Screen replacements availability - Galaxy S II Accessories

Seems like we are getting very close to launch indeed, these guys apparently already have screen/digitizer available. Hopefully no more than a month.

I just hope Samsung is not going to **** on our face by locking the bootlaoder, this phone is a definite successor to my Captivate but if they lock it they can kiss my sale good bye fo-sure...just knowing samsung and their once-a-year updates I only rest my hope on community development for updates.

They don't have it yet.. Its reported as 'Coming soon' and its posted as LCD screen.

Seems off topic for this forum...but, yes.
So far I haven't heard anything about WP7 that makes it sound like something I'd want to wait for... And I'm tired of missing the apps/features that have come to Android and other OS, and not WM.

Mine was pre-ordered. I got a text from T-Mobile 2 days ago letting me know to expect my G2 to arrive within 7 days.
After actually reading that Oct 16 launch article in the link above, the only thing I can figure is that the G2 will be officially released to all customers. New or existing customers. The T-Mobile guy told me on the phone that it would be arriving at my house around the 6th. So, I dunno.. It would not surprise me any if it didn't come out till November 16th. Nothing about the phone companies ever comes as a surprise. But, I am still having fun customizing my TP2 and messing around with the xandroid on the sd card.
wow so there's people on here making off topic posts about the fisher price lookin OS too.

Following articles say G2 may be on sale any day now, or may already be available:

Not sure about the comment about not wanting to give up the ability to customize (like you can on the TP2). There is lots of customization available on Android, on an OS that is vastly smoother, more stable, and has tons of support from app developers.
One of the few things stopping me from going to Android, is the lack of a ATT-compatible handset with a hardware keyboard. And I might be willing to overlook the keyboard requirement.

Typing on a phone with a big screen like the HD2 is not that bad.
I'm thinking of going with the Desire Z (virtually identical to the G2).

People with iPhones have the same description of the screen keyboard: "not that bad". The screen keyboard is never described as "good". "Not that bad" isn't good enough for me. A hardware keyboard is simply faster, more accurate, and therefore a superior input method. It does result in a slightly thicker form factor, but that's a trade-off that is more than worthwhile, IMO. Especially coming from the best hardware keyboard on a phone (the TP2), its pretty tough for me to make a switch to a screen keyboard.

Poll for [Clove] Galaxy Nexus devices volume changing problem

Hi,
Clove has indicated that their devices have been through quality control check and hence 'should not' have the problem !
i wanted to have this poll to confirm that.
Please, this is just for CLOVE Sim Free devices
Still no response from their customer support though! I can't even cancel the pre-order.
3 out of 6 of CLOVE customers are having the problem already !!
that is not good !

It's 4 out of 6 actually. It is very likely that all handsets are affected. Percentages here and on the other thread are too high.
We simply have to hope that Google's 'patch' will mask it well enough.
I cannot believe how bad Clove customer service is, i have cancelled my order and still they send the phone to me, and they are not replying to any of my email i have sent to them,
Definitely it is the last time i am buying from Clove.

That's an uniformed judgement.. maybe 50% of the current software is constituted by masks. You should be able to make a case for that if you follow this line of reasoning
Can I ask WTF are people still buying these phones and then complaining
i just called the guy at Clove and he said that my order is by default on hold as they are waiting for an official statement from Samsung about a fix.
they official statement would be issued in few hours as per him.
after that they will send us email sharing that statement and asking us if we want to go ahead and for shipping or not .
i think it is a fair thing to do.
Official statement in few hours (Clove)
We just talked to an agent at clove technology. They said there will be an official statement in few hours about the discussed nexus issue. We have requested them to hold our order until we receive the statement from them.
Offical statement in a few hours by Clove or by Google/Samsung?
According to eurodroid fix expected in next 24 hours.

Why the hell would they continue shipping today then, if they already held the shipments yesterday? Clove is acting very weird.
It might be likely that the 'software patch' will not fix the problem at all and that they learned about it just now.

We are now pleased to be able to update you regarding the situation on the Galaxy Nexus and the issue regarding volume errors on some devices.
We tested the devices yesterday when they arrived and we did find the error in some of the phones but it appeared only to affect devices in poor signal areas using 900mhz frequency.
This was obviously of great concern so we were in discussions with various people and specialists yesterday morning to clarify the situation. We did not wish to make an announcement until a clear solution had been given by Google.
We can now confirm that Google were alerted early to this issue and have been working on a fix. It is software related and as you may have seen from various forum and blog posts this morning, they are now able to confirm that they will have a fix. It is NOT hardware related. We cannot yet say the precise date that this fix will be released but it is expected very soon.
The software update will be pushed out to devices by Google, free of charge, the moment it is available.
Given the discussions we had and this soon to be released update, we were happy to dispatch our devices, we simply could not make any official announcement until we had a clear solution.
We of course pride ourselves on the communication that we have with our customers and we were aware of the large number of enquiries we were getting about this yesterday from various media sources.
Whilst you may be frustrated by the way we have handled this, we have handled it this way to offer what we believe to be the best and most effective solution to the situation in hand.
For many of you, your device will now be on its way to you and the update will be following very soon.
We hope however you will understand that we wanted to give you clear and confirmed information before we made the announcement. We will of course update you as soon as we have more information.

