[LWP][v0.6-pre] Crystal Reflection sensor-reactive Nexus 4 backplate live wallpaper - Nexus 4 Themes and Apps

Inspired by Zurginator's cool Nexus 4 backplate backgrounds, I've started working on a live wallpaper interpretation of LG's Crystal Reflection glass process.
Current release: 0.6-pre
NOTE: I'm not currently working on this and don't currently have any plans to come back to it. It was a fun diversion for a couple of weeks. Thanks everyone.
Features:
Reacts to motion of your handset or tablet in a realistic way
Optionally reacts to ambient lighting conditions
Somewhat configurable (color of dots and background, number and size of dots, show/hide the lines in the dots)
Free (as in beer)
Free (as in speech, BSD 2-clause license, pull requests welcomed!)
Known bugs:
I haven't actually seen the back of a real Nexus 4 yet, so I may need to tune the response function once I have. (And I do have one on the way.)
Needs a demo video. (I'll take a community contribution here.)
Other TODO:
Optimus G pattern (apparently some diamondy thing?)
Point source lighting mode
Consider OpenGL ES
Consider dropping support for all API < 18 if Filterscript DTRT?
Ch-ch-ch-changelog
Enjoy!

nicely done! i was gonna comment on the other post about live wallpaper...beat me to it haha!

Looks really nice. Also I did modify those default values a bit.

It works so well! I have no pag at all!

v0.5-pre is built, adding an option to disable the little lines across the dots, adding a real icon, and simplifying the label used in the Live Wallpapers list.
You may need to uninstall or delete prefs for the old version. Definitely try that if it's refusing to load.
I've noticed that if I crank up the number of dots across on my Nexus 7, I can still get significant delays in rendering, despite using precomputed bitmaps. I suspect that the Nexus 10 will experience poor performance due to the sheer number of bitmaps to render. As it turns out, there's no access to a hardware-accelerated canvas from a live wallpaper, so I may have to rewrite the core as [edited] OpenGL ES (graphics Renderscript is deprecated), which would delay feature work.

Oh, I do want to say thanks to everyone who has tried this out, it's been a fun little side project and I'm glad it's gotten a positive reaction.

I downloaded the apk to my Inspire 4G and my LG Optimus G and just see a black screen and no background when chosen as the wallpaper

After I went into the wallpaper settings and came back out the dots were there for me.

Seems to work for me even after clearing shared prefs. If you're setting it on a level surface or with the display straight up and down, with the default settings the display will appear black; more so if you are in a dark room (light sensor is enabled by default). I don't expect there to be a reason to make significant changes there to the defaults. All indications from reviews of N4s say that you don't normally even see the pattern; if anything I'm probably overstating the effect.

Thank you! It´s beautiful and i like it´s kind of sparkling.:good:

Can't wait to try it out once Google gets the N4 back in stock.

Dude thanks a million this **** looks sick on the N4

hey i adss expecting the nexus on the back of the device to be colored, unfortunately its just plain gray..
can u come up with something like that in the live wall paper.. just a suggestion
:fingers-crossed:

Anyone wanna post a video? I would but my current phone doesn't have a gyroscope. Or a light sensor. Or a processor fast enough to take a screen video

Sorry, no, I don't plan to do anything along those lines.
Incidentally, OpenGL, even with the help of a framework: pain in the butt.
UPDATE: Along those lines, rather than wait for me to figure out how to make that work, have v0.6-pre. It has some modest performance improvements.

[MOD] Fix screen warm tint

Hello,
I've been really angry about screen of SGS II - especially about its warm color tint. Today I've been playing with MDNIE profiles and finally managed, how to get off that annoying tint.
Attached file modifies MDNIE settings for "Standard" mode in "Settings > Display > Screen mode" options.
To apply this patch, EXTRACT ZIP and replace extracted "mdnie_tune_ui_standard_mode" with one in your "/system/etc" (root needed).
NOTE: This is not an CWM UPDATE.ZIP !!!
Try it and give me your suggestions!
Thanks!
EDIT:
If you want blueish Dynamic mode, just rename attached "mdnie_tune_ui_standard_mode" to "mdnie_tune_ui_dynamic_mode" and overwrite with one in your "/system/etc".
Settings are same but Samsung have "something" else added in Dynamic profile option.
Added comparison pictures - thanks to bala_gamer!
Note: Real look is bit different than on the pictures (the display is not that blue - at least on my screen). Pictures just shows how big amount of change this is.
There are a lot of screen types so you have to test in on your own if will it look acceptable to you
Just tested it and it did made a difference. Isn't the bluish tint a little too much?
I think that its just a matter of manner.
If I compare these settings with my old, perfect, SGS 1's display, it is still too warm...

