USB car charger from Walmart - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Accessories

Can the GT 10.1 plug into any USB car charger?
I was looking at this from Walmart's website
If so, it'll be a lot cheaper than the car charger Samsung is selling

I've noticed that plugging into various USB wall chargers won't work. The only one that will work is the one that came with the tab. I am pretty sure this is because the Samsung one is a 2amp charger and all of my others are less than 1amp, 850mah specifically. If you can find a 2amp car charger then it should work fine. Otherwise, the charging indicator will show that it's connected to a charger but will have a red x on in it meaning that it's not charging or can't charge. I suppose anything too low can't charge the battery fast enough to make up for the battery drain

i bought a $10 2 port charger from amazon for the ipad/galaxy tab 7". it works fine for both tablets and the gt10.1.

I bought this one from deal extreme. Its less than $3.95 with free shipping. Comes with 2 usb ports. I have been charging my iPad and Dell Streak tablet without any problem. Yes it does charge 2 devices at same time. Its also small, doesn't get hot, doesn't make any noise and looks good. Highly recommended.

it's. still charging. you can get a trickle charge even from standard USB. s3ms that this is one of the only tegra2 tablets that can.
I heard that the trnaformer can but mine doesn't. it should work if I had USB.3.0.

So if l'm using it to watch videos and music while on wifi, do you think that it'll maintain its charge while trickle charging?

I bought a couple of these adapters;
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330565218553&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123
Now I can charge my Galaxy Tab 10.1v off ANY USB port - very very handy. Works just very well from a PC USB port too.

i don't think the amount coming in will equal the amount discharged. depends on the brightness of the screen and how much cpu you're using. mine was charging veeeerrry slowly while reading the steps to root and the screen on, other than that it was idle and still slowly charged.

I also bought this. Arrived in 3 weeks from China, but free shipping, or $0.01.
They seem very good. There is some hard to read text (even in English) on the plastic part that tells you the top port is for iPad (2.1A) and the bottom is for others (1A). I've put a photo below of the guts. Seems it's definitely more than just some cheap resistors and a fuse.
I tried it in my vehicle and you still get the red X with a OEM cable with the device powered on, but NOT if you use an adapter plug found on eBay.
Do yourself a favor and order 3-4 of each. =)

Nope - you need a 2A charger, but any old 2A charger won't do. Most are designed for the iPad, which uses resistive voltage dividers in the charger to signal the presence of a dumb charger. Specifically the iPad looks for 2.0 volts on one of the data pins and 2.8 on the other.
The Tab expects D+ and D- to be shorted together and somewhere around 1.2-1.24 volts.
It IS possible to make iPad chargers (confirmed on Scosche reVIVE II) work as follows:
Bridge D+ and D- with a solder blob.
Remove the resistor that was the upper part of the 2.8v voltage divider (i.e. between the data pin and +5v).
At this point the charger should output around 1.2 volts on D+ and D-.

The USB spec states 500ma is the max you can push over the USB interface (I think USB 3 is higher though). Most electronics will tend to honor this 500ma limit. I'm not sure if it's just common practice or an actual standard, but shorting the 2 data pins together ignifies that you are connected to an AC charger that can supply a higher amperage. By default our phones & the original SGS phones will charge at 500ma max. However if you plug in a charger with the 2 data pins shorted (our OEM chargers are like this), or short them together yourself along with a capable charger, your phone will charge at 700 or 750ma (forget which offhand).

resistor value
Do you mean a resistor with 0.1ohms not 0.1A? What resistance did you use for this setup? Very interesting and helpful information! Although, I'm very curious why a different cable would give you different power numbers. Does the charger measure resistance on the cable and then lower the maximum charge current as a result? I can't really see any other way the charger could tell which cable you are using unless the charger adds some capacitance between wires or some other discrete component.
I use the charger supplied with the Amazon Kindle Fire. That charger charges my phone really fast. I think a little faster than the stock Samsung one
Very cool. Anyway you could get your hands on an Nexus charger?
Wouldnt it be better to slow charge it like a car battery? If you trickle charge a car the battery lasts way longer than on a high amp charge. This seems to work on my extended battery I ditched the 1amp for a 700MAh and charge lasted 4 days with almost 7 hours screen time

yup. a slower charge is better for your battery than a fast charge. (based on what i've been reading on with battery tech)

