S-OFF Error - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to S-OFF my HTC Desire which is currently running LeeDroid 3.0.5
At the end of the process (USB Method) it says TC-Box:~S
Also says it is unable to enumulate with USB device on Port 1.
Any idea as to why this is happening or what solutions to do?
Thanks

Try CD method, it's the better way to s-off your device There is less bugs
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App

Tried that as well. Burnt the ISO to the disk using Magic Iso. EXACTLY the same error :/

There was someone else reporting a similar issue. He finally managed to solve it by flashing stock RUU and then going through the whole rooting, s-off-ing and flashing ROM procedure.

I had the same problem.. I used a virtual machine instead of burning a CD!!

Easiest way to do it. Flash stock rooted froyo Rom with no a2sd and s-off.
Had same problem on some other Rom. Used usb, after flashing froyo everything went smooth.

I think we are talking about S-OFF with Alpharev?!
Read in a serious german forum this problem could be caused by gingerbread. It is recommended to install a FROYO-Rom for S-OFF with Alpharev.
Detailled instruction:
1.) COMPLETE NANDROID- backup
2.) Download a FROYO- ROM (i used DeFroST)
3.) Copy it on your sd-card
4.) Start your phone in Recovery
5.) Do a FULL Wipe
6.) Flash FROYO- ROM
7.) Reboot your phone completely (to the homescreen of the new ROM)
8.) Download the iso from Alpharev-Homepage, check MD5 if file is complete and burn the ISO on CD
9.) Start your PC with the created disk [eventually u have to change your boot order (disk-drive on first position)]
10.) Follow the instructions on the screen (i only had to connect my Desire with PC in USB-Debug-Mode. Then I waited til i got the message that S-OFF is complete)
11.) After S-OFF is complete, boot your phone into recovery
12.) Restore the constructed backup
13.) Have fun with your previously ROM and S-OFF
Followed these steps tomorrow and it worked properly without any problems.

With this TuT, it´s worked for me...
I was trying about 5 hours to S-Off it... Hours of read threads, google und the questions was here...
Thank you very much

Interesting. I had problems (device not recognised / supported at this time) trying s-off with rooted stock froyo sense, after making a goldcard.
Never got to the bottom of it but as soon as I flashed oxygen (gingerbread) it worked fine!
CD method best, virtualbox kept crashing for me!

Gonna S-OFF my Desire - few questions

1. Do i need to flash default recovery before i S-OFF, actually i have CWM 2.5.0.7 (i believe it will be replaced with AlphaRev recovery 2.5.1.8?)
2. Do i have to wipe everything in my phone, including ROM ? (i have RCMixHD d2ext ATM), or i need to revert stock RUU first?
3. SDCard need to be formatted without EXT partition when doing S-OFF?
4. Reverting to stock RUU will Root my phone again?
1. read the guide
2. read the guide
3. read the guide
4. Just do as the guide says
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805811
Follow what is said EXACTLY .... I used Virual Machine because I had no disks to burn, but burning a disk is probably easier
If the guide does not tell you to wipe your phone, then dont wipe your phone
Guide you linked doesnt say to wipe anything, and this is quote from official AlphaRev website:
Requirements:
The only requirement right now is that the ROM you're running is rooted.
As techniques such as 'data2ext' have been popping up, these might disturb our finely-tuned flashing process.
Please revert to a rooted stock ROM if possible. Your /data partition is used for temporary storage of important files.

Are you using Data2Ext then? You didn't state that...
Revert to a rooted rom with no data2ext
... Then
CD version
1.download Alpha Rev.iso
2.burn .iso image to CD using a iso burning software eg. Power ISO
3.boot from CD eg. Hold F12 at boot
4.press the Legendary enter
TIPS connect USB when the CD has booted + DON'T TOUCH IT UNLESS IT TELLS YOU TO
PREREQUISITES :
a ROOTed HTC Desire ROM with debugging option enabled.
a computer running Windows XP/Vista/7 (32 or 64 bits), Linux, or Emulation via WMware etc.

