[LOLZ] 1.4ghz OC on the Bravo - Bravo Android Development

Those who like to overclock, I have found that 1.4ghz with VSEL at 82 (yeah omg) works good on our Bravos.
It runs stable, no reboots/extreme heat/weird problems and have been running for an hour. So feel free to run between 1 to 1.4ghz, and if you have an extra Bravo, or you're extremely brave, try 1.5
BTW, this is what it looks like:

Yes, when your phone, wait for the blue light and press volume down. Then go to CPU settings.
MINE LOOKS LIKE THIS:
Status: [enable]
load all modules: [enable]
Scaling: [Ondemand]
*clk1 [600]
*clk2 [1000]
*clk3 [1400]
-------------------------
*Vse11: [38]
*Vse12: [58]
*Vse13: [82]
But idk I ran it for a while and it got up to 122f. So I would stick with 1.1, 1.2, and maybe 1.3 ghz for normal use. 1.4 if you feel like seeing true power

Ok, I'll try it later when I change the phone digitizer that is broken!
PD: very low activity here in the forum, where is everybody? is that this phone is not very used? or is there another site for motorola bravo?
Thanks for the answer!!

Yes, extremely low activity. And any other website (android central, modmymobile, ect) has way lower activity than the xda Bravo thread.
Anyways, just hang out on the Defy forums, pretty much everything there will work on the Bravo (ROMs work, you just have to port them over)

what are the settings for overclocking to, say, 1.2?

Yes, XDA has the most high activity for bravo, I come from modmymobile and I have a cliq XT and a Backflip also but Bravo is the best of them all, I really like the speed, the screen, resolution, camera is not the best but does a great job taking pictures and recording videos in stock froyo, I hope you guys someday make it work in gingerbread!
PORT ROMS: Thats what I dont know and I would like to know, is it very difficult? is there a way to do it in windows? Or I just have to download a defy rom and flash them in recovery without changing anything?
I dont know how similar are our roms with defy roms and I'd like to know if defy roms can brake my phone if I flash them as they are. (I think thats not a problem becuase we can restore it with RSD Lite )
There are many questions I'd like you please to take your time to answer. I'd like to know everything because have always been wanting to be a developer of any phone, but I felt to lazy
Thanks!!!

I just bought a Motorola Atrix 4G to upgrade my phone/service so I'll probably test this out with my Bravo.

I usually do how to port in miui thread

Do you think you could help me getting more levels? There's only three all the way to 1.4ghz, I had mine at 600mhz, 1000mhz then 1.4 ghz. Is there a way to make more steps in between? And I don't need to know now, I just sent in my Bravo because it had 2 dead pixels

@BravoMotorola
Hey man, I think you can help me with modifing a framework from gingerblur, I would like to add some languages if there is a way and its possible.
Are you working also in making photo camera works? Thats the only thing we are missing after all.

I'm new member and I have some question?

Hello. I am a new member of the android. I have a My touch 3g Slide. I want to ask a few questions as follows, for your help:
1. How do I install software?
2. What is root? Can guide me? And what is overclocking?
Thank you for reading this.
First to say welcome.
Please read the rules and top stickys to know appropriate posting.
Root cause depends what device but has info on what it is read ROM dev on this sub forum for specifics to device
Overclocking is to increase the CPU frequency which will make device run faster but shorten battery life and induce more heat.
Install software either via market or placing on storage card and using many of the free File Managers available
PS dont double post have removed other post.

There's a couple ways you can do it, I don't have my phone right in front of me, but CM7 has an option in that area... with the "dragons ahead".
OR, a popular way to do it would be with SetCPU.

Then your phone can't handle 844. Some phones can do 844, 864 and even beyond, but it looks like your best bet will be 825. Like my phone D: (But it's still faster than 600 )
400 min shouldn't be a problem, but I usually just leave mine at 245. If you choose to, you can flash different kernels and have different governors, like the "smartass" governer. It's like interactive, but better!

I have a question, does anyone else have issues with the OC? I literally cant OC my slide. Anything around 768 and up gives me random soft reboots, and anything over 8 and it's bootloop city. I'm guessing that my cpu just doesn't like OC :/

I think other people have had problems with it, yeah. But then again, once you're past 600, you're in OC country.
Have you tried different kernels?

