Sprint Samsung SPH-L900 (New Samsung Device - CONFIRMED as Galaxy Note 2!) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I was looking through some Samsung RDF's this morning and stumbled across a new unannounced phone!
For those that aren't familiar with an RDF they are the development and design specs for a given build on a phone. This one just happens to be for a phone that is not yet out or even announced! EDIT: I have now confirmed with a source of mine that this is in fact the RDF for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2!
Some of the cool things I found in the RDF?
Exynos4412 processor
1280x720 resolution
Android 4.1.1!
Support for EVDO, DOrA, WiFi and LTE!
2 GB RAM
16 GB HDD (with expansion slot up to 32 GB)
8 Megapixel camera
And more!
Honestly there's a ton of stuff in there and smarter minds than mine should be able to pull more out of it. This early in the RDF process I'm guessing that this is purely an engineering build and may not even be the final specs but still something to keep an eye out for!
Now for the fun stuff! FYI - The RDF is only viewable in Internet Explorer.
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-L900/LI2.rdf
Enjoy!
EDIT: Garwynn has pointed out that the Galaxy Note 2 has specs that are identical to that of the RDF. Check out this article from DroidLife for pictures and info.

Now we've got pictures of what appears to be a test model! Courtesy of our friend Sextape.

This phone will be a BEAST. iPhone 5 will hold.nothing to it...

Its another frequency similar to LTE. I tried to find some reading material and granted there's not much out there but here's some stuff I found.
LTE Handoff - A Mobile Perspective.pdf

Funny that you mentioned this. My guess is the Note 2.
Timing makes sense especially with these as context for it:
http://www.tmonews.com/2012/09/samsung-sgh-t889-coming-to-t-mobile-as-the-galaxy-note-ii/
It was also announced last week that the Note 2 is coming to the US but no release date was given.
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/08/2...jelly-bean-and-1-6ghz-exynos-chip/#more-81015
Since we're probably not going to see a rework of the GS3 this year that's the only other possibility.
Specs match it to a T.

I REALLY hope this is the Note 2. Now the big question. When will it get here??? Will Jelly Bean still even be considered new when we see this phone.

More fuel for the fire... found a link to this on Sprint Communities:
http://www.popherald.com/news_20120831_samsung_galaxy_note_2_jelly_bean_demo-19693
"A source claims that similar to the Samsung Galaxy S3, the top four carriers in United States will offer the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Verizon Wireless, Sprint and AT&T will reportedly announce their LTE Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in October, and T-Mobile USA’s HSPA+ 3G Galaxy Note 2."

You won't - with swype, its so easy to type stuff that it makes little sense to have a qwerty phone these days.... just introduces a higher risk of some small component breaking.
Granted, there are some out there who can't live without a qwerty physical keyboard attached to the phone... but whatever... its only a matter of time.

what about epic touch?
does anyone hear any news on our update?
We'll get it, just takes longer for the US variants.

Seeing that the E4GT is a GS2 device my guess would be yes it will.
The other sites reporting the same thing are saying Q2 of 2012 which means april-june which means we'll get it later than that.

True, we wont "officially" get it though. Android central thinks 2013 for the US versions

"While there's no official timeline, expect the updates to start rolling out early next year -- then again in 2013 for the US carrier versions. Yeah, I went there."
Right and in 2013 they will be rolling out Jellybean or Keish loll

Im sure well see ICS, our specs pretty much match the Nexus Prime.
I don't know if you guys are like me, but I'm not stressing updates. We have support from devs. Not like I'm gonna keep this phone forever. Phones become outdated after 6 months anyway. I'm hooked on Android like a junkie. So I always stay current with my devices.

I love the android platform, the open-ness, the developers, the support... just wish they would take a clue from apple and make sure our phones have the latest version when it drops. It isn't like it would take that long for the manufacturers to sit down and get it working. Look at the dev's we have...give THEM 2-3 weeks and they can build an AOSP rom... why cant Samsung?
There probably to busy blowin each other

There's a lot of stuff that people don't think about when it comes to these things.
Here's a developer on a phone:
1 guys (possibly a few guys) working on 1 phone or several phones with very, very similar specs (e.g. the Evo and the Incredible)
Samsung:
A whole bunch of guys working on 1: all the phones that are out (which is a few versions of touchwiz spanning 4 versions of Android now) plus all the phones in development.
It's not like we have our own software guy drawing a Samsung paycheck who works exclusively on our phone. Those guys are all busy with ICS on the Nexus Galaxy and whatever else they have on the burners cooking and will eventually probably get back to us.
Patience. People didn't think we'd get gingerbread on the Evo...then we did...then no one cared because we already had a bunch of gingerbread roms.
It'll be the same way here.
I love my Android because of the developers, not because the ****ty carrier support and lack of updates

You can't compare an evo with a Samsung product. Do you know the OGepic does not have official gingerbread yet. They have leaks but I tried them and they all are buggy. Plus being on sprint we have the cdma version of the phone. So when the European get their ICS we can't do a simple port.

