[MOD] Fix screen warm tint - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Hello,
I've been really angry about screen of SGS II - especially about its warm color tint. Today I've been playing with MDNIE profiles and finally managed, how to get off that annoying tint.
Attached file modifies MDNIE settings for "Standard" mode in "Settings > Display > Screen mode" options.
To apply this patch, EXTRACT ZIP and replace extracted "mdnie_tune_ui_standard_mode" with one in your "/system/etc" (root needed).
NOTE: This is not an CWM UPDATE.ZIP !!!
Try it and give me your suggestions!
Thanks!
EDIT:
If you want blueish Dynamic mode, just rename attached "mdnie_tune_ui_standard_mode" to "mdnie_tune_ui_dynamic_mode" and overwrite with one in your "/system/etc".
Settings are same but Samsung have "something" else added in Dynamic profile option.
Added comparison pictures - thanks to bala_gamer!
Note: Real look is bit different than on the pictures (the display is not that blue - at least on my screen). Pictures just shows how big amount of change this is.
There are a lot of screen types so you have to test in on your own if will it look acceptable to you

Just tested it and it did made a difference. Isn't the bluish tint a little too much?

I think that its just a matter of manner.
If I compare these settings with my old, perfect, SGS 1's display, it is still too warm...

It's going to be difficult to match the SGS1 because Supercurio implemented his Voodoo Color application. However, I think your fix is pretty good. Still a little off but much better than before. Thanks

Nice find, I quite like the change, looks to be a little further down the blue side of the spectrum on mine than neutral-white.

I do not use Voodoo color at my SGS 1 at all - everything is in default about screen. I think that through these MDNIE settings we can make SGS 2 display colors almost perfect! It just need time to play with...

I think it's a matter of taste. Plus, I think not all SGS2s are calibrated the same way. For me, I like the colors the way they are except for the highlights which I think are on the cold side; need more red and a bit of green.
Anyway, good job. Keep it up.

Could someone show some comparison pictures?
Would be nice to see.

I have access to four another SGS2 (in company where I work) and all of them are grossy warm...I've applied my settings to all of them and they are looking much better.
I've tried to take a photo with and without mod but I have camera with auto white balance so there is no difference. The change is not very significant either...just a little change of color tone - better to try yourself but don't forget to backup your original files

The color is still very yellow compared to the galaxy (I9000), but thanks for your temporary fix.

I like it, Difference is vivid..

Super! !!! Thanks man!

This is amazing!
Permission to include in future releases of DlevROM2?
Again awesome stuff here! Keep it up, really makes a difference

Thanks a lot !

I have a more bluesh tint by default on my SGS2 as well. So I guess this fix wont do any good to my color profile. I guess it should be more warm ... more red and green probably...

thanks for your work, but can not find a mdnie_tune_ui_standard_mode file in /system/etc.
I´m on cm7. Is it missing there? How can your patch be applied there or is it just not necessary?
Thanks

On Cyanogen !!
You don't need to do this....Cyanogen is PERFECT !

I think it is a bit too much blueish, however, the yellowish is still there. By the way, thank you very much for this, I hope you could improve it to be perfect

Nice. Too blueish for my taste though

[DEV] RGB color balance for the Galaxy S

Due to conflicts between Color Calibration and the camera/video playback overlays, I would recommend not to do these modifications. If it was the case, just restore your nandroid backup.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
I'll try to improve the compatibility with our devices.
Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share some knowledge about a discovery I've made today.
Just like a lot of our Galaxy S community members, my screen was way too blueish (temperature "over 9000" kelvin).
However, by googling a few keywords around, I saw that a fix by storm9999 was available for the droid, N1, and even desire xx phones.
Basically I just tried to do the modifications on my Galaxy S with the Darky's 6.0 Gingerbread edition rom. And it works!
Here is a screenshot of the application:
http://img600.imageshack.us/i/uicolor.jpg
Requirements:
- Rooted phone
- Clockworkmod
- An Android 2.2[+] ROM (successfully tested on Darky's 6.0)
Installation:
- Make an nandroid backup just to be safe (français, english)
- Put the under-attached zip and apk files into the root folder of your internal sdcard
- Restart your phone in recovery mode
- Choose "install zip from sdcard", "choose zip from sdcard", and select the "calibrated-signed..." zip file
- Reboot your phone. Note: At first reboot, sim card may not be functional. Just reboot, and the issue should be gone
- Install the "calibrator-5.1" apk file with Astro or else
- Enjoy!
Please if you try this fix with another froyo rom, tell us if it works or not. I'll put a compatibility list here!
ROM compatibility:
- Darky's v6.0 Gingerbread ed. JPX => OK
- Stock JPU with CF-root => OK
Known bugs:
- If calibration is enabled, Spare Parts will crash when Render Settings is opened.
- When you tune your colors, the overlay appears over the sliders, and not over the calibration field at the top
- Camera and video playback lose their overlay
Credits
- Storm9999 for the apk and certificate
- Cyanogen and his team for the source files
- RixKliq for the icon making
- Xenio2000 for the UI improvements
- Supercurio for not integrating his awesome voodoo colorfix in JPU and JPX versions Sans rancune l'ami!

