Generic Icons for Apps moved to SD - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

Hi Guys,
Hope I post in the right forum, I am a noob, however I managed to put some Rom's on my EVO. But starting with the Ti-X Rom's and then my favorite Kingdom and Kinged Rom's 2.3.3 with sense 3.0 I have the same problem with all of them. I move an app to my SD card and after reboot I get a working generic shortcut to the app. The only was to fix it is to in God's name recreate them or a somewhat shorter way is to load a different scene and than load my old one back and they will come back. Could this be because I bouugh a 16GB class 4micro SD and just copied the contents from my 8gb class 2 SD ? That is what I found to do. Should I partition it via the EVO or someting ? I tried that an got a dead partition and could not even get the partiton back using Win 7. Had to use SD formater and got my 16 GB Fat32 back, moved all from the 8B SD and same issue.
One more question about the 3Update-Kinged-Kingdom-RLS1.zip Rom. Has some small bugs (for sure does not keep icons after reboot to apps moved to SD) but why the F does thepersonalize icon (the main one next to the phone launch a browser to King's Rome web page page or some RSS and not the personalize page for ?
Any help would be apreciated

I've got the same problem on my EVO 4G with the Kinged-Kingdom rom. I'm not sure what to do about that. It'd be nice if I could find an answer.
As for the personalize icon on the home page, you can change that with the 'Misfit Rosie' app that comes in the rom.
I also have issues with the new Android Market (3.1.27). It will download updates for installed apps and then get stuck there. I have to kill the market and restart it for it to install the update and complete. So if anyone has any insight into that, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure of a permanent fix but if want the icons back just change the scene (long press on an empty bit of a home screen) choose the scene menu and choose a new scene, Then just go back to your original scene. Quicker than recreating your icons...

Hi,
Thank you so much. This is the best nand sense rom that i have come across so far. I love that you decided to bundle Data2EXT with Stock Desire.
Aside from some wakeup lag (bearable), I haven't been able to find any problems.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Mostly, i dont have lag on power, though it seems to be a common Sense build issue, anyway i did put some kernel updates on post #3.
I used all the day my build with SetCpu @ 1190 without problem and lags and battery is fine, worth a try .
Check in first post what radio i'm using, maybe changing it can help.

Looks good, tempted to download as the build I'm using at the moment doesn't work with MDJ S10.3.
Maybe, you could include a stock framework and stock fonts for stock lovers?
No problem......i will make an update with both stock fonts and framework.

build looks nice - this is my second nand flash both desire based.
The first worked perfectly and then i installed yours so i could get the sd memory but now im finding that alot of the apps that previously worked no longer do and i have also lost contacts.
The previous build was lightning fast whereas this seems to have a slight lag.
Do you think i have done something wrong? And should i download those 2 updates
Which build you was using?
Looking at your reply i suppose that you was using a non Data2Ext build, so it is normal:
_ Loosing App and Data if not a previous backup with Titanium backup,Mybackup,...
_A little lag, because Data are on SD card.

No, it wasnt a d2ext build (DFT's Desire build)
I guess you are right and i should expect lag etc
Am i right to assume that the apps that i find that arent working are doing so because they dont support a2sd? or should they 'believe' that they are on the rom?
I find that a large number of them, when i try to load them, just flash up the screen asking me to force close them.
Basic apps that should always run like Lookout security (worked previously) but only works intermittently now and i keep having to register apps such as the Android Market.
Also i cant seem to save contacts.
I dont know if there are apps that doesn't support a2sd but i just gave a try to Lookout Security and it does work as expected and i also can save contacts without any problem.
My guess is that you have something wrong with your SD card partition, read again the Readme.txt for "how to" partition it and before flash again the build, give a wipe from Clockworkmod menu.

thanks for this rom seems to be the best desire rom, only one thing can you increase usb transfer speed?Markinus has done this with his rom, thanks again
Thanks
Anyway USB transfer it is already patched, though i've seen that it is slow while using Multi Mount SD card.apk, can't go over 2,00 mb/s.

Apps on SD disappeared???

