Incs temproot - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

It looks like the incs has a temproot that also works on the inc2. Anybody get this working yet? I'm in ubuntu now so can't use the exact scripts provided in the thread. Awesome that it's doable, hopefully that leads to something more...permanent....

Yep...Got the temproot working on my DI2 using the DIS rooting method. I'm interested to know if the XTC Clip hardware would work for the DI2??

Temp root meaning rooted till you reboot rite?
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA Premium App

I've been trying to figure that out as well, even going to far as to email the xtc people themselves...
No response yet, I'm feeling like the "beta testing" that I have been reading about is testing the device on the inc2. It STINKS how expensive that is though and I truly don't think we'll be able to get a viable dev community unless there is a free/easy unlock method
I can't even find anybody working on the inc2. Made an *** of myself on the unrevoked IRC last night asking about it or for help. Nada! Lol.
We will just have to be patient I suppose. I'll keep looking for any information I can find....

I've got the temp root method working for me as well. And from what I've heard the XTC clip does work for the Inc 2 but I don't think it's worth the trouble. Mainly because until we get a free, permanent root no devs are going to be interested in making ROMs for us.

I agree. Debating returning it... I love the phone, but without root and the bluetooth issues its not thrilling me.

If root is a must, there is no point in buying unrooted phones. Expect all future HTC phones to be secured.

HTC's build quality and Sense are unrivaled, though. To be honest, the only thing I want root for is to remove all the crap Verizon bundled on it. But that's more OCD than anything. Sense is really slick.

Untill we get perm root, use the temp root method and titanium backup and freeze the bloatware apps. Worked for me and it stays gone after a reboot.

I am using Launcher Pro and currently have the bloatware hidden from the apps drawer.
Would it be better, resource-wise, to temp root and use Titanium to either freeze or uninstall them?
And if I do that, is there some reason to freeze instead of just uninstalling?
And lastly, are there some Sense or HTC or Verizon apps that look like bloatware but are really needed by the phone to function correctly that I should leave alone?
Thanks.

I have an XTC clip I recieved from the guy in china as part of the beta team. O get one test clip and then 5 more.. I'd be willing to part ways with it, but still researve the right to use one of the clips.. I'm not ready to brick my inc2 on a 2 year contract just yet lol. like the guy said if u dont feel comfortable, dont use it. im take half of what the online asking normal price is. im not looking to make money, just get this root going on this phone..

If there is one motivating factor in seeking a permanent root method for my dinc2, it would be for the functionality of the WiFi Tether App. Please, care to share.

That's what I am looking for too, wireless tether! Had it on my Dinc and really miss it now. Put up a donate button if you decide to give it out!

If I can figure out this XTC clip there is a possibility of it giving me S-OFF, i just have no idea how to use it, what a gold card is ect.. if anyone is willing to help walk me through I get 5 more credits, which means 5 people can use this clip an attain S-OFF as well (if it works) jcase said he'd get walk me through everything else once and if I get S-OFF. !

The point in rooting

Hi,
I am new to android. I came over from a htc hd2. Basicaly I was just wondering apart from being able to install apps2sd I can't really see much more to do with it. I know you can install custom ROMS, but I think the default that comes with the phone is just fine.
Could someone please tell me of any perks of rooting the desire.
Cheers

so am I missing something. where on that page does it tell you the benefits or rooting?

I don't mean to be rude, but if you are not aware what you can do with a rooted android device, maybe you should just google around a little bit and find out what root access actually means. I find it helps a lot when you actually understand something before considering it.
Wifi-tether (once working), OpenVPN tunnels, chroot'ed Linux installs, kernel with PAE to use more ram (need to check this), CPU overclocking, LED Torch and other nerdy things we all like
cheers jayshah. probably be most interested in the WiFi tether myself. seems like some good stuff there then! I have rooted already just for the apps2sd, but it looks like that could be coming officially soon any way.

My best advice is don't do anything if you don't need to. Don't root just because you can. Think to yourself "am I happy with everything my phone can do NOW?" if yes, then leave it and enjoy your phone. If the answer is, no, I need it to do X, Y and Z, then you need to research. Can X, Y or Z be achieved with a third party app? If yes, then again, leave it and get the app. If no, then see if it IS possible, if you have Root access. Then and only then should you consider it.
I've personally not found anything compelling enough to Root yet, so I haven't.

Yeah, I heard that too but the Wifi tether is actually the main thing I need. That'll never become standard (given it's basically forbidden on at least T-Mo UK) so you'll always have to root.
I fully agree with what Aitese said. I really don't see the point in rooting, and taking the risk, if you won't use it. I've rebooted my device around 5 times in the last hour, making sure recovery works and installing Busybox as I'm not putting A2SD on it yet. Rooting isn't just something you should do because others have, it isn't for the faint hearted.
I think in the past devices have had to be rooted as early ROMS were crap on some early HTC devices. Its almost like when a new device comes out people now automatically race to get it rooted without really knowing why! For this device though, I dont see the point. Works well as is!
MarketEnabler? for people outside "authorized" zones, giving them the ability to get paid Apps.... wich is a huge downside atm

Yeah, I think this device is spot on as is, just with the exception of only being able to install apps into main memory. The HD2 I felt needed custom ROMS found my self flashing a bit on that and had a much better ROM on then stock.
I can't beleive the difference between the 2 os's though it's a nice change from windows mobile, which was just horrible to be honest in my experience.