Rogers & Purple Hue Update

As some of you already know, Rogers did not receive the 12085 firmware update which addressed the purple hue issue that all North American Lumias suffered from since their launch.
I tried reaching Nokia via twitter and Rogers. Nokia never replied and Rogers said they are still waiting for the firmware to arrive from Nokia so that they test it.
I then sent am email to Nokia and was told later on that someone from the Service Recovery department will call me. They called me yesterday and pretty much did not know when the firmware will be released and told me to set the brightness to medium and wait!!! I said why do I have to do that while the AT&T customers got treated in much more timely manner. Why are Rogers customers left in the dark?! The representative had no answers and kept telling me the same things I mentioned above.
I finished with her and decided to email Nokia's CEO. YES! Stephen Elop himself. I sent him an email and told him about this and how unacceptable it is given that our US neighbours got the issue fixed a month ago. I also told him how frustrated I was with the Service Department not knowing anything nor being able to help.
Guess what?! He replied to me while ccing a couple of people in the reply email. He apologized for this and told me that someone from his team will assist me.
I received a call today in the morning from the manager/head of the service recovery department and I was offered a brand new Lumia 900 from the newest batch which does not suffer from the purple hue issue. They will ship it to me soon. Later on in the day, Mr. Elop emailed me again and told me that he checked the firmware update's status and that it is now in Rogers labs being tested and that it should be released in the coming weeks.
I thanked Mr. Elop for his assistance and told him that I will keep him informed of these bugs harming the brand and their flagship device.
So now all you Rogers customers have an update on this issue. Hopefully you will get the firmware update soon.
That's good news. And shows how the power of one can move mountains. Glad you focused your energy in the right direction.

Elop said that the firmware is now in Rogers' testing labs and Rogers tweeted me back a while ago saying they are looking for an end-of-July release so maybe this will end up true.
I am still going to corner that manager and exert pressure just to see what she'll do given that she assured me like 5 times that the phone she is sending me does not have that problem anymore and I kept telling her are you sure? And she's respond saying yes.
I really find myself making them a favour by wasting my time giving them feedback so that they can better their sales/customer satisfaction!
Called the manager today and she was very apologetic since apparently the service center in New Market (Flextronics) sent me a phone from the old batch.
They are sending me a new batch phone now from Ajax which is where Nokia Personnel are.
Will keep everyone posted.

I'm self-employed, have a company to run, and couldn't go 1 hour without my phone (let alone 1-3 weeks)... It's simply not an option... Maybe I need to write Mr. President at Nokia and see what'll happen.
Received the new batch Lumia 900 today.
To my surprise, the firmware version is unique and nowhere to be found elswhere online. The same applies for the OS.
OS Version: 7.10.8779.8
Firmware: 2175.2301.8779.12222
The purple hue is fixed!!!! The marketplace icon is different than the 2 other Lumias I have from Nokia and I was able to update Nokia Drive to 3.0
So far, Nokia is doing very well in terms of service and customer satisfaction!

International - It's an unlocked "SmarTone" phone that I understand is out of Hong Kong.
I have an International release of the Lumia 900 (an unlocked Rogers device purchased outright from Hong Kong) and I'm on 8773.
I really do hope that Rogers release the firmware very soon because the keyboard disappearance has been annoying the hell out of me lately. The kbrd either disappears or TellMe pops up without any reason (and I find myself swearing at it)!
xsever, did you ever notice on your earlier 900 pictures you took looked fine on the screen but when the picture was taken it was noticably darker? How about your new version.. how's the accuracy of the camera? (Well done getting a new device by the way).

[Q] [SALES] US Launch?

Anyone here know if and when the Asus Zenfone 2 will launch in the US? There are mixed forums on the internet, MOST of which list April 2015 as the launch date in a bunch of countries ... 1 of which, is the US. Well, it is April now and I cannot find any official word about whether or not the ZF2 will launch in the US.

