Steinheil Screen Protectors - Thunderbolt Accessories

I've used these Steinheil screen protectors before on my Eris and liked them. It seems they have additional ones for the TB so I just wanted to get people's feedback on them and how they felt. Like how well is the oleophobic? (haha).
I want to get rid of the fingerprint and finger oils but keep screen clarity, so has anyone found one that is a decent compromise?
http://www.sgpstore.com/cell-phone/...-screen-protector-steinheil-ultra-series.html

I have the oleo One on my phone while the screen is clear and great clarity it does show some smudges but they wipe away easily. If you want a improvement in finger prints and want to keep clarity this is the one as the other one takes away much more screen clarity but eliminates most prints but the thunderbolt screen is too beautiful in my opinion and I rather keep the clarity so the oleo ones work best for me

I got the ultra crystal one. This is my first time using steinheil. I had it on my tbolt for about a month. Just today, I noticed I got a scratch on the screen protector. I don't know how that happened. It is usually in my left pocket with nothing else in it. So I may have let it touch something else when on the table. Kinda sad about it, good thing when you purchase the protectors is comes with 2. I hope it didn't cut through to the glass.

I got the oleophobic one but I could not get them on without getting a lot of dust trapped behind them. As soon as separating them from the backing there was dust all over it. I had to send them back. Got a ghost armor instead. Better than my ZAGG. I like wet application screen protectors.

what's the texture like vs the steinheil? (Vs the ghost armor)

Go with the Ultra Fine's. Had them and they were awesome. Decided to try out the Oleophobic's and the fingerprints are killing me. Might as well go without the screen protector, have to wipe it just as much.
Most likely will be buying another set of Ultra Fine's very soon.

How much was the clarity reduced with the unless fines?

I'd say percentage wise, maybe 10-15% but to me it was well worth it. I really hate wipping the oleo's constantly, finger prints are just as bad as if you didn't have them at all. You could tell it has the matte finish, but the screen still looked very clear, just basically looks like a slight tint.

Love the Ultra Fine. Been using them on the Bolt from day one. It does reduce visability and the 10 - 15% estimate from gregnice37 sounds right.

I just put the ultra crystal on my TB yesterday and love it. Smudges but easily wiped away and I'd rather not have the decrease in contrast from the others.
Despite what other threads have said in the past, the fit is perfect...there is barely a 1mm gap on one side, and that's my fault...still cant tell it's there.

I saw a hint on another website to avoid getting dust on your dry-application screen protectors. Go into your bathroom, turn on hot water in both the tub and sink. close the door and let it run for 10 minutes. Now, go back in and put the screen protector on. This helps to eliminate the dust from the air and it won't get on your screen.

I just got the Ultra Crystal protectors today. This is the best and clearest screen protector I've had. You truly can not tell there's a protector on. I recommend it to anyone looking for a good screen protector.

Yeah someone else on here said that. I'll try to remember that if I ever get dry-application screen protectors again. But for now I'm very happy with my ghost armor. Goes on like a ZAGG (what I used previously) but there is literally no orange-peel look to it. All my ZAGG invisiSHILEDs had that look.

That estimate might even be a little bit low for the ultra fine, but regardless even 2% is too much for me. It was nice to not have as many fingerprints, but I just can't sacrifice screen clarity. That's just me.

You will not sacrifice clarity with the Ultra Crystal protector. No orange peel effect, no rainbow effect, and most of all crystal clear.

You kidding right? There's no loss in clarity.... just take it off and go naked and report back in a month. you'll have scratches on your phone. how's that for loss of clarity.

are there any coupon codes? I noticed at checkout it asks for one if any

I have to agree. The screen protectors from SGP are amazing, best one I have ever had.

Yeah they are high quality, had the ultra fine for my Eris. I don't mind slightly losing clarity in exchange for no/less fingerprints.
Has anyone found any privacy screen protectors that are good quality for the TB?

I just installed an ultra crystal on mine. It's great! 100% better than the cheap Verizon one I had on before it.

