I sure hope we see a big Nokia WP7 reveal next Tuesday.

I ready to have my socks blown off! We need some fast, powerful, beautiful phones for WP7. I'm sick of seeing nice hardware with a crappy OS. See Android.
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Looking forward to next Tuesday. Unless they really drop the ball, Nokia will be my next Windows Phone this Christmas .

I'm not too concerned about powerful - but I do want it to use the new hardware, as it will be more battery efficient.

I just hope they dont do something stupid and reveal a meego device which I think there is a chance of them doing as Stephen Elop has said they will only announce a handset when its close to launch, and June seems to be a way off from Mango's Fall release.

An N8 quality phone with WP7 Mango running on it would blow my socks off. Or the concept phone with all the different colours would too.
Anything else less would merely them down, not blow them off.

I'm skeptical because "market disrupting" is what they have always called their non-Windows Phone research efforts. I have my doubts that we will see a Windows Phone on Tuesday, but we'll see.

I hope it isn't a smartphone priced $0 on contract . . . because it's not like we haven't see enough of those.

If its the size of the hd7 but with a good screen, I'm in.

I'm sure it wont be CDMA.....because Verizon sucks.

sure haven't said:

just need a "candy bar" like HD7 with good screen , i am too... even i am having HD7 right now.

What I worry about is....
1)is it a meego handset?
2)the price of nokia wp7 handset. They have been losing market share for years, and they seldom or never adopt a Qualcomm or TI processor in their own handset....what they are using is processor from broadcom....
Therefore,do they got enough negoatiating power or bargaining power to get a lower price of processor from Qualcomm(bulk purchasing??who knows?this depends on how nokia judge the potential of wp7) and this same goes to the other parts as well...
Lets wait for next week and see the real show...

Market disruptive :
$99 no contract WP7 device
New meego device that is also cost effective.
Only things that could be market disruptive from Nokia.

what is needed big time i mean HUGEly big time with these wp7 devices is a memory card slot that users can swap around freely without cracking the damn device open.
give me a +1 someone
ps. i love the the htc hd7 so much i have 2..... just coz

while a $100 phone would be neat, it wouldn't be disruptive. make it an IPHONE for $100, without a contract and yea, you'd have a hard time selling -anything- else. apple could do it, take a loss on the initial unit and make it up on all the payments from att/verizon/tmo that have to be made in order for them to get an iphone to offer.
oh wait... that almost sounds possible. hmm
an android or wp7 phone for a hundred clams would just be another phone. blah.

I hope Nokia does come through with something spec heavy, just to convince these other manufactures to get the ball rolling.
Sent from my Samsung Focus

I hope we see a metal crafted/high quality phone as their first device. They can bring out low end devices later.

Great. What a stupid move, making a fuss over 1 device after saying WP7 is going to be their main smartphone OS. Why dangle this in front of people at all and distract them from their eventual WP7 devices? Guess Elop was all talk....

I think wm is dead, let's get android! or is it just me

just returned my iphone, its like a pretty blonde; hot on the outside but nothing on the inside. i think wm is pretty much dead though; android will usher in a new era. i think we should just dismiss the last gen roms and look forward. Its obvious from apple releasing sdks for their tight ass phone that android has a little more than something up their sleeve; cant wait to see what htc devices deliver
Yep, it's just you.
I beg to differ, if you put WM in the hands of a decent development house you could come up with a very nice looking device

Looks Great, probably going to be $399 at least. The film (Commercial) is pretty stupid, doesn't show any features of the phone, just a bunch of paper airplanes.
Anyone know a release date on this baby?

See its specification, if the price is as rumors around 700$ the Xperia X1 will be a killer of all other WM devices. I wonder why HTC doesn´t have any revolution model up coming. I prefer the high resolution display and small smart design.
Like to see this one when it comes out.

