WebOS Section - About xda-developers.com

Hello mods/admins.
I wanted to ask to put a General Sub-Forum in WebOS Forum Section because is really needed.
Just to clarify two things and the first one is:
The first subforum says: Technical discussion of WebOS development and hacking. @No noobs [email protected] So what with the Newbies on WebOS world?, is this a good start? NO!. And you can't post in the other subforum of WebOS because you need atleast 10 posts.
The second things is:
We need the General WebOS subforum because at this forum there can be posted the Questions, News, etc...
Thanks and i'm glad if you see this.
P.D:
I saw a post asking for put a Touchpad subforum too, it would be nice if since now make a Touchpad subforum too, because that way then WebOS can grow more and more, and i'm about to buy a Touchpad in like 1-2 months .

BUMP. I need a reply.

BUMP BUMP BUMP!. Admins/Mods please, take a look over here...

Sorry, but the WebOS forums don't have enough activity to warrant having additional forums at this time. If that changes, we'll reconsider.

Poll-Rhodium Android Development Sub-forum Request!!!

I am posting this only because I am sick, as many of us are, of searching through 10 forums/sub-forums, polls and bountys just to get the information on updates to Android running on our TP2's.
Please vote!!!
Doing this to hopefully get the attention of the mods.
bump
Any other takers?
I voted. I wish all applicable phone forum groups would have an Android sub-forum in them. It would surely clean up the forums a lot!
i definately agree that we should have a sticky for this, would make things much easier to have everything in one place, a one-stop forum for all that is android
87 page threads can be a little tough to sort through too. Hopefully having their own forum will allow them to decompress a little and let noobs like myself get a better idea of the progress without investing enough time to read war and peace. +1 for an Rhodium Android subforum.
no, I like searching in umpteen different places. 4 10.00%

I dunno this survey question seems iffy
I would definitely like this - there needs to be more threads for Android on Rhodium as things develop, and they need to be kept together. A sub-forum would fit the bill perfectly.
great idea!
I think a subforum would be a great idea...
You could say the same things for any of the more popular WM ROMs too though, e.g. threads with thousands of responses are out of hand and very hard to manage.

Yeah, what this guy said, + the Android sticky; [email protected]
I think what we really need is a mod to close all the Android threads. Then someone who cares about keeping stuff up to date (Read my vote as reefermattness) start a new thread.
I think it is becoming cumbersome to try to sift through all of the threads and post to see if anything has been updated on the XDAndroid project. It would help a lot to see it all in one sub-forum. It would help to clean up the other Rhodium forums also.
Everyone keep up the great work and keep showing all of our support for Android for Rhodium!

I think bringing it to the attention of the mods may help things. Because there is so much development why not have a sub forum to weed through instead of getting it mixed up with the great Roms that are listed in this sub.

just joking around with you guys. Also, just want to give you guys couple links that is working for me (the above and my signature)
i think it is still too early to request an adroid subforum...first get everything to work...then request it
since not everything works
anyway this subforum isn't called "wm rom development",but rom development..so it is totally reasonable that such threads go here
so please triplecheck before you request something...

Except it's not a ROM yet, so I guess it shouldn't belong here. And it's not an application so it shouldn't belong in the Apps sub-forum either.
So let's call it Android Development!

I do agree that we should have a subforum here though, because I never know where to look for TP2 Android port updates, and it seems like if i do find a dedicated thread, theres someone saying to check "the other thread" for more information on one aspect or another... It would be great to have it all in one place!

what does a kernel actually do for your phone?

I see people using different kernels with different roms. Why so many kernels and whats their use?
Kernels basically run the back end of your phone. A lot of people make different/ update the kernels because they find a different way to improve battery life and make the phone run smoother and faster. Also, SBC kernels implement trickle charging which makes it so your phone is at or near a 100% when you take it off the charger
This question belongs in the Q&A section, not in the development section.
it posts in the correct section for starters....or does some research as this question has been asked a million times already
Looks like XDA needs to make a 20 post min now.
This is going to by my new trademark...
ROM Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
Oh, and please post your new kernel that you must be developing. I must have missed that somewhere in the OP.

Wow, you got us. To stick with your lunch table metaphor, imagine this subforum as a lunch table in a cafeteria. You and your friends are enjoying a nice conversation when out of nowhere 500 people run to your table and start vomiting all over it.
This subforum is set up so that they don't need to sticky legitimate development threads. Instead, they created other subforums for questions like these.
Yeah, it looks kind of bad when ten people run in going "wrong forum! wrong forum!," but they're trying to help in whatever way they can since this forum doesn't have a downvoting system.

