I'm new member and I have some question? - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I am a new member of the android. I have a My touch 3g Slide. I want to ask a few questions as follows, for your help:
1. How do I install software?
2. What is root? Can guide me? And what is overclocking?
Thank you for reading this.

First to say welcome.
Please read the rules and top stickys to know appropriate posting.
Root cause depends what device but has info on what it is read ROM dev on this sub forum for specifics to device
Overclocking is to increase the CPU frequency which will make device run faster but shorten battery life and induce more heat.
Install software either via market or placing on storage card and using many of the free File Managers available
PS dont double post have removed other post.

Hi guys. Can someone guide me How to overclock MT3GS? Because i very very very need it. Thank you. My phone has rooted

There's a couple ways you can do it, I don't have my phone right in front of me, but CM7 has an option in that area... with the "dragons ahead".
OR, a popular way to do it would be with SetCPU.

Its pretty straight forward, but if you have more questions, go ahead and ask.

Then your phone can't handle 844. Some phones can do 844, 864 and even beyond, but it looks like your best bet will be 825. Like my phone D: (But it's still faster than 600 )
400 min shouldn't be a problem, but I usually just leave mine at 245. If you choose to, you can flash different kernels and have different governors, like the "smartass" governer. It's like interactive, but better!

I have a question, does anyone else have issues with the OC? I literally cant OC my slide. Anything around 768 and up gives me random soft reboots, and anything over 8 and it's bootloop city. I'm guessing that my cpu just doesn't like OC :/

I think other people have had problems with it, yeah. But then again, once you're past 600, you're in OC country.
Have you tried different kernels?
EDIT: Nevermind, saw in another thread that you had. Ah well :< And also that 768 comes after 600 D:

well my phone oc to 825mhz and 400 min. Work very great

[App] Overclocking CPU Speed to 624Mhz

Hi,
Many threads in forum talking about overclocking, but here i found a simple and little application that let u set cpu speed to 624Mhz.
No installation required. Put the app in your device and choose your speed.
Can you share some of your experience to this application?
I installed and feel as same as before nothing different!
how do you "choose" the speed? I have no idea how to do that.I've installed and nothing else.
I just found this app in another forum.
Put in your \Windows folder and create a shortcut in Start Menu.
U have only 2 speeds: 520Mhz and 624Mhz.
Choose one.

since you´re using it what do you personaly think? is it stable/safe?
Just tried it, and i dont see a difference. out of curiosity, what forum did you find this in?
It's safe. And personnaly i don't see much difference too, but there is no other app to overcloking our devices for now.
I saw in PPCGeeks forum.
you ppl now overclocking is that the cpu gets more powe/ energy/ voltage.
it can do serous damage to youre mobile

But CPU of Blackstone is 528 MHz, not 520 MHz. These speeds (520 and 624) are speed steps of Marwell CPUs. Then I think this application is not for Blackstone.

Can you say from where exactly you get this? i mean the Thread from PPCgeeks because there have diferent overclock apps for diferent devices.. also some of them are old i mean the cab is made 2008 year and they don`t work or can damage your device now you post this in the Blackstone thread and i think then you need ot be sure its for Blackstone and our processor so please post the original link to read more about this.
The other point is that you and the other peoples who try it say thay they dont see any diference believe me with 624Mhz will have diference for naked eye in the performance of the Blackstone so this maybe mean that the app just not working for us...
Anyway will wait for the link to read more.
I have tested for 1 day, my device lock up 5 times and lastly I did a hard rest to clean this application away.
Anyone happened just same with me?

Someone who don`t install this already need to install 1st GLBenchmark 1.1.0 in the phone memory then soft reset and imideately to Bench the device after this to save the results to install the Overclock tool to make it to 624Mhz again Soft Reset and imideately after this to RUN again the Bench and save result and then we can see do have some diference from the 2 Bench results.

Sad truth: that is not funny. This app has been already busted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507798
I've tested it by SPB Benchmark- there were no differences between "before" and "after"
Are you kidding me? That would be absolutely awsome! An application like that would perfectly fit my needs.
not working!
Eing????
OC on a PC means go into the Bios. Who, what, when and how goes into the bios of a blackstone????
I have used this in my TP2, cant really say there is a notable difference. Ofcourse there are some lockups associated with it as well. Not worth it in my books.
This will not kill your device. Just a Hard Reset at the most.