This ROM WILL NEVER BE THEMED, THERE ARE TOO MANY OUT THERE THAT ARE AND EASY TO ADD TO THIS ROM IF YOU LIKE THOSE THEMES I PREFER STOCK, THIS ROM WILL BE UPDATED ONLY TO INCLUDE NEW FEATURES, IT WILL BE OPTIMIZED. I ASSUME YOU BOUGHT THIS PHONE FOR PURE GOOGLE EXPERIENCE AND THAT IS HOW IT WILL STAY.
First get ROOT HERE
This is a ROM i put together, it is stock, zipaligned, deodexed with the battery fix that displays proper battery charging status. Included is netarchy's kernal 1.3.2 CFS. This was taken from stock rom so everything works. This rom is voodoo supported and all features work flawlessly.
THANK YOU TO NETARCHY FOR HIS KERNAL, COMBINED WITH THIS ROM GETS A QUADRANT OF 3103 WHEN OC'D TO 1.3 smartass
Make sure to wipe all, including delvik, cache, and data. Flash and enjoy. Also i get the best results when i set setcpu to 200 min and 1.3 max.
V_1 http://www.4shared.com/file/ZTt2qKd7/Gerbal_ROM.html?
***Just a word of advice, i seem to get no performance boost going from oc'd 1.3 to 1.4, i think it affects the governor in a bad way.
I have parted with my Nexus S 4G due to connection, reception, issues that I couldn't wait for sprint or Google or Samsung to address. I will update this rom with tweaks and such but the base will not but updated as i have returned to the Evo forums.
Updated the bootanimation in the rom..you will have to redownload and flash for it to take affect or download the bootanimation and flash via adb to /system/media
I'm getting the Nexus S 4G tomorrow and will be giving this a try. I'm coming from the Evo and I hope the Nexus 4G gets just as much love from developers as the EVO did. I doubt it, but thanks kpkimmel for the Rom. Like I said I will be flashing soon!
So how does the battery tweak work? I understand the 93% full charge is a safety feature. Does the tweak offset the numbers?
Yes, it offsets, so it should show 100%
Updated adfree to current host.
When you have a chance mind posting some screen shots? Thanks
Very nice, smooth and fast. I've been trying just about everything that's been coming out for the NS4G and this is one of the best. Thanks.

Yes it is, saw it on another rom and like it. Part of battery tweak.
I like this ROM, did a few adjustments with setCPU (posted a thread in General with my slightly modified advanced settings) and my battery is doing well. Haven't had this phone for more than 5 days, but noticed better results than other roms.
Clean, quick, and a job well done. Thanks!

I use Launcher Pro Plus, no issues at all. and in setcpu i have only one profile setup, its screen off max:400 min:100... any lower than 400 the screen doesn't turn back on.
same kernal included in rom (net's 1.3.2)
if you are having issues, try reverting to netarchy's stable release
i believe a BFS kernal is supposed to rid lag and latency, i dunno, i just use CFS, i feel its better on battery

CFS is better on bat, i havn't had any issues with the kernal provided but if you do have problems you can simply flash an alt. kernal.
thx for the quick response ev1. Ya I have tried the stable and beta builds and so far 1.3.2 CFS works the best on my phone. But any kernel I use I have lag from time to time.. I am starting to think its ADW EX issue now... FML I love it too.. Oh well I will try another and test out. But about to flash this ROM now to check it out. Thx again ev1 AND thank you for the work you contribute to the XDA community!! Much props.
Is there any way i can use the battery mod with stock rom? I'd flash this rom but i wanna stick with stock for a little longer since i just bought this phone.

Guide on how to operate Setvsel?

I just ordered at Defy yesterday to have as a workphone. I would very much like to overclock it to at least 1GHZ so that it at least matches the Iphone 4. I've read that alot of people use a program called Setvsel but couldn't find any video tutorials on Youtube. How does the program work and is there a guide on how to find the sweetspot for you phone in terms of battery-life and performance? I have seen that there are 3 different setting you have to consider: VSel1, VSel2 and VSel3. So how do i do to learn to operate the program correctly without doing something that might harm the phone?
Sincerely
Isak from Sweden
hi there! setvsel is very easy to use, you can set 3 vsel values (n*vsel = 0.6+n*0.0125V) and 3 frequencies. the defy is very undervoltable, so while the default vsels are 33/48/58, i use 17/30/42 at default frequencies (300/600/800), but the lowest vsel for 1ghz was 50vsel for me. you can also set various other things which you can see on the screenshots i uploaded. if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