Hi everyone,
In panic mode right now...
I downloaded an app that helps you find all your apps that can be moved to the sd card. So it found 150 or so. After an hour of manually moving each one, I had over 400mb of free internal space and only like 40 apps left on the main phone storage. Awesome... but then this morning I noticed that things were running real slow... so I rebooted my phone. When it came back up I noticed some of my home screen shortcuts had become generic android icons. I went to my launcher & lots of apps were missing. I have a LOT of apps so I can't quite confirm yet whether its all the apps I moved to sd but it seems that way.
When I go to the market I see apps that I had yesterday as not installed. I have astro but I'm not quite sure what folder to look in to see if the apps are all still there, just not being seen by the android system maybe?
I've been driving all morning so I haven't gotten to research this much yet. Just rebooted a couple times hoping to fix it but no luck yet.
Any help is majorly appreciated. As soon as I'm at a computer ill be working on this all day. Freakin disaster!

Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
update to my question
so now that i'm in to work i can mess with this... quick update...
when i go to manage applications and go to "on SD card" i get a big list of apps that have the names like "cn.miren.browser" instead of Miren Browser and "com.alphonso.pulse" instead of Pulse which is kinda normal except usually they then refresh with the regular name and the size listed underneath. well it's been sitting here for 5 minutes now and hasn't change and it still says "Computing..." under each one and instead of the normal icons, its sort of a grayed out generic Android icon with an SD in the bottom right corner of the icon.
so clearly it still knows that these apps are there. it just maybe can't access them? i dont know. could it be the sd card? this is the original 8gb sd card that came with the g2...
any thoughts?
???
so i found out that the sd card had some errors in the file system. so i let windows fix the errors. no help (although my phone boots WAAAAAYYYYYY faster now).
so then i found that i have an extra 8gb microsd laying around (which also happened to be a better, class 6 one too). so i cleared it off and copied over alllll the files to it. booted up. STILL NO GO.
anyone have any ideas here? i'm really running out of ideas here.
when i boot, everything runs great, but all my apps that are installed to sd are gone. also it never says "preparing sd card" in the status bar when booting. then if i go to manage applications it never finishes "computing" the size of apps. if i go to "on sd" it shows all my apps, but says computing, and i can't access them, uninstall them, move them, etc. i'm totally out of ideas here and i really don't want to have to do a system restore.
anyone?
think im having the same problem . has ur market gone too?
fix?
ok so i ended up getting mine fixed using these steps that someone from a company that makes an apps2sd app sent me... the only difference i had to do was since my phone also wouldn't recognize my pc, i had to pop the sd card into my pc directly to delete the .android_secure folder... i don't want to mess up your phone or anything so make sure to read around a bit more before trying this, but this is what worked for me. after i started adding all my apps back one by one i've been fine ever since.:
"I guess the problem is ".android_secure" is not recognized by Android.
Would you try the following steps (I am not sure if it works)?
1. mount phone with PC
2. backup all files under .android_secure
3. delete .android_secure directory
4. unmount
5. try to move an app (any app) to SD card (it forces Android to
create .android_secure on SD)
6. mount phone with PC
7. restore all backuped .android_secure/* files to .android_secure
8. unmount => check if it recognized the apps that you moved to the SD card"

[Q]

I have 4 apps that I either use all the time or use to help me with my career in one way or another. When I view them from within Manage Applications (in Settings menu), none of them give me the option to move them to my external 16GB card (ie the "Move to SD card" button is grayed-out).
The apps are causing my phone to respond extremely slow, and I can't even open emails using the native Email app, as I get errors stating that I don't have enough internal memory available.
To get the phone to work, I've been having to continually remove and reinstall these applications that I need, as I need them.
Is there a way I can move my apps to my SD card even though the option is grayed-out? If not, are there any other ways to keep using my much-needed apps, yet alleviate the internal memory issues they're causing?
I really wish this phone came with more internal memory. Thanks in advance for your taking the time to read this!
First off, lets start with the basics, Are you rooted, what ROM are you running, and if possible, can/will the SD card run A2SD?
Secondly, what apps are you attempting to use on the SD card? Some apps run better on the system on Froyo and some run better on the SD card in Gingerbread.
I'm not yet rooted, I'm trying to do that now using these instructions, but I'm stuck at Step 9, where it says, "adb push ota.zip /sdcard/update.zip".
Any idea what that means, or how exactly you're supposed to execute that step?
How do I go about teling you the kind of ROM I'm using?
The apps I'm using are Feedsquares, JEFIT, TuneInRadio, and Evernote.
That's a good start, though I would follow these steps if I were you. Have you updated your phone to the latest Froyo Update available for the MyTouch Slide? If not then don't, it will make things more difficult for you and cut down on options in the future. If SO, then you'll NEED to follow the Step by Step guide I linked. as far as ROM... it's the OS you choose (after rooting) to install. Either CyanogenMod Froyo, Gingerbread, Salsa Slide, etc etc. Those are ROMs. I'll look futher into the apps you mentioned and see how they respond on my phone tomorrow and update you on my personal thoughts there.
P.S. Is you didn't update to the most recent Froyo then that would explain why you can't Apps 2 SD, as Eclair does not have that option. Froyo, Gingerbread and up have that option available.
P.S.S. If you have not already read it... read the noob FAQ... Thanks a lot.
How do I know if my phone has the latest Froyo Update or not? All of this terminology is new to me. All I'm really trying to do is force some of these applications onto my SD card so I can free-up some device memory.
Did you get the opportunity to test out the apps?
I will check out and print the noob FAQ right now.
P.S. I would like to have iHeartRadio and "Twitter" app installed as well, but I just don't have the space on my phone in it's current state.
Go to menu>settings>about phone> android version. That will let you know what version of android you are using.
Once you read the noob FAQ things will get cleared up for you. If you are running Android 2.1, then you are on Eclair and are unable to install on SD.
I have 2.2.1
so you are running T Mobiles Froyo update. After reading the noob FAQ, root your phone and pick a ROM to install. I suggest using the root method I linked in a previous post. Good Luck. Afterwards you shouldn't have any problems getting those apps to SD card. works fine on my phone.

