It appears that the lapdock is running a modified Ubuntu distribution, so once we figure out how to get to a terminal with dpkg, you should just be able to write a Linux/ARM program.

[Q] Use WM-Phone as Input Device for Windows

Hi there
I'm looking around for a decent app, which allows me to use my phone as an input device for Windows. A program which adapts to the currently activated program on the pc by showing an array of keys for shortcut functions.
Pretty much like the "Optimus Aux keyboard" of artlebedev (Sorry, can't post link)
Or: Imagine a toolbar, adapting to the task you wish to do.
Does anyone know if similar apps already exists?

This depends solely on which phone you have.
Also try going to forum.xda-developers.com and scroll down to your particular phone and search thier general forum for it, mainly because chances are someone already has asked or talked about this
I don't think any Android phone will support USB to Video adapters. Some android phones have hdmi or video out capabilities. But those types of USB to Video adapters need special drivers which I don't believe are available for Android OS.

I think that too, but there are drivers for linux and then android should make it work. I was just wondering if anyone tried.
here i found a list of the devices that are compatible with displaylink:
w w w.displaylink.com/shop/index.php?product=5
and in "download driver" are drivers for linux.
someone know if the driver for linux works for android ??
Pd: If a linux based router can: w w w.engadget.com/2009/05/18/displaylink-for-linux-turns-a-humble-wireless-router-into-a-beau/
why android cellphone or tablet cant.
also i found an app ($1,99) that allow to convert ipad screen into a new display for a computer through wireless, is there some app like that for android??

Android runs on top of a modified linux kernel, but it's not a true linux distro, so it can't run linux apps or drivers. Something would have to be written special. Maybe if you can run ubuntu off your device, you may be able to do something. What device do you have that has USB host?
Also, if its not USB 2, you may not have enough speeds to transfer. I think sending video output through usb would take a lot of processing power, which it may not be worthwhile with a phone.
What device do you have and exactly what are you trying to do... If I knew what you're trying to do, I might be able to help. I'm good with stuff like that.
You could maybe just get a DLNA adapter and wireless send video to a monitor or TV, instead. I'm not sure what you are exactly trying to get accompliched. give more details.
I bought a SmartQ t10, that still doesnt arrive, I bought it for the screen and battery, then i saw this adapter, so im seeing if can get video out.
I found a mailing list where a guy with a motorola droid (who managed to switch to USB host mode) trying to do this.
w w w.mailinglistarchive.com/html/[email protected]/2010-07/msg00073.html
according to what I understood you should enable the auxiliary output video and change the driver to operate with mobile device processor.
here i found how to do it:
sites.google.com/site/voyageofbeagleboard/Home/displaylink-for-android
Code:
DisplayLink for android (latested version)
How to build displaylink driver for android
Displaylink is asic vender for USB-DISPLAY converter. It's is little slow, but expand your gadet example for android based equipment. So I modified the displaylink driver called udlfb for android.
How to build
- prepare android source code. I checked on beagleboard and android2.0
- extract and replace files with framework-core.tgz under framegework/base
- extract and replace files with kernel.tgz under kernel
- rebuild kernel and android
Description of tar archives
- framework-core.tgz
Import mouse and touch features support from android-x86 project . This is depend on android2.0 eclair
Touch features is following as:
Touch the right corner on and off touch feature.
[HOME] Touch the status bar
[MENU] Touch the status bar from left to right
[BACK] Touch status bat from right to left
- kernel.tgz
udlfb driver for android. Original udlfb driver source code is in latest linux driver/stagine/udlfb
Add double size frame buffer for pan_display
Add pan_display function
Make maximu resolution 1024x768. Original code support much more high resolution, but It cause crash under memory allocation.
Contents of tar archives
framework-core.tgz
==============================
Import usefule function from android-x86
core/java/android/view/RawInputEvent.java
include/ui/EventHub.h
libs/ui/EventHub.cpp

services/java/com/android/server/KeyInputQueue.java
services/java/com/android/server/WindowManagerService.java

drivers/input/touchscreen/Kconfig
drivers/input/touchscreen/usbtouchscreen.c
DisplayLink driver for android
drivers/video/Kconfig ->add configuration
drivers/video/Makefile ->add udlfb/Makefile
dotconfig -> .config example
drivers/video/udlfb/ -> driver
this will work??
If your phone does not have USB host mode you can modify your kernel to support it. Then it's a case of getting drivers, which may or may not be difficult.
Yes, i found that too, usb host for nexus one: sven.killig.de/android/N1/2.2/usb_host/
i guess that work for any device.
but I'm interested in that first run the driver already having a device with USB host, because is there more research about getting usb host or usb otg
Here is a android 1.6 driver from the opensource .
http://libdlo.freedesktop.org/wiki/
or
https://github.com/magoroku15/DisplayLink-driver-for-android
Any one know how to use it or update it to work on newer android ?
Gingerbread has very good compatibility mode so it "could" run there.

I've been researching the same kind of thing. I have an android head unit that I want to show everything I see on my roof screen but so far no luck. I have tried UBS to RCA and UBS to VGA adaptors but so far no luck. I even thought maybe something like android to android screen share like 'say' mobile-phone to android-tv-box and connect the tv-box in the car and share my Android head-unit to the tv-box but I can't find an app that works with doing that either.

[Q] WinRT tablet as second monitor via Wifi?

