital zoom (which is the only zoom phone cameras get..'cept for that one japanese one..) is just as effective as zooming into your picture after you've taken it. It's a useless, garbage feature, and everyone who misses it should be ashamed.

well digital zoom is pretty ****ty anyway, it is pretty much zooming into the full size image live and then cropping it and enlarging it. You get better results taking a full frame image and then zooming and cropping on your pc.
I also have read in other places that the play is capable to 720p.
Sony usually likes to keep thing hidden so when they release an update you stop raging for a while because there are pretty new things that the device has always been capable of.
I use my 32gb I got from my Thunderbolt. Which is a class 4 and I have to say it works like a charm and way better than its 8gb class 2.

Actually that's incorrect I found out the other day. Sandisk has released a 64gb microsdxc card that has apparently been found to be compatible with the sgs2.
Copy pasta:
Class 4 or Class 10? Depend upon what you want it for
Class 2 and 4 cards have better random access speed and random read/write than class 6 or 10 cards in general. To get higher sequential write speeds, manufacturers sacrifice the random access speeds. That's just how it is.

So if you want to use the microSDHC card for photos, music, or video, then you may be better off with a class 10 card. If you want it for Readyboost, smart phone, Nook Color running Android OS, or other device that requires fast, ramdom access, then you should buy a Class 2 or 4 Sandisk flash card.

I picked up 3 sanDisk 32gb class 4 cards on amazon the other night for $16.40 a piece. I thought I would never see them and would end up getting a refund, but they showed up two days later. They were sold out from that seller (he had 20) within minutes. Right time at the right place i guess.

Is class 10 SD card necessary?

From what I understand I would need the class 10 card if I want to record HD video. If I am not going to record video can I get away with class 4?
Thanks for any help!
You do not need a class 10 to record HD Video, a class 4 does the job perfectly well. I had a 32GB class 4 sandisk and it was fine.
I've heard that for smartphones, Class 10 is even worse than lower classes.
That's because class 10 has fast block reading speeding. The problem is that it comes at a price of slow random access reading. If you want to play high bitrate movies from the SD card, higher class will be better for sure. However for day-to-day usage, lower class might make the phone feel faster.

class 4 is good enough for video recording.
iirc, 1080p video on the note is recorded at a bitrate of around 17mbps or so. convert that from bits to bytes and its something like 2.125mb/s minimum required to record videos at 1080p. so anything higher than a class 2 should be fine for playback and recording (unless you encode at a silly bitrate).
the only time i could see anyone really needing the faster class speed would be if you wanted to take 8mp shots in rapid succession. depending on the colour tone of the image you intend to take, the file size can go up to 3mb. at that point, your photos per second will be limited by the speed of your memory card. ie. class 4 = 1 photo per second, class 6 = 2 photos per second, class 10 = 3 photos per second maximum.
Be careful in stores. Went to best buy last night for SD card. Class 4 cards only in phone section but at class 10 price from camera section. Also shelf had classes mixed up only sorted by gb. So pay attention to what your getting

microSD Class 10
What about if you will move (apps2SD) games like Sentinel (TD game) in the microSD, is it necessary to go for c10?
I'm confused on what to buy, c4 or c10.
Need your help!
For me it is. copying movies from PC to my SD card is just painful on class4.
I see that some good class10 cards can write at 20mb/s (sequential), which is 5 times as fast as my current class4 sandisk (4.1mb/s).
The only thing that is holding me back is the price. Once the price comes down a bit ill definitely grab a c10 kingston 32gb.
What about for games you move to your external sd card? Will performance decrease with a c4? Much better with c10?
What can you say about the Ridata 32gb class 10? Is it any good compared to transcend or kingston or sandisk?

