[Q] Flashing derire...problem - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Whenever i try flashing htc desire with alpharev cd method...i get an error as soon as my device is found..sumthing like cmd.exe not found
please help..
HTC DESIRE..with android 2.2 rooted with unrevoked 3.2

please guide
Do i need to put the bravo_alphaspl.img file in my ph first and then try the cd method..
or first i have to go thru the cd method
then palce the img file on my ph and use it thru boot loader??
please guide as i am totally confused and i dont want to brick my ph

Is your phone in USB-Debug-Mode and connected with "only charge/ never ask for connection mode" to your computer?

Maybe it's because htc sync is installed?, i've never heard of that error before..

With the alpharev cd method you start computer from a cd with a linux-live-system, which was only made for s-off. So your OS installed on harddisk does not start at all. Therefore HTC Sync, which is usually installed on windows, or rather any program installed on your computer is unable to disturb.

You just download the alpharev iso to your hard drive, burn it to CD and boot from that, following on screen instructions.
I had a problem with "device not recognised or unsupported at this time" and I wonder if yours is similar. I had stock sense 2.2, rooted with unrevoked 3.3.2.
As soon as I flashed a rooted, non-sense rom (oxygen as it happens), it worked first time!

I have tried almost evrything..still i am not able to make alpharev work for me..
I dont want to flash a new rom..cos the only thing i want is some extra internal space by deleting some system apps..
so is it possible to re-root my ph using unrevoked 3.32 ( as it provides s-off and nand unlock which will allow me to install bb) from unrevoked 3.2 directly
or should i first unroot unrevoked 3.2 and then root it with 3.32

You have rooted your phone with unrevoked right? So you must have a revovery-system. Do the following:
1.) Download an AOSP-Rom like oxygen or defrost (which i used without any problems)
2.) Copy the zip on your sd-card
3.) Reboot your phone into recovery
4.) Do a complete nandroid backup
5.) Do a full wipe (nandroid backup won't get deleted)
6.) Flash downloaded AOSP-Rom
7.) Reboot phone completely
8.) S-Off your phone with alpharev by following the steps on the screen after booting your computer with the downloaded cd
9.) Boot your phone completely
10.) Reboot your phone into recovery
11.) Restore nandroidbackup
12.) Reboot phone
13.) Have fun with S-OFF and your previous rom
I did it so a few days ago and it worked properly without any problems ;-)

Finally i was able to complete the flashing part with livecd method..
thanks ppl for the help
now i have another noooooob ques..
why do i have to flash hboot with bravo_alphaspl.img??
what is the use of it??
and how to do it??
i placed the img file in the root of my sd card and tried to access it in the fastboot mode but i didnt find ""flash hboot bravo_alphaspl.img"" option there
so what am i doing wrong??
also i did a nandroid backup..now how should i check the md5sum generated in the backup??
another thing...i rechecked the system folder properties through es file explorer..and it still says that the folder is not writable?? and still i am not able to install bb in my device...

Download the .img file
Then download Android Flasher
Then select HBOOT and choose the partition table you have.
What's the use of it? I think it was explained a million times in various threads/ROM threads etc. - shortly more internal memory for apps (ROM dependant).

You have to check the root exlorer- option in the settings of es datei explorer. But it only works for CM and HIAPK- rom... imho you have to buy root explorer to get the best root exploring.

can i unplug the usb??
what should i do now???

please help ppl.... what should i do now??
do i need to reboot now to complete the process or it should automatically reboot the ph...??
atm is there any chance that my ph can get bricked..??

I cannot help you because i do not know the programm you are using.

Desire broken?

Hi,
I flashed a modified framework-res.apk I got from the emulator (using the new Gingerbread) and flashed it to Oxygen 1.0. I have a GSM, AMOLED Desire.
Now my sdcard doesn't get recognized anymore and the device isn't able to connect to O2 Germany. When I try to connect the phone to my PC (Windows) I get a message that Windows wants to install a "Qualcomm CDMA technologies MSM" driver.
I still can boot the phone up, I can get into recovery (AmonRa 2.0.0) and fastboot.
Can anyone help me?
Flash a stock ROM - ignore the Windows driver thing, that's to do with a modem if you Google it. Why you'd take something from Gingerbread and try it on FroYo is beyond me - super rookie mistake right there!!

