S-Off Achieved for Inc2 - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

The developers over at alpharevx have achieved S-Off for our device. I volunteered (eagerly) to be a guinea pig. I can confirm that it works!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEva63LEJyQ
Be sure to donate to them. They have worked extremely hard to get s-off on the newest generation HTC devices.
I'm sure that support for the inc2 will be added to their lineup in a few days.

I've been wanting to join their community and offer help with my engineering expertise but I haven't had time :S (stupid job) I just might have to donate to them instead.

This is pretty awesome. I look forward to seeing what Roms come out before I jump the gun. My phone acted weird under temproot so I want to hold off until there are devs working on ROMS and can address issues. I can't wait to see some Sense3.0 things get ported over or full blown 3.0

This is great news!

I'd be more than happy to jump the gun, be a guinea pig, lab rat, etc if they need another test subject.
PMs welcome ;D

That is awsome. I don't really post on here, but I have been eagerly reading and checking every day. Waiting for a root. Im so excited! I love the phone already, it will be even more incredible with the root. How simple is the root process? Did you have any troubles, or instant root? I read some people had to repeat steps a few times to get it.

I don't know if this is relevant to the topic but, how long do you think before we get custom roms? As great as Sense is, I like the 'standard' android look better at times :/
EDIT: Can I volunteer to be a Guinea pig?

+1 I would like to be a guinea pig too

Great, but how.

It's irrelevant to be a guinea pig as of now considering there is no custom recovery, let alone roms, I've owned multiple Android phones and this is the first one i will attempt to make a rom with(i did themes back in the day for the MyTouch). I will research starting tomorrow on what to do etc (already have fedora set up on my laptop).

That is true, but hopefully they add the S-OFF function for the Inc2 to their lineup soon, so Devs can start a root, roms and etc.

Awesome news after sitting in an hours worth of LA rush hour traffic

We have a custom recovery that is being tested, and check the the dev section. Our first flash-able kernel is now available.

Just an off topic question, after rooting, I have heard that there are apps that basically give you tethering without paying the $20 (or how ever much it is) to do it "officially", can someone tell me if that's true or not? Thanks.

is it public for S-OFF software for download??

Root for froyo 2.2 problems

I know i know
this is a very touchy topic so i wanna take a different approach,,,lets say that devs are working hard on a root for 2.2 stock for all of us that are stuck ....why not let this thread be the new discussion for what is happening with root and why it is not happening yet ..like what devs are running into as far as problems go and what not...i am not a dev but i have been roming since the droid and hero an moment have come out ...why dont we help the devs as much as possible and all work together to achieve this common goal and not fight about it all day ...cause in the end we all just want root and everyone will shut up and start enjoying what their evo is really capable of ...thank you devs for all the hard work and such ..lets get this thing cracked asap...
Ps ...please would a dev who is working on this step up and give a status of what exactly is happening and if they need help...
There was no need to create a new thread for this...though I could understand tour frustration if I was in your shoes...
Sorry sir... you have wait like everyone else whoa stuck on the latest OTA.

Yes! I would love to have a real time transcript of all the devs' thoughts.
That would be fantastic.
Somehow I doubt that they would be jumping in here to update us, civilians, about their progress
Not to be the bad apple, but speaking realistically. When the Evo had 2.1, the Dev made comments all the time about that process and so on, and what to look for. This is different. No one is commenting at all. In fact, they are probable reading all these threads, looking at everyone's comment, calling each other and laughing. Why would they risk root, to help us?.. I'm just living and accepting the fact to live with the Official 2.2. Bottom line is, if they, the developers, were working on a exploit. What harm would it do to let the public know.. I'm not mad at the Dev. For 1, they're not getting paid an hourly rate to do this for the majority of people who will just download there hack without donating.. 2, they are already rooted. IT would be a different story if all the dev weren't rooted, and wanted total control over their phone. Then this would push them to find a way... And i mean thats just the way the world works. So you can't knock them for not finding a way... It is what it is... Just realisticly speaking
this process is killing me.....i miss hacking my nexus one, this evo 2.2 is a iphone that i cant fix up and customize...this sucks!!
I think the developers are busy on their ROMs. This seems to be more for the hackers. My question is: who are the hackers that have broken the ROMs in the past?

Think about it. If you were a dev with a rooted EVO, would you unroot and install 2.2 OTA and lose root, just so you could see if you could crack the 2.2 OTA?
God bless one of them if that's what they decided to do, but I wouldn't do that if I was in their shoes.

No. And like I stated in my first message, the developers are busy writing ROMs.
you dont need to unroot your phone to start trying to crack 2.2, unless im mistaken you can run the 2.2 image the sdk emulator and work on it that way. its how those who are writing roms probably test out their changes.