As for brand you should look at the particular model rather than judging by just the brand. For instance the sandisk mobile ultra (class 4) beats many of the other class10 cards

When I switched from a class4 32GB sandisk to a class10 32GB Lexar, I noticed the smartphone working faster and snappier, probably APP2SD in gingerbread and pictures and videos in the gallery has something to do with that change in response.
In my experience with memory cards and professional equipment, not only we shall choose for class ratings, but also for trusted brands, like sandisk, lexar and transcend.
To sum up, class10 is better than class4, and if the diference in price is not very high, totally worth it, but, there is a lot more difference in daily use between a galaxy note and a HTC Desire.
Class 10 is for marketing, it's totally not needed for smartphone with internal memcard.
You might want to read this thread on why class 4 is better suited for smartphone use.

128GB cards will work, as to when they'll hit the market who knows. I'm hoping no later than October-ish this year, which would be one year after the 64GB cards. I will get one at release regardless of cost and confirm they are working in various handsets for everyone. Cannot come soon enough for me, had my 64GB since a few days after they were released and just not adequate for my needs.
The Galaxy SII Skyrocket is only rated to handle a 32GB microSD card, but easily works w/64GB microSD cards also.
So I'd be willing to bet the SIII would do just fine with a 128GB card.

uhs is only supported if the card reader supports this feature, sandisk also mention about this.
you can still use the same card in a non uhs compliant reader, but will only get the class 10 specification and speed.

It would be handy for people that want to play blurays either on their phone or through the HDMI out. Or for audiophiles that listen to lossless audio which takes up around 10 times the storage (which sound absolutely AMAZING with the wolfson DAC and voodoo). Or maybe they just want to never run out of storage?
A 32 gb card will only hold around 100-150 lossless songs, and an avg size mp3 you could have around 1000-1500. A HQ bluray rip avg size is around 8gb, which can only be played on SDXC because regular cards aren't formatted to allow playback of files over 4gb.

best class of SdCard to get

Hey everyone,
I'm thinking of getting a 32 microsd. Card for my S3. I was wondering if a class 10 is necessary or would a class 4 or 6 be sufficient?
Thanks.
Class 6 is sufficent I read somewhere that class 10 is good for taking pictures or something but for this phone class 6 is enough.
It depends on what you'll be doing. Personally, I'd go for a UHS-1 class card. They're just above class 10. Sandisk has a 32GB one for about $40 on Newegg.com. That's what I'm using right now. It has been awesome thus far.
uhs are useless for this phone, no phone on the market supports this feature.
just get the best you can afford, anything above class 4 is enough, but prices aren't much different, so a class 6 or 10 can be in reach.

That might be the case on the international version, but when I'm taking pictures my UHS card it certainly seems to record them faster on my US - AT&T version. I wonder if anyone has done any any read/ write benchmarks to see for sure.
But I do agree, unless you have a need for speed, anything over class 4 should be good for everyday use.

i standby what i said, no phone supports uhs, unless you can prove otherwise.
What about if you use it as USB mass storage? Or making backups

i personally have about 10 class 10 16gbs, and around 12 class 10 32gb, and 4 class 6 64gbs. granted i use only 3 or 4 of them i just have a alot extra. i sued to work at best buy mobile and came up on a lot. couple months ago best buy sold a class 6 64gb online for $45. keep an eye out and look for deals. i do see a big difference in the class of cards. i usually have music and various roms and what not.

it's not the card, it's the phone thats preventing the card to reach the limit.
a class 4-10 will work on the s3, you won't notice much of a differences.
---------- Post added at 02:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:06 PM ----------
if you want the fastest card on the market, but not for the S3, you only choice is the sandisk microsdhc extreme pro with upto 95mb/s transfer speed and only available so far 8GB and 16Gb.
or you can consider the adata microsdhc premier pro read 45mb/s and write 40mb/s available in 8gb, 16gb and 32gb.
as with both cards you need a uhs reader to reach the stated speed, otherwise you will only get max read 25mb/s and write 23mb/s which is the standard speed set for sdhc.
Class 6 is the sweet spot

class 4 is better for every day, random use
class 10 is better for downloads and recording/playback of large files and HD movies
