really hope this helps you!

Why'd you make a new thread just for that? xD

What's this for?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

I made it because he suggested it. and I'm not exactly sure on what it does, but it was an attempt to help him fix his phone

The PIT file is needed with Odin when you are going to re-partition the phone's internal memory. I'm trying to get something working that requires re-partitioning to go back to anything stock, so it may be useful in the future.

Let me know if you need any testing done on this project. My continuum is a play/backup phone now and would love to test something

Yes they will because securities are off. Check out the development threads and download the stock (e.sprint) image zip. Youll need the PC36.IMG and stock unrooted rom. There is a helpful guide that will help you as well. Good luck!
Probably depends on whose checking it. How would they find out? Do they plug it in to something and it tells them?
Perfect thanks. I have the s-on tool and the ruu zip. Hopefully goes smooth

well if nothing else they could just boot into recovery and see for themselves
Really they just make sure phone turns on and that's it. They are sending it out to be refurbished and reload software.... but unrooting should not take so long

Windows Odin 3.07

First off I apologize if this is posted already but I searched and didn't see it. I ran across this on google yesterday when I was messing with my phone. It is the latest version of Odin for Windows. Not sure what the differences are other than some additional options, which I don't know if we can use yet So here it is if you want to try it out.

Thank you sir!

Well. I just odined the EL29 stock file and it didn't boot. Used the one click and odined it and all is well. Anyone else try returning to stock with this Odin and do it successfully?

I believe this is the Odin they use on the S3. I was looking for it actually. I will give it a try when I get home tonight

Have to watch this one. I asked about using this in a couple of threads a while back. All I heard was crickets. Probably stick with 1.85 anyway, if it ain't broke..
Ok I have been screwing around with it for about an hour and it does seem a little buggy. I was able to flash several .tar files but for some reason it had a little trouble with sfhub's el29 tar. When I tried to flash it I got the same thing you did. I flashed a different tar and it worked. Came back to his to test again and it worked. On a side note is there not an EL29 stock tar out? I can't find one that is a full stock tar that deletes data and everything?

I understand that. Unfortunately I am a habitual updater. I have to have the latest versions. Detrimental at times for sure but I can't help it
They must have changed something in how they use the underlying images in the tar file. Since 1.85 works fine, it isn't highest on the priority list to figure out what they changed right now.
There should be a link to the EL29 tar that was leaked from Samsung in 2nd or 3rd post of the EL29 ODIN thread, but I'm not sure if the end link is still active. It has been a while and megaupload and lots of file lockers got shutdown in between.
download for my PC reinstalled. thanks
A while back I tried the 3.04 version and it hung on a .tar too.
Had to use one of sfhub's One-Clicks to get my phone back.
So being very much in need of a working phone I just figured it's not ready for prime time and left it alone.
Maybe someone with more intimate knowledge can find some documentation as to it's underpinings and changes.
Thanks for the find. I may try this later when I'm feeling bored with a working phone. ;-P
ty for the find though; its much appreciated 8^)

People still losing their imei's?

Im going to root my phone tomorrow, but im curious if people are still losing imei's?
Any feedback is great. Thanks

You can just back it up before you root your phone, but I haven't seen anything posted last couple days.

You back it up before rooting? How would I go about doing this? Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Only thing I've really seen regarding the imei in the past few weeks are threads asking if its still a problem!
Imo, at this point its just not really worth worrying about.
It probably will happen again and probably will never really be solved, but we have the ability to backup and restore now and both cwm and twrp have since been updated.
Its just not as big an issue anymore as people seem to think.
Just how I see it anyway.
Don't let the imei bug ruin your fun!