Car Charger

Hi guys, anyone could recommend a good car charger for this HTC One. I am running an app called Autoguard which records my trip. I manually activate car mode and this app but I realised my current car charger is not able to charge the phone quick enough despite a 2A rating with BT and this app running. It drains about 10% on a half hour journey! I have also did a little mod on my USB cable to short pin 2 & 3 but don't seems to work. I also read about charging modes (AC or USB) which the latter charged slowing whereas AC gives the full charging potential. I confirmed my current charger charged in USB mode. Any thoughts?
Seems like nobody has this problem!
I personally use the Motorola Rapid rate charger from Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000S5Q9CA/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1367933488&sr=8-2&pi=SL75
It works for me and does a great job.. I've had it for quite some time. My Galaxy Nexus on Verizon while using LTE was using more output than input while I was charging with a no name charger before so I decided to give this a shot and it worked. It charged and the percentage went up instead of trickling slowly with the no name charger..
I used it now with my H1 and it charges pretty quickly

But what would make the difference between charging the One ore not while navigating?
I have a mini charger with an output of 1A, but still the phone in draining while navigating. Could this be the same issue as with the Galaxy S2, that it depends on the usb pin layout whether the phone charges with 500mA or 1A? And if so, isn't there a usb cable which already has the correct pin layout to charge to phone with 1A?

The One doesn't seem to change charging rates based on the USB pin layout-- I have several chargers and cables with shorted data cables and none of them seem to charge the device at higher than 500ma. It's definitely the phone itself that's not drawing more. I think that, either via software or hardware, the phone is checking the wattage available and if it is below 5Vdc/2A, it only draws 500ma. I just ordered a DC adapter that claims to be rated at 5Vdc/2A, and it should be delivered tomorrow.
Well in my car the charger is a 2.1A charger so that should not be the problem.
Not shure what the voltage output is.
I shortened the middle pins, but indeed, without succes.
Where did you order your charger? Can you let me know if it's working? If the phone sees it as a AC charger?
edit:

This is the one I ordered:
Kinivo CX420 Two Port USB Car charger - for all smartphones and tablets (4.2 Amp / 20W)
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B009TBF7IG/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8
If this one doesn't work, I'm just going to permanently mount a 150W inverter and start using AC adapters. All of the 2.1a adapters show as charging via AC, but it still tops out at 500ma.
edit: i've been posting all over these forums with the same stuff... here's a link to whatever thread I just responded to with the most current information: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=41797839&postcount=6
I doubt if that will work. The output of the AC charger is only 1A and 5V, so there is something else why the phone thinks it's on an AC or USB charger. Still haven't found out what though
I just took apart an AC charger, and guess what, the two middle pins are shortened:
So what else tells the phone it's on an AC charger or USB charger???

I really think it's just down to output wattage, and nothing more. I have plenty of chargers with the middle pins shorted, and even though the phone says it's charging on AC, it only draws 500ma. That charger I linked my last post has been actually charging my phone while it's in use, pretty nearly 100% of the time. It does dip from time to time, but I've noticed that the AC adapter does too.
Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I've seen some conflicting posts. Should I be getting a 2a car charger? I'm not sure what my current one is rated at as I haven't checked, but today in car mode and with bluetooth connected it was draining instead of charging and I'd like to fix that. I need a 2 usb port charger and I know most of those are not actually 2a per port, any suggestions? Is 2a what I need?
Thanks,
Tim

I havent tested it properly yet, but the connector seems to be the same as the Galaxy S2 (the phone I still use ^^) so I assume the charging cables will work for the Note as well.
I only mention it as they may be available cheap in places, because the S2 is an old product.

