[MOD] CirclesMod - CM7, SolarFlare, Villain, Cognition, Lite'ning, TK - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

I rather like the SGSII stock look, so I've added my icons including battery percentage and made the notification drawer background semi-transparent, nothing else. Looks like this...
Green icons on Cognition 777 r2 and VillainROM 3.0

If you want a build for a particular ROM or stock firmware, you need to get me the unmodified /system/app/SystemUI.apk and /system/framework/framework-res.apk files. I see no obvious way of unpacking the factoryfs.img without flashing it to my own device.
Therefore, repeated "please please please make one for XXKF[x] will be ignored after a certain point.
If you read the original post (this), you know what to do
October 7th 2011: Ok, so listen up. One of my relatives has died and I'm prioritizing to be there for my family as much as at all possible. As much as my Android endeavors enrich me (intellectually and socially, not financially), they are of course less vital than family and work.
Therefore I am on a designing and coding semi-hiatus for the foreseeable future. Basically I'm modding whatever I happen to use myself on my own devices. The UOT Kitchen has my icons on file and fully supports both odexed and deodexed ROMs with or without touchwiz, and everything I can do they can do better.
I hope you understand.

Finally! Nice work
I was waiting for a transparent notification background since I was unable to make it myself. Apparently you don't even need to edit the services.jar anymore? So if I want to copy over the transparent background to my own framework-res.apk which files should I copy? Thanks in advance!

Transparency is already enabled in stock, so if your png is semi-transparent, there you go. I just made the stock background about 85% transparent in photoshop. The notification background is included in both ...
/system/app/SystemUI.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/status_bar_background.png
and
/system/framework/framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi/status_bar_background.png
... and to be honest, I didn't bother tracking which is used and how - both apks are a bit of a mess, actually

Hi, could you make a version without transparency for KE2 please?
Actually are the icons just in SystemUI.apk and the framework-res.apk is for the transparency effect? Or is the batt icon in framework-res too?

Looks great in the screenshots. Sorry for the newbie question, but is it possible to have this if my phone is not rooted and there is no CWM installed?

You definitely need root at least, although you can copy across the files using root explorer (or something similar) instead of using CWM.. don't forget to mount as RW and set permissions afterwards if you do

Hey Hooolm glad to see you got the S2. Could I make a request for the VillainROM 1.3 I used to use your mod on my desire
Cheers

@Hooolm
Nice to see you here in the S2 section....

Can you add the CRT MOD as wel to this one?

@Hooolm ....nice to see you here ....I used your icons on my SGS 1 when they were packed into the rover's theme
God I wish someone would make these in blue ....or red ...
The best icons around ...just wish we could have more colours ...

Please could you tell me what modify for the transparency ?

really nice looking!
this however completely screwed up my phone...
I have KF1 Thunderbolt 1.0 from Angelom with Go Launcher.
phone became unresponsive, statusbar disappeared and everything "moved" up about the space of the missing statusbar.

it would be nice if the ring around the batt percentage changed to yellow at 30% and orange at 15%
just a suggestion =)

hi, i have some force close and bootloop if i flash your mod...
i am in Villainrom 1.2 and cf-4.0 kernel

Yeah I'm getting errors along with the guys above.
I'm on TK rom 0.2 and when I flash this circle mod my notifications bar completely disappears, holding power button doesn't show the options (airplane mode, power off etc etc). Phone is on KF1. After a min, the phone just reboots. Don't know what's wrong.

does it work vite litening rom 1.4?
did anybody try to use this with litening rom 1.4?
how do you install it? recovey, install from zip?

Hi everybody.
Just wanted to give a few quick comments.
First of all, I'll try to answer / address your questions and requests Monday. I try to not take neither work nor "work" home to my family, as I've observed that both worlds function better that way
The files I uploaded are for the stock, odexed rom versions. If you flash odexed framework resources over a deodexed Rom, or vice versa, bad things will happen.
As a general rule, I can build for any Rom, as long as I get /app/SystemUI.apk and /framework/framework-res.apk from that Rom.
As for coloring, I'll just point out that the UOT Kitchen has all my icons on file as source, meaning you can customize the colors completely. The kitchen also supports odexed stock Roms.
Cheers