Make sure you read everything several times first and understand everything before you do this.
1. You phone will not get wiped while setting your phone to s-off but you will need to wipe it when you flash a new partition table. If you flash a new table you should wipe your cache before taking a backup or it will not fit in the new partition sizes.
2. I would wipe your phone and flash a ROM that doesn't have d2ext or anything such as that. I had mine running Oxygen when I went through this.
3. I'm not sure about removing your EXT partition but I don't think it will cause any problems..though if you're flashing a new table to gain more space the EXT might not be needed. Oxygen runs better without it.
4. Flashing your RUU WILL root your phone again...no need to do that.
Ok i did S-OFF my phone successfully, i have corresponding HBOOT image on my SD card, im in FASTBOOT mode but i dont understand this step:
3) Flash HBOOT with your phone in fastboot mode (Back+POWER) -> 'fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img' (change into the correct filename for the HBOOT you downloaded)

How i can type anything in there? i dont see any console or whatever, i can choose: Bootloader, Reboot, Reboot Bootloader, Power Down.
You need to have ADB installed and you run those commands from CMD on your PC while your phone is in Fastboot.
And have the HBOOT img file in the /tools folder where were you put your ADB files.
Connect your Phone to the PC in fastboot.
You must have Android SDK installed on your PC.
Then run the fastboot command from the Command promt from your PC.
Also the .img file must be in the same place as the fastboot.exe.
I just downloaded PBIMG99.zip flashed it on fastboot and it worked fine, thanks for help guys

[Q] Flashing derire...problem

Hi,
Whenever i try flashing htc desire with alpharev cd method...i get an error as soon as my device is found..sumthing like cmd.exe not found
please help..
HTC DESIRE..with android 2.2 rooted with unrevoked 3.2
please guide
Do i need to put the bravo_alphaspl.img file in my ph first and then try the cd method..
or first i have to go thru the cd method
then palce the img file on my ph and use it thru boot loader??
please guide as i am totally confused and i dont want to brick my ph
Is your phone in USB-Debug-Mode and connected with "only charge/ never ask for connection mode" to your computer?
Maybe it's because htc sync is installed?, i've never heard of that error before..

With the alpharev cd method you start computer from a cd with a linux-live-system, which was only made for s-off. So your OS installed on harddisk does not start at all. Therefore HTC Sync, which is usually installed on windows, or rather any program installed on your computer is unable to disturb.

You just download the alpharev iso to your hard drive, burn it to CD and boot from that, following on screen instructions.
I had a problem with "device not recognised or unsupported at this time" and I wonder if yours is similar. I had stock sense 2.2, rooted with unrevoked 3.3.2.
As soon as I flashed a rooted, non-sense rom (oxygen as it happens), it worked first time!
I have tried almost evrything..still i am not able to make alpharev work for me..
I dont want to flash a new rom..cos the only thing i want is some extra internal space by deleting some system apps..
so is it possible to re-root my ph using unrevoked 3.32 ( as it provides s-off and nand unlock which will allow me to install bb) from unrevoked 3.2 directly
or should i first unroot unrevoked 3.2 and then root it with 3.32
You have rooted your phone with unrevoked right? So you must have a revovery-system. Do the following:
1.) Download an AOSP-Rom like oxygen or defrost (which i used without any problems)
2.) Copy the zip on your sd-card
3.) Reboot your phone into recovery
4.) Do a complete nandroid backup
5.) Do a full wipe (nandroid backup won't get deleted)
6.) Flash downloaded AOSP-Rom
7.) Reboot phone completely
8.) S-Off your phone with alpharev by following the steps on the screen after booting your computer with the downloaded cd
9.) Boot your phone completely
10.) Reboot your phone into recovery
11.) Restore nandroidbackup
12.) Reboot phone
13.) Have fun with S-OFF and your previous rom
I did it so a few days ago and it worked properly without any problems ;-)