That may be true, but at some point the only way to be sure that the crack works is to test it on an EVO that has 2.2 either as purchased, or OTA updated. My point is that after anyone has put a ton of time and effort into getting something working just the way they want it to, there isn't much incentive to go and screw it up just to make someone else happy.

and as a developer/hacker (i dont do phones so i cant comment on status here) the incentive is the fact you did it. trust, thats a very good feeling.
i understand its easy for everyone whos rooted to say, be patient, but thats all that can be currently offered.

My reading comprehension is adequate, thank you. My expectations are reasonable as well.
Rooting is a luxury not something that has to be offered up to the public. Up until recently it wasnt even considered completly legal. So for everyone here including myself for that matter that disregarded the warnings and took the update(also for the people who got their phones with 2.2 stock, thats just the way it goes.) Wait patiently, the devs dont owe you periodic updates on what they are doing with their free time. And enjoy your android phones, and if you wanna customize your phone, there are ways from the market you could do so with widgets and replacement launchers that can make your phone look original without rooting.
Agreed! Well said.

MrDSL beat me to it...LOL!!!
Posting a suggestion like that is not going to accomplish your goal (organizing a root effort) or help get 2.2 rooted any sooner.
You became the owner of this thread when you hit the "post new thread" button, you have the OP to do with as you wish. This thread isn't going to just start filling with reports of what people have tried. If you want this thread to serve as a "status-of 2.2" thread then find out what people have tried, try some methods yourself. Post the results of your searching and rooting attempts.
If this thread does become a place where people can come and see the current status of the rooting effort it will be because you keep the OP current.
I'm rooted, and I don't know enough to help blaze this trail. I know what a few people have tried and I know what methods some think are promising but I would like to see a breakdown, similar to THIS THREAD.. well, I WAS gonna link a 2.1 Root-Effort thread that was in the Hero forum before Regaw released his guide. I tried a half dozen searches (my search-fu is not weak) and all I found were a few rooting guides and a BILLION "ROOT???" threads...
Anyway, the guy had all of the methods that he had tried and others had submitted listed in detail along with the outcome of each attempt.
Also, I imagine a list like this would help cut down on the redundant threads.
The sticky thread is already hosting a discussion about this. Some of the Unrevoked team is even there.
If someone wants to help me pay for one (haha) I'll get in on it!

[REQUEST] PSFreedom EVO 4G

PSFreedom enables homebrew on PS3, called jailbreak.
I would like to see a port of PSFreedom to EVO, DocMon/Kakaroto managed to get the PSFreedom working on the Desire/Nexus One, both use the same usb of the EVO, but I don't have the knowledge to get it working on the Evo.

I tried, evo freeze on htc white boot screen. BTW running CM6.
Damn. I was going to give it a try but I guess I will wait. They were saying that ROM needs to be Sense Free in order to work. I have Fresh right now. Maybe I will flash a NonSense ROM and try.
How did you run the boot.img? Do you need to have an unlocked bootloader for this as in S-OFF or is using the eng hboot the same thing.
I run it using the fastboot method first, then flashing the signed zip, no luck with any of them. If you use the fastboot method you don't loose anything but if you flash it, you have to flash the rom again.
Also hoping for this. Seems that it may only work with CM6 since vanilla Android is needed.
I haven't followed the entire thread but I would assume the kernel changes could be implemented in a.Sense kernel. When I get time ill try to do it.
Ok thanks a lot. I mainly use CM6, so a vanilla requirement wouldn't be a problem. I just saw it mentioned in the other thread that it wasn't possible with the Desire Sense.
Anyone try cm6 with the n1 ko file yet

Yes, it needs to be compiled against an Evo kernel. DrMon has been working with another guy on IRC on it but they have run into problems with it. They need someone experienced with Evo kernels to help out.

[Q] ...How Do I root it?

Maybe I'm blind, but I'm searching all over the dev forum for the incredible 2, there are no official links that explain how to root the phone. Please help, thank you.
I would think that if have been searching you would have read that there is no way to do a software root. You probably would have also read that you can buy an XTC clip to achieve S=Off.
Is this just temporary or will there be a way to software s-off? I'm sorry I have been searching and reading I just don't understand I'm a noob the original incredible was easy to do cause I used unrevoked
Again, if you had been reading, you might have come across a thread that discusses the software method of S=Off.
link me please?
to answer your question... no there is no software unlock yet. It is coming, it has been verified to work and has been done to a few testers.
there is no ETA.
if you need it now, buy an xtc clip and you can unlock it immediately.
lastly, this should be in general, not development.
thanks brah

There is life beyond the message board, you might want to have a look.
I understand that this is a matter of semantics, but the I2 was rooted long ago...with software. What we're lacking is an unlock to allow root to be permanent (persistent through reboots). You can root now and gain many of the benefits (and problems) of root if you really want to without paying a dime.
Now if you want to use custom firmwares, that requires unlocking. This can be done with a piece of hardware that is available now, or a piece of software that everyone is still waiting on.