1. It only was the framework-res.apk and I only took the images from it.
2. I don't have access to my sdcard. Is it still possible to flash a stock ROM?
Try flashing a rom via fastboot.

As you are on o2 Germany, grab this RUU:
http://www.o2online.de/nw/support/downloads/software/htc/htcdesire/htc-desire.html
and reroot via unrevoked, gonna delete everything on your device but should work, you might want to take your sd card out of the phone before doing this just in case anything weird happens ;-)
best regards
That's the same as the o2 UK RUU on shipped-roms.com, would also mean no gold card needed to flash it
How can I get the ROM image as zip file? Is it the OTA update.zip?
Edit: Read the next post, some genius information, learned sth new there : >
If you're talkin bout my solution there is no way to get the zip, simply install HTC sync (yes, you have to -.-), fire up the executable and follow the on screen instructions.
It's the full RUU. To get the PB99IMG.zip from it do the following:
1. Run the RUU
2. Once you get to the first screen of the RUU, move it to the bottom of your screen and go to Start>Run and type
%temp%
And click OK
3. Browse to the newest folder created in the Temp folder
4. In the folder will be a ZIP file called Rom - copy this to your Desktop
5. Rename thr ZIP file to PB99IMG.zip (not PB99IMG.zip.zip) and copy it to the root of your SD card
6. Turn your phone on whilst holding volume down and follow the instructions
I think you don't have to flash a RUU rom. Flashing for example oxygen via fastboot again should do the trick.

Better to flash stock again to get everything working again then root again

I have the nandroid .img files of my system before I got those problems. Would it be possible to flash those somehow via fastboot?
For that method I said you do NOT need FASTBOOT. So long as you can connect you SD card to your PC to copy the ZIP file to it and turn your phone on into HBOOT then you'll be fine. If, and it's a big if, it doesn't read the card then yes you'll have to use FASTBOOT and an RUU - you don't need HTC Sync for that

It's now updating. I hope it doesn't matter that I have removed the hboot- and splash-image from the zip-file.

Removed them from what? The PB99IMG.zip? Why on earth would you do that?!?!?! It's going to brick your phone!!
Just flash back to stock and start again

Currently it's just a piece of hardware that is only capable of using WiFi. I can't damage it more. But maybe you're right. I will install the unchange zip file.
But it would be interesting to know what went wrong. Why does using images from the Gingerbread emulator framework-res.apk for a FroYo ROM leads to such an result?
Because the rest of the ROM isn't Gingerbread. It's completely different. It's like me taking a customised framework file and trying to use it on a stock ROM. It doesn't work
Just go back to stock and start again. That way you know you've got a clean base to start from

S-OFF Error

Trying to S-OFF my HTC Desire which is currently running LeeDroid 3.0.5
At the end of the process (USB Method) it says TC-Box:~S
Also says it is unable to enumulate with USB device on Port 1.
Any idea as to why this is happening or what solutions to do?
Thanks
Try CD method, it's the better way to s-off your device There is less bugs

Tried that as well. Burnt the ISO to the disk using Magic Iso. EXACTLY the same error :/

There was someone else reporting a similar issue. He finally managed to solve it by flashing stock RUU and then going through the whole rooting, s-off-ing and flashing ROM procedure.
I had the same problem.. I used a virtual machine instead of burning a CD!!
Easiest way to do it. Flash stock rooted froyo Rom with no a2sd and s-off.
Had same problem on some other Rom. Used usb, after flashing froyo everything went smooth.

I think we are talking about S-OFF with Alpharev?!
Read in a serious german forum this problem could be caused by gingerbread. It is recommended to install a FROYO-Rom for S-OFF with Alpharev.
Detailled instruction:
1.) COMPLETE NANDROID- backup
2.) Download a FROYO- ROM (i used DeFroST)
3.) Copy it on your sd-card
4.) Start your phone in Recovery
5.) Do a FULL Wipe
6.) Flash FROYO- ROM
7.) Reboot your phone completely (to the homescreen of the new ROM)
8.) Download the iso from Alpharev-Homepage, check MD5 if file is complete and burn the ISO on CD
9.) Start your PC with the created disk [eventually u have to change your boot order (disk-drive on first position)]
10.) Follow the instructions on the screen (i only had to connect my Desire with PC in USB-Debug-Mode. Then I waited til i got the message that S-OFF is complete)
11.) After S-OFF is complete, boot your phone into recovery
12.) Restore the constructed backup
13.) Have fun with your previously ROM and S-OFF
Followed these steps tomorrow and it worked properly without any problems.
With this TuT, it´s worked for me...
I was trying about 5 hours to S-Off it... Hours of read threads, google und the questions was here...
Thank you very much

