using vplayer as of yest
arc media wouldnt open any files. even mp4s that the stock media player would. weird.

moboplayer its not in marketplace http://moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html

QQplayer is also worth a look, auto scans your SD, and only presents you with video files to play, also saves your position on multiple files, so resuming playback, even across multiple videos, is easy.
w w w.appbrain.com/app/qqplayer/com.tencent.research.drop

Rockplayer is the fastest player with the best neon optimizations support as far as I know but now I'm not so sure anymore since I've read about Moboplayer... I definitely gotta give it a try, thank you infamous6622 for the tip

i'm using vPlayer too - not had any issues with it so far

vplayer only found 2 of the 5 videos on my card. when i tried to get it to rescan, it crashed! Am currently trying meridian, seems ok at the moment.

Zimly is an awesome Player!!

Another vote for QQplayer, it also does not need any special permissions whereas if you care to look at Zimly it wants to
"read phone state and identity
Allows the application to access the phone features of the device. An application with this permission can determine the phone number and serial number of this phone, whether a call is active, the number that call is connected to and the like."
as well as
"change Wi-Fi state
Allows an application to connect to and disconnect from Wi-Fi access points, and to make changes to configured Wi-Fi networks."
Call me a cynic but without knowing any more details of the above there's no way I'd install Zimly.

No sound from videos on pc

Hi,
I have wiped my desire as it was getting very full so I fancied a clean, I copied all my pics and videos to my pc and now they play ok but have no sound. This is very frustrating as I have videos of my baby boy laughing and playing now with no audio.
Please do you have any ideas as now there are a lot of memories destroyed.
Thank you for your time.

On your pc you can see that the video files also have an audio stream? (in properties) Do you have the codecs installed? (Try K-Lite Codec Pack).
If it's a codec issue on your computer, you might wanna try out VLC media player. It's free and to be honest I haven't come across a codec it didn't recognize.
I'd link their webpage but I can't yet, but simply google VLC media player and it should be the top result. Best of luck.
If you tried playing it through something like windows media player, it may well be a case of it not being able to recognise the audio codec. Try out VLC player like the previous guy said..

Best App for Streaming Video?

I have a collection of video files on my Windows XP PC that I would like to view on my A100 without downloading the multi-GB files to the Tablet.
What combination of PC server/Android player does the best job in terms of picture quality, user interface, file/format compatibility, etc.?
I use Gmote,it works great.you have the option to control the pc like a remote,or you can set it to stream from pc.uses wifi to connect.for my player i use Vplayer.

Thanks for the reply!
I don't understand how you use Gmote - what do you run on the PC?
I will give it a try and report back..
I have been using Playon for a few years now. there are some open source variations, I'll see if I can find some links for you later today.
Update on Gmote:
You install a small Gmote server program on your PC (Windows/Mac/Linux) and the Gmote client on your tablet. You then browse the media paths you have configured on the server. You select whether to play the file on the PC or on the Android device. If you select to play on the "phone", you have to select which player app to use. I had installed Vplayer, and selected it.
Update on Vplayer:
It works, but just barely. Lots of pixellation on my A100. It seems to be designed only for playing local files from /mnt/sdcard, doesn't even "see" /mnt/ext_card.

Me, too. I have the Playon server running on my Windows PC, and the free Playon for Android player "sees" the server OK. But I can't get the channels/plugins/files to play - there is no "Play" button on the Honeycomb screen!
Update:
I am having excellent results with:
- ES File Explorer to browse the media files on my PC. Once a film is selected, the File Explorer asks you which player to use.
- MX Player is the best option I have found so far. Very fast seeking, no pixellation.
Does anybody have good results with another program or programs?
Icestream is a great app to use to stream TV shows or movies. Works best with mx player or mobo player.

I also have used vital player for the device, but i dont have any problems with the Vplayer.im using the full version, idk if that makes a diff how the player is.

kascend video play not for tablet but it works great
even plays 1080p and mkv files
I am also having good results with Skifta (free on the Market). (www.skifta.com/)
The advantage with Skifta is it sees all of the media servers that are running on my PC (tVersity, Playon, Serviio) and lets me browse them for files and channels. For playback, I am still happy with MXplayer.
I use BS player. I can browse straight to my nas thru a file share and play a movie. No need to stream anything from a pc or upnp. Lite version is free and works great.

+1 for BSplayer. It includes hardware acceleration for Arm v7. It has gesture control for volume, brightness, zoom.
Nice

Any good apps for playing windows media files?

I cant seem to find one that works from the market and didnt see much in my search in this section. I used to use Arc Media player but that doesnt seem to work anymore. Most of them will play the file but there is no picture, just audio. Other files such as AVI seem to play fine with most of the players I have tried.

Use moboplayer. It supports all video codecs.