Electrostatic vs. Adhesive Screen Protectors

Hello All,
I know that I want a PET or other glass-like screen protector. Generally speaking, I never used screen protectors because they never really held up all that well and on top of that they never had the feel or look of the real thing. Now I have a scratch on my screen that is not normally visible, but I know its there.
I have run into a debacle because I know that while I am good at putting on screen protectors, I am no expert and the PET ones are harder to get perfect than the rubbery ones (which I now despise). So, recently I have seen that there are some PET/Silicone/ Electrostaic Hybrid screen protetctors and then there are still the PET with Adhesive.
Does anyone have experience with the electrostatic type and how good are they at staying on and bubbles?
I have no idea what is PET, or the different types. However, if you are talking about the one I got:
http://www.handhelditems.com/crystal-clear-screen-protector-p-135710.html
my experience is that this has great clarity, can get bubbles during applications, and they rarely come off by itself. On the many devices I've used this type of protector on, only one came off. It started in one corner, and over the course of a month with gradual lint build up the screen protector eventually got ruined. I could've washed it and reapplied for that month, but I had a spare so I was lazy. You can reapply the protectors as needed to get the application right. The bubbles that occur aren't the same as the rubbery kind. Air bubbles can easily be pushed out after application. The problem is dust that prevent the protector from adhering to screen, causing a little bubble. If the dust is really small, the bubble goes away over a day. Or, like me, you can live with it. You try getting something the size of an iPad dust free.
Bought Electrostatic - LOVE THESE!
Ok, as a preface I have owned and used screen protectors before.
I had an iPhone before the EVO and used the Griffin Ultraclear hard Protetctors ad the PowerSupportUSA products of every variety on my previous iPod products (iPod Mini 1G, 4G, Nano 1G, 5G, Shuffle 1G, Touch, iPhone) not to mention an invisible shield one or two. I gave up on the films towards the end of my Touch ownership. They always felt horrible and I could never get one absolutely perfect (didn't help that they usually were not perfectly cut).
For the Evo, I tried the InvisibleShield the first day because I remembered just how well the InvisibileShield had held up on my 5G. Well I think that they have changed the formula, or rather that 3M has since then because the smooth feel and smooth look of the original are most definitely gone. The new variety is rubbery (even after days of use) and is not cut well enough to be a perfect fit (it never covered edge to edge). So i skipped it. Well it seems that with this large of a glass screen, you are much more liable to getting scratches (versus using and unprotetcted iPhone/Touch screen) and I got a few ultra hairline ones that are barely if ever visible to the naked eye and just knowing that they are there bothered me. So I needed to think of getting a screen protector.
Seeing as how air moves and its nearly impossible to get a screen protectors on without any bit of dust, I decided on getting the electrostatic variety so that I could rinse if it came off or needed to be reapplied.
I bought These: Electrostatic Screen Protector - Clear Hard
- Hard variety (PET)
- Very Clear
- Silicone Layer (helps the scratches and dents heal themselves and give sturdiness to the PET)
- Electrostatic layer (holds the screen protector onto the phone)
Six pack delivered for $4? I could do much worse.
Well as it turns out, they are PERFECTLY cut and cover every inch of screen and no more. It went on smooth as butter and I got no bubbles or dust or fingerprints or anything (used a credit card to smooth it down). These were by far the easiest I have had. Not only that, but the electrostatic holds on just as strong as the sticky variety and will not get the gunk on the sides sticking to it! I have taken my TPU case on and off a bunch and had no lift whatsoever. As a bonus, THEY SHOW FINGERPRINTS MUCH LESS THAN THE GLASS SCREEN DOES!
So at $0.65 each, they are killer and having a few backups is nice as well as giving one to a friend.
Cheers!
Thanks for that post. I'm expecting my EVOs (I ordered 2) in within the next week. I've been trying hard to find cases and screen protectors without much luck, but I'm going to go ahead and order those screen protectors you mentioned since you recommend them.
Yep i ordered the same ones and love them. i have loved these from the start. they are quite easy to put on and stay on well.

I have a steinheil ultra crystal protector on my EVO, and its static. As long as you make sure there is no debris under it, it will stay on for a long time with no lifting. I have shown my phone to quite a few people, and not one of them can tell I have a screen protector on it. Even when I point it out to them, they still cant see it. It's very thin and I applied it perfectly so their a no bubbles. Took me about 30 minutes to get it perfect. If you use a piece of scotch tape to pick up debris under it, that works pretty good. This biggest thing is to make sure your edges are perfectly clean. Even the slightest bit of debris under one of the edges of the screen protector, and it wont be long before it starts peeling. I'm very satisfied with my steinheil. Going on 5 weeks now and it looks flawless. Id take a picture but you wouldnt be able to see it anyways. I thought it was a scam spending $13 on a screen protector! I used to order them from china for 50 cents. well, never doing that again! I've only ever used 1 adhesive type screen protector, and it was terrible. the clarity was awful.