[Q] ROM Revolution v3.0

Does anybody can tell me if in the new release 3.0 they fixed the issue with small font ??
I'm still on V2.0 but looking at the changelog I don't think Tamirda did anything with the fonts, you could try changing the fonts to the ICS roboto font. Made the texts all much nicer looking and easier to read. That's how it is to me anyway
What about the A2SD+ working? Despite having installed this, my internal storage still shows 120ish megs...someone in the development thread said it's still working but I dunno, since after installing maybe 5 apps I went from 14megs used to maybe 30megs. It doesn't show the external partition size in the settings.
I was going to quote you but pressed thanks instead. lol. Can't say much about the A2SD+ version coz I've only been using data++ but since everyone says its working then it must be working right? You should try out the data++ version. Its much better and you get more space of course.

A2SD + for me works good . A t the beginning i had 170Mb (more or less) free internal space . Now i have installed 40 apps and i am at 100Mb free . So you dont' have to care about that number . it works , i don't know how but it works .....
But if you have to install hundreds apps you should use Data++ version .

Well like I said I only changed the type of font, not the size of it. But by changing the type of font it looked easier to read. You can use an app called Font Changer
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.martino2k6.fontchangerlite
and use this Roboto Font.

Thanks for the tip about TitaniumBackup... I just flashed revolution back onto my desire and checked Titanium and it does indeed say SD Card (a2sd+) and the partition size... I guess I was just used to seeing it in the settings under SD and Storage like other roms and so when I didn't see it, I just assumed it wasn't working.
Thanks man

Moving to Q&A
Hi, installed on thursday (first rom installed) and i have two questions if anyone can help
1.Available space: Internal storage sais 28.79MB and SD card (a2sd) sais 1.62GB
I assume there is plenty of space for apps. Right?
2.Notification sound. There is no way to use my own notifiaction sounds, only the ones loaded with the rom.Other option is HTC Hub. There is no option to add my own as i did for the ringtone. I am missing something? Tried to copy my own on t=o the same dir with the rom's notifiaction sounds but access was denied.
So far battery seems to last longer.
EDIT: add third question=> Google calendar is missing and i can not add it.When i select calendars only "PC Sync" appears in the list. This is quite an issue for me.
Getting worse...
I did a fresh installation. Flashed radio, hboot, creted ext4 partitions on sd card, full wipe and installed RevolutioN.xMas.Edition.v3.0.Data++-signed
Now, each time i select a day in the calendar (HTC calendar) i get an error and the white screen with the green HTC logo.Text error:
"Sorry!
The application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
After that i see the white screen with the green HTC logo and widgets are reloading.....
This is really frustrating and i can not post on the rom's thread since these are my first posts.
No one came up with this???
Not a good start for 2012
--------------------------------
Device: HTC Desire PVT4 S-OFF
ROM: RevolutioN v3.0 Data++
Radio: 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.08
HBOOT: Cm7r2
Recovery: 4Ext v.2.2.7 RC6
Which hboot did you flash?
AlphaRev CM7 r2
HBOOT: 6.93.1002
------------------
After adding and removing my gmail calendar which lead each time to the same result, fail and white screen, i removed the htc sense clock and added fancy widget. Then i noticed that i could select any day in the calendar (HTC calendar) without getting an error and the white screen with the green HTC logo. This did not solve the issue but it is a workaround.I prefer using the calendar than using the sense clock widget.
I noti ced that the option to clear cache for HTC Sense is grayed out but i don't know if it is normal (Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> HTC Sense -> Clear cache)
Regarding the Notifications @ RevolutioN v3.0
I noticed on a second Desire with RevolutioN v3.0 (A2SD+ version) that it was not possible to use my own custom notification sounds via the settings menu.
However, after installing zedge and i successfully assigned one sound as notification from zedge.
After that i copied all my sounds into the zedge notifications directory (/sdcard/zedge/notifications).
I guess zedge added/mounted this directory with the systems notification directory and this dir was not read-only like the systems default notifications directory (/system/media/audio/notifications/)
(still can not post to the dev section RevolutioN thread ...noob alert )