I used my Desire on T-mo most of last week in the evening while working away. ~700MB went through it according to my T-mo account page, all listed as costing £0.00 No special software (i.e. PDAnet) just HTC sync installed, and to be honest don't know if that's even needed.

My point was that Tmo don't have an issue with WiFi tethering in general. They certainly can't detect / stop you doing it.
There's probably not enough reason to root until Froyo comes out.

I'm not one to bash on people either but I agree this guy could have ruined it for everyone. Thankfully alpha kept a better standard. Software root came quicker than it did for the DInc1 and the Inc2 WAS the most locked down phone known to Verizon. Impressive to say the least. Also credit to Raskal and XTC clip as he did need hardware. but I bet the guy could make software root, just makes more money on the clip lol. can't blame him though, it is worth it if it's the only option. IMO

How exactly could he have ruined it for everyone by saying he didnt think root would be achieved? You think Alpha woulda gave up their attemtps in annoyance because he was the one naysayer? get real. people are entitled to their opinions and he disagreed and when perm root was achieved he mentioned how embarrassed he felt in multiple treads. I think he has been humiliated enough and we should all move on to enjoying root now...

Hi all
Just got an Inc 2. why else would I be posting here ,,,, anyhow I gotta have root mainly just to remove bloat, really undecided on which way though, HTC unlock or a full S off through the downgrade revolutionary method, I'm not realy a flashaholic, I would like to be able to use set CPU or the likes, for battery savings and maybe a little overclocking, phone seems pretty responsive if you ask me just coming from an Eris but I haven't loaded any apps on it yet either, heck I haven't even activated it yet (guess it's a little hard to let Ginger go ) I'd post a screen shot of her but she's a little shy.
So what's everyone thoughts on this if you had just recieved a brand new Incredible 2, with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, 2.6.35.9 kernel; and now the news of Official ICS update soon to be released which way would you go to root HTC or S off?
Can you overclock/undervolt stock kernel?
Is it possible to flash a different kernel?
Any and all input on this will be greatly appriciated, Thanks In Advance

You're gonna wanna downgrade and s-off. It's easier to flash ROMs, also you can flash radios that way. It's a slightly longer process to do so, but its worth not spending extra time when flashing ROMs. Mainly because you have to flash the kernel in fastboot if you use HTC unlock.

Thanks for your quick response, thats just it I'm not realy a flashaholic and if I see a rom that I would like to flash, a little extra work wouldn't bother me stability speed and no issues have presedence for me, not worried about look at what I got, just overall balanced goodness

It doesn't. It downgrades the hboot version. Now, if you s-off, you can flash any radio you wish. The recommended one is either the latest .1111 or .0722.

Yes I have the latest.1111 with 2.3.4 Gingerbread, 5.10.605.9, kernel 2.6.35.9, it downgrades more than just the hboot doesn't it? I thought it downgraded the whole OS.
It will put you back to 2.2 or 2.3 I think but it does not affect radio. You van then flaws one of the rooms based off the latest stock update ( what you have) if that's what you want. Also, you can't oc stock kernel, use dresdills 21. Also if u use the HTC method you are guaranteed void warranty cause they know what you done. If you use other method you can revert to completely stock if you need too and they will never know if you need to because of hardware issues. Charging ports have been known to go bad so I would keep that in mind...

Yes I've heard about that kernel, I'm pretty sure that once you root they know it cause all there tracking, or most of there tracking software goes offline for them, and they know that the only reason, for the most part, that the phone dissapeared is root. I thought htc unlock still gave you a warranty although more limitted. And yes I learned from the Eris when the phone is on the charger be extra extra carefull with it, even if it meens don't touch it.
Root doesn't take out anything, and I'm not sure what tracking your referring to anyways. The only way anything would be took out is if you do it, or the rom you install does. If they know you done it, and you think it may be more limited, that's just a way of saying now we have a reason to deny you anytime we feel like it. But if your set on that, do it, not gonna argue its your phone could care less, you wanted opinions you got it, either way good luck...