That is a nice phone, congrats!
The problem with me is I already bought the phone, but it came with the CN (Chinese) firmware. It's the exact same phone as the TW (Taiwan) firmware, except it has different band configurations ... which is a reason for me not having the 4G I already pay for on T-Mobile's network. I am now in the process of returning this phone and getting a TW version, but I read here on XDA where people were mentioning the Band configurations on different firmware ... ONE of which happened to be "US" firmware. Since the US version isn't out YET (or ever ....), I assumed that since the Band configuration specs for it are posted, then there MUST be a US variant ... THUS the question.
Btw, thanks for taking the time and emailing Asus ... if you did.

Right. I think there will be one, but they're kind of being dumb about it. :/ I really didn't expect an answer, but was hoping maybe they could throw a quarter or month or something my way. Was worth a shot, I guess. Like, if you want to sell a million phones, freaking let us know if it's actually going to come, and a general idea when. You'd think their marketing department would get that.

I totally aggree ... I think that there might be a big problem between them and US authorities (FCC, customs, etc) and even large flagship companies. Any company would DIE for the pleasure of having it so easy that they just release all their products in every region. There are different bands, radio interference, and general telecommunications laws varying from region to region. I assume it's not IMPOSSIBLE for a HUGE company like ASUS to get all of that sorted out, but then again it is all about $$. Their lowest sale point (according to their marketing dept.) was probably selected as the US ... which is why they are releasing it starting from countries where low/mid-range phones are more popular than flagships due to their price.

You're completely right actually, as even way back in the earlier weeks after the Zenfone 2 was announced, I saw such info on the Asus site. Said info was essentially 'fine print' at the very bottom of the page, where they stated that the phone wasn't FCC approved for the US and Canada, along with some other stuff...
I'm not from such regions so I didn't think it'd cause any issues, but with what you mentioned here about such barriers makes perfect sense why there's no official launch event for those countries yet. Once again, can't blame Asus for having such a hard time delivering this beastly device, with such things taking a jab at their profits.

It does suck ... but nothing should stop us!
Order it from eBay, the Taiwanese version is the best version out there, I believe ... in terms of 4G on TMobile, Play Store preinstalled, etc.
I will be getting mine within a week, will keep the threads updated. I am currently holding the 1.8GHz chip of the Chinese version which is only getting 3G, and no Google Apps pre installed. I am having a bit of trouble getting Google Framework/services on it at the moment. It seems impossible so if GearBest decides not to pay return shipping, I will keep it and root it ... that should get me through the door to Google apps.

Is this phone pretty much dead on launch as far as the dev community goes?

I got this phone mostly because the hardware specs were top notch and my old Zenfone 2 (Z00A) had amazing CM support and even an official bootloader unlock. The ZS570KL still has yet to get so much as a root. Going from CM to the bloated, ugly stock ROM hasn't been fun and I can't wait to get something better. I've prodded ASUS for info on a bootloader unlock and they have basically just said that they can't comment on a release date, or if it's even coming at all.
Is there any active development for this phone or is it just dead?
it's active, but what you see here, is all answered questions that we ask already, so there isn't much we can do , until we get from asus. And then alert every develop out there to start making custom roms for this phone.
I think many people like myself are waiting on the bootloader unlock before buying. If they are going to release it, it better be soon. Else they risk newer phones coming out that trump the specs of this phone that ARE developer friendly. This ship had almost sailed to be honest. What are they waiting for?

Yeah, I'm almost regretting buying it to be honest. I really expected it to be popular in the dev community especially given ASUS' history and that bootloader unlocks are already available for the non deluxe ZF3 and even the ZS550KL. The LG V20, the other phone I was heavily considering waiting for, came out almost a month after this phone already has some ROMs coming out.
This phone has amazing specs and design but is just let down so much by terrible firmware and a completely dead dev community. It's a shame.
Your absolutely correct. Such a shame that a beast of a phone goes quietly in the night. It would've been such an upgrade from my Nexus 6P.
My wild guess is that Asus will release our unlock around April-June when phones are starting to come out with the next snapdragon chipset and 6gig ram is all over the market. At that time, the qualities that make this special will be gone. I don't understand this logic at all.
I really like this phone but all the ways Asus tried to kill its success boggles my mind. The lack of an official bootloader when all their other models have one is just another nail in the coffin of an otherwise really good phone. I thought Asus had learned their lesson... guess not.
The 3 biggest reasons for failure in the dev community:
1. No Bootloader (yet)
2. Price
3. Availability
Its dumbfounding. Such a beautiful phone with amazing specs and Asus care absolutely zero about marketing this phone outside Asia. I had to buy it online because they decided not sell it in Canada. And even online the availability is limited to Taiwan only with every reseller getting it from there in short supply. I don't even think there is a north american model. Why not have faith in your brand? Asus said they didn't think the deluxe would do well in north america with all the competition so they abandoned it. They also thought the phone would not sell because its too expensive but then realized demand for it exceeded the supply and decided to increase production.