So can i just copy your values? How does it work if i change it to the values you suggested, should i first set the CPU to 1GHZ and then change the 3 vsel values? What would be the best to start with for me as a noobie? A lot of questions but i know from experience from overcklocking computer CPUs that it can be more complicated then one first thought.
Thanks for you earlier reply by the way/Isak
This is a good thread to read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063537
Just dont tick apply at boot until you know the phone is stable at the values you pick. For 1GHz the default value at Vsel3 seems like a no brainer, it seems to work for everyone.
my values are the lowest i could get, it doesnt neccessarily mean theyll work for you. start 2-3 vsels higher than me then - if stable - lower the values one by one, and test them with stability test. you should know that if you change the values for vsel and frequency at the same time and then click apply, the program first sets the vsel to the new value and then the frequency. that means if you want to set a higher frequency, first set the vsel. if lower, then frequency comes first. it is that easy, nothing that complicated, much simpler than a desktop computer oc.

Rooting does no harm, but it allows you to run apps that do.
When your phone is rooted you're out of warranty, but you can restore your warranty by unrooting. Of course there's always the risk of a hardware failure that prevents you from unrooting.
To use Superoneclick i must have Microsoft.net Framework version 2.0 or higher. How do i check which version i'm currently running? I know that i've asked alot of questions but i just want to be sure what i'm doing before i start with a potentially risky operation like overclocking.
If you ordered your Defy last week it probably runs Froyo. That means you can root it with Gingerbreak. You don't need .net for that. You don't even need a computer to root your phone with Gingerbreak.

My plans are that i'm gonna root it with Superoneclick and then overclock using Setvsel. I'm gonna wait for the official release of Gingerbread though. So if i want to use Superoneclick i would still like to know how to check what version of Framework i'm currently running.
Your .net version: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/y549e41e.aspx
Which version of Android do you have? If your phone still runs Eclair then have fun fighting with SuperOneclick, but if you have Froyo (which you probably have right out of the box if you ordered your phone a week ago) you're better of with Gingerbreak.
Don't be fooled by the name. Gingerbreak roots Froyo too and it's a lot faster and easier than SuperOneclick.

If you are running Windows XP, have a look at your windows folder, sub folder Microsoft.NET/Framework.
There you will find subfolders for all installed framework versions (1.0xxx, 1.1xxx, 2.0xxx).
If you are using Vista or 7, Framework 2 is already included.
(rogier666 was faster)

Yes it's Android 2.2 (Froyo) i asked when i ordered it. I think i'll use Superoneclick anyway now that i've know how to use it. The program requires the latest drivers for the Defy installed on my computer. Is it the one named "Motorola 5.0 Driver with MotoHelper" found on the Motorola website i should download and install ?

i dont think so, as the 2.3.3 kernel has 4 vsel/frequency settings, while setvsel only supports three, could cause issues...
What's best performance on Motorola Defy stock 2.2.2 nordic using SetVsel if I want to 1Ghz maxium? Full stability and not too battery heating.
At 1 GHz I'd start at VSel3 = 58. Then run a stability test. If your phone passes the test, tune down VSel3 two units at a time, and check stability at every step.
If you're really lucky you might run 1 GHz at VSel3 = 45. On average the stable setting for VSel3 at 1 GHz is a little over 50.

Remember that I made a GB2.3.3 Gaming ROM cause GB2.3.5 have multitouch issue in games eg. Nova, Sandstorm it's like playing on a keyboard with a broken mouse, whenever you try to look right thumb, while left thumb is still on screen it will look only once then unresponsive.
We'll if your still on m1ndh4x8r roms or other GB2.3.5 roms, and likes to play gameloft games without problems, I have made a fix in the kernel that would remove this problem, and fix two thumbs simultaneous use, and not worry about hitting your enemy while running.
Download
Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dhznbecb42u2k9d
V2 update
Add IO schedulers
Add Governors
V3 update
Clean and recompiled
No wipe, just flash it.
Also compatible with Gaming ROM
Please hit thanks if it works for you.
im using your gaming rom
but as same at the m1ndh4x8r, my WFS still freeze at the lock screen, it totally not response. It very hard to unclock the phone. And the same issue when i try to end a call.
the important thing is after unlock, it work normally.
So, i dont know its a hardware problem or because the ROM?
any way to fix that? Thank
Sorry for bad english
For your information it is not related to kernel or rom, it is your digitizer that is broke
search google "wildfire s digitizer".
Also I don't have that problem in any rom or my rom.
better luck next time
OK, everybody it's ready for download. it's final version of fix.
I'll test this out ! Thanks for sharing.
(I'll edit here to report)
In stock firmware 2.14.401.1 cyclic rebooting. Or, after turning the device completely freezes. (no answer on the screen or keyboard)
P.s. S-OFF, CWM