Lol yeah it's a good alternative and don't require recompiled kernel !
Limitation is that it lower the final brightness and reduce the color-resolution (something like 18 or 20 bits depending the adjustment you apply - very rough estimation)
but hey, it works !
Thank you eruur
Just installed, but i noticed no differencies, droid calibrator has red blue and green at 1000 is it ok?
Working in stock JPU with CF-root
but is the color overlay really supposed to appear over the sliders? shouldn't it be covering the calibration field at the top?
looks like this here:

You need to click on "User 1", then tune your colors. If your screen is a little blue, just decrease its value to something like 960.
Then save your settings.
At first I thought it wasn't working too, but if I put my blue value to 500, my screen is all yellow :d So it is actually working
I also recommend to do your calibration with the maximum brightness in order to be accurate!
@supercurio: De rien! lol

Indeed, I've noticed that also. You need to save, quit, and relaunch the calibrator to see the effect on the top field. I will try to fix the overlay position!
Does it make you lose overlays in camera and video player like it used to do before? Ie. is it modified in some way to be more compatible with stock Galaxy Froyo or is it just the unmodified files from stormy?
works with darky's rom 6.0 JPX + speedmod kernel K11C

I think I've posted about that in the original thread quite some time ago and I'm fairly certain I've mentioned this option in some Galaxy S threads either here in Development or in General. But that was most likely sometime in August or September, so it's long forgotten.
I guess it makes sense that the overlays stop working, given that you need to replace the libsurfaceflinger.so for this to work.
Too bad, I was quite excited that someone finally managed to get it to work on stock Galaxy ROM. I'd love to have the option to calibrate my screen to 6500K properly to match my PC screen and I thought someone finally made it possible without the need to use CyanogenMod (not that I have anything against CM, it's just it isn't all that stable/usable just yet).
Anyway, if anybody is interesting in using this even in this state, my screen is pretty close to 6500K when using these settings:
R: 965 G: 740 B: 720
Of course every screen is a bit different and the color temperature of SAMOLED screens changes with time, so no guarantees that this will work for you as well.

Sorry for the false joy.. I was also disappointed!
Anyway, I'll play with the modified libsurfaceflinger to see if I can come up with something.
Oh and for Razer: path /root/system/lib

[LWP][v0.6-pre] Crystal Reflection sensor-reactive Nexus 4 backplate live wallpaper

Inspired by Zurginator's cool Nexus 4 backplate backgrounds, I've started working on a live wallpaper interpretation of LG's Crystal Reflection glass process.
Current release: 0.6-pre
NOTE: I'm not currently working on this and don't currently have any plans to come back to it. It was a fun diversion for a couple of weeks. Thanks everyone.
Features:
Reacts to motion of your handset or tablet in a realistic way
Optionally reacts to ambient lighting conditions
Somewhat configurable (color of dots and background, number and size of dots, show/hide the lines in the dots)
Free (as in beer)
Free (as in speech, BSD 2-clause license, pull requests welcomed!)
Known bugs:
I haven't actually seen the back of a real Nexus 4 yet, so I may need to tune the response function once I have. (And I do have one on the way.)
Needs a demo video. (I'll take a community contribution here.)
Other TODO:
Optimus G pattern (apparently some diamondy thing?)
Point source lighting mode
Consider OpenGL ES
Consider dropping support for all API < 18 if Filterscript DTRT?
Ch-ch-ch-changelog
Enjoy!
nicely done! i was gonna comment on the other post about live wallpaper...beat me to it haha!
Looks really nice. Also I did modify those default values a bit.

v0.5-pre is built, adding an option to disable the little lines across the dots, adding a real icon, and simplifying the label used in the Live Wallpapers list.
You may need to uninstall or delete prefs for the old version. Definitely try that if it's refusing to load.
I've noticed that if I crank up the number of dots across on my Nexus 7, I can still get significant delays in rendering, despite using precomputed bitmaps. I suspect that the Nexus 10 will experience poor performance due to the sheer number of bitmaps to render. As it turns out, there's no access to a hardware-accelerated canvas from a live wallpaper, so I may have to rewrite the core as [edited] OpenGL ES (graphics Renderscript is deprecated), which would delay feature work.

After I went into the wallpaper settings and came back out the dots were there for me.
Seems to work for me even after clearing shared prefs. If you're setting it on a level surface or with the display straight up and down, with the default settings the display will appear black; more so if you are in a dark room (light sensor is enabled by default). I don't expect there to be a reason to make significant changes there to the defaults. All indications from reviews of N4s say that you don't normally even see the pattern; if anything I'm probably overstating the effect.
Thank you! It´s beautiful and i like it´s kind of sparkling.:good:
Can't wait to try it out once Google gets the N4 back in stock.
Dude thanks a million this **** looks sick on the N4

Sorry, no, I don't plan to do anything along those lines.
Incidentally, OpenGL, even with the help of a framework: pain in the butt.
UPDATE: Along those lines, rather than wait for me to figure out how to make that work, have v0.6-pre. It has some modest performance improvements.