Seems like a surefire recipe for failure to me....
I have the SD821 versian, I had to pay through the teeth to get it then when it gets shown to others thet all want to know where to get it and how much it cost. Word of mouth is a great way to do business but the product MUST be available.
I had the subforum tab open to check up on this later, but I'm updating some software right now and noticed this post title... I still have the phone unopened in the box Amazon shipped it in. I guess this is Asus' loss releasing a phone during the only extended return period of the year. I've read a few negatives on the ZF3 Deluxe like low headphone volume and intermittent Bluetooth, but unlocking is what I want.
Since I have until the end of next month to return it to Amazon I figured I would pick up the OnePlus 3T and give it a try - free 15 day return period. I thought, what the heck - I paid more for the ZF3 so why not get the 128GB 3T? Added it to my cart and on the checkout page it gave an estimated date (was within 9 days). I wanted to see what I said the ETA would be on the 64GB model that was listed as shipping within 3 weeks and removed the 128GB model. Went to add the 128GB model back in less than a minute after checking the 64GB model...sold out and it's been like for the last 2 weeks. Talk about frustrating! I ended up ordering the 64GB model and figure I can just send it back to OnePlus when the 128GB's are back in but I'm afraid they still won't be available to order at the end of January. So here is this ZF3 D I don't think I really want. :/
jsheradin, you said the bootloader is unlocked for the other ZF3 models - any idea why not this version of the Deluxe?
If it made any sense, there would be no doubt Asus wanted the ZF3 to fail.

Yep, the unlock is available for everything but the 820 and 821 variants. I assume it's simply that these processors require a little more work to make an unlock utility for, but I'm just guessing at that point.

Actually, the Deluxe 5.5" (ZS550kl) screen has an SD820 and it has the bootloader unlock app. It's just the 5.7" ones that don't.

It does not. The ZS550KL has a single version and it is a snapdragon 625. It has the same processor as the non deluxe ZF3 (Z3520KL) which came out before the deluxes. They probably already made the unlock for the non deluxe and it required very little work to make it work for the 5.5 deluxe. The 820/821 versions did not have that luck and they likely have to make the unlock from scratch.
Hey, I agree with all on this thread. I have the Zen 2 deluxe SE with Cyangenmod and its a great phone. Purchased the Zen 3 but have yet to use it because I cannot root. I also read that Cyangenmod is no longer offering custom ROM or am I not understanding their changes? Does this mean the chances of a custom rom for Zen 3 is out? I also upgraded my wife's phone (S5) to the same Zen 3 deluxe (ZS570KL / 256gb hd / 6gb ram / 821 chip) and she hates it... calls keep dropping signal is low and it does not even say LTE. I did a speedtest comparison betwen her Zen 3 and my Zen 2 and it was faster. Hers is also disconnecting from cellular (AT&T) data and does not show 4G anymore along with no push notifications of emails.
Anyone else having these issues?
Joining in on the bandwagon to vent (really)... This was my # 1 phone to get in 2016, despite the lack of Quad HD screen (especially for the price), but Asus botched it BIG TIME! The price on the SD821 model, even more frustrating, the lack of availability, even during the holiday season, and of course, now announcing their new 2017 models, with no unlocked BLs or Root... what an opportunity missed! Would have been such a strong jab against the 3T, but they ruined it!
I bugged Asus again via email and received this response, again:
"Temporary we haven't got the accurate time the unlock tool would be released for this ZS570KL.
But we will transfer customers' wishes to the related department for further development.
Also please note that ASUS does not actually asssit with unlocking of the Android Bootloader. I must advise that you do so at your own risk, as once the boot loader is unloked it will void your warranty."
I'm just hoping there is an unofficial unlock at this point. The stock ROM seems to somehow get more buggy and slow day by day. Is anyone else having issues with the screen taking forever to turn on after using fingerprint/pressing the side button?

I used this form to submit it: https://vip.asus.com/VIP2/Services/QuestionForm/TechQuery?lang=en-us
I just said, "When can the bootloader unlock utility be expected to be released?"
They responded promptly yet disappointingly. Hopefully if enough of people ask they will finally get around to making/releasing it.
Does anybody know if there is unofficial unlock work being done?
If an unlock is ever made we just need to get someone who knows TWRP to build a recovery and ideally somebody from Lineage OS to start ROM support. I've built TWRP before for a different device and may be able to do the same for this phone but I wouldn't know where to begin to get a ROM working. I feel like no devs even know this device exists. :crying:

The biggest question we should all ask ourselves... "Why did ASUS build this phone in the first place if they didn't have a bootloader unlocker for it?"