Finally i was able to complete the flashing part with livecd method..
thanks ppl for the help
now i have another noooooob ques..
why do i have to flash hboot with bravo_alphaspl.img??
what is the use of it??
and how to do it??
i placed the img file in the root of my sd card and tried to access it in the fastboot mode but i didnt find ""flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img"" option there
so what am i doing wrong??
also i did a nandroid backup..now how should i check the md5sum generated in the backup??
another thing...i rechecked the system folder properties through es file explorer..and it still says that the folder is not writable?? and still i am not able to install bb in my device...
Download the .img file
Then download Android Flasher
Then select HBOOT and choose the partition table you have.
What's the use of it? I think it was explained a million times in various threads/ROM threads etc. - shortly more internal memory for apps (ROM dependant).
You have to check the root exlorer- option in the settings of es datei explorer. But it only works for CM and HIAPK- rom... imho you have to buy root explorer to get the best root exploring.

Attempted to downgrade and root;success but not sure, help please.

Okay this is the first thing I did to my phone, Downgrade:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055581
6. Type this command into your cmd prompt (btw you should be back with the normal C:\RootVision>)
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
7. Once on your white screen with colourful text you can go ahead and press the power button ONCE
8. Now just wait for the rom to install and verify. If you get INCORRECT CID your gold card doesn’t work or your CID doesn't match and you'll need a goldcard. (Go to Step 1. and make a goldcard for your phone)
9. Go ahead and install the rom when it asks you.
10. You are done downgrading and can now begin the Rooting process.
I got to these steps, I did step 6 and 7, once I pressed the power button once, I waited and said “verifying PCIMG10.zip” with more text under it but I couldn’t read it cause it went by fast. After that it didn’t do anything. So I assumed I downgraded and it worked and then I just pressed the “power down” option.
UPDATE: I went back into recovery and check it says "verifying PCIMG10.zip" and it says "no image!"
Immediately after I did that:

After I did all this, I read in the wiki, - Before "gfree" was available, transitory ("fake") S-OFF was achieved by flashing an engineering hBoot, but it is not safe and not recommended for newbies.”
So now I want to install a ROM but is scared to because I am not 100% sure I did everything right in regards to downgrading and using “rage” instead of “gfree”.
Can someone point me in the right direction on what to do now?

Just go ahead and install the ROM. The worst that's going to happen is a soft brick and there are guides out there that can help you recover from that. Worst case scenario is that you'd be forced to get the Doubleshot when it comes out.
Well by following that guide to get S-Off and Root access you should now install ClockWorkMod for your phone. Then from there install any ROM you want via ClockWorkMod recovery. Although, you should definitely do a nandroid backup via clockworkmod before you flash a rom but thats up to you.
Hey buddy i had the same problem as you..but i fixed it.the reason your getting wrong image is because you have to check the PC10IMG.zip file on your sd card. rename it so the booting will load..for me that worked I renamed it to PC10IMG.. on its own..then was able to reboot DZ and now on old stock rom..i was on 1.82xx thanks to the guide.

[Q] HTC Desire, potential brick, HELP PLEASE

I've had a look for a thread similar to this but I'm new to all of this, so if there is one, I haven't been able to find it. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. Even if it is only to direct me in the right direction.
As I said I'm a bit of a noob, I've been trying all day to root my HTC Desire, which I'd upgraded to Gingerbread 2.3.3 stock update from the HTC website. I was able to make it S-OFF but for some reason I found myself unable to install Clockwordmod Recovery. So i decided to follow this
ww.mikesouthby.co.uk/2010/08/htc-desire-downgrading-hboot-and-installing-custom-froyo-rom/ to downgrade to froyo and root it from there.. but when I went to turn on my phone after completely the steps shown, the htc logo flashes on and then the screen goes black, but I still hear the chimes.
I am able to access the bootloader screen, this is what is displayed, as I'm guessing as this was aid anyone who is willing to help me get my phone working again!