[REQ] Darky 9.1 Theme for Doc ROM

I just installed Doc 9.1.4 ROM and love it to death, but i just hate the themes. I really liked darky theme. I was able to find the theme he used in 8.0 but that is a little dated now so wondering if anyone has 8.1 or above?
PS i would also like a copy of the stock JS3 Theme if anyone has that so i can always go stock if i need to.
I like the dark Gingerbread theme too. Here's a simple one I created. No fancy stuff like 4 lockscreens etc.
For JS3 only. Backup attached in case bad things happen
can you post some screenshots of that theme? The main thing i like to change is the notification bar and the notification pull down menu with the 5 options and have a better settings menu. Well having the 4 default lockscreen and maybe a modded epic lock screen, but other then that i'm happy with all the stock stuff like dialer, clock and calculator.
That's mainly why i don't like most of the themes they change way to much.
Currently Darky 8.0 is fine for me except when you pull down the notification bar i just hate the icons for data, gps, wifi etc. Is there just a simple way to change just those icons?
You can give this a try since themes are stored on the framework folder so try to copy everything from his folder and put it on an update.zip template and flash it via CWM, it should work.
yeah i know, but i got the phone prefect now and would rather see screenshots then to apply a theme and possibly be forced to flash again. I got everything setup the way i want it except for the theme.
Make a nandroid with cwm before flashing then
In cwm go select backup all in backup/restore which will make a complete copy of your current setup, then if anything goes wrong just "restore all"

Why would you need screenshots, I thought you already installed 9.x from darky and you like this theme.
Made one based on Generation X V2.0G.

Extract.
Copy on your SD Card.
Install the version you want (Normal or Circular battery) via CWM.
Isn't it just the R64 theme with green colour instead of blue?
Yes, i just took it as base.

Its the original Darky Theme + some stock Gingerbread icons.
~100 mb because its 2 Themes (Circular battery and normal battery).
I'm using Doc's + GingerMix v4, it's like Darky's theme.
Now I've asked a circular battery icon to the creator of GingerMix, so... waiting for answer!

EDIT:
I tried this one and it looks pretty good, I just had to change the animations back to stock. Gonna download darky's v9.1 and check if its the same..
I just dont like how he changed the icons for contacts, phone, camera and ect
100% Darky 9.1
Sorry but thats makes a "real" Gingerbread look.
dam i want to avoid custom icons i guess i stick with darky 8.0 for now. Is there just a simple way to change the 5 icons in the pull down bar? Thats really all i want to change with the 8.0 version, like his 8.1 version had better almost clear icons which i liked..
I already modded the actual notification bar but can figure out how to change the icon set for just the 5 icons when on or off.

Here are the green icons I modded, used in Darky's 9.1
I guess you're familiar with apk editing? Just copy these icons into twframework-res.apk.
This is the safest way as you won't run into incompatibility problems (e.g. funny string descriptions etc)
And here's a screenshot of my mod for Doc's JS3 (see link on 2nd post). Darky's 9.1 seems to use a different framework-res.apk as some strings became swapped when installed, so this is not compatible with 9.1 yet.

I just compiled this and didn't have time to check it on my phone. So who ever wants to be brave can test it out first. It wont bootloop your phone or anything, but still.
Anyways make sure you make a backup before doing this. I didn't make a flashable zip for this so just do this using root explorer:
1. Go to /system/apps
2. Copy Systemui.apk and paste it on your sd card as systemui.apk.backup
3. Put the new systemui.apk on your sd card.
4. Copy the new systemui.apk to /system/apps
5. Press okay to overwrite the old one
6. reboot phone
Also make sure you mount r/w using root explorer before you paste or it won't allow you to.
Probably worth mentioning this is for deodexed ROMs only.
idk about that. Works fine for my phone and its odexed.
but this is for stock roms, as mine is stock. idk about custom roms.
Really? I'm new to things, so I'm genuinely curious, how were you able to make the change? I thought if you're odexed you have to deodex > decompile > make changes > recompile > odex in order to mod stuff.
If you're only changing xmls are you able to skip steps? You still have to decompile and recompile to regenerate resources.arsc, right?
Sorry, just learning where I can.

