Processor datasheets required. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Development, be it a building or a program starts with a foundation. The foundation of this device is the hardware. The concrete slab which supports the first few floors (bootloaders and kernel) is the processor. To truely develop this device we need the specs on this slab. If anyone knows where we can find the datasheets, please post them.

Yes you are the man Adam.... Im glad youve taken interest in the E4GT ill be on the look out for datasheets as well as a bricked E4GT for you to demolish lol

Of course... The "Galaxy S2 family" wil be my next device. Not sure which one I want yet, but just as development on one Galaxy S develops the entire line, the same will apply to the Galaxy S2 family. The more we know, the more we can do.

Sorry, Yes, the Epic 4G has research done. the Epic 4G Touch (this forum) requires research before teardown... It's not something to go blindly into.
I do need an Original Epic 4G to remove the processor and document the UnBrickable Mod for the device.

i know this is'nt exactly what your looking for but since this thread is remotely about Processors i thought id post this little bit of info about the Exynos 4210

All except the TMob version apparently. It's to have a Qualcomm processor. With a totally different SoC, I wouldn't think it's going to be cross-developed with the rest of the SGS2 family.

Yes. I thought that was odd... I just read that on a tweet from @GalaxySsupport yesterday. It leaves one to wonder why they would release a flagship "S" class device with another manufacturer's processor. This also means we may need two forums for the Galaxy S II.

That's some great e-porn, but unless the actual device layout is the same, it's not worth much. We need processor "datasheets". Signal discriptions. Pinouts...

I just picked up this phone today. Got worried because on the top is a little sticker that says Digital By Qualcomm but according to quadrant system info:
Hardware: SMDKC210, which does appear to be the Exynos 4210.
But I also thought Exynos 4210 was ARMv9. Quadrant says this is ARMv7

This seems just as good as SGS2.

If it lands on tmobile I will. Is it just me, or does Hercules actually sounds better turn the sgs 2?
The dual core phone war just started, we will be forgotten. No point of having a phone with no support.

I seriously almost passed out when I read about this phone on phandroid.com, no lie. I was sooo bummed out about the htc sensation having a signed kernel, locked/signed bootloader, signed recovery, and that it's memlocked. Which to me sounds like no root ever, and I love htc phones. Then good ol sammy came along with this phone in beast mode, and hopefully will stick with unlocked bootloaders. So yes would be my answer, I will be getting this, in fact I'm saving up already

Smart. I will so get this phone if we aren't getting a SGS2, since it has comparable hardware, and it has Category 24 HSPA+, that right there is a win.

If T-mob does not have the SG II, I will buy the Hercules. I am not sure Samsung own chip would be much better than the Qualcomm Snapdragon. But I like the 4.5 in screen, good for my eyes
Also they say it will come out in July, at which time, I will be @ 1 yr of my contract and hopefully T-mob will let me do an early upgrade.

Why would Samsung not use their own processor? Seems fishy. I'll believe those specs when they are officially announced.
Considering the Infuse is only a 1.2ghz SINGLE core processor phone... and this phone is obviously the same thing... With different bands... So don't get too excited. It's not what you think it is...... It just sounds odd to me. But the thought of having a dual core snapdragon without a locked bootloader is pretty exciting.

Probably they want to keep Exynos official to the SGS line, or there's really that much of a shortage, that they can't put the Exynos in th Hercules.

I can't believe people actually buy that load of bunk. Google and Samsung would not be that stupid. If they released a spec-bumped GN on Sprint this quickly after the initial launch, they'd eat so much customer backlash their heads would spin.
If Sprint's going to get a GN at all, it'll be the same exact CDMA/LTE model Verizon got. Which still annoys me. Why doesn't the GSM version have 32GB of NAND?
Everything points to the Sprint Nexus having beefed up CPU and GPU. Motorola has done it too with the Droid Razr (battery). That's technology. With Android, you just cannot expect anymore to have the best device for very long. For sure something comes out a few months later which is better.
ArmedandDangerous said:
This won't happen because the whole point of a Nexus phone is to have a stable platform for each new OS. This having a new SoC, and this long after the official Nexus release means it's probably a false rumour. 99% false I would say. All Nexus phones so far have ALL been on 1 standard SoC, just how Google wants it to be.
BUT, if they DO release such a phone, the original Galaxy Nexus owners would be so royally pissed~

Let's end this discussion please. There's already an exact thread in the Q&A section. No Nexus phone has ever been given a bumped up spec in the same generation, and I hope they never will.
Um, no. It won't have a beefed up CPU/GPU. It might have the CPU clocked higher but that's it, they won't change the hardware. Are you forgetting that this is a developer phone, a reference device. They won't fragment it.

Speculation, but Google will never let this happen. Nexus phones are meant to be ALL the same SoC regardless of region. Only clock frequencies and radios change, not the SoC wholesale.

32GB version starts to ship this month, as well as the white.
I couldn't care less as long as my Galaxy Nexus gets updates. That and pure Android OS is the reason why I got this phone, Galaxy SII has "better" spec and is cheaper but I got this for those two reasons.
If I remember correctly Nexus S had an inferior version with SLCD because of AMOLED production issues but hardware remained pretty much the same. Sprint Nexus or whatever it may be called may just have OMAP 4460 running at its intended frequency, which I believe is 1.5 GHz. I doubt Google will stray too far from the original Nexus, but only time will tell what eventually happens.
Speaking of updates where is 4.0.3. I've been waiting patiently for the OTA. Pull your thumb out and start working Google.