[Q] Why is the newest Netarchy Kernel making my Stock Root Rom's FPS WORSE?!

Can anyone help me out?
I'm running stock rooted 2.2 (deodexed) and flahsed over the 4.0 zip... and the scrolling is choppier than all hell. I re flashed the stock kernel, and it was back to being fine again. So, I tried again, with wiping the caches first, and still choppier than all get out when I flashed the kernel.
It's definitely the right kernel, but what the hell am I doing wrong here? Any help would be appreciated.
And, I'll even throw in 5-10 dollrs for someone who can give me an answer that works.
This could be because of the new settings he just changed. Try the download that is 4.0.2 and not 4.0.3, or try overclocking your processor to 1.2GHZ with OC widget or SetCPU.
What kind of screen do you have? If you have a Nova panel, you may need to adjust T2 values to get the best performance. Just my 2 cents.
Ok, so I installed 4.0.2, and it seems to be running better, but still some choppiness on the menu up and down scrolling when "all apps" is opened.
I have no idea how to use SetCPU (noob yep... graphics guy... not a tech guy_, so I took a screen:

I have a Nova, but, I have no idea what T2 panels are and how to adjust them. If you could point me to the right app or direction, that'd be awesome. I'll donate to you as well if it helps.
There's an app floating around here called NovaFreq formerly evoswitch. It allows you to change the panel frequency to improve fps. Everyone gets different results. 450ish was usually the best for me. Basically trial and error. Most haven't needed it with recent kernels though. As for setcpu, the higher the max frequency the better fps performance, but overclocking comes with some risks. Im usually underclocked at 576max / 245min. You can also set profiles to run certain speeds when screen off, charging, etc. Helps a lot with battery life. I would move your max down to 998 or 1113 and min to 245. Ondemand is usually a good scaling setting. Hope this helps.

Wow thanks. I downloaded nova frequency, but just left it at default, and changed the setcpu, bc I was getting random reboots with the overclock. I also set profiles to way lower when the screen is off and the phone is at lower battery percents.
This phone officially runs like it's on crack now. Good stuff.
Guys, PM me ur paypals, and I dont' mind donating a few bucks tomorrow.

LOL bro. Not only did I tell you to use NovaFreq, but I also told you not to use SetCPU. You were getting reboots b/c it was set too high and you don't want to set it below 245 when screen is off. I don't think SetCPU is so great for *most* people. I could have helped you on GTalk and taken your money...gladly would have

Is there a standard setting for "setcpu"

Yep! SetCPU will really improve your battery life.
The biggest thing is to enable "profiles" in the second tab and create a "screen off" profile and set it to the lowest settings you can (clock it up a bit from that if you're noticing lag when you first turn on your screen).
Other than that, I also keep a profile that clocks my processor down to 800 when my battery's below 15%. The settings on the first tab are your main settings. If no other profile's conditions are met, this one will be the one the phone uses. It's useful to turn the profile notifications on for a little bit to make sure all your profiles are working properly at first.
Thanks... but isn't there a much more in depth settings? Could of sworn I've seen a post with a bunch of settings... I just don't know how to do it

Yeah give me a sec. I'll post a screen shot. Are you looking to overclock?
You can also change the governor settings for all your profiles. For my main one I use "ondemand" but for the other ones I use "powersave."
Here's all my settings. If want more depth, there is a setcpu thread somewhere on here.

The answer's the same for the both: it requires a custom kernel.
If you do happen to have one installed, make sure setCPU is set to "autodetect." On the main screen hit the menu button and then click device selection, and then press "autodetect recommended speeds."
If you don't have a custom kernel....welllllll....that's a whole different dicussion.
I just have freshs rom and the radio for it... I set mine up like yours, except I don't have the names yours has for the profiles... is it worthless for me if I don't have a customer kernal? What do they do really? Will it hurt anything? Finally will I lose anything? Sorry for the questions, but you seem to know your stuff very well...