Actually, Samsung does indeed have dedicated teams to support EACH phone. They have a Sustaining (or is it Sustainment?) Engineering department that allocates programmers and engineers to each phone model (i.e. the SGS1, SGS2, the Moment, etc..) each have their own team for continued support of the phone throughout it's life. Once the life of a phone reaches it's "end", then the team members are freed up and can then be assigned to the next phone that'll be released.
It's true that Touchwiz itself has it's own software team, but it's implementation and tweaks to make it compatible with a particular phone is done by dedicated teams.

Isc on the way!

I currently work for an indirect sprint store. I been waiting for the ISC update. Well today my regional manager from sprint came in. He said last night around 3 am he got an update for ice cream sandwhich, and its real. He doesn't hack his phone or anything. So just wait a little bit and its coming out. I can tell you that it doesn't have face recognition, but its alot faster than the gingerbread that was on there.
Pictures or it didn't happen. Just kidding. That's great news. Happen to remember the build number. Just wondering because the first update might not contain face recognition.

I want to get excited too. Should our excitement be tempered by the fact that our device is a modified version of the GS2? The hardware is very different from the regular GSII from what I understand. Can't that cause delays?
Everyone called me a troll when I said I was going to get pushed an update early a few weeks ago, hopefully it is true, we will see. With the maintenance release just coming out though, I find it hard to believe ICS is just around the corner. Two otas in such a short period does not make much sense.

Our excitement should be VERY tempered. OG Epic users went through the same thing when GB was leaked for the i9000 (the int'l galaxy s). This time the leak is for the i9100 (the int'l galaxy s 2). I would not anticipate it will be of much use for us.

The hardware is identical to the international and att Gs2 except for the radios. Its easier said than done to convert it to CDMA without samsungs source code.

pardon my ignorance but the addition of the LED, the larger screen (even the ATT version has a different size screen and the epic is certainly larger than the international version) and the processor also varies doesn't it? Do those differences not make difference?

Isn't the latest OTA dealing with the LOS and some other issues? I'd assume they can't really wait until the ICS and leave customers hanging that much longer with all the backlash.

the screen doesn't matter they are the exact same screen just different sizes. Processor, CPU, gpu, wifi/bt chip, dac are all identical.
The LED is as simple as a kernel that supports it and a rom that uses it.

I really hope we get some JellyBean goodness, if not, sprint can go shove it!
We will get official Jelly Bean. It's not happening right away, but it will happen.
Our phone is CDMA which is one major reason that we won't see an update as quickly as the international SGS2…
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
If its anything like the moment or epic, it will be when the phone is at its end of life and no longer sold in the stores. Oh, and it will probably be the last official youll see.
I don't expect to see a jelly bean update for this phone. I would genuinely be surprised if it sees official jb.
Although they said the sgsII that doesn't mean the epic 4g touch variant. More stuff to support and more stuff to go wrong that becomes sprints problem. Also, people would see how capable this exynos really is and not go get an sgs3, with the only differences being the screen and a 4g chip you're never gonna use anyway, because sprint wants the world to buy iphones. I'm getting off this sinking ship and switching to verizon asap.

The epic branding has been retired, its now the sph-d710 galaxy s2, Samsung has promised support for a minimum of 18months after release on all devices starting with the gs2 series so we will more than likely get official JB, and it won't take as long as ICS since the upgrade from ICS to JB isn't as intensive as from GB to ICS was. Samsung has sworn off carrier branded devices and starting with the sgs3 all devices will be nearly identical except for the few differences for network compatibility. Mostly radios and modems, otherwise hardware and software will now be as close to exactly the same as the original international variant and all devices will be available on all carriers as close to the same release date as possible.
We are legion, for we are many.

I'm trying to decide between the note 2 and the new nexus for my personal line, whichever I don't get for it ill be adding on my work line, ill prob be getting the sgs3 on my personal line and putting the et4g on my work line when the note 2 launches until my upgrade comes up in the beginning of Dec. My dads got the sgs3 and will be preordering the note 2 so ill get the sgs3 once his note comes in. That's one good thing about having a technophile for a dad he buys a new phone off contract everytime it drops and gives me his old one so i don't have to use up upgrades too often unless I want a nexus or something he hasn't bought yet. He's been sticking with Samsung since the et4g launched, which I'm fine with I got sick of dealing with HTC and their locked up bootloaders after the GB update on the og evo and after the moto photon I won't ever buy another moto device that thing sucked to try and mod, I can't go with a device that you have to sacrifice something to be able to flash

I wonder if we will get an updated TW. I think thats where a lot of problems are coming from.