Steal Features from S3?

So they just reveiled the S3 with a bunch of new features... so I am wondering in the future are we gonna be able to port some of these features to the S2?
Possible? Impossible?
You're better off getting the S3
Absolutely should be able to. The SIII seem like more of marginal upgrade than I expected, so our phone should be capable of doing the little gimmicks they showed off. iLeopard, why bother posting? You didn't answer the question he asked at all.

Thats also a possibility, but seeing as how you can get a descent amount of money for the SII then perhaps jumping on the S3 bandwagon is a good idea.
i dont think the phone is such a huge step ahead of our phone in the hardware department. i agree that it seems like a marginal update, the software is what they demo'd the most, which should work fine on our phones.
also, the US Variants will probably not have the quad core exynos, so in that regard, it may be fairly easy to adopt the software on our devices.
I'm planning to buy the GS3, but the international one. I don't think it will be working with tmobile's 1700 band . I also won't settle for a us version like our GS2....

DONT WANT A BRICK? Check here

As of right now, the roms for your S3 are not meant to be used on other S3 variants. Bricks might happens or a soft one might happen. Before flashing a Rom make sure you are in the right development section an you read the entire op, twice. Until other devs or experienced users find a way to make them cross compatible, please refrain from using other carriers S3 roms.

I had to replace my device at that point; You're only able to access the Qualcomm download mode right now and unless someone has made a full rip of the AT&T/Rogers/Telus/Bell software using the Qualcomm tools, you're probably SOL. Not to mention that it's apparently very hard to find the Qualcomm download tools.

Me: I bought this earlier today and while I was setting up my Google account, it froze up and I had to pull the battery to get it unfrozen. Now it won't turn on and I just get a red light when I plug it in.

people need to slow down, stop being so excited and take a minute to actually get their bearings and UNDERSTAND what they are doing.
it seems so many people think this is all just child's play and nothing bad could possibly happen. as we have seen over the years, nothing could be further from the truth.
as android grows in popularity, so does the noobery, even though they are warned, they will still ignore the warnings and rules.

Sprint Samsung SPH-L900 (New Samsung Device - CONFIRMED as Galaxy Note 2!)

I was looking through some Samsung RDF's this morning and stumbled across a new unannounced phone!
For those that aren't familiar with an RDF they are the development and design specs for a given build on a phone. This one just happens to be for a phone that is not yet out or even announced! EDIT: I have now confirmed with a source of mine that this is in fact the RDF for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2!
Some of the cool things I found in the RDF?
Exynos4412 processor
1280x720 resolution
Android 4.1.1!
Support for EVDO, DOrA, WiFi and LTE!
2 GB RAM
16 GB HDD (with expansion slot up to 32 GB)
8 Megapixel camera
And more!
Honestly there's a ton of stuff in there and smarter minds than mine should be able to pull more out of it. This early in the RDF process I'm guessing that this is purely an engineering build and may not even be the final specs but still something to keep an eye out for!
Now for the fun stuff! FYI - The RDF is only viewable in Internet Explorer.
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-L900/LI2.rdf
Enjoy!
EDIT: Garwynn has pointed out that the Galaxy Note 2 has specs that are identical to that of the RDF. Check out this article from DroidLife for pictures and info.

Funny that you mentioned this. My guess is the Note 2.
Timing makes sense especially with these as context for it:

It was also announced last week that the Note 2 is coming to the US but no release date was given.
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/08/2...jelly-bean-and-1-6ghz-exynos-chip/#more-81015
Since we're probably not going to see a rework of the GS3 this year that's the only other possibility.
Specs match it to a T.

It was also announced last week that the Note 2 is coming to the US but no release date was given.

Since we're probably not going to see a rework of the GS3 this year that's the only other possibility.
Specs match it to a T.

Hopefully you guys will be able to confirm this in the near future... if you can get your hands on one...

You are the man! I totally didn't even think of the Note 2! I've updated the OP to show that as a possibility.

I REALLY hope this is the Note 2. Now the big question. When will it get here??? Will Jelly Bean still even be considered new when we see this phone.
More fuel for the fire... found a link to this on Sprint Communities:

"A source claims that similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3, the top four carriers in United States will offer the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Verizon Wireless, Sprint and AT&T will reportedly announce their LTE Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in October, and T-Mobile USA’s HSPA+ 3G Galaxy Note 2."

I definitely am... Been able to upgrade since last month. Waiting for this bad boy. Hope I don't regret my jump to non-QWERTY.

You won't - with swype, its so easy to type stuff that it makes little sense to have a qwerty phone these days.... just introduces a higher risk of some small component breaking.
Granted, there are some out there who can't live without a qwerty physical keyboard attached to the phone... but whatever... its only a matter of time.
I have just confirmed with a source of mine that the RDF we are looking at is in fact the RDF for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2!

Enjoy!
EDIT: Garwynn has pointed out that the Galaxy Note 2 has specs that are identical to that of the RDF. Check out this article from DroidLife for pictures and info.