Interesting. I had problems (device not recognised / supported at this time) trying s-off with rooted stock froyo sense, after making a goldcard.
Never got to the bottom of it but as soon as I flashed oxygen (gingerbread) it worked fine!

[Q] i bricked my phone

hi i try to install one of the custom ROM last night but when i update the phone with ROM manager it will not start i can get in to the boot and clockwork recovery but that's it i try recovering it but nothing i tried using one of the ruu_bravo.exe but i get so far then it say error 107 what do i need to do to get it back to normal ?????
Which ROM did you try? What version of cwm do you have? Did you flash in Recovery? Did you do nandroid backup first? Did you use correct RUU for your device/carrier?
More information please (and full-stops, commas and capital letters, so I don't go blue reading one long sentence...)
hi its it cyanogenmod 7.0.3 which i now got working its pretty kool but if i do change my mind and i want to go back to the original htc desire rom which do i choose
my network is orange uk
phone htc desire
and if you need more info just ask and thanks for the quick reply

Is USB debugging enabled? I'm not sure it matters if using ruu, but it does for all other operations involving connecting via USB!
yes
hi i did check that and it was so i did try with out it enabled and it did not even start with it enable it start then give me a 107 error so ???? it because i flash the new rom or is it my windows 7 drivers or even settings ??
Don't use Rom-manager for flash, update, backup.it gives u more trouble then it solves.experienced user recommend not to use it.
i am also in same situation like you few days ago usb bricked and stuck on stock rom..and i solved my problem by doing this steps.
after i unlocked my sd card via fastboot command"fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" sd card recognized by phone and i can browse it via file explorer.
then i copied the visionary+(it gave me temporary root access which is needed to work this whole thing out).
root explorer, terminal emulator apk and those usb bricked update file(image_flash,mtd0.img) to sdcard from pc via card reader and installed them.
before copy those update file on sd card i edited the mtd0.img to put correct cid n rom info via hex editor.
after that i copied those update file in phone memory
/data/data/ and set permission for r/w and execute with the help of root explorer as i got root permission
after that i simply typed this command in terminal emulator
"su
/data/data/flash_image misc /data/data/mtd0.img"
Rebooted my phone and voila usb brick is gone htc sync, usb tethering,sd card mount, charge everything is working
i fixed it with a little help
OK my wife has the same phone as me so all i did was use clockwork recovery to make a back up img of her phone and then i flashed it and it had all her data and the phone went in to safe mode so i factory reset and its now all fine and working with the original rom

[Q] Cannot mount SD Card(clockworkmod)

Hi Experts,
I am getting serious problem in my clockworkmod recovery, I am not able to mount the card because of which I am not able to install any ROM, the thing is that I do not have any ROM installed on my phone so cannot go out from boot/recovery window.
I am getting error like when I try to open SD directory from recovery
can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0
Please help I tried searching the thread but could not find any good solution.
Formatted the SD-card card also but no success
I am having the same problem here
Plz help expert , I tried to use another sd card also although it was old with 128 mb space but same error was shown in recovery,
it is the case the the sd port might have been corrupted?
then i think the phone is gone
plz help
Plz help guys...no one to suggest something ...m thinking of taking the phone at service center....but u i think warranty is void now ...as it is rooted...
ok soz i just read 1st post carefully, will help you momentairly
also i need to know is your phone S-OFF ?? (did you do the alpharev procedure or just unrevoked)
you must set up ADB on your pc : http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/ you dont need to do steps 3-5 since you already have the drivers (the same as rooting), you must download the ADB files from 'update' part after the step six, and dont do ADB devices cmd, do 'fastboot devices' while in fastboot mode (back+power) to check if you get a serial number (if yes it works if not you didnt do it right way)
when done, put your phone into fastboot mode (back+power) and in windows command prompt do :
fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
this should fix your SD, then go into recovery and check if you can mount your SD (USB storage) to use it in windows, if yes you are good if not that is an USB-brick, it is fixable so dont worry
Thanks for the help .... Will try this ASAP....hope it helps
Also my phone is NOT S-OFF...Do i need this before proceeding or can I solve the issue like this..??
you dont need S-OFF and, if you have USB-brick i dont think you can make this procedure
first, do what i told you (set up adb and enable your sd card) and check if your phone has any usb-connectivity
also this will help you - How to set up pc to use adb and fastboot (if you wont make it with unlockr method)

