[Q] One Piece or Two Piece Case for Your HTC Thunderbolt? - Thunderbolt Accessories

Considering the design and weight of the Thunderbolt what type of case would you get?

I have both but I prefer the two piece because it ads less to the phone.

I have the shell/holster combo from Verizon. I've never used the holster, but I love the shell. It's thin and protects the phone well enough.
very happy with it. go check it out!

One piece tpu case all the way. Cheap, adds hardly any bulk, and is not to be confused with silicone

The Best Buy (Seidio) 2 piece case is great. I normally don't use a holster, but I love it now.

I've got the best buy 3 piece case and I really like it. But now my extended battery is worthless.

harder "crystal" silicone case
I bought the rubber / hard 2pc case from vzw and hated it so i returned it for the crystal silicone case. at first i didnt not like it because the buttons were a pain so i took a razor hobby knife and cut em out and it works perfectly!

I have the shell/holster combo as well and love it. It provides just enough protection to the back of the phone without a lot of bulk. I have a screen protector for the screen. I prefer a holster and case combo. I like seidio, but I personally didnt like how the two pieces met on the innocase I had for my EVO.

2 piece cases suck unless it's a slider like the seidio. Drop your phone with one of the snap ones and I bet it snaps off and your phone still goes sliding across the floor.

I'm using a two piece hard rubber case I got off of Amazon. Good enough for my needs.

I have the Red and Black one from Verizon... It is a solid soft case that is pretty thin and then adds another layer of hard plastic over that if you want it. I really like it.

Naked ftw sometimes if I'm going out (like hiking) ill bring my cases

Otterbox Commuter Case and Case Mate

I've been looking for a case that offers adequate protection while maintaining a relatively slim profile. My search has led me to the Otterbox Commuter Case but I would like to know how much protection it offers compared to the Case Mate with kickstand
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
The otterbox case is freaking great, I don't know how many times I dropped my phone and it's all good not a single scratch or dent. But it can't withstand throws like what my friend did to his when his girl pissed him off. Screen shattered.

Ya, Im talking about the commuter. The defender is too bulky as hell and ugly, but the protection from that is crazy, thats not really needed.
Edit: Case mate is also a good case, but I had that for my galaxy s fascinate and after a year the outer shell case started cracking i know its from me constantly taking it out of the case to pull out the battery. But still, the quality of the plastic is too crispy, it was cracking on both sides, like I left it out on the sun.
case mate
case mate tough case is good. i have a otterbox defender it was WAY TO BULKY. i switched back to my case mate and installed a zagg protector. i missed the thin profile

Yes I agree, trident aegis was my favorite until I got the tough. My phone feels protected but still fits in my pocket easily.
My Otterbox Commuter came in two days ago. I still haven't opened it yet because I'm trying to decide if I should send it back and get an extended battery instead. Anybody experience something like this? If so what did you choose?

I personally use the Otterbox Defender, being a contractor I absolutely need the "excessive" protection for my phone. Its taken a few falls off a 10 foot A frame ladder and been completely fine. If you want a step down, check out the Sedio cases as well. The case they have that offers protection similar to the Otterbox Commuter is great for the price. If you combine that with a good screen protector you're almost at the same level as the Defender.

Thats the Sedio case I'm referring to, the holster is junk but the case really isn't bad for mid level protection. Check out the others mention in this thread thus far as well, they are all good options.

Yeah the Commuter is a great choice, just figured I'd share my experience with Otterbox alternatives since Otterbox didn't make anything for this phone for a while. Extended batteries are overrated in my opinion, if one can't access a charger to give the phone a boost (if not a full charge) than I'd say those mobile power packs are a better investment. Unless you can find a good extended battery that still allows for a solid case, and if you find that let us know cause I'd like to look into that. That's just my take, I'd rather my phone lose a charge faster and still be in one piece haha. Cheers, let us know what you end up doing cause I'm pretty curious.

Not sure to be honest because I've only had the Defender for this phone. If it's still the hard plastic inside with the rubber encasing it, it's bound to lose its shape eventually. My Defender's rubber outside is starting to slip off the bottom right corner a little bit, but I don't use the holster so I'm sure putting it in my pocket doesn't help. That and the case really does get a beating! But my phone looks like it's right out of the Samsung box every time it's out of the case so I can't complain.

Trident Kraken A.M.S. or Otterbox Defender

I like the look of otterbox better, but tridant has the kick stand...so depends on what you think you'd use more. I had an otterbox on my phone for a while but realized the bulk was too much since I baby my phone. I'm sure same would be for the trident. If you drop ur phone a lot or do a lot of hiking with it, bulk it up....but otherwise it really takes away from the slim design.

I haven't seen an AMS until now, ordered mine. 34.95 on amazon.
I have the otterbox defender case. The back of my holster clip locks in so it can be a kickstand. Its very bulky but it works.

I have the trident aegis. With trident cases, the plastic is on top of the silicone when you put it on, with silicone sticking out on the corners. That way, the silicone doesn't easily stretch like it does on the otterbox. Especially if you take off your case on a regular basis. I have the defender for my ipod touch, and I've used it on other devices as well. In my opinion, the screen protector is horrible as well. The worst I've ever used(yes its worse than those cheap ones you can get off ebay in a 3 pack for 3 dollars). Trident cases also have dust covers over the mic and speaker grill, whereas the otterbox does not. So I say go with the Kraken. It would be worth it.

Thanks. I decided to but the Otter from BestBuy, and also order the Kraken online to try both out when the Kraken gets here. The first day with the Otter was terrible with the screen protector, but now it's a lot better, since I guess it either stuck to my screen better, or O got used to it. Does anyone know the quality of the built in protector for he Kraken? And also, one last thing, if I were to drop the Kraken, since the outside is; plastic, how durable is that plastic. Because the thing I like the most is he outside rubber for the Otter.