Any generic MicroUSB charger that can supply 2A of current will work fine. The voltage range will be close enough, and won't harm the device. Even an older charger with a lower current output will work, but will take longer to charge.
I have multiple chargers of different brands, and all work just fine with this tablet. SO glad Samsung switched to MicroUSB instead of that ridiculous 30pin the last version had.

The same thing occurs when you plug it into a computer's USB port, which typically supply 500mA, so I'm guessing your charger supplies around that amount of current. Was it one of those wall chargers with multiple USB ports?
I've tried an iPad charger and a Rocketfish 2.4 amp 5v generic tablet charger and neither was recognized by the note nor would it charge from it. So far only ~1 amp chargers work for mine aside from the samsung one that came with the tablet. Very disappointing. I was under the impression that in general for electronics voltage needs to be roughly as needed but amperage can vary as the device will pull the amp amount it needs. Maybe I'm wrong.

That is exactly how it is supposed to work. As long as the voltage is with device tolerance, it will only pull as many Amps as it can handle.
I also have iPad and Rocketfish chargers, and they both charge my Note 10.1 (2014) just fine. I wonder if there is some kind of hardware defect with your MicroUSB port? Maybe try a different cable?

I tried a different cable and it worked. The cable I had been trying was the samsung one included in the box. Weird. Anyways, thanks!
Maybe the Note is compatible with Apple chargers. My wall charger was only advertised as Apple compatible, and i was glad that it charges my mobile at 900mA, but that was already an established standard back then. But it also charges my Note at 2A, probably the Note reads the id voltages on the data lines, Apple style.

Every charge problem I have ever had has been the cable. Any micro-USB charger should work, but they don't all charge at the same rate. I would imagine my blackberry charger taking 2 days to fully charge the Note 10.
9I Posted this on another thread. I'm charging 2 notes currently. One charging with the 5.3v and the other a 5.0v using the USB cables that came with the note. So only difference is the adapter. Can you tell which is using which charger? They've been charging for 45 minutes when I took this picture. I don't see why you would need a 5.3v tbh.

This is true. The stock or Motorola ones seem to work the best. I've used some eBay ones and they limit the charging amps even though I'm using a 2.0amp adapter. I've learned this a while back so I only order oem cables if I need extra.

This is the one I bought a few months ago, no problems ... yet
This is the one that I have been using for over a year around the world (I travel frequently for work), and have never had an issue.
Can actually support 4 simultaneous devices, and I've tested it at one point with a Galaxy S4, iPhone 5, Galaxy Note 10.1, and iPad all plugged in at once and charged all of them at the same time.
It's got dedicated ports for a ipad, samsung tablet (presumably a little more juice on these two ports), and two "universal" ports that work for most phones (I current use it with my Galaxy Tab2 and Nexus 5) so you should have no issues with both Nexuses.
Also, the size isn't too bad at all, so very portable. The only complaint -- if you can call it that -- is that the blue led is super bright. Nothing that can't be fixed with a piece of black electrical tape

Thanks for the suggestions!
I tried charging my N5 with my LG G Pad charger and the phone got really warm. Is this OK? That was at 1.7A...
I got the Limefuel dual port 4.8A/24W dual port charger and it's hooked up to two Qi chargers to charge 2 Nexus 5's and I can say these Qi chargers have never charged this quickly before. One Qi charger is the 3-coil type (which is already awesome) and even charging while using the phone it charges mad fast.
I also got the Anker 5-port 8A/40W charger which I am still testing.

I second that recommendation. I have 2 Limefuel L48WC chargers. Both ports output full amperage to my Nexus family of devices. The flip prongs help with travel. As with many chargers, it has a light, but could easily be muted by a strip of tape.

