Google launches Video call for Google Talk - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Google launched Video call for Gtalk.. OS 2.3 required
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJAiH5-64sI&feature=player_embedded

Unfortunately only coming to Nexus S for the time being within the 2.3.4 Gingerbread update but hopefully won't take forever for them to release 2.3.4 to manufacturers to allow our GSII's to have it as that would be a great addition.
EDIT: It's being worked on by devs here to bring to other phones sooner: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056793
Doesn't seem to be working correctly yet but I'm sure they'll have it up and running soon enough

has anyone tried "Vtok" from the market?

Skype video update

Just curious if the new skype update with video calling would work if we changed the string to one of the supported phones? Anyone try this yet?

I just updated, signed in and tried to do a video chat both ways....tried calling someone and had someone call me and NOTHING....still same old thing for us! The UI looks a little bit better then their old one but I'm sure this will be a matter of time before someone disables the device check on this and cracks this sucker wide open for everyone!!
That's what I am hoping for...if we can fool the app into thinking we have a supported phone it could work...

Dunno what phone you're on, but try the one in my sig. Works on the tbolt.

I tried this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1148708 and is a step in the right direction for us because I'm able to receive video calls as well as make them BUT the cameras don't seem to work because I can't see anyone and they can't see me...............NOW I know you're thinking that this is useless but before the video chat feature wouldn't even show up in the regular app so all we have to do is figure out this camera issue and we got ourselves video chat!!!...haha

So are there any video chat apps that let us use our unrooted DINC2 and talk on the other end to a pc?? I've looked and found tango and qik but neither offer a pc app
Ideas?

so the only apk I have come up with that is supposed to work with DINC2 is listed below, but it didnt work. It begins to install and I get an error saying install failed
Droid-Life Download Mirror for Hacked Skype 2.0
Any other links to hacked Skype for an UNROOTED DINC2?
Thanks in advance!
Thats strange...it worked for me. You are running Gingerbread, right?
Yeah I did the OTA last week to gingerbread. So is that the same link you used then? If not, could you share your link or apk?

To OP - why don't you want to root? Just wondering.. I've rooted and using cm7 right now and skype works pretty nicely on it. I installed google tall update but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

There is a way to install the video chat capable version of talk on 2.3.3, but you need root
Do a search in the android market place for talk 1.3 and it should be the second item found.
Its called:
[root] Talk 1.3 Installer by BRAINWASH STUDIO
I tried it last night and it works well

To be honest I'm new to the android world and I am fine with what I have. I like the feel of Sense, and from what I hear there isnt any ROM that has Sense and works very well.
Plus once you root, isnt it pretty hard to go back to stock?

There are two roms that I know of that are exactly the same as the stock gingerbread with sense and one that is stock froyo, im running the gingerbread one, same as over the air update, minus some Verizon crap u can put back on if u wish, and I can do so much more with root, and I'm having zero issues or problems.

In that case would you mind sharing the gingerbread ROM ? Also, in regards to rooting can I use the unrevoked method, or is there an easier better way?

Official Netflix Support for the DInc2

If you haven't been enjoying Netflix with one of the modified apps, go get the official release. DInc2 is now supported and available in the Android Market!
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk
I did the patch workaround to get Netflix working on my dINc2...should I delete the Netflix app I have installed and install the one in the market or will they both be the same?
Should I revert back to before I applied the patch?

I installed the official Netflix app from the Market and I still get the white screen.
No playback on Incredible 2... also, on the netflix website it does require "activation" for Netflix ready devices?
It says "Follow the instructions on your device to get an activation code.
Your computer and device must both be connected to the Internet to activate."
i too am getting the dreaded white screen
Afternoon Netflix Update
Nextflix posted another app update to the market this afternoon. (build now matches the release in the description.)
Updated the app opened it up, and....I am now watching Netflix on Stock 2.3 Dinc2.
We now have Netflix!
I uninstalled the hacked version and installed the official and video quality seems to have degraded significantly. Backed to blue Netflix for me.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
Video quality seems fine to me. Official app doesn't have full video rotation though
Yeah, rotation would be nice, but not a deal-breaker. I'll keep an eye on the mod thread for that version. It's just nice to be able to start catching up on Archer while away from home
Just got around to installing the official app. No more white screen works great for me.

After updating today the new version working for me also.

OK every time i try this I'm getting Installation error Package file was not signed correctly. Is this because I am rooted?? I got it to install just fine on my g-tab but the inc2 is giving me a hard time!! Any ideas?
I'm rooted on cm7 and it installs fine for me so I doubt its from rooting. Now, it might be dependent on the rom you're using.

Smart update on JB??

I'm now using JB but the update still download the entire apk instead of only the changes.. Or am I missing something?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Dunno if they've started that yet. And I don't think that's JB specific iirc. Thought I remember it being 2.3 and above. Its all handled on Google's end.

Sounds like it is enabled on all apps by default on anything 2.3 and up:
For Android devices with the Google Play, we launched the following at Google I/O today:
Smart app updates: For Android 2.3, Gingerbread devices and up, when there is a new version of an app in Google Play, only the parts of the app that changed are downloaded to users’ devices. On average, a smart app update is a third the size of a full apk update. This means your users save bandwidth and battery and the best part? You don’t have to do a thing. This is automatically enabled for all apps downloaded from Google Play.

No. No release date. My best guess is that it will coincide with the actual release of JB later this month.

has the voice assistant been converted to 4.0 or ripped?

Are you talking about Google Now? Because that works fine for the inc2 just no mic support. Its running fine on aeroevan cm9 with v10 kernel here

The new voice assistance added into JB, i was wondering if it was possible to be ripped / spliced with ICS
Exactly like rshift said, there is a version for ICS, but it's not optimized whatsoever. Some but not all cards work, and I'm yet to receive a notification fro doing things outside of the house.
To top it all off, no, the voice input and Text to Speech are still broken because of what they think is a kernel issue, so don't expect anything useful/different from your normal Google Search until we get a Jelly Bean port of our own.
However, if you want to try it for yourself, go ahead and look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747224
The instructions are pretty straightforward, but make sure to create a backup like it says in case something goes wrong.
Google will definitely have to release this for ICS. How many people will even have a phone on 4.1 in the near future.
I just booted up a working version of 4.1 and was super sad to see that Google Now wasn't working yet...But they are working hard to get it going!