It's going to be difficult to match the SGS1 because Supercurio implemented his Voodoo Color application. However, I think your fix is pretty good. Still a little off but much better than before. Thanks
Nice find, I quite like the change, looks to be a little further down the blue side of the spectrum on mine than neutral-white.

I do not use Voodoo color at my SGS 1 at all - everything is in default about screen. I think that through these MDNIE settings we can make SGS 2 display colors almost perfect! It just need time to play with...
I think it's a matter of taste. Plus, I think not all SGS2s are calibrated the same way. For me, I like the colors the way they are except for the highlights which I think are on the cold side; need more red and a bit of green.
Anyway, good job. Keep it up.
Could someone show some comparison pictures?
Would be nice to see.

I have access to four another SGS2 (in company where I work) and all of them are grossy warm...I've applied my settings to all of them and they are looking much better.
I've tried to take a photo with and without mod but I have camera with auto white balance so there is no difference. The change is not very significant either...just a little change of color tone - better to try yourself but don't forget to backup your original files

Permission to include in future releases of DlevROM2?

Thanks a lot !
I have a more bluesh tint by default on my SGS2 as well. So I guess this fix wont do any good to my color profile. I guess it should be more warm ... more red and green probably...
thanks for your work, but can not find a mdnie_tune_ui_standard_mode file in /system/etc.

[Q][USA][GSM]Any way to turn off "dynamic contrast"?

Hello all,
I've been poking and prodding my new USA GSM Galaxy Nexus all day and I noticed something: the screen seems to have a dynamic contrast function, similar to that of new TVs. I would like to turn this function off, although I don't see anything in the stock ROM to do this.
NOTE: I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT "AUTOMATIC BRIGHTNESS".
I want to see if anyone else can reproduce this or if it's just me.
Turn off "Automatic brightness"
Set your phone to 100% brightness.
Hold your Galaxy Nexus in portrait mode.
Go to this page in your browser on your Galaxy Nexus:
http://www.samsung.com/us/
(make sure to request the desktop site and not the mobile site in your browser of choice)
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and zoom into the black section with all the links. Zoom in as far as you can. If you're using Chrome, the words "Who We Are" should go across the length of your screen.
Scroll your screen so the words "Who We Are" is at the top of the screen and no white background is present at the top of the screen. The lettering should be pure white. Remember where they are.
Slowly scroll the page up by swiping your finger down the screen so that you gradually see more of the white background and less of the black background until the black background completely disappears off the bottom of the screen.
Swipe back up so that the words "Who We Are" are in the same vertical position they were in Step 6.
Repeat steps 6-8 multiple times at a faster rate. As you keep scrolling, watch the brightness of the screen and/or the whiteness of the words "Who We Are". When you first start to see white, the white will be white, but when more white starts to take over the screen, the phone switches to a less-intense white. (I'm assuming to save battery)
Is anyone else experiencing this?
download supercurio's voodoo mod sequel, the displayexpert beta in the voodomods forum. there is an option to turn off the dynamic brightness limiter. works perfectly!
This comes up once in a while, and many people say they see this issue. But I just can't see it! The sgs2 has the option to turn this off, but nexus doesn't.
Is this available in the kernel code to view and tweak,or is it closed?

I'm not really a dev in any sense, but would like to see if this function is in the kernel and not hidden. If its not hidden then I'd imagine someone would have added an on/off option by now. So I'm not the person to handle this. My ability is at most compiling my own kernel with a little code change, at most, unfortunately.
Yeah. There is some kind of brightness limiter like plasmas have it too to meet energy star standards. Its a lot less noticeable on a phone screen and probably helps with power management. It can be a bummer on plasma watching hockey or movies like ice age. I would gather there is a way to tweak it. On plasma, no go.

all plasmas can turn off dynamic whatever. i am referring to what is called auto brightness limiter aka ABL. i know samsung and panasonic utilize it in their plasmas. no way to tweak it. there is something similar with samsung phones with amoled. bright images get toned down because all the white/brightness suck a lot of juice. i don't know if it can be tweaked on phones, but i think it can somehow.