Has anyone out there heard of any apps for WinRT that enable you to use the Surface or other RT tab as a second monitor via wifi? I'm thinking along the lines of DiplayLink, Air Display, MaxiVista, etc. for iPad.
I really need something like this, and if no one else is doing it, I'm going to have to put my dev shoes back on and write one. I can't beleive that this hasn't been done yet, but maybe there are some barriers on the WinRT OS side that make this tougher than I'm assuming?
Cheers.

Id pay at least 10$ for this app- and im sure that a lot of others would be willing to do the same. Allow me to use my ipad as a 2nd monitor with my Surface - Id pay 20$
You should be able to install a virtual graphics card (similar to http://www.zoneos.com/zonescreen.htm) and then extend the virtual display it gives you over VNC to the VNC client on Windows RT.
I haven't tried/played with that, though.

This looks intriguing - but the warnings about windows 7 blue screen have me a little worried to even attempt to use it using windows 8. Id love to hear if this works - Im not willing to be the guinea pig - I had enough problems getting windows 8 to work on my Thinkpad with unsupported AMD ATI graphics drivers. As it is - I lost all of my power settings, and have no idea how to get them back - Ive seen a forum post recommend a repair installation of windows 8, but I am not confident. I have everything working, all of my software works, my RDP works, I just don't want to screw it up now.

[Q] creating zooper widgets on desktop?

i have been using zooper widget pro for a while now and i've been wondering if it's possible to create these widgets on a desktop for ease of configurations and so on? i searched for a thread on this but came up with people referring to the phone desktop not a desktop PC/mac/nix machine. possibly using android studio? i know that android studio is used to package your sets/widgets into apk format but it would help some of us who wish to develop more widgets for zooper if we could use the desktop for speed purposes.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

I searched for the very same thing. I don't think you can because in virtual environment you don't have access to the sensors of a device. I could be entirely wrong! But I've tried creating a virtualBox android and the app will not install on it.
But .. I'm assuming that you're wishing to do this because it gets cumbersome to just sit on the phone and do it. Correct? If this is the cause there are three options for you. One is paid the other two are free. The paid one is VMLite VNC Server and you run that on your phone and connect to your phone using any VNC client. The first free one is Mobizen for the phone part and the PC part you have to get the Mobizen beta PC client. And the second free option is WiFi Keyboard + Screen Capture, just read the description in the Play Store. The second is a bit tricky to set up. I had to play around with it for 20 or so minutes and have had the best luck being on USB with it although it will work WiFi.
I hope this gets you further to where you want to be!
Having saw this post and tried both methods I couldn't deal with the lag so I used another method. I made a tutorial about it here if either if you are still interested.

Question Do you still need an official ASUS dock/hub for game genie mouse and keyboard?

Looking to buy either the ROG Phone 6 or Lenovo Legion and the main point against the ROG Phone is that I can't find the official dock. I know with the 3, you had to get an Asus branded hub. Is this still the case with the 6? Or will any USB-C hub now work for mouse and keyborad mapping?
You should be able to use 3rd party hubs with no issues. Bluetooth key-mose as well. ROG is miles better than Lenovo..

Yeah, I know the actual phone itself is much better. But previously, the keyboard and mouse remapping to touch screen features required an official Asus hub, otherwise it simply did not function. Everything else, like KB/M support and external displays worked with any old hub, but that specific feature was locked behind Asus hardware.
I don't even mind about the overpricing of those hubs, just can't find one anywhere anymore!

If we talk Duel 2, maybe, if we talk Y90, absolutely not.
Also he is refering to the ability to be able to keymap, which the answer is no. I am in process talking with some ASUS employees to make it happen tho. It looks promising.
Has anyone found a way to map keys without the official dock or with 3rd party USB hub?
Is there only one way to play with keyboard and mouse?

Hello.
First we need to enable "USB DEBUG" in the phone's developer options.
Now we need to install "ADB" on the computer and then plug the phone into the usb port and trust the device. With adb installed and the device trusted, we can now run the following command:
"adb shell setprop sys.asus.donglestate_GV_PD 2".
The property value can be either 2 or 3. This "identifies" the Asus Dock and tells the system that it is connected. Depending on the phone model, there may be a variation of the property, it can be: "vendor.asus.donglestate_GV_PD" or "sys.asus.donglestate_GV_PD", in my case the second option corresponds to my ROG PHONE 5S phone.
The command needs to be run again in case you shut down or restart your phone.
Contents of my script:
#!/bin/bash
bash -c "adb shell setprop 'sys.asus.donglestate_GV_PD' 2"
My phone has Android 12 and everything works normally.
It doesn't need root or anything like that, it just simulates what would likely happen when plugging in the Professional Dock.
Now you can use your dock or usb-c hub with keyboard and mouse and be happy.
This is also possible to do directly on the phone using "Local ADB" but it is a bit more complicated.
Comment if it worked or not.
Thanks.
I have rog6 and android 13. It doesn't work for me. Maybe i'm doing something wrong. Idk

When using a 3rd party hub for video out, how do you account for the different aspect ratios between the ROG phone and the display monitor?

In most cases, selecting to keep the source aspect ratio on the native resolution of the monitor will give the best picture quality as always. Most TV's will however just blast the picture up to max possible size - but should however still maintain the device aspect ratio. The resolution of ROG phones is just FHD (~1080p), so fits well within most displays/TV's on the market today..
