[Q] Desire HD ROM on Desire tech question?? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Desire and Desire HD share the same arm CPU of 1Ghz, it is hard to get full board and chip-set specs of both.
My question is why there are lags when using a DHD ROM on the desire?

No, they have slightly different CPUs (chipsets).
Desire:
1 GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 200 GPU, Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon chipset,576 MB RAM

Click to collapse
Desire HD:
1 GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon, 768 MB RAM
Click to collapse
The CPU listed it as the same, but it is a newer architecture + more RAM = more juice.
Also, I'm using InserCoin HD port, and have no lags with that one.

I tried Reflex sense for a while but went back to non HD auraxTsense
I had no lag on reflex though - it was very good

I'm using owhne v4.2.3 , and have no lags with that one.

GPU overclocking ?

Hi,
i was wondering since i'm more in the PC area and i know more about overclocking that it can be done not only to gain CPU OC we can get also GPU OC.
Is it possible to get the same thing with the Sony Play ? since it does have a GPU so, can't we overclock that as well ?
regards,
LaBBa.
+1 Sice the Sensation GPU can be overclocked this may be able....
The xperia play does not have a dedicated GPU. Adreno the GPU is built into the CPU chipset thus overclocking the CPU also overclocks the GPU.
We have the adreno 205 GPU, the sensation is using adreno 220.

I know but it is the same architecure, 220 is just one version newer.

Why can't our phone run HTC sense 3.5 smoothly?

I just can't figure out why our desire z cannot run sense 3.5 smoothly.
Htc sensation XL: 1.5 Ghz, Adreno 205, 768mb RAM
My Desire Z: overclocked 1.5 Ghz, Adreno 205, 512mb RAM and 256mb swap
I'm thinking GPU issue here, the sensation xl can scroll rosie smoothly without needing ultra smooth patch.
Any way to improve gpu performance?
And even after activating swap, the phone doesn't really uses it to its full potential, it only uses up around 10% of the swap partition.
Any ideas to encourage the phone to maximize the use of the swap partition?
There is a lot more to CPU performance than clock frequency. The CPU on the Sensation XL is dual core, and probably a completely different architecture. I fully expect a 1.5 GHz dual core CPU to run circles around the G2/DZ's CPU, regardless of how much you OC it.

sensation XL is single core, same as DESIRE HD but higher clock

Still, the G2/DZ is MSM7230, and the XL is MSM8255. Even if single core, its a newer generation and not the same chip. And even so, a overclocked CPU is never going to perform as well as one that is factory clocked to the same GHz.
It is the same generation of processors, the one on the desire z just have a lower clock speed. Even with overclocked 2ghz, I can't get as smooth as sensation xl

Actually, if the only difference between two CPUs is the frequency, the overclocked one should out perform the stock one since overclocking boosts data buses as well.
So, in theory, my desire z should be better at running sense 3.5 then htc sensation xl?

No because the Sensation XL has 768MB of RAM....Desire Z has 384MB (Advertised as 512MB but not all is seen by OS)

Wouldn't that be assuming the CPU on the Sensation XL can't be overclocked at all? Seems like a poor comparison. I'd still bank on the 1.5 GHz factory clocked CPU over an 800 MHz one.
Sense 3.5 does run smooth for me. The only bad thing really is loading apps, and that's cuz of ram

I wasn't talking about the sensetion XL vs Desire Z. Their CPUs have architectural differences beyond the stock frequencies. Even if you overclock the desire Z to 1.5 GHZ, there are other factors like double channel for RAM etc.
Sensetion XL has a more powerful core with more advanced features. This is why clocking our phones to 1.5 is not giving the performance of Sensetion XL.

What u mean not all is seen by OS? I thought the 384mb is usable ram and the others were system resources?
My older desire has 576mb of ram, but shows 404 usable.
And also, doesn't swap give more ram?
Does vm heapsize help with making Rosie smoother? Mine is 48m for now..

Swap do give more ram,but a slow one..since its not from the hardware ram its just virtual ram..I said it slow because Android only use it when the real ram is running out..correct me if I'm wrong, srry for my English XD hope I do help =)

I use sense 3.5 on the virtuous afinity rom 1.48.1 and ist verry smoothly!
I use also the romcleaner bevor and moved by titanium some other app from my DZ.
Its for me the best combination without a ext3 part on the SD.
Greetings ivi

Smooth sense 3.5
I run Chef's RCmix 4.0 Energized blue edition as of today with supercharger script set to option 8. Very smooth, much better than stock. Remove some unnecessary apps, play with the Energy setting and you're good to go. No swap needed (at least for now).
+1 for virtuous affinity. Runs smooth from stock but with a few very simple tweaks it is very slick. Start with installing 4ext and partition/format everything as ext4. Then install the rom and enable the swap partition. With a mild OC of 1Ghz I find everything beautifully smooth without needing to use the 'smooth rosie' features in the settings.
Im now running Mik runny
I have All 7 pages full of widgets
120+ apps
supercharger option 7
supercharger 13
lagnullifier
swap
oc 1.5 ondemand
class 4 sd card
LAGGY
(Virtuous affinity is the most laggy for me)
(I can NEVER get a smooth unlock animation, NEVER)

I never liked the unlock animation... Got that disabled since I feel like it's a waste of resource and time... The lock animation is ok for me though....