You can try moai video player. Its free of the market and plays almost everything. Also FVD video downloader will download videos to your sd card and has a built in video player.
Thanks for the replies I will give them a try
Crap, none of these worked so far.

I've generally had great luck playing any video format with mobo, including wmv.
I like MX Player. It has hardware decoding capabilities. If that doesn't work it supports multi core software decoding.
Rock Player plays just about anything
There's also a VLC player in alpha mode I think that may play it. Ill post it when I can.

Winamp and power amp are what I use. Pro versions aren't free though. The Google play version works as well. Not sure if it plays local wma files, but it definitely play wma files from its server.

The best HW media player for the One X

Anybody know which the best HW supporting media player is for the One X?
I really like dice player but it won't let me fast forward M2TS files :/
try bs player (my player of choice for hd content) or mx player.
I think alla other players than DICE player makes the HOX get hot .
I watch videos all the time using bs player and it doesn't get hot for me. Long story short though try those apps see which is best for you.
Dice player for me is awful there's loads of my media it doesn't play well (it struggles with the audio tracks mostly).
I think BSplayer is the best one! It plays everything! It even plays in HW-mode through network, which most of the other have serious problems with. And directly from rars too.
However, the only player we know for sure that's using the companion core is the built in one, but maybe power-saving isn't any concern? But with HW-decode on the other players, one should think the load should be low enough for the companion core, but who knows?
yup thats what I found, if you want something that just works with your media bs player is the one. I tried every player going for some of my media and that was the only one that handled the audio tracks properly etc.
I dont think any 3rd party players yet will be optimized for tegra 3 to use the companion core, the stock player does it so thats good it shows it can be done but there are not many devices out there yet with tegra 3 so 3rd party apps havent caught up.
No luck either on all players i've tried with fast forwarding m2ts files
Bs player was one of the best ones I found
However I think i'll stick to Dice player for now, everything seems to play smoothly. Just a shame I can't fast forward/rewind m2ts files
Have you tried Mobo player? It's free and so far has managed everything I have thrown at it...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Yeah i've tried that as well sadly, it doesn't like my m2ts files either
I'll have to find some way of muxing them to mkv cheers anyway
you could try format factory http://www.formatoz.com/ and I hear good things about video spirt (get the light version for free) http://www.verytools.com/videospirit/index.html
I am using mx player pro version and it is good. It can play all videos.

MXPlayer.
It's bad-ass. I haven't found anything it won't play (oh.... hang on, flv's! - but I don't have any)
+1 for MXPlayer. This app is awesome. Great quality video and support subs.
But what I like the most is that it can play file streamed from PC with very little buffering (depend on video size though). I really enjoy watching without having to transfer tons of files to the phone
Also an MX player user. Would get the pro if it was on sale otherwise happy with the free version.

I used mxplayer for a while but it struggled with Mkv with ac3, and in s/w mode it got hot.
I switched to dice and it not only plays Mkv with ac3 flawlessly but stays cool.
Watching 720p videos on this phone is just amazing... Sometimes it's better than watching on a big screen. there is more depth to the picture.

thats basically exactly the issue I keep having with it, loads of my media is MKV and most of it has AC-3 audio which mx player fails at. Sure dice works well for it but so does BS player
Either way there are good options out there, its just a shame that I ended up paying for mx player and vplayer etc only to have to use a free app (bs player) because they dont do as good a job

Hi.. Sorry I may sound noob but I've never knew we can stream videos from pc to HTC one X. Can you please guide me how to do so? And yeah I have MX player, if that is what's required.
Just share your movies as you would share any other folder, open it with a file manager from your phone and play the files (this is technically "streaming" but still you watch your movies without having to transfer them). MX does nice job but some files need to be played in sw mode when played from a network location.

Archos Video Player

Normally I don't really advertise for apps, but this one was pretty awesome. Its kind of like xbmc or boxee, so it can autosearch posters and info on your media providing its properly labelled. In my (limited) testing, it was able to play both (sd) avis and (sd & 720p) mkvs without breaking a sweat.
But where it really shines is it has built in support for smb and upnp drives! I've got a tb of videos on an smb share and before this, my go to way to play it on android was: browse smb on file expert, open video location as a link in the browser and then stream that link from mxplayer/vlc. That worked, but it was really limited (couldn't skip ahead or behind, couldn't resume after leaving the app, even just for a second). This archos player can do all of that. Definitely worth my five bucks because that's something I use almost every day.

Vlc is fine for stuff that's on my memory card, but its pretty limited when it came to playing files from my network shares. For example, it would freeze if I tried to skip ahead on the timeline or more annoying, if I left the app for any reason. Archos is more comparable to vlc on my PC with the network shares. I can skip ahead, exit out and fire off a text and it even saves my place in a video if I were to start watching something else. Not to mention its got its own in-app smb browser tha's super easy to use (maybe vlc has this too, I just had used file expert to find my files on smb, same way I always did with mxplayer before that)