Hi there,
I'm new on this and I still don't understand too much. Can you please help me?
I rooted my phone with revolution, that was the only one working for me. I have a HTC Desire Bravo. I have ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0 and some questions...
1. How can I flash the newest radio? I have tried to install from a zip archive and I get an error message each time.
2. How can I change the Hboot from 6.93.1002 to CM7 R2? I need it to install the Data++ of Revolution Rom. Is it the same way? I get the zip file and run it from the phone?
3. I have already tried to install once this rom and the available intern memory is somewhere around 11Mb. What am I doing wrong?
4. How can I do an ext2-ext3 and ext3-ext4 from revolution? On another HTC Desire bravo I did that with unrevoked but i'm stuck now on revolution, it seems impossible...
Thanks in advance for your answers. I'm trying to learn and I really appreciate any guidance.
Hi.
I am running RevolutioN V3.0, the A2SD+ version.
I really like the performance of this ROM, but there is just one thing that is bothering me.
The problem I have is actually a known problem in the standard HTC Sense. This is related to how phone numbers for contacts in Iceland are handled. The country code for Iceland is +354 and all phone numbers have 7 digits.
But the problem is that if I have a contact saved with a phone number that includes the country code (+354 1234567) the contact is not recognized when I receive a call from him, since the received phone number is without the country code.
On the other hand if I have the contact saved without country code in the phone number (only 1234567) the phone doesn't recognize the contact when he sends me SMS messages, because the country code is always included in SMS messages.
So because of this bug I need to have all contacts stored with two copies of the phone numbers, one with country code and one without country code.
I don't know if this problem only occurs with Icelandic phone numbers or if this also happens with some other country codes, but it would be very good if this is something that could be fixed. I don't know if the problem is in the ROM itself or the kernel.

Hi again.
I just wanted to let you know that I finally found a fix for that caller ID problem in HTC Sense.
The fix is in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160343
I have tried it and it worked for me, so now I have this finally working in Sense.
Best regards,
Siggi.

DETAILS ABOUT THE ROM
It is not based on frenkiedroid as far as i know but followed other path onto chinese ROMS. I think it is faster than any other ROM (tell me if not). It has achived score 1035 on antutu on my class 10 sd card (this is almost the speed of a native android phone using cm6 and this fast hardware)
According to measuments made using Benchmark & Tuning it is up to 56% faster compared to the already fast frenkiedroid
Tested