well. i had this problem, too. on one earlier rom (dont know). But reinstall solved this problem
some phones dont support overclock thats why it freezes. sorry.
Hi i have a problem with this kernel not with the fix itself but after flashing this kernel each time that i try to turn the WiFi it says error and does not connect
Can you make a fix?
This just doesn't work at all when I tried it with CM7. It essentially broke the touchscreen - wasn't working at all. Artefacts were also coming up on the screen
cm7 is has a different kernel from sense. this is for sense only. also if you have wifi issues the zip wasnt flashed right. flash it 2x to be sure it overwrited the files.
Well, not editing since there were quite a number of replies.
It works much better than before, thanks ! It used to lag like as fu*k when unlocking the screen, and sometimes just randomly. Now it still has glitches and some slow times, but nothing compared to before. Nice job !
F*ck this sh*t "fix"/. Installed it 10 times but the same.. doesn't boot. My phone was with 2.1 m1ndh4xer and it was overclocked and was very good...

If it was so good, why'd you do it ? Anyway, you just have to flash the kernel back from the ROM you were using...

Thanks a lot for this! Flashed this kernel after doing a nandroid backup. With your latest GB2.3.5 stable / premium features rom it works fine, showing a lot more governors and i/o schedulers to choose from.
It seems that with this kernel I need to reduce OC one step. It seems to be more hardware demanding...
Had to reduce from 806 to 787 MHz in order to complete Antutu latest version benchmark. If I don't reduce OC, Antutu freezes at 7% testing (cpu).
Quadrant doesn't freeze phone and doesn't force me to remove battery...
Tomorrow I will test the gaming abilities of this kernel and will post results as soon as I can.
Thanks again for your constant work.
Edit: gave up using this kernel due to cpu instability.

Because of the multitouch in AirHockey game. It's wrote that it fixes it.. but nope.. And after flashing the kernel back all my data was deleted. However I've already reflashed mindhexer's ROM and now I'm ok
I tested this, and the multitouch works great, and the overall touchscreen experience is much better. However, this kernel's underclock is higher than my old one (m1ndh4x8r's) and my device freezes randomly. Also, there is a bug where the sound goes to mute and you can't bring the volume back up until the phone lets you do it (15 minutes - half an hour later). Not worth a better score in Fruit Ninja, in my opinion, but if you can fix these bugs it'd be a great replacement kernel
does it have overclock to 825mhz
really fix my multi-touch issue cool and i love it
Can somebody upload this somewhere else?

Trying to figure out my ROMS!!!

I have an Evo 4g. I was on cyanogenmod 7 for quite a while and finally got fed up with it. It seemed like I was one of the few that didn't like it. So I decided to try some sense based roms. I tried Tommy's Classic and really loved it. It was smooth and fast. But I was being greedy and wanted to overclock it.. So I reinstalled it with underworld v.8 kernel and did some over clocking...I found a lot of lagging with the underworld kernel so (when it was overclocked and wasn't lagging I loved it! It was screaming!). The lagging got to be too much so I tried Mikg v1.0 with the anthrax kernel. It's runs ok but I find lagging with it too. Long story short I think I want to go back to Tommy's Classic rom, but I'm wondering if there is a way to overclock it with out underworld or another kernel that will change a bunch of things. It seems like there are not many kernels for The Classic rom (4.56)... One of which is along The Classic theme but doesn't allow overclocking either. It seems like back in the day when I first rooted my evo that I was able to use set cpu to overclock by simply disabling perflock (or am I somehow forgetting that I did have to flash a different kernel?). So I guess I'm just asking: what are my options with overclocking The Classic... Or do I just run it the way it is??

Why dont you give this kernel a go... Freedom Kernel its very stable and its always ran great on all the sense roms i've used. Also make sure you dont overclock it too high,it will give you a lagging sensation and overheat your processor.I set mine at 1113 max and 245 min, with deadline and ondemand settings.

Thanks for your reply! The only thing I could find about the version the kernel is for is: 2.6.35 ... so does that mean I can only use it with mikg and can't use it with the classic? Thanks again

The kernel version is the base Linux kernel it was built off of, the only thing to worry about with kernels and roms is that they are for the same android build ie; gb rom + gb kernel = profit, ics rom + gb kernel = no bueno, and etc froyo+froyo, gb+gb, ics+ics, JB+JB don't go sticking a kernel for a different build with a rom or you'll lose functionality, softbrick/bootloop etc