1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.

This is my theory... maybe this will scare and annoy people enough that they will actually think twice and possibly search before posting in the wrong section. They should be scared to come in here and start a thread about a non-development topic.

Honeycomb Official SDK Available

**Note - this is the Official SDK release...NOT preview emulator**
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2011/02/final-android-30-platform-and-updated.html
Let's get things rollin for our Tabs!!
How many more threads on this?!
And put it in General!
Only thread in Galaxy Tab forum I've seen (since it was JUST released a short time ago)...and SDK is a Development tool. Apologies if Mods feel otherwise, however, it IS pertinent to 3.0 port attempts at this early stage.
Glad to see at least one troll lurking about.
?? How am I trolling?! There are at least 2 thread asking devs to port. Consider the plea heard. You shouldn't really post here unless you're starting the port. If you have, great! Let us know what you tried, and how it went. If not, this thread is redundant.
And if you're not asking for a port for the Tab (based on the emulator image that's in the SDK) then what are you asking for?
old news, once its out, its old news...working on a comb for my tab, working nicely just the way i wanted to...what sux is wifi aint working, had to use tether
I know there is a Thanks Button, is there a Booo Button? XP
This isn't a request thread...it's a link to the SDK, and to the fact that Google has just NOW released the OFFICIAL SDK for developers. It has finalized API's, and is ready for public consumption.
I did not post it with pleas of "please please make this work on our devices!?!?!"
If devs feel the contribution belongs in another forum, so be it...I for one prefer to contribute what I possibly can.
(Please note that there is a huge difference between afore mentioned "Preview SDK" and this release of offical finalized SDK...it's what's going out on devices live....If I'm mistaken, having only briefy compared the files, apologies)
In which case, we already know! If we are active on XDA then the chances are we read these blogs, we keep up with the world. Pointless threads in the development section don't help. This should be in general. It's general conversation.

And that looks to me like a request to get it ported. Maybe it's just me.
You thread is in the wrong place, there is an Android General section where this should be, not device specific.

LMAO...wow. Just forget it.
Heaven forbid the forums get locked down to such trivial BS (ie. omg unless you are gonna release it yourself shut up and be quiet).
Information is what keeps our community at the forefront. Either be the type of member that does any little thing to give our devices the edge (post a link to new source, post dump files, etc), or yell at everyone who puts in an effort.
More excited about the potential for a post in wrong forum than the potential for what we've been looking for to get 3.0 up and running.
I'm gonna get my hands dirty!

This is interesting. Now, desire HD and nexus one also have Honey Comb ported. I really would love to see a port for galaxy tab. Although it may not be usable than AOSP but it's somewhat exciting. According to some news on the DESIRE HD XDA forum, Some functionality of the SDK will work with their current kernel. e.q. maybe you can boot the honey comb but others are broken. I am not sure if this is the same as for Galaxy tab but once we get it to display, the rests might be easier.
I don't effin care if the thread gets moved...
I would like to challenge the Mods to put more effort in to filtering out the jerks that troll the forums. Being an individual who prefers to attack any efforts made should be insta-ban.

So what, I have committed 1500+ trolling offenses then?
I'm not attacking anyway. If you port Honeycomb I will be genuinely grateful, I want to see it as much as everyone else. What I'm trying to do is keep the forums tidy. By all means post links to news and the like, just do it in the right section.
I appreciate your 1500+ contributions...I dislike your attitude towards an earnest effort, you aren't a forum mod, so it's not your job to "keep the forums tidy". So effin what if it's the wrong forum, let a dev move it. If I misunderstood the placement guidelines for a relevant development tool, I apologize. It seems the most obvious place for it...as it pertains to development. I didn't link to an article about the release, I linked to the release.

Really though, I'm more sick of seeing your replies saying "shoulda posted in general" than I am of people asking about honeycomb. Maybe you should go spend your time begging for a mod in here and less time contributing to the garbage we have to look though, considering every one of your posts politely informing (lol) people where they should post always turns the thread into a busy thread instead of just letting it die and go to page 2....
I honestly don't know if you're trying to troll or help out, but it's seriously more annoying than newbs posting in the wrong area.
Do people even know what trolling means anymore?
If you're not gonna use it properly....
The tab is not the only android device I follow up on. And I rarely look in general because I'm sick of all the "should I root my tab?!?" and "omg I bricked my phone" threads. This is the first instance I have seen the sdk was released. Once I try Boushh's deodex on my sprint tab, I might be able to start making my tab look like it has honeycomb at least. So thanks OP

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

Just because you're response to an innocuous post results in the same reaction doesn't automatically transpose the intent of the original poster.

