warranty replacement Inc2 coming... - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I have been having major signal issues with my inc2 (leaked RUU installed) so I called and have a warranty replacement on the way
I am curious if anyone has gotten a warranty replacement in the last week, and WHICH software was installed on it? I am banking on 2.2 still being ont here so i can S-off the phone....please let me know if you know....
thanks!

It will b 2.3.3....I'm coming from a fascinate and my dinc2 will b here Friday....expecting 2.3.3

you think they have actually taken the time to take EVERY single refurb and update them instead of just NOT doing it and having the phone force the update upon activation?

That's the point of a refurb though, to be brand new so to speak. so it will 9/10 be updated software.

I got my fascinate to inc2 switch with a refurbished on wed last week and it came with 2.2. Just a fyi.

It is a mixed bag with refurbished versions. I currently have a little screen separation going on but I am dealing with it because I don't want to lose root or get stuck in Verizon refurbish hell.

If I get a new one from insurance would that still be 2.2 or will it be updated?

no one can say for sure.

Mines left yesterday, should be getting it Thursday or Friday, so i hope it still have 2.2. I too think it's a roll of the dice, because they would literally have to replace ALL the phones, it would be better to just let the user update it, but we will see.

This was an issue back when I had the Eris, and I needed a refurb, and the same thing, I tried asking before they sent it out and they said that it's most likely going to be sent with the updated software, if it a refurb..

I have to ask. I see so many people on here saying they got the DInc 2 from a Fascinate (Same thing I'm doing now) so I'm sure you are all familiar with the Fascinate. How come there isnt anything like the stock ODIN files that can be used on a Fascinate?

Because Samsung and HTC have totally different ways of debugging/developing and use different tools. The Eris is the same way, with S-OFF and all that jazz with the bootloader. IMO the Odin App made recovering from meltdowns and updating things like the radio VERY easy which was nice. But for some reason this simplicity also led to MORE bricks as all it took for a while to brick your phone was to hit the dreaded phone button instead of the "PDA" button in Odin...

I already miss Odin. It was so ridiculously easy to do anything with it. You didn't even need to root to flash a custom rom. Just Odin CWM, boot directly into it, and flash the rom. And very easy to go back to stock and not leave a trace of root. Unlike the current inability to go back to S-On...

I can only hope. I've used your ROM's, top notch. My Incredible's USB port just quit working today. Took it to VZW, and of course. Out of warranty. So I have to buy something else at full price. Lucky for me, my friend got an Incredible 2, brand new condition with a 32GB SD card. Said he'd sell it to me for $400. So I may be joining you guys over here soon .
Thank you so much!
Hopefully we can get a permanent root for Inc2 soon. I replaced my first Incredible with an Inc2, and I love this phone. Now all we need is root and some good roms

I'll probably still be here, until I can afford a replacement. Figures that the USB port would stop working (besides charging) just a week after the one year warranty expired. Which means I'm stuck being stock. I ran the RUU and S-ON to take it to Verizon for a replacement. Forgetting it was just out of warranty. And now I can't root, can't run Unrevoked. Sure, I can temp root with Z4root. But where's the fun in that? No ROM's etc. This sucks .
But, once I have the funds. I think I'll just jump here to the INC 2. The thunderbolt is HUGE, and there's no 4G here anyway. At least until the end of the year or 2012. By then I'll actually have an upgrade anyway. Hopefully we'll see a permanent root, either here or for the Incredible S.
So htc just bought a Dinc 2 and I'm itching to root it, I know there's a temp root for it, but since its been such as long ass time since I've rooted my Dinc OG, I forgot what to do. So I have three annoying questions, one: how do I temp root it and/or where can I find this info, two: is there an eta for a perm root and if so, anybody working on ROMS, and three, help lol

Yeah, its the same cord I was using. I've used different cords, different computers. Took it into VZW with their confirmed working ones. Didn't matter. Even hboot doesn't recognize it. Usually it would say "HBOOT USB PLUG". So, something hardware related. At least it charges. I'm considering just keeping it as is. Unfortunately I can't root now either. Permanently that is. So it'll just stay stock. At least we know we can expect Gingerbread for it OTA.

Every new or refurb EVO have 2.3.3?