No no no, it's no where near worthless without a custom kernel. It'll do almost everything without one. It just won't give you as many governor settings (honestly not even that useful) and it won't give you the ability to overclock (idk how important that is to you). Custom kernels won't hurt anything or make you lose anything. Check the HTC Evo 4G Android Development section to find some good ones if you want. Make sure you get a kernel for SENSE roms though and not AOSP, or you might have some issues. And of course, nand backup before you try a different kernel. Also, this is just a sidenote...a lot of custom ROMs do automatically install custom kernels with the ROM, Fresh just chooses to include the stock kernel with the ROM. Like for me, while I've tried a few different kernels, but my current one is just the one that came with Cyanogen Mod.
And hey, no worries man, I'm glad to answer, i'm pretty new to this myself, but XDA's been really good to me.

Performance will just keep it at the highest clocked speed. It's not something you want unless you're benchmarking or something. Ondemand will clock it up as apps, etc need.
So I should do all of my profiles ondemand??

Nah. I probably confused you with my last post. All the governor options other than performance will scale the clock speed between your profile's min and max as the phone needs it. But "conservative" or "powersave" modes will tend to scale as little as they need to, whereas "ondemand" will scale enough + fast enough so that there's never any lag. So for like your screen off profile, etc, you'll want to go with "conservative" or "powersave"
OK guys.. Thanks for all your help so far..
I just got a kernel (custom)
Kings #11.
Here is what I have
Fresh's rom 3.3
The radio that came with it, same post..
And Kings #11 Kernel
I took 3 screen shots of my Setcpu settings.
I really want to get the most out of this program and make sure I have it all right..
Here are the screens
Looks good. One thing I'd do is change all your profiles except Charging/Full to "powersave" or "conservative" instead of ondemand.
Also, you'll get better battery life if you lower the min on your Charging/Full profile to 245. That way it'll scale it up as needed, instead of keeping it at 998.
Other than that, looks good. I think you can do some stuff with the advanced tab, but i honestly don't know what any of that means.
I have my MIN at 384 on the MAIN profile and the EVO just seemed to LAG at 245. is this OK??

That's fine man. To decrease lag when waking up though, you'll wanna up the Screen Off max.
Just did a complete wipe and reinstall.
Curious as I have not reinstalled setcpu..
HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK IT REALLY INCREASED YOUR BATTERY??
I am starting to feel all this stuff is so minimal, and more a placebo effect..
Setcpu, juice defender, plugging it in at this time, and taking the battery out.. blah blah blah.. Not saying there is not a difference but its so small and we all go through a good amount of work to get things right, we WANT believe the battery is lasting that much longer.

[LOLZ] 1.4ghz OC on the Bravo

Those who like to overclock, I have found that 1.4ghz with VSEL at 82 (yeah omg) works good on our Bravos.
It runs stable, no reboots/extreme heat/weird problems and have been running for an hour. So feel free to run between 1 to 1.4ghz, and if you have an extra Bravo, or you're extremely brave, try 1.5

Yes, when your phone, wait for the blue light and press volume down. Then go to CPU settings.
MINE LOOKS LIKE THIS:
Status: [enable]
load all modules: [enable]
Scaling: [Ondemand]
*clk1 [600]
*clk2 [1000]
*clk3 [1400]
-------------------------
*Vse11: [38]
*Vse12: [58]
*Vse13: [82]
But idk I ran it for a while and it got up to 122f. So I would stick with 1.1, 1.2, and maybe 1.3 ghz for normal use. 1.4 if you feel like seeing true power
Ok, I'll try it later when I change the phone digitizer that is broken!
PD: very low activity here in the forum, where is everybody? is that this phone is not very used? or is there another site for motorola bravo?

Yes, extremely low activity. And any other website (android central, modmymobile, ect) has way lower activity than the xda Bravo thread.
Anyways, just hang out on the Defy forums, pretty much everything there will work on the Bravo (ROMs work, you just have to port them over)
what are the settings for overclocking to, say, 1.2?

Yes, XDA has the most high activity for bravo, I come from modmymobile and I have a cliq XT and a Backflip also but Bravo is the best of them all, I really like the speed, the screen, resolution, camera is not the best but does a great job taking pictures and recording videos in stock froyo, I hope you guys someday make it work in gingerbread!
PORT ROMS: Thats what I dont know and I would like to know, is it very difficult? is there a way to do it in windows? Or I just have to download a defy rom and flash them in recovery without changing anything?
I dont know how similar are our roms with defy roms and I'd like to know if defy roms can brake my phone if I flash them as they are. (I think thats not a problem becuase we can restore it with RSD Lite )
There are many questions I'd like you please to take your time to answer. I'd like to know everything because have always been wanting to be a developer of any phone, but I felt to lazy
Thanks!!!
I just bought a Motorola Atrix 4G to upgrade my phone/service so I'll probably test this out with my Bravo.