I believe the expected release date for the xperia 1 is early 2009
I phoned the Sony Shop in the UK they said mid year.
excellent, I'm due a new phone bout then!
Windows mobile will die if microsoft doesn't quit being lazy
Windows mobile will die. Have you guys ever really thought about this operating system we're running on our hand helds. back inthe day you had desktops pushing 166mhz and running full installs of windows 95 and in some cases I've even seen 98 on that processor. And those system ran applicatiosn and did so with not much problems.
in 2008 many years in the future we have our handsets pushing 400mhz processors (hermes) and yet it lags when you chcange screen orientation. It lags to answer a phone call if your in landscape orientation.
That is utter rubbish. Microsoft got windows mobile code wrong the firstst ime it was bloated. The reason why it'll never improve exponentially is because microsoft does not like to do things over they will forever build up ontop of a bloated operating system.
We see the same thing happening in the desktop counteer part of their operating system. If android can drop a proper user interface to make users comfortable with using the device Then i see no reason why it wouldn't superceed windows mobile
hardware vendors would be more than happy if this was the case as licensing for windows mobile cost an arm and a leg.
but really think about it
166mhz ran a whole computers operating system with various application 400mhz can barely run the windows mobile operating system properly.
Thats just disgusting.
WM is already changing due to other operators including Apple, and they need to as people expect reliable, functional operating systems.
Yes I agree, microsoft are lazy, but with the introduction of android, apple etc, I think (hope) they are actually starting to sit up and take action.
If they come back with another unreliable WM then, people will start to look elsewhere and microsoft will be in trouble. Lets just hope they take note and sort it out now

Windows Mobile 7

Hey Guys and Girls,
Just wanted to know if ANYONE has ANY REAL screen shots of WM7 yet.
I am very amazed that Microsoft have kept thier cards close to thier chest !
I hope that this new OS is something radical, if not....I'm going to Andriod and bye bye Microsoft !

Yeah, I've been waiting too. luckily, the MWC is starting Monday of next week. I've all ready decided to Android, and it will take a lot for WM 7 to impress me enough to stay with microsoft.
Whats pissing me off even more is that while Android and to some extent iPhone OS are getting massive updates, WM is still behind in the dust and they're taking FOREVER to launch something.
I've all ready decided to switch to the Xperia X10 when it comes out in the states.
Guess we will no more soon, but it better be over impressive to get our attention!

From what I've gathered Microsoft are just trying to emulate Apple instead of being inventive and trying to do something better. Disappointing to be honest. Again Microsoft show why they are falling behind as they have no imagination and just copy existing technology instead of trying to invent things themselves!!
looks a bit too dumbed down for my tastes.

I won a WP7 phone!!!

Sadly, I won't get it til general availablity and I don't know which phone. Microsoft peeps are still being cagey with it. The guy wouldn't even let me take a pic of a LG WP7 device even though it's been all over the internet already. The only real new info I've gleaned is that they will support basic exchange policies like pin unlock and remote wipe. Still going to try and fenagle some more info out of them.
WTH? Congratulations!!
cool can i have it?
Congrats!.........
Depending on what they say, I might just get a HD2. The WP7 device is supposed to be general availability and they might make devices available before then and I'm not willing to wait.
niceeee
thats lucky and awesome!
Remember to colaborate with XDA and help WP7 become more awesome .

After having seen it in person, the whole OS is rather impressive. While it may not on paper be the #1 phone OS, it is rather good and will put up a good fight. Oh and they've only shown off around 70% of the OS's features. More positive info will come to light as we near launch.

I think I've always been relatively positive about the new OS. While some of the new restrictions are annoyingly restrictive, I don't think it'll be a problem for us. In one of the sessions today they showed off how devs will be able to unlock phones and it was just a desktop app that talks to the store. I can easily see this app being modified to just not talk to the store but I'm betting there will need to be more done than this. So while I still wish MS would open up the dev platform more, I somewhat respect the decisions they've made and I don't think it will be hard for the rest of us to have phones we can do as we wish with.
It was stated earlier in the week by one of the members of the WP7 team that only 70-80% of the OS had been shown off up to this point. However, after going hands on with a device for a while today, I didn't find much that we haven't seen yet. The whole thing is fluid and is super intuitive. It really is a joy to use. So I'm not sure how much is left to unveil but it seems rather useable today. But none of the WP7 guys that I talked to are using it full time yet so that's kind of telling.
nice... congrats... HD2 is still better looking then any of the WP7 phones we've seen... the only one that beats it is the prototype images of HD3 made in photoshop lol... dell lightening comes close, but hw keyboard kills it as well... just get the HD2, then u'll have to option of running 6.5 or android (90% possible so far) and prolly even wp7 when it comes out since it conforms to all specs ...
Pics or it didn't happen!
Jeeze. Necro thread!
I ended up deciding to wait for a WP7 device. The HD2 they had was a european model and couldn't do 3G here. A smartphone without 3G is useless. So I wait til October like everyone else. But at least it will be free.

Not all the specs, AFAIK the chipsets in the HD2 do not conform to all the hardware specs that Microsoft has made for Windows Phone 7 compatibility. Things like the hardware image scaler for example are not present in the HD2, nor is support for hardware acceleration of the VC-1 codec.