Just got my Kraken today, absolutely love it. As for the screen protector, I threw it away, didn't even bother with it. I've had ghost Armor on all of my phones as well as my wife's phone, I get a new one put on once a month and have never had a problem. The plastic around the Kraken is very durable and wouldn't be worried if I drop the phone. I'm coming from an Aegis, a lot better protection and I've owned otterboxes before, Kraken from here on out for me.

i just got this case a few days ago and i like it so far. im coming from an otterbox, which i started to not like that much after the rubber outer layer began to get weak. im sure i could probably contact otterbox about it and they would likely send another one. but i wanted to give the kraken a shot since i really like the aegis and my only contention with it was that there was no kickstand or belt clip. i have to get used to the texture, hard and a lil slippery is much different from the otterbox's soft grippy exterior...but not a downer by any means. also, i found the screen protector to be decent and actually a welcome edition. i was ready to go without it or use a Realook screen saver that i have, but the one that comes with the Kraken is nice and im not having an issue with it at all.
one issue i do have with the Kraken is that they didn't design it with a hole for the indicator light (top right). i actually use mine and when im doing in the field and my phone is on silent. so that would be a good thing to adjust if they can for future designs.
Be different, go trident... I see too many otterboxs.. Mostly on iphones though

I've had both (Although I had the Commuter for my old LG Optimus One) and I currently have the Seidio Active (Without the kickstand) and the Seidio Active is much much better. The silicone and plastic is much higher quality and it doesn't lose it's shape like most Otterboxes too. The only upside with buying the Otterbox is that is comes with a screen protector (A pretty crappy one anyway) and that's about it. The Seidio case is much better.

By the way does the case get a lot of lint on it and does it get stuck inside pockets and such that's my main concern lol

The Seidio case picks up a little bit of lint, a LOT less than the Otterboxes do. Half the time for me it doesn't pick lint up but when it does it's barely noticeable and wipes off really easily. Can't same the same about the Otterbox though, I had a hell of a time with lint problems when I had one for my old phone.

Do yourself a favor and also check out the Trident Kraken(Excellent Video Review Here). It has an awesome kickstand, tons of accessories that can be bought(11 bucks for a windshield mount? DONE!) and you can take it out of the poly-carb box and use just the silicon sleeve when you don't need it. Plus from everything I read online, Trident offers far superior protection than SEIDO or Otterbox. And the rotatable belt clip is way better than a holster, to me anyway. Give it a look, love mine!
Also if you want slightly less protection(and thickness) consider the Trident Aegis.

Of course the Trident Kraken offers superior protection when compared to the Seidio Active and Otterbox Commuter but it also adds a lot more bulk to your phone. (If you're ok with that, then go for the Kraken! It is the most protective case out of the three!).
And I wasn't hating on the Commuter, I was just stating what I had encountered when I had one with my old phone.
I decided to go with the Seidio Active case with the kickstand. It should arrive tomorrow so I'll update you guys on how it is.

I finally realized what happen then went searching for it the case was scratch to heck, but the phone was safe

Favorite/Current Case?

I need a case/cover something that doesn't add much bulk (thin) well protected, and looks good. What's your current or favorite case? I'm looking at this bad boy:

The case I am currently using for my T989 is the Diztronic Matte Back Black TPU Case. I'll be posting a review and pictures of it soon.

My favorite case by far, is this black TPU gel case. It's super slim too, and slides into my pocket. :good:

Although I haven't seen too many cases up close, I think I would agree. The Diztronic case is slim enough to easily slide into a pocket, it fits the phone really well, and it doesn't cover anything that shouldn't be covered. I had a cheap one from Koodo first, but I hated how it covered the power and volume buttons. The Diztronic case was cheaper and looks a lot better too...just wished they had more colour options available.

I thought it was a cool case at firsst..... but then it became to cumbersome pressing the buttons & I didnt like the fact that the case made the phone a little wider. for protection the otterbox cases are the way to go but they cann be bulky, I bought myself a diztronic case and I love the fact that its fits perfectly on the phone with access to the buttons and no extra width added to the sides of the phone :good:

Need help with a case for a gift

I want to get my dad a nice case and holster for fathers day, I've got a nexus so I don't know the options for his S3. I like the otterbox commuter because the silicone is held tight at the top and bottom by the outer layer. If anyone knows of a horizontal holster that fits this well let me know (like the defender series holster). I would really prefer horizontal over the vertical clip in style, even though I know they all swivel. I don't like the defender because he won't like the soft outer layer or built in hard screen protector. The ballistic SG MAXXX has the horizontal holster and hard outer case, but I don't like how the outer layer doesn't cover the top and bottom. Any suggestions for a commuter holster or different case combo?
I would check out the body glove toughsuit. Its similar to the defender, but the outer layer is more of a you material. You can also pull the built in screen protector out pretty easy. They sell them at Walmart if you want to check one out in person.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Nah, the hard inner layer and soft outer layer isn't logical in my opinion. He works in construction so it needs good drop protection. I might just go with the commuter and get the Seidio active holster.
I use the otterbox defender and am also in construction and it serves me well.
Sent while sleeping in chair.
The outer layer is not soft. Its riggid and way better than the defender its Not tacky and grippy. Ive had them both before.
The commuter is not a good decision Imo. Most likely gonna slip out of hes hand lol.

Ive had the ballistic sg maxx before which would be my 2nd choice over the toughsuit

I'm thinking I'll just go with the SG MAXX, it's seems to fit the bill the best. I might consider getting the commuter and seidio active holster, I've seen someone else post that combination on here.
