[Q] Default build.prop value for ro.product.model and ro.product.? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I modified my build.prop to try and get Netflix to work, which failed. (Sadface.) Today I noticed that Swype has stopped working, searching on the error message it looks like yeah, it also checks ro.product.model or ro.product.manufacturer to make sure you've got the right phone for the version.
Anyways, like an idiot I accidentally deleted my backup build.prop. Turns out even a factory reset doesn't replace that file. So! I was hoping someone had a backed up unmodified build.prop and could quickly tell me what those two lines (ro.product.model and ro.product.manufacturer) read.
Thanks!

Awesome, thanks so much! Fixing the model line and rebooting resolved the Swype issue.

I Need help with a very similar Issue; allow me to explain:
I rooted my Xperia E (C1504) using a C1505 Unbranded Kernel, during the process my build.prop was changed so that the device that shows in settings\about phobne is now C1505, i received an update from sony through update center and i can't install it, i'm guessing because of this issue, i was wandering if you could help me by providing this info so i can edit my build.prop and fix it.
Best Regards

You should ask for a copy of someone's build.prop by posting a question thread in this section http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-j-e/help

Editing Kernel Version ICS In About Phone

Hello
Does anyone know how to edit this? In kernel version on my GNEX it shows 2 kernel versions instead of the one I just recently flashed and I was wanting to change this. Any ideals?
Thanks,
you have to recompile the kernel.
How does one accomplish that?

google search. but i advise you to just leave it alone. its not worth it, especially when you're asking these kind of questions.
Cool I thought it would be something as simple as editing the build.prop in system/ but its not listed there. Thanks anyways bud..........
in a terminal type "uname -r" that is the actual version number for the running kernel. settings should match. if uname reports a strange version number it is probably a bug in the kernel.
Thanks rattking.............this is good info Ill give it a shot.

[Q] S Voice/Vlingo Uninstall and Install Modded Directions Please

I just rooted my phone for the first time and flashed the Frankenstein Ego ROM. I just want to say thank you for the amazing work by everyone here at XDA. You guys are the best!
S voice that comes with the ROM does not work and get a network error. I know that there is a modded version that should work (here if anyone is looking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662358)
I apologize for the noob question, but how do I uninstall the S voice that came with the ROM and Vlingo (I tried Titanium and finding it in the .zip file, but didn't want to play with the latter too much).
Again, thank you for the amazing work. BTW-this ROM is absolutely wonderful.
Please provide step by step directions, I am new to the whole scene.
titanium worked
Never mind. Used titanium to uninstall. The modded version works great!!
For anyone else interested use the S Voice patch v4 on this blog

It looks like there is a v3 is posted on that url.
I examined the script and it's not quite right copying over one of the files that the dev put into that flashable zip. Specifically, there is an etc/permissions folder that isn't being written back to the phone. If the app works, then maybe that file isn't necessary. But if it doesn't someone needs to tell the dev to correct the script and see if it that helps.

It may work the way it is. It wouldn't hurt anything to try it. That was just an observation on my part.
FYI for anyone downloading that flash, it will delete several default files on your phone, including voicetalk.apk and vlingo.apk. If you depend on these apps I thought you would like to know. Please backup your phone prior to flashing this file so you can easily restore everything the way it was.
Updated to v4, thanks man ^

No problem. Like I said, may not even matter but I thought I would point it out in case it was an oversight. Plus I like to see how other people like to code their work and learn from it.

[Q] How to edit the build.prop to emulate Galaxy S4?

Hello,
I've seen many threads implying that editing your build.prop file is simple, yet many other threads exclaiming that people have bricked their devices.
Has anyone successfully edited their SGH-T989/D phones to emulate the SGH-1337M? I have an odd reason, but I don't want to screw up.
Here is a link to the Galaxy S4 (I9500) build prop:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/0...gb-system-dump-leaked-and-ready-for-download/
Here is a link to the SIIx build.prop:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697142
How simple is this process? Which lines should I edit? What is your recommended editor app?
Thanks, I'd rather ask now than beg for solutions later.:fingers-crossed:

Maybe 'emulate' is the wrong word, but I am under the impression that I can swap the model number by changing the ro.product.model in the build.prop file. I want Google to think my SIIx is an S4 so I can access advanced apps that aren't optimized for my SIIx.
Here is a guide I found for simpletons like myself, but I just want to see if anyone else has done so successfully.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1948558
I got impatient and changed the model number in the Build.prop and the phone did not brick. The System Settings on the phone does in fact confirm the updated model number as being SGH-1337M but the Play store hasn't updated the device yet so I can't confirm if my 'illusion' has completely worked.

I changed my build.prop to make my LG L70 work with my Gear 2 watch. The watch got boring so I sold it, now I am looking to switch it back. I copied the original and tried to delete the modded one and it did not allow me. I tried to manually edit build.prop and it wouldnt save.
Any of you know how to revert?

then you have to root it again, and then go through the same process....

[OFFICIAL THREAD] Getting the LG QRemote from 5.0 Korean update working on AOSP 5.x

***OFFICIAL THREAD FOR THIS ISSUE FOR THE OPTIMUS G PRO E980***
I have the necessary APKs and other files to make a flashable zip, however whenever I try to flash it it succeeds but when I click on quickremote, the app force closes on me and will not load. How can we successfully get this to work on lollipop? I have posted several times in the forums but nobody seems to care about helping get this done.
Here is a the link to my pasted logcat relating to this error. I uploaded it to pastebin.

Are you sure, you got all files? Odex file? Another part of the apk? Set the right permissions? Do you use a custom screen density?

First is why I asked about density. Try it out with stock density of the G3
2nd: Those are the patha I'd go diggin. Maybe gonna explain a bit closer/have a closer look tomorrow. Got to sleep now.^^
Amything new here? Have you already searched in the fokders I "mentioned"?
I'm back and trying to get this working once more. It is so odd that the way they got this working on the G2 and G3 does not work on ours. It makes me think that the stock LG ROM with lollipop for the G Pro is just a bunch of hacks LG threw into a zip file which just makes this even more difficult. I'm not going to give up yet though. If anyone else has any suggestions please PM me. I would gladly appreciate more ideas.

I am pretty sure the odex files are generated when the ROM is installed. This means I need to have someone who has the ROM working to get them to me.. The zip only has the files from the system partition.

Really? Interesting. The article says it will run on a 910F as a requirement. Did you have to do anything after flashing the ROM, like a data fix, or something like that?

I flashed the rom and installed the datafix, but couldn't make calls. I read in the xrom main thread that another verizon user had deleted the csc file in the datafix zip, and that allowed him to be able to make calls. I deleted the csc file and was able to make calls. Read through those posts, there are some build prop changes to make, so make sure its something you want to do, and make a backup! It really is a great rom. Have fun.

This one requite a bit of work to get going. You have to let it partially boot to Samsung logo before you can apply the data fix. Didn't have success modifying features.xml or others.xml.to get mms working on my phone. Very promising that the note 7 maybe able to run on the Note 4