yea I wasn't sure about it either, but I just went and grabbed systemui from my phone, decompiled it, edited status_bar.xml, added images to hdpi folder, and recompiled it. Then used root explorer to replace the original systemui.
And ya you have to delete the original resources.arsc when recompiling. I'm learning as well and was asked to share this so I did. I'm not 100% sure if it will work for others but technically it should if it worked for me.
That's great to know. I've been deodexing and odexing every time I changed something. Now I only have to do it when actual code changes are involved. You just cut my work in half lol.
yea i think you only need to deodex when you modify the actual jar files.
I tried this mod but after adb push it my status bar was gone swipe down and nothing, tried root explorer and the same thing, I had to push back the original one.
I'm using this by the way, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1282415
By the way I just read this:
I just compiled this and didn't have time to check it on my phone. So who ever wants to be brave can test it out first. It wont bootloop your phone or anything, but still. at 9:42 PM
Then in an other post few minutes later:

If anyone that wants to change the logo to something else, follow the tutorial link in the original post. all you will have to do is decompile it and replace the logo with something else in hdpi folder and then recompile.

What is the process to just add this to a theme? I dont want my status bar to change from the theme I am using. I just want the clock in the middle. Anyone wanna let me know what the process is to do this by myself rather than using OPs SystemUI file.
Im running starburst rom v1.5
will all the status bar mods be lost if push this system ui? My noob thoughts are yes but not sure.

Yo,
Is it possible to change the default dock ICS icons ? I don't want to use a launcher or a complete theme just for that. The design of ICS is nice but the icons are ugly...
How can I change that icon even by overriding the Android core code ?
My SGS is rooted as well.
Thanks !

You'll have to change the icons in the APK's. What I do, is just insert the icons into the APK using 7zip on WinRAR (don't unpack the APK ).
Another way is with APK Manager. A good tutorial is available in that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701

So i tried modding the ics-themed statusbar postet in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432062
I just wanted to get it a little more like the samsung stock theme (but darker). Strange thing is, that replacing the icons + appearence of the whole bar and slider destroyed the apk's somehow. My galaxy s+ can't get them working.
Even if i install the ics bar normal via cwm and overwrite the files later with the edited ones...
With the stock systemui and framework from broodrom i managed to do this easily. Just handling the apk as zip files, inserting my new icons.
Where did i go wrong?
I already edited all the images... all work done. Just getting it working is troubling
I edited the original broodrom apks are modified to look like this and just wanted to do the same with the extended statusbar:
Try to delete the old SystemUI and then flash the new one. You are not the only one with this problem, there was someone in the ICS-theme-thread and I think this helped for him.

[MOD] Center Clock and Transparent Status Bar for CM7 Kang

Hi all. This mod will give you a transparent status bar with clock in center (see screenshots)
ONLY FOR CM7
Please flash the zips according to the build you're on. Also don't forget to backup framework-res.apk and system-ui.apk just in case.
How to apply:
* Place the statusbar-patch and statusbar-undo files on the root of your sdcard.
* Reboot into CWM and flash statusbar-patch.zip and reboot.
* When the phone boots up your status bar would have disappeared. Don't panic, reboot into CWM again and flash the undo.zip and reboot.
* You'll get the status bar back but without the mod.
* Now reboot into CWM again and flash the patch.zip again and reboot.
* Voila!! You've just made your status bar transparent with the clock in center

Are you using ADW? If yes, disable "wallpaper hack" from adw settings. Also you need to have a theme that supports transparency., it just wouldn't work on any theme. Try miui, lunarUI or meizu themes

There's one problem though. During installation of market apps, the text overlaps the clock and it looks pretty ugly.
I have tested your mod and its good, just the bug with the overlaping with the clock and the clock is white even if it is themed. So can you make just the transparent mod?, i'm interested just by it.
Thanks

Yo,
It is possible to have (semi-) transparent statusbar on pretty much any theme (default cm7 ones or others) with just a few steps. Although, it depends which launcher you use; I know that it works with ADW [with Wallpaper Hack unchecked] and with GO Launcher [with ~'use High Quality Pictures' option].
If interested, you can go read my 2nd post on this thread. It look awefully long and complicated, but believe me the whole process takes me less than 4-5 minutes now; so give it a shot; you might learn a thing or two in the process...
Cheers.
p.s: I got here looking for recent cm7 nightly builds thread for my gf's blade...still looking...anyone could share a link or two on this. Thx.
Thanks a lot bro..tried it and it worked first time.....thanks again

Thank you AL, your method works with my FTL launcher very well. Only I had to additionally change transparency of those four .png files (with paint.net I set to 128 instead of standard 255). Now I have status bar transparent!

