No way to root any of the Evo's with updated software at the moment. The Japanese one because of their hboot and the US version because they fixed the GB exploit.

Heh, but sorry, not at the moment. If you're on 2.10+, you can't.

i thought all evo's were Japanese..

rooted found
i rooted my htc evo wimax isw11ht
flash cynogenmod 7
i finally found it!!!!

Yup! Used Revolutionary to root, then flashed CM7. Works great!

What's the difference between a japanese EVO and a American one?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

The Japanese EVO unfortunately came with HBOOT 2.15.0001 which, until very recently, was unrootable. The Japanese EVO is under KDDI AU here in Japan, rather than Sprint USA. Other than that, I don't think there's really much difference.

Did you have any problems with the WiMax radio once you flashed the CM7 rom onto your phone? It did to mine
Does anyone else have any problems rooting with CDMA phones in Japan?

Yeah. Lost my.Wimax. looking to find a way to get back to AU stock.

There was a stock RUU for the Japanese Evo posted by xhausx on this forum I think. Some people got it to revert back to stock but others didn't.
With mine I had an old image of my rooted stock which I flashed and returned to AU and was able to get it replaced.
I couldn't seem to flash my wimax keys, but having looked around if you're using CWM to flash it won't do radios. Supposedly gotta use amon recovery.
Did you check if you had wimax prior to flashing a ROM?

If any is there could you answer me this if possible.
There seems to be WiMAX connectivity issues when flashing a custom ROM. Were there any problems prior to flashing ie. after turning s-off and rooting the phone? I'd like to try overclocking my phone, but I don't wanna lose my WiMAX access. Any advice would be great. Cheers.

B4 u flash anything, just make a backup of your wimax partition, NOT just the keys. Then if anything gets borked, you will be safe. Once the keys are gone, they are not recoverable except if you have a backup partition. Just Google search backing up the ENTIRE partition.

I rooted once before and backed up the WiMAX partition like you say. However I couldn't get a connection which seemed to be a common issue with those rooting the Japanese version of the evo, as most roms use sprints' base whereas here we have au which uses a different software version and whatnot. Did you manage to flash without any problems to your WiMAX here in Japan?

So it's Android 2.1? I'm surprised. You should be able to root it if you downgrade to 1.21.405.2. If it has an SLCD screen it'll be tough though as you'll lose the screen for a while.
edit: Not a good idea after all.

Yea its 2.1 and SLCD Screen. I didnt know if it was safe to try anything since it uses a different radio hardware.

It will brick you trust me, don't try a GSM RUU
The current radios might not support it then. You might be out of luck.
What is the radio version at the moment?
Flashing a GSM (EDIT: ) HBOOT and/or radio on a CDMA phone (and vice-versa) is a big no-no.
MAYBE you can use a 2.1 LCD Android on your phone, it might not brick it but I don't guarantee it'll work.

I'm positive the current radios do not support it, being cdma and all. Downgrading with the ruu you suggested sure will turn his screen black..... for good.
However, there may be other ways. We do have some CDMA RUU's

I am guessing using some incredible software probley wont work, but its prob a little closer then a gsm desire. lease the incredible is cdma.
I don't think you'll have any luck with an RUU that supports your hardware, as it's most likely going to have a lower software number and so won't flash. It looks like your release has fixed whatever exploit unrevoked3 uses, or it has a different model number and is being rejected because of that.

Anyone know of any other places that might be working on something for a cdma desire?
this is the only reason I dont like being with a smaller carrier. Awesome service, but no developers.
Well, we, European and Asian users don't have a Cdma Desire, so the only way is to wait an US user to unroot it.

You could try the Unrevoked method.
I would try these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7563237&postcount=1

[Q] Help Needed... Why is the Evo so hard to Root?

After having looked at the EVO threads for the last 3 days, I cannot figure out how to root my friends Evo. I have an Epic 4G and have previously worked upon the Incredible and HTC Hero. I have never had any issues rooting and or installing CWM or custom ROMs. I am beginning to think the Evo is a POS but I know that not to be true. Maybe I am just becoming frustrated with trying numerous methods including xHausx’s auto root method and having nothing work. Currently SetCPU is working with root rights but no other application that needs root rights including ROM manager will work. I can’t even install Clockwork Mod let alone find the correct thread so that I can install it. Next, there are no backups for this phone and my friend never backed up his RSA or Wimax keys. Basically, here is where the phones stands as of now… can anyone tell step by step of how to get back to stock 2.2 aka Froyo with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G working?