[DEV] RGB ambient light sensor test app (no root required)

Hi all,
As some of you may know, the I9300 has an RGB ambient light sensor. I made a little app to show off the capabilities of the sensor. It's very basic at the moment since I just finished it but I though I'd share it with you guys and gals before heading to bed.
The sensor in the phone reports raw values, which haven't been adjusted to take into account the different sensitivity the human eye has to different colours. The app compensates a bit, by scaling the raw sensor values according to the CIE response curve. However I have not yet taken the non-linearity of intensity into account.
At the moment the app works best for strong colours.
To use the app:
Launch.
Done.
On the top left are the values reported by the sensor. The bottom square shows the colour after scaling/processing. If you tap the coloured square you can pause/unpause the measurement.
The attached pictures are what I get when I test my monitor. If I hold the phone next to the screen they look almost identical. So I can conclude my laptop screen is ****e
I have only tested this on the international version. So all you US folks, feel free to try it and let me know if it works.

Very nice work, seems like more and more people are learning to dev.
Very raw app, but with some work this could be useful.
Ps. Settings doesn't work
Thanks for the support.
I'm stuck on what to actually do with this, so if anyone has any ideas/features feel free to throw them out there.
Very nice! I'm just thinking that is there anyway we could turn this to an pc monitor calibration tool. Is the sensor accurate enough? Just thinking of the possibilities...
Nice app, i never knowed, that there are an rgb sensor)
Will be very cool if someone make something usefull with that)
Thank you for the show possibilities

This could be an awesome app for people who want to 'Colour Pick' from swatches, Eg: Paint matching, fabric matching etc...
You could also refine this to tweak & calibrate monitors (LCD/Plasma) just like thos $200.00 sensors you can buy at Photo stores.
For us photographers and cinematographers out there, it could be refined further to become an incident light meter...
Could also be used within a game where sensed colours could match a result of some kind..... endless possibilities..
Anyway, This is a very cool app indeed! I cant stop playing with it, Thanks for this!

Premium Suite Upgrade!

Yay multiwindow.

Contextual Awareness
(1) Page Buddy: Your phone will smartly predict what you intend to do according to your actions. For example, when you plug in your earphones, the device automatically opens up a page with the music player.
(2) Contextual Menu: When you list up apps, you can now choose to see the most frequently used ones first. Especially convenient when you’re looking through apps to find files to attach.
(3) Contextual Tag: When you take a picture on the phone, you can tag the weather, date, and place immediately.
*Enhanced Features*
(1) Multi Window: You can open two different apps at the same time into two different windows on the mobile screen.
(2) Auto Share Shot Pairing using NFC: By setting the camera to ‘Auto Share Shot’ mode, you can quickly share your photos and videos by simply tapping their GALAXY S III with other NFC and S-Beam enabled devices
(3) Reader Mode: You can easily control the size of the text on your browser! Also, you can just click the webpage to share it!
(4) Facebook Lock Ticker: The easiest way to see your Facebook News Feeds – set your phone to show it on your lock screen.
How do these new features sound? Exciting? But wait, we still got more so come back soon for part 2!
Dammit I was just about to post this. You beat me to it

Considering most of these Note II features are not even available on the T-Mobile Note II, I'm not hopeful about the prospects of Tmo ever pushing this out.

MULTIMEDIA
Paper Artist: You can make a picture like a pop artist. Change the moods of your pictures whenever you want.
Low Light Shot: It’s always tough to take pictures in dark places. So the Galaxy S III with Premium Suite has a Low-Light-Shot function.*Get your hands on one and check out the difference!
Best Face: The problem with group pictures? Somebody always, ALWAYS blinks. Well, Best Face is your solution to that. Best Face takes 5 consecutive pictures and lets you choose the best face for each person among those shots.
NEW FEATURES AND BETTER ACCESSIBILITY
Easy Mode: For first-time smartphone users and/or those who are really really, well, lazy. This function helps you set up the most five frequently used widgets on the home screen, so you don’t have to be tired of looking everywhere to find those apps.
Sound Balance: You can adjust the balance of volume one each side of earphones.
Setup Wizard: After turning on your cell phone, you can see the accessibility menu right away on the screen.
Easy Snap: With ‘talk back’ and ‘face detection’ on your settings menu, the Galaxy S III tells you how many faces it can detect on the camera preview.
Multi window, awesome

I havent had any issues. I will say that it is best recommended to remove fingerprints and set them back up when using new themes because the captured ringtone images are taken in different lighting conditions, if that makes sense.
As for the earliest them specifically, I have actually had much better accuracy with this theme than any other, believe it or not haha