I have done some searching and have found two possible routes. One is AlpharevX (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132920&page=40) and the other is with the Rebel XTC (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1156534&page=5).
The sites are http://alpharev.nl/x/beta/, and http://www.xtcclip.com/.
AlphaRev is still beta though they claim no bricks reported so far. Since it is Beta you are supposed to interactively get a Beta key from their site to activate the software. This key is generated only if it 'likes' the serial number. The latter by the looks of it is a hardware tool which loads on your sd-card. If you go the alpha route then you must manually download and install the viow version of CWM! Still waiting for Unrevoked!

Pre-rooted MM rom?

With the update being out for like a week now I'm wondering why there hasn't been any new ROMs based on the 6.01 marshmallow. I would even be happy for just a stock rom with root, no fancy mods added. Is there an issue with rooting the MM update? I desperately need wifi calling !
Sent from my SM-N920F using Tapatalk
Come on man. Don't be that guy.
The update released on Thursday or Friday at noon last week. It hasn't even been a business week nevermind a full week at this point. The raw files were made available pretty much right away so it's fair game for anyone who absolutely needs the rom and is willing to put some time in.
It's summer. People do this for free and have lives.
If you absolutely need to flash something the Mm ports and Cm have been available for weeks and months. It's also been reported that you can rollback from the New update so you could always go stock if it's imperative and flash back when appropriate.
Otherwise, hsbadr has uploaded the files and seems to have slots for future work in his formatting. So hold tight. Good things come to those who wait or who take the initiative.

I wasn't meaning any disrespect to you in any way. I am sure I am not alone on this, but in the OP it does sound impatient. In essence to the main question as to why there aren't any MM ROM's out yet, the only real, yet short answer is "time".
Again, I am not meaning any disrespect to you. It's just when someone asks a question, I tend to be honest and strait forward.
Color me cynical but...
I've read two or three threads regarding the Marshmallow OTA and I find it amusing as to how many people are losing their minds over it. It's not happening fast enough for the unrooted crowd, most likely because Verizon doesn't want their servers swamped. The people who are rooted are willing to risk bricking their devices or not being able to regain root because... I don't know why. Is there something so earth shattering in the OTA that isn't already available in a custom ROM?
And now there's a new group who wonders why developers haven't produced a custom ROM based on an OTA that's not even a week old. I could never be a developer for this sort of group. The level of ungrateful is simply breathtaking. I've been on XDA for about six years as a consumer. I can well remember when asking for ETAs was considered rude.
From what I've been able to observe, most of the good developers are driven first and foremost by challenges. Yeah, there could be money involved... enough to maybe buy a couple of six packs of beer. They're also driven by their reputations. Most wouldn't dream of foisting a half-assed ROM on people. It's far more productive for them to issue a product that is fairly polished and then be able to spend their time developing new and improved features rather than having to fix broke ****. And while some developers do live in the basement and live only to make ROMs, most have wives, kids, jobs and interests outside of ROM development.
Here's how I see it: you can be patient and wait for the developers to do their thing and be rewarded with a near OEM experience, or you can forge off into the unknown. The entertaining part of watching the trailblazers is that most of them shouldn't be flashing custom ROMs with complete instructions because they're not willing to expend the effort to learn just what it is that they're doing. Then, when they've ****ed their phones up, they don't ask for help, they demand it.
One more point: The Note 4 is over 18 months old. That is ancient in the consumer electronics world, even while the hardware is still highly competitive against the newest phones. Many developers have moved on to greener fields. There's a smaller base of community for ideas to be bounced around. Things won't move quite as fast.

I do agree with all of what you are saying. That being said.. I of course am on root and the reason at least for me wanting a custom ROM is wifi calling .. I need this feature as I have crap signal in my home and office. I'm just not willing to let go of root for it . I am happy to wait for some experienced dev to make a rom with 6.01 that is pre-rooted so I can have my cake and eat it too.. lol

It's people like you guys that make us make mistakes because were afraid to ask...

1. Anyone who replied DID "answer" his question.
2. Some people are too thin skinned and can't seem to handle someone being honest and strait forward.
3. It's really very silly to blame others for "your own" mistakes. It's not our fault if someone can't or doesn't follow directions. It's people like us that actually help this community. A users "Thanks Meter" doesn't get higher on it's own.

I am guessing by your reply that you do have wifi at you home?
If so have you thought about or maybe try and see if Google Hangouts may be an option for you for the time being?