Well, my girlfriends EVO has been randomly shutting off, vibrating 5 times, and then flashing the led once the screen is off. From my research, it looks like anyone who has encountered this issue has had to replace it. I'm going to try a few things to fix it, but if I'm unsuccessful and need to replace it... is it guaranteed that the new or refurb will be GB? Or do we still have a slight chance of getting Froyo? She's gonna be so pissed that I won't be able to root it lol. I am praying for froyo. Anyone have any insight?

i would guess sprint would have someway to roll official os back to whatever was previously available. If i were sprint i should as hell would want something like that.
its a thought to ask a sprint rep which i am not.
Yea I was afraid of that. I'm hoping I get really lucky, or that i have some luck bribing or convincing a tech to roll it back to froyo. I know they MUST have the ability to do that.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. If it were that doable for a tech, you'd have heard about it by now.
cant you just run the RUU from froyo, then root it? thas what I did. and I just took my Evo 3D back, and had my evo replaced last week and they gave me a refurbished fone with froyo on it, but that was at best buy...
Best buy still carries evos loaded with 2.2. Got two of em week ago. Tell the tech you want to power it on yourself, then cancel update.

There is no reasonable method to rollback to 2.2. RUU will not work. Update.zip will not work. PC36IMG.ZIP will not work. The only option at this time is a NAND pull.
WTF is nand pull??
Wow that sucks I finally got my evo to be looked at by the sprint store... I kinda just want a replacement, hopefully new, but I'll be pissed if it comes with GB. Well I'll find out if they fixed it or replaced it in about an hour so wish me luck!!
Ya I have an evo with a scratched up screen so Im debating just getting it done elsewhere since sprint wont do it now. I dont want to gamble with an insurance replacement.
I finally upgraded my fiance's crackberry to an Evo...so luckily she is still fascinated with it stock. But can't wait to root it!
Just got my replacement and yes it has 2.3 not likely that any replacement will have froyo sorry

no there is not....thats why i dont root till there is an unroot method
lol, nope. i looked and looked everywhere. could not find it anywhere on the net. my device was stuck in bootloop. after waiting for a while for stock rom to come out, and not seeing any advancement. i decided to purposely brick the device and go exchange it, worked like a charm.

Although I was thinking the same thing, that's a big gamble to take. Since some people is reporting that Sprint doesn't care if the phone is rooted or not, I'm gonna just go to the sprint store to see if i can just exchange mine even though it's rooted.

yup...they did...lol. They told me I had to return it to stock. Then went on to tell me that they're sure the issues I'm having in regards to losing data etc...is because sprint is updating their towers where I live...I thought this was bs.
But anyway, I left the store, turned on 4g to see if that service was available in my area yet...and boom...it connected.
So maybe he was telling the truth, because just a month ago there was no 4g at all here where I live.
But nevertheless, the stock tar/kernel should be posted today or within the next few days. Apparently bubby..is just about to release it

Well...i got mine about a couple months. They told me they could replace the phone only if phone has not been software or hardware modified..as i understand...only if they see phone is like when they gave it to u @ very first time. There is a way to restore ur phone and unroot it. So make sure u dowload the .tar file and keep it in PC in case u need to flash stock rom...via Odin before send phone to replace it....or any other similar situation. Follow the link at the bottom.
If u pay insurance Samsung will replace ur phone even if its stolen or lost. In that case u have to pay $150 in order to get a new one. Sorry about my english. ...just trying to help. Good luck.

Thing is,everything in writing,it seems nothing is covered.
I spoke with tmo,and the insurance, and they both said "no matter what happens (excluding rooting/roms) "
Is covered. But in writing, nothing they said seems to be covered.
From my understanding tmo will replace the phone if its less than a year. But tmo is in financial hardship so who knows what they will do.
Im still waiting on a $30 credit for stuff I never purchased.

But,Im just illiterate.

Samsung warranties their devices for 1 year, it has nothing to do with tmobile. Return your device to stock and get a new one if there is a problem. If it's hard bricked tmobile cant tell what you've done to it, anyways. They send it to sammy and they jtag it and it goes back into circulation as a refurb.

Yes, it's not illegal. But it does void your claim on the warranty, and if the rep was having a bad day, he could have easily turned you away for rooting.
What I have found is that although it is not " illegal " . It does not necessarily mean that you will not get a hard time about it. I have had very different experiences even in the same store. Both negative, and positive. So I've learned it's better to remove as many reasons for people to give you a hard time as possible.

I guess it's easier to complicate things and waste more of your time instead of taking an extra minute and running ODIN.
Well I don't think being rooted would have any affect on a cracked screen. However I would restore and unroot to be safe. Never know if some pissed of employee wants to take is anger out on you and flag something on your account. Or put notes that could hurt future insurance issues.

look, its best to stay on the safe side... make a nandroid backup and unroot your phone... its your best bet... it is easily the safest way to go