We really need an iPad section. There is a lot of potential, and people out there interested in Android and Linux and even ChromeOS development for iPad. This could really take off...

I meant here, I would really help XDA. It could really take off. The market is there, just Google openiboot, it's by hexxeh. It runs on iPad but people need to start developing on it. And plus, there's no big "iPad Development" section. There's an iPad subforum of Hardware, but most of the threads are closed, not much activity on that forum.

The reason for not having apple hardware on xda was partly due to trolling etc.
I think the best place would be iPD, given you can load your account in there too.
The issue is very few people get into hacking the iDevices, giving an appearance of not much going on...
If you think there is a lot of demand, pm NotATreoFan and see what he says, as he could add a section if demand exists

The decision to move all iOS-related hardware/software to iPhone Developers was made by the owners of XDA. If the demand is there, I can create a new forum over at iPD for this cause, and you can create a closed thread here linking directly to it.
As for the username suggestion by Pulser, he is referring to the fact that all XDA usernames are reserved over at iPD, so you can transfer your account and keep the same ID/pass.

No one's demanding "master." lol
Does the symbolism of the word "development" in the forum really make a difference? Surely it is the content quality that matters more than the heading?
The iPad section looks fine to me. Make a thread, post what you have, get others involved.
When there is too much activity, and a separate section is needed, per
IMHO, does make a difference. Keeps it organized for one...for two, easier to find stuff.
I have to agree with Pulser here. If there is not a lot of activity in a "General" forum, why make a whole new development section for one or two threads. At this time, I'd say asking for a Development specific section is a little "demanding."
All in all, it seems you are more focused on the "titles" and "status" instead of the actual developing. I hope that is not the case, because that is outside XDA/iPD's "spirit" or "soul."
Start posting development stuff in General and if/when it gets popular and messy, we can make a new development section and move things around.

Is there any way to dualboot a desire? Like dhd?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
wrong section dumbass and no there is no dualboot

but yeah man this should be in Q&A! getting sick of all these questions in the development forum
Easy solution: only devs should have permission to create new threads in dev section (duh!).
Wrong section but its a great idea that would not work too little memory on the phone inself to run a dual boot. so could a Mod just close this as it is completely pointless.

This looks like a start of a war between the defenders of n00bs and fighters against n00bs. Mods, how about returning from Tahiti and dealing with this situation?

That's a good idea, but it also has a problem, a new developer without a recognized developer badge, can't open a thread and share his work.

How 'bout reviewing new threads by mods? (Hypocritical suggestion, I know).
That's a fairly standard option on a lot of forums, in some sections only specific categories of posters can start a new thread ( Mods and recognized developer should cover it here). Everyone else has to submit a new thread for mod approval. If implemented it would stop these "random questions" and d******s who post "hey i'm using this rom but can't be a***d reading the rom thread and gosh this is so important i'm gonna start a new thread

Good idea but don't forget not all people with low post counts post before they think, also i have seen noob type mistakes from senior members with 500+ posts before now.
The better idea is devs only being able to make new threads.
Maybe giving to top 3 devs mod status for entire Desire section. I'm confident they're capable more than enough to keep this place tidy.
with some basic search he could find this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15442534
Hmmm maybe 2 moderator per section is not enough we need more then 4...that's all...personally I don't have any prob. with noobs but at-least read the section rule....
BTW let see... does how desire is capable to run dual.boot...
I clicked that with expectations.
well I posted in the apps section for beta testers for a multiboot app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182325 since it's not rom development but then saw this thread and figured i'd link here if anyone's interested...

Granted the OP could have searched and found his question has been asked already,
BUT
1. Was this originally posted wrongly in the Dev section then moved???? If not, why in the h** are people freaking out about ANYONE asking a question in the Q&A (QUESTION and answer) forum?????????????????????
2. The Desire has the same size nand as the Nexus one, we have apha rev with custom MTD partions and Hboots. One would think that if this is possible on the Nexus one, it should be on the Desire.
3. As someone else said, post count and join date do not necessarily reflect one's amount of knowledge. Some people lack common sense about where to post, others are lazy. No matter what the forum rules are that will never change.
Respectfully,

Yep it was, although it could be better said to just be moved in the Q&A Forums, instead of feeding this post with 15+ responds about the same fact.
Anyway I think this thread should either be continued on the topic or closed.
Sorry for off-topic.
to answer the op question, at the moment no, but uncorrupted has been working on dual booting but hasnt had much joy, there is a thread about it, he'll be starting work again soon