You can try either my ROM or twister2 ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342764
they are both the same level
the fastest is mine
faster GPS in on mine (ms-based preconfigured)
wi-fi i think works a little better on twister
twister has preloaded facebook etc, while mine has only stock apps
mine has business (single) coloured menus while twister has fancy (multi) coloured menus
if you want to install optional apps that have ads and you are not expert on android then install twister
if you want to install apps that do not have ads (or have ads and you are android expert) you can choose mine
please not that some people mentioned that with my ROM their SIM card was not recognized. i am not sure if the same for your SIM, your country.
Only two ROMS to choose. so you need only a few hours to try them both and make your decision. the choise is yours
Samsung i8000 (omnia2) android cm6new rom v4
as I promised long ago to publish
SAMSUNG I8000 (OMNIA2) ANDROID CM6NEW ROM Version 4
- Support even more SIM
- Speed improvement - response
- Corrected some errors
- Upgrading of most programs
- Show ics (ice cream sandwich - android 4.0.X)
- Arrangements for energy savings
The new enhancements took me some time and study. I8000 reaches its limits due to its old drivers that are already written for mobile identical hardware with it.
Hope you like it and I expect opinions and suggestions to version 5 if there will be any further developments. Otherwise I will try to assist in the plan for android 2.3 on our mobile.
Explanation photo below
1 = home screen (the background is black on purpose because the amoled screen thus consumes less energy. If you want to change select another background with as many black dots. Black and not just dark color.)
2 = dialer with ics theme, search function names and support many languagesk. Make it default dialer if you like it
3 = new android ics Task Manager (task manager). Appear with long press of home button. If you do not like replace it with the Advanced Task Manager or ICS Task Manager / Switcher. To open them again by long pressing the central button select Settings / Cyanogenmod Settings / Input / Long-press home settings / select custom application
4 = ics camera
5 = menu ics (holo launcher)
6 = ics settings
For those who want even more contemporary look can choose Active lockscreen or Holo Locker
I tried installing this on my Omnia II.
I successfully create the partitions on my SD card, but when I go to starting the process with the ROM file, it comes back with the error message:
"The image file requires an updated version of this program."
I grabbed the latest version just to try it, and I need to purchase a key to make it work.
Yes, I reset my computer clock to September 1st, 2011. Do i need to reboot the machine after the clock reset?
Everything else so far seems to work fine, and if this works even half as good as I think it will, props to you for getting this done. I hate hate HATE winblows 6.5 on my Omnia II, and always wanted android. I tried a few of the older attempts years ago, but nothing was every stable enough to keep it.
Thanks again for any help.

I tried this program, and again, comes up with the same error message.
I'm getting to the point where I have to change the date, then run image for windows, but it just keeps giving me that error.
I'm running windows Vista, could that be causing the issue? is there any other information I need to change or pay attention too?
I'm literally doing everything step by step, and yet its not working for me.

it's only 542.27 KB. how long time can get to download ?
even if you have dial up or the server is full you need seconds to download it
just make sure the time change is ok and better cut all internet connections before execute the program

anyway i already downloaded the file

got an error " the image file requires an updated version of this program"
internet id off
antivirus is off
date set to 1 september 2011
I've just tested it, the same problem I had as others already mentioned. I went back to the version 3, success! So I think the version 4 image is damaged or not correctly made. By the way, the version 3 that did work for me has no microsd card support. You should modify by yourself the startup.txt file to enable the sd card support.
Hope my words can be helpful to others.

i made my ROM to be installed on sdcard with sdcard support. Hundreds of users already installed it and no problems at all. i installed V4 again last night and no problem at all. my phone is i8000 8gb version if you install on storage card YES you should edit startup.txt and also edit vold.fstab and fstab files.
if find some free time from android 2.3 development project testings i will make a Version 5 and on this version i hope minor problems to be solved.
I downloaded the newest version of Image for Windows, which is v2.83 (the one in the package is v2.61), the tool to write the image into the partition ext4, and this time, everything went just like a charm.
I have to admit that the V4 image is a very good one. It's really fast and clean. I think the problem that we had before is caused by the lower version of Image for Windows. V2.61 can't load correctly the V4 image file, which I think is made by a higher version of Image for Windows. With the new version of Image for Windows, it's even not necessary to change the date.
The Chiese ringtones in this ROM are hilarious. I'm a Chinese, they are OK with me. But I think original ringtones would be better for common users, hehehe.
great work , will it work on omnia b7610 too !!

technically yes it can run. but i do not own one to test it myself. you can try yourself and tell us your experiences. test on sd card installation first. it it pretty smooth and fast. you will be amazed. in case it will not work you can always check TwisterV2 ROM also very fast and smooth
see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342764
alternatively in case you meet some driver conflicts you can always use ubuntu and other ROM's drivers to edit this ROM and make it work for you.

I am facing the same issue, I cannot load my Storage Card.
1. I am confuse with term SD Card here. Is it refer to Storage Card or My Storage? Storage Card means external micro sd card, isn't?
2. I followed the instruction and put the Image to Storage Card. How can I activate the Storage Card Support by editting fstab files? Where can I find these files?
3. I had format Partition 1333Mb to ext4 File System, but I wonder why it always turn to ext3 after I restore TBI file(after ImageRecover step). Is it okay?
Thanks.