IMO, this screen protector is way better than the Zagg one. I have one on my incredible and i love it. It's not rubbery and it feels just like the screen.

If you'd just look around a bit more, you'd find that the Ultra Fine for additional $3 is the anti glare and is also matte.
Looks like it's the one I wanted. I was hoping for something like iFrogz anti glare screen protection I've been using on my iPhone which it totally rocks. Don't like the InvisibleShield, it's still glossy. =P
Thanks for the heads up, going to order one now.
I'm getting one of these. This is the closest thing to the Verizon branded version, which I loved on my Droid, but the XOOM version doesn't cover the entire screen.
I was planning on getting a Zagg using a coupon code from another member here, but decided to do some more research on that product, and have been on the fence about getting it. Now my decision has been made.
If anyone wants the Zagg code, let me know. I'll PM it to you. You have to use it before Friday, I believe.

I was just about to post that one as well. Ordered an Ultra Fine one with the coupon. 28.94 total.
Thank guys! I just ordered the Ultra Fine as well. I like the idea of matte finish to reduce glare. Glare is ridiculous on the Xoom. My nook is much better about reducing glare. Anyway, thanks again! Hope the protector doesn't reduce vibrance of the colors nor clarity.
Man, I hate how much reflection the Xoom picks up. Unless, you're in a dark room, it's hard to see the screen sometimes. I love the idea of the Ultra Fine SGP. I don't think I've ever used SGP, but I know they have a good reputation.
If anybody could post a video, or screenshots of the Anti-glare when they get it, that would be great! I'm just holding off for now because I want to know if it reduces the screen quality much. But looking at YouTube reviews of this on the iPad, it greatly reduces glare.
Here's a good video review of *cough* other tablet's SGP Anti-Fingerprint...

Good thing I waited to get a protector, because this looks like it's just the ticket.
Ordered the Ultra Fine.
They are indeed high quality but there are visible scratches from swiping on the one installed on my Droid X just three months ago. Is this typical? Thus far I have no scratches whatsoever on the VZW protector on the Xoom.
And this is from someone who is fanatical about taking care of my electronics.

Yes, this is normal. I've had a Steinheil on my Incredible since May and there are multiple scratches but they're not unsightly. You have to take into account that you're not putting the Xoom in your pocket with various sharp/metal objects, so as long as your fingers and screen are relatively clean, you won't see those same scratches you do on your phone's protector.
I love Steinheil btw...

Thanks. That's why I asked -- I use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe regularly and it is kept in a case in my purse and never in a pocket. I was surprised at how easily it scratched from clean fingertips.
Oddly, I haven't seen a scratch yet on the VZW/Xoom and but expected to. Guess I am spoiled with Giottos AEGIS Pro LCD Screen Protectors for my DSLRs but they are made of German Schott glass.

Well mine's probably horrible compared to yours! I was also careful at first, making sure it was in pockets solely by itself, but after the first two or three scratches, I stopped caring. You got me thinking that I should put the backup that they sent on!
And on that note, only one comes for the Xoom, correct? I'm very obsessed about getting it perfectly laid without a speck underneath.

Yes, it is a single protector but I wouldn't be concerned - they are not fragile and easy to apply. Just be sure to find a very clean, nearly dust-free area and wash your hands well before application. I usually keep a lens blower handy as well as a couple of pieces of Scotch tape. I place the tape on opposite corners for easier control of placement.

Did you get the crystal or ultra fine? I ordered the ultra fine and hoping there isn't too much loss on viewing quality.

Steinheil Ultra Fine

Does anyone have this. I am currently looking to get a better screen protector than the one that I got from verizon and this looks like a good option.
So does anyone have any experience with this type of screen protector and any pros and cons about it?
Assuming you're getting this for anti-fingerprint purposes, the SGP Ultra fine will do you wonders. It does prevent fingerprints from getting on to the screen. However, it slightly compromises the display a little. You will see little artifacts from the light of the display going through the screen protector, since there are layers in there used for the anti-fingerprint.
Don't get this if you want ultra clear display, or if you don't care much about having fingerprints. If you want ultra clear, try their Ultra Crystal Clear.
I've been using it so far for about 2 weeks.. Amazing for anti-fingerprint purposes..
One of the best screen protectors I have ever had..
Definitely recommended..
I've had the ultra fine for about a week and so far it's great. The clarity of the screen is definitely compromised, but you don't notice it after a bit. One of the best things is your fingers don't drag/catch like they can on naked glass or crystal style protectors. It just sort of glides across the surface.
what do you guys think about the anti-glare on this screen protector?
I have ultra fine and i like it, but there is alot of glare outdoors, but it does its job, i see no fingerprints on the screen.
as Purgatoiry said you definitely slide across the screen with this screen guard.