Why are people saying that we won't have Jelly Bean? Samsung stated that they would support this phone for up to 18 months! Believe it or not Jelly Bean might be our last official update. I don't think they will go beyond 4.1.X :0

lol i hear that but id be happy if samsung leave they task killer tho i love it
They won't do a pure Android release of Jelly Bean I don't think because it would be too much of a change for regular people, even though most of us would love it. We will probably be able to get it through sprint id though. I wish they would change the colors in tw to stock Android blue though, so much better then green and white.

Hey Just passing this along. Idk if our phone will get the update but since the galaxy sII is on the list there is a good chance.

Yes....but i believe that when & if that day comes, theres gonna be a butt-load of sg2 users scrambling to get back to stock in a hurry. Ironic, cause the first update is pretty much what helped to cause the mad flash frenzy in the first place,(that & growing old waiting)

This has been done several times before ("How To" videos in Development threads, links below!), so this thread shouldn't be a problem. I have a Galaxy Note 2, and I will be doing SEVERAL videos on this device! I already made one on how to root, and I'll be making one on how to install a custom rom, going back to stock, and etc!

05/06/2012 UPDATE!
I'm going to do my FULL REVIEW of this phone tomorrow (Halo 4 kinda ruined today... Been playing it all day! Lol) THEN I'll do videos of roms and etc. People want me to keep the phone STOCK so that when I do my full review, I don't have an awesome rom speeding it up or etc. Not everyone wants to root their phone!
thanks going to view some of these

A little rough on me to switch from an HTC phone for the last 4 years, nothing too complicated, but I REALLY appreciate the video, and up so fast!

You're VERY welcome! I was determined to released the FIRST YouTube video on How To Root the Sprint Galaxy Note II, and I succeeded! I WILL BE doing videos of some of the roms currently available. I have a full time job, and get 3 days off each week. I have been going to bed and getting just a few hours of sleep lately, trying to get videos out on the days I work. I was working on my Galaxy S III video last night, and got it half finished. I'll finish it today before Dexter and The Walking Dead come on, then spend Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday making rom videos, and most importantly, how to flash stock! I will be making TONS of videos on the Note 2, but I have several other devices to make videos on as well.

I like your thinking! lol. This phone is full of so much win. Everyone around me laughs at it until they hold it and start playing with the Pen. Then they fall in love and start checking when their next upgrade is! lol
Sorry about the off topic I will delete this message and the answer but IS THE WALKING DEAD BACK ON? NEW SERIES??

YUP! It's on Season 3 on AMC, episode 3 I think! Season 1 and 2 is on Netflix!
I'm making a links page on my (hobby) site. I'll link to this thread or your videos if you don't mind. :good:
Wireless tethering, would you happen to have a working .apk or a how to video? Thanks and great videos my friend.

Sure, that would be awesome!
And the Tethering video someone else asked about, I'll work on that as soon as an option becomes available!
Added a new video to the OP for you guys! THIS ONE. When they release a 100% stock tar, I'll make a video on how to flash back to 100% stock using Odin. I also need to flash some of the roms that are currently available.
Great new video! like you, I'm waiting for the tether app to be updated. Does FlossyCarter have a review of the Note II too?
Do you recommend me selling my GS3 on ebay and then buying a Note 2? Also do you know if CM10 is available? I probably won't be flashing CM10 because I want the S-Pen features.
does that FoxFi app work with the Note 2....???

Josh thanks for the videos, they were an amazing aid to gaining root for someone that is definitely a noob. Ready to start customizing my new Note II now, thanks again.

Any idea when the 4.2 update might drop_

I am interested in the Note II. I currently have a 4S and with the lack of a jailbreak the i5 is not appealing to me... I tried before with the skyrocket but it was such a bad phone that I really hated it and went back to the 4S. I find this phone extremely capable... 4.2 bring certain updates that might mimic lockinfo for iPhone and that is one huge important piece on why I have stayed on the jailbroken 4S.
Any idea on when this update is scheduled to hit? I only recently saw that the 4.1.2 was leaked but it appears is NOT for the 7105.
This phone has a lack of custom Roms as most of them (all) are for the non LTE version.
Really like the DNA, but not available on AT&T and I want an LTE phone.
Thanks

Dont post questions in the dev section!
-No way to know when 4.2 is going to come for Note II. In fact, 4.1.2 official hasn't been out yet, only the leaked unofficial version.
-Some may agree and some may disagree with me, but you really don't need custom roms for this phone. The stock experience is excellent out of the box.
-The DNA does have LTE, but on Verizon.

True... you don't need custom rom with the plethora of stuff for it... just root it and be done... hence why I wanted the 4.2 version for the lockscreen info.
Until Google fix the SERIOUS problems in 4.2, I don't -want- it!

I have 4.2 on my Nexus. Nothing in it that I need over 4.1.2
There is no ability to disable lock screen widgets, they annoy the heck out of me.
Swype in the keyboard we already have.
Quick settings is a joke. If they were toggles they would be useful.
Nothing makes me want 4.2 over 4.1.2 right now.