Since you are S-Off already can you now access recovery from the bootloader screen? If yes, then try to download a new ROM. There are a lot of ROMs on the developers section. Do a full wipe and flash a different ROM
I'm a noob by XDA standards but from the looks of it it's just a bad ROM flash.
because you're S-OFF this makes your job a billion times easier.. all you have to do is flash recovery.
unzip the file I attached into c:\
download recovery, rename it to "recovery.img" (for simplicity, you'll see later) and also put it in c:\
then follow these steps:
Go to start menu, accessories, command prompt
in command prompt type the following commands:
Code:
cd\
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase cache
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot oem gencheckpt
you should now be in recovery, go to "mounts & storage" and wipe "system", "userdata", "cache" & "boot".
Once you've done that, simply flash a new ROM

If you're able to access recovery, it's a very simple task of wiping your phone and installing a new ROM.
If you for whatever reason can't, you will need to use a RUU to restore it to it's factory state, and root again.
Hi,
I have similar problem: I can boot to bootloader only.
I completed root and s-off process and installed new rom. Everything was great, but I didn't have enough memory for applications and I tried to partition SD card with ROM manager to enable a2sd. After I ran Rom manager, I found that RECOVERY options disappeared. And I decided to re s-off with alpharev and it was stacked at step 3 .
Is there still any option to make it alive?

[Q] HTC Bravo / Desire Hangs with Red Circle Screen (T-MOB101)

first things first: sorry for the same topic (loads here, but none helps / maybe i can't find the exact problem)
my phone hangs, recovery did not work, so i am on my own repair journey.
it's been two days but it is not a problem. too many guides (confused, read bortak's too, not sure which one works for my problem)
so maybe i need to settle it with a post.
first, the specs.
here is what i got via left button + power button on reboot.

bravo pvt3 ship s-off (done by me via revolutionary)
hboot-6.93.1002
microp 0514
touch panel ...
radio 5.11.05.27
aug 10 2010
the phone comes with 4gb microsd
what i am trying to achieve first
-a working htc desire with stock android
-CCID is T-MOB101 (via fastboot devices, adb devices not listing anything) (RUU_Bravo_Froyo_TMO_UK_2.12.110.4_R_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157560_signed)
what next (if i can get past the above)
- root the phone with unrevoked3
- install any custom rom
the process
- remove sim card and memory card from phone (OK)
- restart phone via left + power button
- connect the phone via fastboot usb (OK)
- enter few commands (OK):
fastboot flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
- run RUU of image above. (OK)
- the phone reboots; and there is a red circle screen (FAILED, stuck at there)
i- so what am i doing wrong?
ii- once, i manage to complete successful boot, but once i tried to root via unrevoked (is this necessary for custom roms?), it failed again at the second reboot, with the red circle screen again. and now i can't get past the RUU.
any ideas? what is actually the problem?
i manage to turn it s-on via alpharev downgrader.
run the RUU again.
still red circle on boot up.

i-tried step 7 based on bortak (PB image on microsd) - SUCCESS
ii-tried to s-off and root via revolutionary.io - FAILED, stuck on red circle again.

that guide covers how to root after revolutionary...
also read all of the instructions that go with revolutionary, you'll find out how to do it there
however if you want to install custom rom at this point, you don't actually need to root.
you are s-off with custom recovery. so you can already:
- boot into recovery
- nandroid backup your current setup
- full wipe
- flash rom of choice (check specific hboot requirements and sd-ext partitions for each rom)
you only need to root your current rom if you have apps and data you wish to backup and transfer them to new rom using something like titanium backup. make sure all your contacts are backed up to google, and sms with something like 'sms backup and restore'
succeess! thanks man.
i am confused with the need for s-off and root.
so that means i don't have to root to install a mod if i have already s-off!
used revolutionary to s-off + recovery (via revolutionary) - success!
used recovery clockwordmod to nandroid backup, wipe cache and install oxygen mod - success !
i am really happy!

glad you got it done, but no offence sounds like it would help to do a little more reading before you start flashing away.
root and s-off are subtly different, i would explain but bortak has recently done it again here
i also recommend reading all the guides here, should help your understanding of terminologies, procedures, sd partitions, hboots, memory stuff etc.
also when i said full wipe i meant the 'wipe data/factory reset' option as a minimum within recovery. wipe cache is something else. if you only wiped cache you'll likely start to get a lot of errors where bits of system from old rom and new rom get mixed up...