Dunno what to say, because of the matte finish, when the sun is on it its hard to see.

I had one of the earlier anti-fingerprint protectors on my incredible and I noticed the same thing. I think the problem is that the sunlight gets diffused in the screen which makes it hard to see through the glare.

Crystal Clear is like glass. It's probably the best option if you want to protect your screen but want to make it feel like nothing is there. I have one on mine and people, who play with my phone, don't realize there's a protector on it until they see the seam for the protector.

Trying to find a particular screen cover.

My protector had a slight 'scratch' on it, and in my annoyance, I went to replace it with one of the two remaining in my VZW/HTC pack (luckily not on the real screen though.) Crap managed to slip between the screen & protector on number 2, and number 3 had residue on the screen side, even though the dual-cover was still on it correctly.
I dropped by VZW to buy more, but instead of getting whichever version I had before, the rep gave me some anti-glare ones in the same packaging. I hate them. Every pixel looks like it's shining through frosted glass, and it's ruining my movie/tv experience.
Catch is, I never wrote down the type of protector I had before (it was glossy and easily reflected light,) but didn't degrade the image while using the display. Does somebody know the type offhand?
Or, even better, can anyone recommend a better protector if one exists? $16 for 3 tiny sheets of clear plastic seems like highway robbery.
I've always used the cheap generic ones on eBay that come from Hong Kong after having a surprisingly good one on my PSP.
Though you run the slight chance of running into a seller that has the low quality screen protectors (I've had a coworker that received some that had light scratches immediately, as you're running your fingers across it), it's still a relatively cheap gamble (less than $5).
The good ones are scratch-resistant, do not take away any quality from the screen, and are barely noticeable. The only downside, they pick up fingerprint oils VERY easily. If that bothers you, have a microfiber cloth with you. IMO they are on par with the Steinheils.
I bought mine before the Thunderbolt's release (to prepare for its arrival!) for $3.80 for 6x screen protectors. They're still within the same price range.

Those are the best screen protectors I've ever used. I have the ultra clear one and I can't tell that it's there. And it's super smooth!
It does get pretty fingerprinty though and I've heard good things about their "anti-fingerprint" line. It's worth a look if you care about that kind of stuff.

The anti-fingerprint ones are matte. They have that frosted look. Personally, I prefer ghost armor or ZAGG over the stienheils. It's because I like wet application though so I don't get crap stuck between the screen and the screen protector.

Use that link and order the ultra fine screen protector. It's the yellow one and is anti-fingerprint. The way these screen protectors feel are fantastic. They're super smooth and glide very easily. Comparatively speaking, the zagg shields IMO are sticky. I also feel weird getting my phone wet to put on a screen protector. Just me though....