[FIX] Fix the yellowish screen tint!

Warning!!! As someone commented he was totally unaware of this problem until he used this fix and it destroyed his experience with his phone
[REQ]Any developer that could help me with something? I want to make this app matching system UI with ready filters and put it in Setting so that it will look integrated like the galaxy screen settings, that would help ppl think the screenproblem is just a soft problem and doesn't depend on hardware. Please be kind and PM me
As many have noticed, and even made some ppl crazy is the yellow tint on our screen(HTC One X, Xperia Ion, S etc).
Searching for screen filtering at play store made my day!
Then i found this app: LINK
I installed it and then made a filter with:
Red 0
Green 0
Blue 8
Brightness: 100%
Contrast: -0
That made me feel like replacing the whole screen!
Second thing you should do is:
Press the MENU-button and go in to Options
Autorun [YES]
Hide status bar icon [YES]
Enjoy your screen! :victory:
You just destroyed my life, I'm seriously miserable now. I haven't noticed the yellow tint AT ALL until I tried this filter. Now I see it and it bugs me a lot.
The issue is: although this filter solves the problem completely, the phone is sluggish as hell, the graphics / UI seem slower than a low end Galaxy phone. That makes me sad, I'll have to live with the yellow tint forever

Dude I updated the post, I found another much better app/solution, this doesnt bug at all and is always on, you wont notice it is even running :good:
Yeah, this one is better but it's still much slower than usual... it's like the phone runs at 60 FPS stock and with the filter on it goes down to 24 FPS.
It's not really SERIOUS, it's just that the colors are kinda yellowish or you know when you set the color temperature too high on the TV? It's kinda like that. But the colors are nice anyways. It's still much better than the Galaxy S3 with that HDR Pixar Everywhere that gives me a headache. HAHA
Thanks for the tip, anyways! It works, after all.
Mine shows up only when XS is at high temperature but I hardly notice it ( I only got a slight tint at the bottom).. Its -0 Degrees where I live so no worries until summer
Xperia Ion Yellow Tint
My Xperia Ion lt28h have the Yellow tint, its unbearable with white screens, but its good at watching videos.
Screen Adjuster works fine, didn't notice any lags though.
However is there any possibility to mod it through the rom. If so that will be a great option.

Interesting app, but I think my screen was already ok because by increasing the blue level, now the screen has a blue tint on gray backgrounds. For example, the settings menu is now literally blue and no longer gray.
Am I one of the very few lucky ones who don't have a yellowish screen?
Cool
Works great
Oh, and by the way, try running Quadrant or another benchmark with this app active, enjoy your halved performance.

Few people have experienced some lag(maybe heavy use of RAM even without this app), but i have not, I have not yet noticed lower performance nor any battery drain
Having facebook, viber, twitter or something like those installed on your device draw much more performance and battery than this, and for me the screen and music playback is the most important

Are you sure the app was on when you ran the benchmark?
Anyway, the score is not really halved but reduced nonetheless. Antutu is affected by this too (usually I get 8400, with the app active 7900), at least on my phone (stock .50 rom stock kernel).
Also, I don't use facebook or any other ram-eating privacy-raping crap.
The app definitely reduces the phone's performance.

I was wondering how it happen. Then i discovered if your in a green color image that covers the screen for while yellow tint goes.
But don't know how it happen and why..

[Q] Where can I find the "warm vintage" photo effect?

Hi everyone!
As a Note II user, I really enjoy the "warm vintage" camera effect, and I shoot the 80% of the photos with this filter activated. After I tried many Apps, I'm stick with this stock effect because creates an excellent tone and colours, and does not look so vintage. But I will change my phone in a few months, and I can't find any App with something like that. Could anyone help me out with this? Thanks a lot!

Yes, you are right, I should have explained myself better. I meant I'm looking for the effect in real time, as is built in our Notes, so you can see it before you take the picture, not a filter you can apply later. And also I'd like the same white balance and colour saturation that "warm vintage" has, not an approximate solution. Thanks anyway for the response!:good:

Thank you very much
Try "Open Camera", it's free in the Playstore. It has quite same Warm Vintage effects in the stock camera app.

Thank you for the hint. Open Camera is nowhere near my expectation. Its true, that with white balance manually set to Daylight or Cloudy-daylight, the colours are much more alive, but not as much as I would imagine.
Any other idea? It really not possible to transfer the Samsung (S3) camera mode to other device?

Tried this?

Too bright after Nougat update?

One of the more pleasant surprises I got when I bought this phone was how dark the screen could get for night tile viewing. With Night Mode and the lowest brightness, I could browse my phone first thing in the morning without dying.
Now, on Nougat, Night Mode just adds a yellowish tint - probably reducing blue light or whatever - and brightness doesn't seem to go as low now. Kinda blinded this morning...
Is there some way of fixing this?
1.
2.
3.
And many more..
I probably should've specified I wasn't looking for a separate app for this purpose. I know that much!