Not sure what you've been reading, but I had no problems rooting following this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
It is more involved than any of the 'auto' methods, but you also learn a great deal along the way.
What have you tried and what issues have you run into?
At this point, it may be a good idea to run RUU to bring it back to 100% stock before trying the method above.
what happened when you tried unrevoked or did you try that method?
From my understanding CWM sucks (sorry koush). Get Amon-Ra for recovery.
Can't think of a witty tag line. . . Swyped from my Warm Evo.
It's not that hard if you know what you're doing. The fact that it still has S-On means it's not rooted.
Before you root this phone update all the radios first. Go to Menu > Settings > System Updates and update the Profile, PRL, and HTC Software. From there read the following articles before you attempt to root again and possibly brick your friend's phone.

I am trying to get my facts straight but I can tell you 1 click easy root on Evo did not work on my friends Evo and so the name is somewhat misleading. On the Epic4G, 1 click root works on every Epic. That is the big difference but I thank you for your reply.

2.10.0001 radio is non-downgradeable on new hardware models.
Your phone has the new block size that is not compatible with the old radios and the remote not allowed error is because you are not using the eng hboot. Unfortunately it is not compatible as is either.
You can force it to downgrade and I believe I found a way to make it work with the new block sizes, but it's never been tested.
Ill test it. Got an extra new block size

Right on, all you need to do is downgrade to the eng hboot from the hboot and before rebooting or doing anything set 'fastboot -n 4096'
That *should* let you use the eng hboot. You still won't be unable to downgrade your radio though, although afterward it may let you flash the old radios without so much as a warning.
Ok will do. Hboot usb or fastboot usb?
Tryed this but i still get six short vibrates when flashing the radio

fastboot USB, as I previously said you will probably never be able to downgrade the radio. Sorry but that's just how it is.
Are you able to at least use your phone with the .76 hboot?
its weird.. there should be a way!!

Instead of downgrading so far back, have you tried downgrading the baseband from 2.15.00.11.19 to 2.15.00.09.01? If not, give it a try. You can download it and all of the other EVO radios from the link below:

Would I need to downgrade my radio? And does that stock ROM already come prepackaged with a kernel. I'm pretty sure the kernel needs to be downgraded for it to be compatible. When I got my EVO in Sept, I was already on 2.2. Never tried 2.1 but have always been curious to try it and see how much worse it is. Then I could say I've finally tried all three versions of Android on my phone and how far we have progressed
As you've stated, the problem would not necessarily be the rom itself not working with the new radios, but whether or not the default kernel would work properly. Give it a shot. The worst that *should* happen is bootlooping. At that point, you can either reboot into recovery and flash a different kernel or downgrade the radio, PRI and NV. Of course, this is my opinion. You can download the rom from here . By the way, according to the descriptions on the shipped roms, the radios appear to be included.

just read that i can't downgrade my radio because i'm running the 2.10 HBOOT and on HW003. but if downgrading the radio is not necessarily important to run a rooted 2.1 rom then i don't have much to worry about do i? also, those links you posted: i can flash those RUU's in recovery like i would any other rom? i don't want to go back to stock and be unrooted.
i was thinking of running the 1.32.651.1 rooted rom from Flipzmode, and if need to - download the appropirate kernel link next to it on the detailed ROM wiki thread maintained by Toast.
You cannot downgrade your HBOOT from 2.10 (not necessarily accurate) without a risk of problems, however, you can downgrade the baseband, PRI and NV. I've done it several times. I've downgrade from baseband 11.19 to 09.01. As well as upgrade to 04.08. I've also downgraded my PRI from 1.90 to 1.77 all while having HBOOT 2.10.

i've downgraded my PRI because of the wakelock issues.
so you can downgrade the baseband to a certain extent? only within the 2.15 radios? but you cant downgrade to the radios that were on Eclair? if i can run 2.1 roms on 2.15 radios then by all means i'm going to try it out. thanks for the info doug

[Q] Stuck in limbo, need help!