use that. i think this is the standard for backing up your IMEI. i just rooted today after holding off because of this issue. i havn't flashed anything yet but i have gone through most of the major ROM forums and nothing pertaining to the search term "IMEI" has popped up in the past few days besides just asking about it. I am still a tiny bit apprehensive on flashing just because of the potential issues and the fact that this phone works pretty well on its own. things were so much easier in the MT4G days ha.
There's also a thread by peoplearmy that should be linked in geeks thread as well.
If you're to nervous about what could happen, you should probably just skip rooting altogether. Not trying to be rude, but all things dealing with root come with risk. The number of imei losses is really quite low when you think about how many people have rooted dozens of times with no issues.
Id bet there have been more bricked S3's due to flashing international roms than there have been imei problems.
Just thought id try to add a little perspective!
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Hey would you mind linking the people army thread? I feel like rooting usually comes with risk but that risk is generally user error and a inability to read instructions or use common sense. This imei issue however is scary because no matter how careful you are it could get lost. I have even read about people after losing their imei and restoring it still not getting 4g

I've seen a ton of guides including the k tool which won't work on our T-Mobile version? My backup was done automatically when I flashed something else so now I have an efs backup file I can't figure out what to do with. Thought it was a simple flash through odin but that isn't the case it seems, and the nv viewer keeps not opening. Thanks again.

Ok, every thing on the t-mobile sgs3 xda thread should work for our phone...so if you try anything else I guess that's your fault. Also nothing backs up when you flash it you have to make a back up with your recovery. Also if you read any of the stickied guids before you rooted you would have known odin had nothing to do with imei.. you can PM me for more help

Definitely something to think about. I've read that even tho you can backup your imei, some of those that has restored, began having problems with extremely slow data service.

OK....I understand what odin is I've been doing this stuff for a couple years so I also understand the importance of reading everything I can. I assumed since the efs file is a .tar file it was as simple as flashing it through odin. Again I will scour the site to find the right tools and procedure . I am looking at the correct file its an efs backup .tar.gz file? Thanks again and is there one specific link that is a proven working guide?

Teacher...

Okay I've been a little nervous to ask this in spite of the answers I may get, but I'm going to ask anyway. What exactly would I need to know to make my own ROM, tweaks, themes, hacks, and what not? I've taken 2 C++ courses although that was high school and 1 java course. I'm really interested in this, and if anyone who knows what there doing would take me under there wing to teach me. I thank anyone for any answer in advance.

Well if you want to get started I would say the easiest way would be to get an aio like mine here (There are others as well). Get your PC setup so you can decompile and compile apks and jars. Once you have that setup, I would start by looking around in the folders that it decompiles. This will help you learn where things are and how the apks work.
If you want to do theming you would need to know xml, how to edit images, and knowing java is always a plus.
Once you know where things are and feel comfortable editing apks, Then I would start learning the other stuff. ROM making, mod making, and tweaking will all get easier if you understand how the phone works.
Hope that helps get you started. Let me know if I can help you out with anything.
Shoot me questions if they pop up, can't always get back right away but I'll always try to help. Its been said before and sounds cliche, but read up. And I mean ALL over the net. The amount you learn troubleshooting your own problems as they arise(error messages etc) are invaluable and unfortunately can't be taught.
But for the other stuff, hit most of us up and you'll find help. Think I can speak for he majority of us on that one.

This is what I love about the xda community.... everyone so helpful I wish to build my own ROM someday too! I wanna take an android programming class but current college I'm attending doesn't offer it and I tried learning on my own but never could get android SDK or eclipse to install my old laptop.... gots me a way better Asus now and I always help with anything I know but that's simple stuff like making bootanimations, where stuff goes in the ROMs ( but I don't know how to make my own), I'm always experimenting with my build.prop and other tweaks til I soft brick and have to dirty flash my phone, I flash to different carriers, different prls, etc.... just simple stuff I'll gladly help. If asked I'll be a tester.... but I can't quit build my own rom

Google search will always be there for you when most needed
Ya googling only can take you so far. Not the same as an actual Mentor. If that were the case we wouldnt even have schools anymore we would just tell our kids. "Hey google it!" And educational systems would be pointless....
Thanks for all the advice! I really appreciate it, so when I do have questions I can't find the answers to I am happy to have people I can go to. Although I have to put off until I get my own laptop around Christmas... soo you won't be getting anything from me for a while lol