I bought this one from a local store for $12 + tax, works great. The only thing it doesn't charge are some of the newer BB's but it has no problem with charging an ipad, n7, and n4 at the same time

I got this one a couple of months ago:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ATZJ5YS/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Sure it's a little bulky, but it'll also give space for regular plugs, charges my and my wife's phones quickly, no problems.
If anyones looking for a nice-looking "short" dual 2.1A usb car charger, this one is really nice.

It's expensive on Amazon, so just ebay "SCOSCHE BLACK USB Car Charger" and you can find it for $10. works great.
Bolse® 4.2Amp 20W High Output Turbo Charge Dual USB Port Wall Charger
Similar to the LimeFuel charger mentioned in other posts, I got this one. Works well.
And YES it does work for Androids -- read the user reviews.

Good Wireless Charger?

Has anyone found a good, reliable wireless charger for their G7 yet? (My cheap $15 charging stand isn't cutting it and I'm about to whip it against the wall).
I've been using this one by Anker, charging it overnight. Takes about 2 hours to fully charge from about 30% to 100%
No issues with it yet but only have had it about 2 weeks now.

Thanks! I have about 4 older Samsung charging pucks. What's strange is that two work fine, but the other two don't charge my G7 at all. (I'm sure it has something to do with the USB cable and/or plug that I'm using).

Bear in mind that you have to use the supplied cable, along with your o.e. charger for the Anker stand. The port on the back of the stand is a micro usb, not a usb-c.
I've been using one like this one for years no issues and good brand..
I have the older model but I see this one with same specs

G7 will say fast charging on a 10W wireless charger but LG says the phone supports 15W for true fast charging. Belkin and a handful of others make true 15W fast wireless chargers.
Watch out for off brands as many will say 15w but are actually 10w.
Im using a mophie here and it says fast wireless charging at 10w.

Good call on this charger. I picked it up on your recommendation after seeing the price before I even owned this phone and I can confirm it works great. Anker makes solid products so the price makes it even better. Thanks!
Another vote for the Anker Charger
I've been using the Anker model A2523 wireless charger with no problems. It doesn't charge super fast, but I use it for overnight charging, so that's not a problem. While charging, the battery never goes above 30 degrees centigrade, which is 2 to 4 degrees cooler that when I was using the original LG plug in charger that came with the phone! The Anker uses a Micro USB port for power, so I also got a USB-C to Micro USB adapter, so that if I need to recharge quickly, I can just unplug the LG charging cable from the adapter which is plugged into the back of the Anker charger and plug it into the phone. I think that's the best solution until more USB-C wireless chargers are produced.

No, it just states it's charging wirelessly. It's not too fast but perfect for overnight without roasting the phone or battery.
just got the UMIDIGI Q1 , and it says fast wireless charging.
Have some others scattered around the house that is 5w, like choetech t513
I have quite a few Anker products, so when I was looking for a bedside wireless charger, I was almost sure I would end up with them. However, after researching on Amazon for about an hour, I ended up buying the Yootech Wireless Charger (the goofy company name made me think that it might be a cheap rebrand, but it's been a rock solid device). I can say for the LG G7 that this is an amazing charger (although it supports a wide range if you or someone else might want to use it with a different device; especially an older one) that comes with an impressive AC adapter (it doesn't get warm while in use, something that sometimes happens with more compact adapters). It does use MicroUSB instead of USB-C and maxes out at 10W instead of 15W, however it tops up my phone from 20 - 30% to 100% in less than two hours so it's a keeper for me and allows me to save my included charger specifically for travel.
I got the BlitzWolf BW-FWC4 from Amazon for €15. Fast wireless charging thanks to QI-EPP compatibility. Works flawlessly through my Voia case. Charges almost as fast as wired. I'm using the original wall charger to power it.
got the nillkin 15w qi powerflash. Fast charging works and cooler than UMIDIGI Q1 thanks to buil in fan.

Hey, what are the charging speeds on the Nillkin? Does it charge as fast as the UMIDIGI ? Their description does not mention fast charging for LG so was wondering.