Stephen Elop, in his financial and strategy briefing continuing Nokia's marathon Capital Markets Day, just posed an interesting rhetorical question: will Nokia be able to "customize everything" on Windows Phone 7 in order to differentiate itself? "Yes!" was Elop's ebullient proclamation, though he quickly pulled it back to say that Nokia likely won't make extensive use of this freedom to tailor Microsoft's OS. Instead, the company will be cautious and seek to maintain compatibility rather than pushing the boat out too far in tweaking the underlying software. That's a major shift for Microsoft, who forbade HTC from skinning Windows Phone 7 with Sense, something the Taiwanese company would surely have loved to do, and limited it to the introduction of a self-contained Hub. Now Nokia's saying it -- perhaps exclusively -- has been given the liberty to play around inside WP7 to its heart's content. We'll see how important that turns out to be whenever Nokia delivers its first device bearing its new smartphone OS. An insider tip tells us the current plan is to introduce such a handset by the end of 2011, potentially based on current hardware. Who's ready for Xbox Live on a future version of the N8?

A few more edges would be fine...I don't like this rounded design.
But, if these will have free Ovi Maps Navigation and those ultra clear black AMOLED-screen, I'd definitely go for them!
Hopefully they don't change a whole lot other than maybe apps. We've seen how multiple UIs has affected the fragmentation and performance of Android. If it's properly executed, and we have the option to use the standard Metro UI, I'm up for it, and as long as it doesn't hog the CPU performance any different than current devices, I'm up for possibly purchasing it. The reason why WP7, at least to me, is so appealing is because it runs so fluid and has a "togetherness" feel to it. All of the apps, the menus, etc all have the same design to them while not detracting from variety of apps.

Look what we've found! This is the first image you'll see anywhere of the early fruit of Microsoft and Nokia's budding new partnership. We have it on good authority that the technicolor phones on show are conceptual devices produced by the two companies. You shouldn't, therefore, go jumping to conclusions about retail hardware just yet, but hearts should be warmed by the familiarity of Nokia's new design -- the shape of these handsets is somewhere between its recent N8 and C7 Symbian devices and there is, as usual for Nokia, a choice of sprightly colors. The trio of keys adorning the new concept's bottom give away its Windows Phone 7 ties, but also remind us that the N8 and E7 are highly unlikely to receive any WP7 upgrade love. The best part about this whole discovery, however, might be that it confirms Steve Ballmer's assertion that the engineers of both companies have "spent a lot of time on this already."

Saw these on engadget this morning, badass looking phones

Gorgeous. Lets hope they will produce them as we see them.
The problem is how long will it take Microkia to make it to market. They will be in trouble if they cannot make it before this holiday.
Gotta say... I think I see the phones of the future...
black one looking gr8....
Now I like this quite a bit, but it kinda looks like my Focus...
That was my thought. This looks almost like a Samsung Focus. At least the front of top are very close. The rear is tapered which I do like a little more.
Hopefully, we'll be seeing even more designs from Nokia (hardware keyboard hint, hint).
Hey guys, guess what, the concepts hav just been officialy shown at MWC by nokia...they r real, n possibly coming this year itself...
Nokia hints we'll see first Windows Phone 7 device this year!!!
Nokia may still sticking to the official line that it will begin shipping Windows Phone 7 devices in "significant volume" in 2012, but it just dropped a big hint at its Mobile World Congress press conference that we could be seeing the first device even sooner -- like this year. That word came from Nokia's Jo Harlow, who said that her boss would be "much happier" if the timing of the initial launch was in 2011. As you can see above, Nokia's also kindly confirmed that leaked Windows Phone 7 concept that we just got our hands on Friday, and it's shed yet more light on the behind the scenes intrigue that led up to the switch to Windows Phone 7. According to Stephen Elop, the "final decision" to go with Windows Phone "just happened on Thursday night of last week." Elop then later then expanded -- in response to a question audience about whether he was a trojan horse -- that the "entire management team" was involved in the process, and that "of course the board of directors of Nokia are the only ones that can make this significant of a decision about Nokia," which they made on Thursday night.

I read this article in the main Windows Phone 7 section and I have to say it is exciting news.
Not only are Nokia providing their expert knowledge in hardware which will only make WP7 better to use but they will also be combining Ovi Stores with Windows Market Place. This means the famous Ovi Maps with voice guidance and the ability to download maps to SD card for offline useage will be available as well as other applications which were bought out on Symbian.
Nokia has also divided the company now into two businesses. One for mobile phone development and the other for smart phones such as WP7, Symbian and Meego. Some people are saying this is because Nokia fear a takeover from Microsoft but it certainly looks like Nokia are taking no chances.