I have posted several stuff about a situation I am having with my phone.... and I still cannot get it solved fully. I hope I can do it here.
I will try and summarize the situation with some key points.
First here is my current info....
Android Version 2.2.1
Baseband Version 2.15.00.03.04
Kernel Version [email protected]#2
Build Number 1.05.970.1 CL339957 release keys
Software number 1.05.970.1
PRI version 2.11_01c
PRL version 01001
Model Number PC36100
Supersonic DVT1 Ship S-ON
HBOOT-6.17.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_20aa
RADIO-2.15.00.03.04
Now I first rooted using revolutionary and got s-off properly.... I played with some roms and found it fun but not enough time to keep at it..... so I decided to s-on and go back to stock using un-revoked. That semi worked.... I got s-on.... but never lost the root. I still have recovery and everything still shows I have root except s-on.
Additionally, I tried to run the stock kddi ruu and i have gotten every error from 140, 170, 171 and even at one time 130...lol still no luck there. In doing all of that I figured out that the image version on my phone is 4.24.651.1 and I need to get to 1.05.970.1 (the stock kddi evo 4g) but cannot get it done.
Also I am HBOOT-6.17.0001 which is confusing in itself. xhausx helped me by giving me a nanadroid version of my kddi rom but that doesn't allow me to update anything and finding updates here is impossible unless I am running stock without root.
I am not sure if I need to flash a new misc partition, wipe my nand or something else and so not know how to do all of that..... can someone please please please help? I am willing to toss a small reward your way if we get me back to when I bought it.
I think you need to run the RUU for your phone; get it back to out of the box, stock, and just start over.

if you have another RUU that I do not know about please let me know... because the one that I have from kddi is not working.
my current one is.... RUU_SuperSonic_K_KDDI_JP_1.05.970.1_Radio_2.15.00.03.04_NV_2.11_release_176711_signed.exe
You have a Japanese Evo, right?
Since it's a different phone, most of the people here will not be able to help you. I could tell you what to do if you had a American Evo, but it would probably either error out or further your problem.
Is there a forum for your specific version? Do things generally work the same as our Evos... like can you use the same RUU that I would use?

I was thinking if this will work somthing I might do if everything fails? Maybe you could try rooting it again and unroot?

The fact that I have a Japanese evo doesn't mean that anyone will not be able to help me. This is actually the place where the developers made the first RUU for the Japanese evo to begin with. There are plenty of pro's here.... we just need to find the right solution for me. Additionally, most everything works the same.... I cannot use the same RUU as you because the cid will come up different and cause me more probs.

I have tried to run the root process again and it says in revolutionary that you already have s-off..... which in fact I do not.... and when I do the opposite process it just acts like its running the s-on and does nothing.

Thank you for your help! I apologize if this has been covered already and I just haven't found it yet on my searches. Using Sprint. Austin, TX.
nope not with what you have. sorry you will need a pc to root your phone.
Is there anyway to "downgrade" so that I can?
well actually there is but you will still need a computer. there has not been a one click method for a really long time. but you will need a computer, there is no way around it. sorry.
Alright. Well thank you for clearing that up for me. Is there anything else that I can do to make this thing run more efficiently? I do have my msl number. Thanks again.
Like Ocnbrze stated you'll need a PC to go about it, just follow the instructions detailed HERE and you should be on the green
Older mac laptop?
The only computer that I have is an older mac laptop that I use a little for simple things. Typing a paper, check email, facebook, surf web, etc. The only option I see anywhere is for windows PC. Thank you guys for all your help! I appreciate it.
I was in your boat. Had no computer back when I rooted (fortunately, fastRX8 made a tutorial how to do it without a computer at all, and I'm forever grateful), but that was Eclair and before revolutionary or even unrevoked bacame necessary.
That said, it seems like Captain Throwbacks thread on mikmik forum about downgrading would work for you (from the bit that I've read), so don't completely give up hope. Earlier post linked to a thread, which I believe also has a link to Captains thread at mikmik.
I'll look for more direct link, gimme a minute.

Also, if there's anyone here who is probably most experienced to help, it would, without doubt, be Captain_Throwback, in case you might wanna PM him.
Good luck.
Edit: link doesn't look live. If you quote it, it should go live.

Might want to check the correct forum for that particular device. This forum is for the HTC EVO 4G. If your device doesn't have a dedicated forum, there is a generic Android forum where you can post. Link to that forum is below.

same question only wondering can it be done for HTC EVO 4g android version 4.1.1
If not what is the best tool on windows to do it all unlock s off and root I heard it was unrefined ...
Then I heard it wasn't that it was simpleroot but there was so many others.....I'd like to root without pc since I borrow my neighbors but if nor I don't have hours to spend on one
Damn! Is this devices still in existence? If I remember correctly to be able to s-off and unlock bootloader, you have to do those two things on the computer. Then again, it's been a long time since I have had this device. Ahhhh... memories... I loved both HTC Evo phones that I owned. Sorry I don't have a little bit better of an answer for you though.