58fps on Adreno 200

A few weeks ago, I sold my Desire and bought a Desire Z, cuz the Desire Z has better gpu, the adreno 205, which does 58fps on neocore. Recently, I while reading gsmarena's review of the HTC explorer, they benchmarked the explorer's GPU with neocore and it did 58fps, same as my Desire Z, but the difference with the explorer and the Desire Z is the gpu, the htc explorer has adreno 200, the one on the desire. When I had my desire, the neocore score was 35.1fps, gsmarena said htc boosted the performence of the Adreno 200. So I've been wondering, can the devs here boost the GPU performance too?
Explorer has lower resolution so that is the reason why it is faster than Desire.
Then how do u explain the wildfire s? It has adreno 200 and same or lower resolution then explorer, bur does 37fps
the CPU in the desire is better, the CPU can improve the graphics performance

Would the kernel make much of a difference? Afaik, the Explorer uses a 2.6.38 kernel compared to the 2.6.35 of the Desire/Desire Z

Maybe u guys could modify the kernels on the desire to get better gpu performance.
sebastian, there are many reasons for which the Explorer scores just as good as your Desire Z. One of them and possibly the most important is the fact that is has a way lower display resolution (as hb5 has already pointed out). The other important fact is that it has a MSM7227 CPU, while the Wildfire S sports a MSM7225A unit, which in comparisson with the 7227 doesn't appear to have any L2 cache or a FPU (math coprocessor). Factor in a few kernel optimizations here and there et voila - 58 FPS.
All Knowledge , Thank you

Will there be overclocking gpu support soon?

I was wondering if it will be possible to overclock the gpu , because my cpu of my htc one v seems to be insanely good , even ran the max 2ghz for few hours , then restarted when i moved the app the storage card, so could be just sd card bug or something , but i switched it back to 1.8ghz(245mhz idle) , anyway my quadrant score is quite low because of the gpu , because i hit 4,1k cpu score at 2ghz , and have seen other phones being able to overclock the gpu.
Hope to see the gpu overclock able soon, will make this phone even better

My can withstand the 2ghz constantly without overheat, but that is the cpu. The gpu is a different story.

This is a known issue with the Titanium kernel (KISS has e.g. the same values here as stock)
you can read about it in the kernel thread for this kernel
But I doubt that those benchmarks values make a noticable difference in daily usage
So if you need OC more then 1.5GHz just stay with Titanium.
If you think that I/O values will make your device slower use KISS kernel

max
PS: Regarding the original question
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710850
There you can read all about OCing the GPU
Common point at the end. They didnt found a way to do it
thanx for the reply, was just wondering about score , phone it selfs seems very fast and have no problems with it
ok so the gpu scales with cpu overclock then , must say ashalpt 6 plays very nicely

that guy did overclock hes gpu with 220 chip , maybe new ones can be overclocked only.

i am pretty sure i saw an app called "Dual" something on the LG P990 threads and it had the option to overclock the gpu*
*if the kernel supports it
sorry for digging up old thread, but... are there now any chances for OCing GPU?

no we're only adreno 205. Only adreno 220/225 supports OC.

How is the qualcomm sanpdragon s3 new
The new ones are Adreno 420, 330, 320, 305 etc.
on Snapdragon 400, 800, 600, s4 pro, other ones I forgot (805 for adreno 420?)

By default, yes. However I used TricksterMod to upgrade it to a Snapdragon 800. The device is absolutely flying now :good:
You can't "upgrate" S600 to and S800 , the S800 is a newer cheap - uses a newer Krait 400 cores which are more optimized and power efficient and on top of that it has a newer more powerful gpu - adreno 330 vs 320 on the S600/S4 Pro , also the S800 has a newer DSP embedded so it can decode 4K content.
clock to clock the S800 would be faster, and as the S600 wasn't design to run at 2.26GHz (highest bin of the S600 is 1.9GHz on the S4 , then the 1.7GHz on the HTC One, and finaly there is the Nexus 7 Which uses underclocked S600 with different branding) the S800 would be more power efficient .

I can't seem to understand the purpose of overclocking the flo. It's fast and smooth any way that you put it. Not to mention the potential damage that you can do to your precious tablets (especially from the extreme heat of the overclocked cpu & gpu combo).

My idea exactly. Hence I underclocked the CPU and GPU and don't notice any performance decrease.