Np!
I'm glad that it helped you and thanks for reporting that it works with FTL Launcher. I updated the post and mentioned it there [with a mention to you ].
...since you're a new user on xda: welcome here and don't forget to try the "Thanks" button sometimes hehehe [I feel guilty asking for thanks...]
Cheers!
this does not work anymore with burgerz 19feb build when you select usb connection to pc it gives an error and statusbar disappears
Error: SystemUI stopped working unexpectedly
Sorry Rapier07: I don't want to highjack your thread here but I truly believe that you should bring some changes to the OP and here's why:
I do not believe that those patches (or mods like you've called them) will work on each and every cm7 builds.
To my knowledge, those 'mods' were most likely created from a tool like this one from ZduneX25 --> and that in turns, requires the CM7 build's specific SystemUI.apk and Framework-res.apk. So any change to either of those two files would render the patches useless.
Different CM7 releases, nightly builds or Kangs are most likely to have some changes to the two files mentioned above. So unless you clearly state in the OP which exact rom those patches have been designed for or tested on, you really should point people to the tool, the UOT Kitchen or even the 'manual' method of editing the systemUI.apk that I've mentioned here a few posts back instead. Otherwise, this thread will soon become a mess of horror stories...
- just like this one -which I will go and refer to this exact post next...
Cheers.

It looks so good!
@Al
I'm aware about whatever you said there. The zips i posted works for all kang variations before 19th feb. I will keep on updating this as the builds progress. Just couldn't get a hold of the latest build as my Laptop broke.
Also i can point people to the tools as you said but just have a look around the forum and see how many people are struggling to get it working.
will be waiting for the new versions mate

OK, I'm not trying to argue here but I'd just like to ask you a honnest question so bare with me please...
You're saying that your mod should work on every cm7 rom made before Feb19th including builds from burgerz, sej, burstlam and any other kangs?
The fact that it no longer work since that date; isn't that the proof that the two files I mentioned changed and that they most likely were different in the past??
Anyway, fine if it works and that I'm mistaken but I think it was a fair warning. I'll be glad to be proven wrong.
Cheers.
Hehe. No arguments and proving wrong brother i'll update the OP about builds i know it works on

[MOD][FARIA ROM] Battery Icon with 1% Increments

This MOD is based on faria's 4.1.2-Jelly-bean ROM V5 but SHOULD work on previous versions of his ROM.
All this does is replace the battery icon with a stock style battery icon in blue, it also shows 5% increments to battery power.
Before with Stock (already modified in blue)

With MOD:
Installation:
Make a backup of System/app/SystemUI.apk (just incase!)
Download attached file and copy to your SD card
Using a Root File Manager, copy the SystemUI.apk to /System (NOT /System/app)
Set permissions:
Then move SystemUI.apk to /system/app and overwrite current file.
Reboot.
Also, I have tweaked a few other icons: Acquiring GPS and Signal strength, these are NOT modified from what is included in farias rom, just tidied up and sharpened.
I am looking at developing this more with other icon styles etc..
Let me know if it works, and Thanks are appreciated
As always, not my fault if you screw up your phone. Always use caution when modifying system files and make sure you know what you're doing!
Here is PieBatt, just seeing what I can put together.
Attached is Blue for Faria Rom:
Tested on V5 of faria.
Installation instructions in first post.
Percentage with numbers (1-100) 1% increments:

I am happy to try and implement this into other roms if people provide me with SystemUI.apk, framework-res.apk and twframework-res.apk....as long as your happy to be a guinea pig as you would receive a new UNTESTED SystemUI.apk.
I have also included the mod for Stock Roms (Green Battery, grey notification bar), I haven't been able to test this! You have been told, so I'm not responsible if your phone gets messed up...it SHOULD work though!!! You need to be Rooted!!

Hi!
Can you please replace the icon with the percentage numbers? So, you save space in the status bar and you know immediately the remaining percentage battery.
Many thanks!

SystemUI.apk without battery icon
Hi!
I was thinking if it is possible to create a SystemUI.apk without the battery icon. In this way, using the samsung option (show percentage in setting menu), is possible to have in the status bar only the percentage of the battery (with big number!) and the problem I found is solved!
What do you think?
Many thanks for your kind help!
1% increments for Faria Blue works well. I use it V5.1 rom. Thanks dude!!!
excelent work.
1% increments for Faria Blue works well with I8190XXAMA1_I8190OXAAMA1_4.1.2_rooted V2 by infected_. Thanks.