I am now able to to mount SD card and able to see all files
but wen I run them thru recovery it show..
opening package.. then updating package.. then it returns to main screen of CWM recovery... does nothing ...this is happeing with all the zip files...
are you 100% sure the .zip file are OK ?
try downloading Oxygen ROM and flashing it.
also i do understand you can connect your phone with computer with USB cable [with USB storage enabled in recovery, does the windows see the FAT partition on sdcard] ?
check your md5 sums - or flash another recovery
Yes the zip files are OK i already installed them before (RCmixS)
but wen i mount from recovery the usb is not seen in windows...
but now m able to see the files in sd in recovery but cannot install ROM thru it..or run any zip file
usb brick ? Usb cannot be seen by windows?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691187
If i insert USB separately thru adapter it can be seen but wen the mount thru recovery it is not seen..does this mean it has bricked ..windows says cannot recognize mass storage device...
plz help guys still no gain...cant install rom...
firstly lets try to flash a rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839640&highlight=clockworkmod
download clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 ZIP file and put it onto your SD
then boot into recovery and flash the downloaded CWM.zip, it should now boot up into clockworkmod 3.0.0.5
now try flashing a ROM (rcmixs or some AOPS - Oxygen or CM7)
you can also try with clockworkmod 3.2.0.1 (but 3.0.0.5 is better imho)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039954&highlight=clockworkmod
now hopefully you will have a bootable device. now the usb-brick.
all you need to know is in the 1st posts of this two threads
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143252&highlight=usb-brick
also in the second thread there is 'visionary+' mentioned but you do not need it, since you are rooted already.
both threads describe the same method, read them and you will know what to do.
good luck
-----------------------
if for any reason you cant flash a ROM with a diffrent recovery then im outta ideas. someone else would have to figure out why cant you flash a ROM (not being able to flash a rom has got nothing to do with usb-brick)
just to be safe, try with oxygen.
----------------------
and if nothing works you could try a RUU (put phone into fastboot and then run the .exe file on PC and it will work) this should restore you to a Stock unrooted rom, but the USB-Brick will still be there, so you would need to do the method from 2nd thread with visionary+ to gain temp root
thanks a lot dzumagos
for all the help...will try it ...
simply try to change the recovery with unrevoked , download amonra recovery and it should work
But doesnt changing the recovery with unrevoked works when u have a ROM install...
As I do not have any ROM installed can I change the Recovery.....
the thing is I rooted the phone long back and now I forgot how I did it....need to search it ...
Also when I run CWM 3.0.0.5 thru recovery it changes to 3.0 but wen i reboot the recovery again CWM 2.5 comes
y is that so ??
yes it is the way it is supposed to be
it is called 'fake-flash' which means CWM 3.0.0.5 is flashed temporairly. so it is gone after a reboot. to flash it permanently you would have to be S-OFF which you are not but that is not a problem.
anyway were you able to flash a ROM using 3.0.0.5 or does is act the same as 2.5.0.7 ???? did you try with Oxygen rom ??

[Q] Root on my HTC Desire

Hello!
I have my desire for more than a year, some time ago I attempted to root my phone but when using the revo ... there was no effect. I have to admit that I have no knowledge on this topic. I want someone to explain step by step what I need to do (preferably with pictures) and one by one said what happens (bootload and everything means nothing for me). I should add that I did not want to upload a new system just to get access to system files. I care about my android play in the substitution of system files. (I hope that after all this root can do).
Ur phone is s-off so to gain root all u have to do is flash superuser zip from recovery

?!?
You're able to do a OTA 2.3.6 update? What magic do you use, or what weed are you smoking?
Can I back to stock after root? (unroot). I also want to get more space on my phone. I read about making sth on SD card but i dont know what have to do. Every tutorial is other and i dont know now how to make.
When i press power button on recovery it shows htc logo and then phone icon with green then turns into a red with an exclamation mark
nlooo: i was asking if it's an option
Any solutions to my problem? Can some one reply me please.
You have to flash a new recovery. Try running revolutionary again, and let it install ClockworkMod.
To "make your internal memory larger", you will need an ext partition on your sdcard, then install a a2sd script.