I never said that root in and of itself took out anything, it's the stuff we take out once we root. Your not sure what tracking I'm referring to, Look up Carrier IQ .
I charged this phone turned it on bypassed activation shut off the networks just to play around with it and it was still reporting network traffic, How, Why?
This phone has the ability to get past the switch thats thrown when you shut off your data connections. I did just activate the phone, I had forgot to turn data back on before doing so, but it didn't matter; after phone booted up and was settling in I saw the 3g icon pop up in the status bar, thats what reminded me, [I thought I shut that off] and sure enough it was still off, yet it still sent data, but where to? I'm not set on anything yet, yes I'm trying to get many opinions and I thank you for your input this phones been out for a while now and many things have changed since it was first released, like ICS, and htc unlock of the hboot. Much of the activity about rooting this phone is a year or more old and with the deals and such that are being thrown around now to move the remaning stock off shelves there will be ( I'm sure ) many newcomers to the phone and this forum so an updated collection of thoughts on this I figured would be welcome especially if there was some input from the veterans of this phone. And again thank you

Does CM11 Require S-Off or Root?

I already asked this in the newbie thread but they sent me here...
I'm getting confused after reading countless threads regarding root, s-off, and 4.4.2 so I'll keep my question brief:
Can I get CM11 on my HTC One (Verizon)? I have a stock phone with 4.4.2, not rooted, and s-on. I know s-off cannot be achieved due to root being unavailable at this time. Is there another method to get a custom ROM onto the phone?

You're kind of in a waiting game right now. Sounds like Mobile Tech Videos can get you S-Off...for $75. Beaups has been quiet for awhile, I would assume he's working on an exploit though.

Ok, I kind of figured that was going to be the answer. I wasn't sure if there was some sort of side loading method floating around that I missed. I'm definitely not paying $75 for root. Does the java card method that only costs $25 not work? I'd be willing to pay that but not much more...

I believe it would, but I don't think anyone has successfully gotten a hold of Sonic. I tried back when 4.3 wasn't able to be cracked and Ive never heard back.

There is talk of a guy that says he has an exploit for 4.4.2 but he isn't willing to release it till August. People has linked his twitter where he has talked about it. I know it does no one any good from now till then and I am sire we will get more updates by then and could patch his exploit. So basically a waiting game for people that has 4.4.2. Not Mich else you can do. Worse case scenario is not to take any ota till August and hope the guy releases it.

Yeah I've been following those threads. Let's just hope someone else finds a way to root the darn thing. I'm so pissed at myself that I took the update without thinking about it. The phone works fine without a custom ROM but I just installed an appradio in my car and I want full mirroring. ARUnchained requires root to work....ugh

Trust me most of us are waiting and are on the same boat. I can't wait to put cm11 on my work Verizon phone because the battery life is so horrible and I actually do use the phone for work. On a normal work day from 10-8pm I usually have to plug it up to charge by 1-2pm :-/

[Q] General question about rooting history?

So i know AT&T and Verizon users are not able to root their devices at this point! Has it ever been like this for devices Like S4,S5,Note 3 etc?.... If so, did they take a long time to get rooted too?....
it seems AT&T and Verizon pay more to their software developers to make this harder for everyone!!!!....
in short; no.
bootloaders have started to be locked down more over time on att/vzn but nothing major till of late. the s5 is actually rooted already, so only the note 4 is left. if the note 4 never gets root it'll be the first major flagship to go rootless.
I remember the s4 was out for about 2 months before we got root by having a bootloader patch tricking it (loki) but shortly after it was updated over for the later of bootloader phones...now they use run safestrap and still can't get any non TouchWiz rom I was one of the lucky ones who froze the updater apps before they automatically pushed it

I think you may be confusing root with unlocked bootloader. root was achieved before the phone even came out, the bootloader wasnt unlocked till a week or two after, but wasn't released so Verizon couldn't patch it yet. that way verizon ppl could have an unlocked bootloader on their phone as well.
root has ALWAYS been something we had.
I dislike locked bootloaders, but can get over it, root is just so **** necessary for BASIC functionality..
what I dont get is why more manufacturers wont take a page out of HTC's (or was it Moto?) book and allow people to unlock the bootloader from a website. If you agree to void the warranty, why not allow people to do that...

this. i've been holding off on the note4 to see when root arrives. if root doesn't come out before nex6 release i'm going to have to jump ship...which is too bad...would lose functionality going that route but lack of root trumps all else...

Idk...I've rooted every phone I've had and for the first time I don't necessarily need it as of right now

Same here. Of course I would prefer being able to root it, but I think I could deal with the scenario of that not happening ever, I really like this phone that much!
It's been great even without root, but there are just a couple things I'd like to change. For example I hate the emojis on here (prefer the standard hangouts emoji) and I could easily fix that with root. Other than that I can live with the phone as is. I do miss some Xposed modules though
The things I'm missing that require root:
Titanium Backup
AdAway
Being able to modify my DPI
Avast Anti-Theft
Pretty sure there's more but those are what I can think of off the top of my head...

I'd like to have those options as well but, like the others have stated, I like this phone so much that I could easily get used to not having root. I pledged and hope someone finds an exploit but I am loving this phone as is.

yea im in the same boat as a lot of people who need root for Ti Backup so all my game saves and what not... kinda a bummer.... I guess ill have to wait a bit longer for the upgrade... or maybe pick up a S5 instead...

Yeah I'm loving this phone, but if root is unachievable I might have to sell it and get a T-Mobile version...