Read through dev sections and get much answers
I usually do how to port in miui thread
Cm7 and miui can almost direct port because they use froyo kernel..
Other roms like ginger blur are not easy as they use ginger bread kernel

for bandroidx overclock rom when i do 1.2 ghz i do 63 vsel or 62 and its stable. you just drain the battery faster my fav setting is 1ghz and leave it stock vsel and it it just purs
Tried 1.4G out but with 85. see if I can post the screenshot
You can also make an init script that controls vsel on demand up to 1.4

Do you think you could help me getting more levels? There's only three all the way to 1.4ghz, I had mine at 600mhz, 1000mhz then 1.4 ghz. Is there a way to make more steps in between? And I don't need to know now, I just sent in my Bravo because it had 2 dead pixels
@BravoMotorola
Hey man, I think you can help me with modifing a framework from gingerblur, I would like to add some languages if there is a way and its possible.
Are you working also in making photo camera works? Thats the only thing we are missing after all.

Kernels Overclocking/Voltages/Governors

Morning guys. I think I've clogged up Agats kernel thread enough with this so figured I should hop on over here and ask about what's going on.
First of all a big thanks to the few kernel devs we have over here. I understand that we did just recently get source so I'm not blaming anyone for the issues I'm encountering.
All I've been trying to do these past few days is see how far I can max out this phones performance. I'm not concerned right now with battery life. I live in a God awful data/signal area... but since source has dropped I have noticed without even touching a single setting improvements in performance.
So all I've been trying to do these last few days is overclock to 1.4 and KEEP it at 1.4 while my screen is on. I've mostly been using Tegrak Ultimate and Voltage Control and staying at Performance gov. From what Voltage Control is telling me though is the majority of the time I'm stuck at 800 MHZ. Very rarely am I at 1.4 and not only that the phone is barley ever at 500MHZ or 200MHZ. I've tried overvolting up to +75 across the board but that hasn't changed anything. I've tried different Schedulers and have seen a little improvement using CFQ. I've kept my governor at Performance.
I've never really been a big overclock guy. This just started as me seeing how far I can push this phones performance without it melting in my hands. LOL. Now though I'm just trying to learn and or understand why 96% of the time I'm sitting at 800mhz.
Thanks in advance for any feedback and especially thanks to Sleshepic, Agat, and RJ for the work they've put into these source kernels.
I've included a number of screenies..... sorry they are kind of random but it's what I've been posting in Agats thread..... but it gives you the general idea of what I'm getting at.
Thanks.

what ROM are you running? it would seem like you have conflicting scripts running. like a script which is preventing you from using certian steps. And even capping you at 800MHZ. Have you tried a full wipe then flash your rom and agat's kernel again? just wondering if there is a left over script from a perivous rom or battery saver mod. I have been following you on the kernel thread. hell, Ive been using google this to see if i can come up with something. thats I have right now.

Thanks man. You might be on to something there. I'm going to look further into scripts and how they may conflict with Tegrak/Setcpu/Voltages.
This could very well be the issue...... I can't think of anything else it could be.
Thanks again.

No problem. im also checking it out as well. I'll keep ya informed as what else i could find.
Go team venum! lol
Well I'm not getting anywhere on this. A few days ago I was testing Manufan's Hooligan ROM(awesome ROM by the way) then did a fresh install over to Mijjah's Goodness ROM. I just asked in his thread and Rwilco12 said there isn't a script in the ROM. He thinks there may be some apps conflicting.
The only thing I have left to do is another fresh install. Judging by the lack of responses in this thread I may be the only one having this issue.
do you have multiple OC apps? like i had to delet Rom tool box when I started using voltage control. same way when I had tagraz. I beleive you can only have on OC app at a time as they will conflict by trying to gain control over the CPU.
Yeah I'm running 0.2.3 and here's mine.

Well I have Rom Toolbox Pro but I'm just using that to change my font. I have Setcpu frozen thru TB and just using Tegrak Ultimate.
When I get home from work later I'm going to do a fresh install. Use Rom Toolbox Pro to change my font then freeze it. Then just use Tegrak and not install Setcpu.
See if that does it. Thanks again for your feedback.