So there is next problem when you run volume - and power button and then connect to pc it say Android 1.0 ( on revo you need to update drivers but but when i try to do it, it says not found (in that folder)). I got windows 7. Also i read that revo dont allow to root phones with hboot 6.93 or i'm wrong. Sorry for bad english
//thnx for correcting me.
Another way would be through fastboot. If you search the forums, you will find a "fastboot" tool. As I am posting from my phone, and because I suffer from a severe case of laziness, you will have to find it yourself.
Another thing you need is Android Usb Drivers. Google it, download the drivers, then plug the phone in the PC. Go to Device Manager, right click the Android 1.0, then click update , then select update drivers manually. Then browse to the folder you have the android usb drivers content in.
Try using this guide.

Revolutionary would have s-offed you, and would have installed clockworkmod recovery. As you are already s-off, and have their custom hboot, revolutionary will only flash clockworkmod. It's an easy way to do it.

And if u run revolutionary it will tell u that u are already s-off u idiot. Or something like that haha.
Flash new recovery via fastboot commands. Click adb & fastboot in my sig for a guide. then click PB99IMG 4ext recovery in my sig and download PB99IMG.zip and extract "recovery.img" (its the latest 4ext) and flash it using fastboot commands.
Or just do it the PB99IMG method, instructions r there too

Revolutionary flashed the clockworkmod. What a surprise...
Moving on. Backing up from recovery does a full backup of the current state of the phone. If you do something wrong, this will restore your phone to the exact state that it was when the backup was made. Don't forget to make one before making major changes to your phone (rom flashing).
And yes, flashing that superuser.zip will give you root.
Before flashing a rom, after you did a backup, make a factory data reset, and delete cache and dalvik. This will make a clean installation of the rom.
To move your apps from one rom to another, i recommend using Titanium Backup, and restore your apps on the new rom.
Most roms require an ext partition on your sdcard. To partition sdcard, you must flash 4ext recovery. Do this by searching the play store for "4ext recovery control" the app will flash it for you. Then, backup your sd contents to your pc ( the partition proccess will format your sd), Then reboot into recovery, select tools, partition sd-card. Make an ext4 partition of 1gb, and for the rest select 0. Then, congratz, you have an ext partition. To use it, you must flash an a2sd script. I use "mounts2sd". Google it. This script will have to be flashed to any rom you install, every time, unless the rom already has a script built in.
Then you're ready to flash any rom your heard "desires". Hehe... get it... "desires".
P.S. Gold card information:
What a Gold Card does is letting you install ROMs on your Android device that aren’t intended for your carrier. For example,if you have a T-Mobile USA HTC Desire, you can install an official ROM intended for the O2 UK HTC Desire, or even a generic ROM that isn’t locked to a carrier. It does so by disabling the CID (Carrier ID)check that the device does when installing a ROM.
If you have an unlocked desire, then you won't need a gold card.

If you backup from recovery, that backup will be saved on sdcard in the clockworkmod/backup folder.
To install a zip, go to recovery and select "install zip from sdcard" , then find and select the zip. Remember to backup first.
Usually widgets, apps in general come in .apk format. If you want to install one, just install it with root explorer. No need for recovery install.
Anyways, i'm kinda tired. If you have any more questions, ask jmcclue.

Ok.. i wasnt calling u an idiot, i was just trying to be funny! And the instructions i gave is the best way to flash recovery, from fastboot. Not just run revolutionary and he wont need to "buy" 4ext recovery control coz my guide is the latest recovery.

My phone is S-OFF however I am unable to push recovery. I have SU signed package on the SD card though CWM is not there in my phone. I have tried numerous time with both, Unrevoked and Evolution's method but they just won't give me any result but keep me waiting.
I have even tried to flash recovery via fastboot but it returns with an error says "Failed".
Can some one through light on what am I missing?