[Update: 08/07/12]
I received mine today. I posted pictures below. I have a headache and I'm sleepy, so I will post a brief Q&A because I've been reading and I know there are some questions folks have been wondering that I can touch up on w/o a delay and I'll give it to you straight.
Q: How does the home button feel?
A: The home button is notably depressed. It operates as normal. Maybe a little awkward at first, but it's no big deal really. And to those thinking you are going to need to buy a raised home button, or a sticker..or something like that..you folks are going overboard with your imagination...bring it down a notch
Q: How was installation?
A: Very very simple and bar none the easiest screen protector I've ever installed. You see how fast he did it in the install video above. It's just like that. A few seconds and your done .. no waiting for nothing to dry, etc. etc...
Q: How does it fit in a case?
A: I have a clear gel tpu case on mine. My case does *not* fit over the screen protector. The edges are sitting pretty much flush with the top edge of the screen protector. I tried pulling it over, it was a no go. What I found is that this creates stress on the screen protector and caused it to lift at the top. I'll be looking into getting a different case to use with this screen protector. Maybe one that is a two piece, top and bottom section? The adhesive seems to be pretty good though. I was able to take my phone out of the case, push the screen protector back down. And I didn't have the issue for the day that I was using it.
Q: How about those *dots* I've been hearing about on the screen.
A: Bottomline, you'll notice them. When the screen is off or black, they are very visible. When the screen is on and you're holding the phone away..you're probably arn't going to notice so much. When you are holding the phone closer to you..they appear like little pixel crystals sparkling in the background. That's the best way I can explain it. Do I find it to be a deal breaker? Absolutely not..you'll just have to deal with it if you decide you want this screen protector.
Q: But the screen of the Samsung Galaxy S III is curved, and this is a glass screen protector that is straight, how does this affect the way it sits on the phone?
A: This is the biggest non-issue. You won't notice anything irregular here. So let that one go..
Overall, the screen protector looks great, there's no loss of sensitivity. [Perhaps even a better sensitivity then if you had any other type of screen protector on ur phone. It feels great.. after me typing the last 20mins.] I'll play with it for a few days and if there's something else needing to be touched up on I will .. otherwise I'd say it's a good purchase based on my initial impression. I happily took off my *wet* applied screen protector that was creating an eyesore because it was all bubbled up and applied this one.
So there you go!
And Please .. Press the thanks button if I've helped you at all..
That actually looks pretty impressive - My only concern would be having the home button be even more recessed. I'm already not too happy with how much effort it requires to press the home button. I know .4mm isn't much, but it's still less than without the protector.
I know .. me too ... but now that I see it written, versus having it said .. you know .4mm ... that's like next to nothing. But we'll see soon!
Yeah I ordered it one month ago, been rocking a cheapo xtremeguard screen protector waiting

wouldnt this also run the risk of being scratched (like the glass)? .. screen protector for this screen protector anyone?
has anyone installed it yet?
Honestly, i don't like the idead of having glass over glass. I had the Glass.T SGP on my GNote and didn't like it. Just my .02

Was it the feel of the glass? Was the image bad? Did it leave air bubbles?
What was wrong with it?
i dont really get this. what if it gets scratched?
I guess the only reason i didn't like it was because it messed with the usage of the S-Pen. Also it made the screen somewhat less responsive and inaccurate at times.

It's glass..im expecting a scratch here and there, however, the screen underneath will stay mint and it's been said that this won't bubble up since it's one solid piece.

Lol, what's not to get? The whole idea of a screen protector is to protect the glass built into the phone (not easily replaced). If the protector gets scratched, that means it did it's job and should be replaced. At 8h it's far harder than even the most premium plastic screen protectors, and barely more expensive.
Seems promising but, I'll wait for some reviews before I'd seriously consider it.
I paid $27 including tax for a Zagg HD that performs in the $10-$15 protector range. This is $2 or so more delivered. I'm in.

I know itll get scratched, but its glass, when it gets scratched, its there, it will not heal itself like other screen protectors and this is not just those cheap ones that you can just change. And i do use use a screen protector on mine. Im just saying, for that price when it gets scratched, its going to stay there. But i know itll protect the screen underneath, and thats good. But for that price, changing it when it gets brutally scratched is a pain in the ass.
Is it really coming out?? So interested in but not sure how it's gonna adhere the curved edge. I know there are a lot of "curved" screen protector for now, but isn't glass too rigid for making it? If it works fine, I would love to buy one, but it's still risky to invest more than $30 for screen protector.

I think your main point here is really price. All screen protectors can get scratched, and when they do you replace them. This is certainly a "premium" product, and yes you have to pay more. This product certainly should be more scratch resistant than other screen protectors, so in theory you would need to replace it less often. More importantly to me, it is a real glass experience and feel, and should be perfectly clear.
Basically you are paying more for a more durable, clearer, easier to install, high quality screen protector.
Personally I would be interested if the quality is as advertised, I will wait for some ginny pigs to report their findings first though.

Why would this scratch less than other screen protectors? From my experience the GLASS screen tends to scratch easier than a screen protector. A good screen protector rather. So why wouldnt you buy a good screen protector that does not easily scratch vs a piece of glass that would scratch just as easily as the screen plus is more expensive than the other types of screen protectors

The hardness scale goes from 1H to 10H with diamonds being the top dog. This product is marketed as 8H tempered glass meaning only (9-10)H stuff can scratch it. Regular glass is 5.5H.
