Hate to say it dude, don't think you are going to get many requests...if any on a phone created for a US carrier. If it was an international phone, maybe. Sorry.

true
If it's just for me then I'll slow things down. I like what I have and won't play until CM7 is out.

Thanks

I am using your ROM, and it Rocks, some people do not know the importance of Arabic because they don't use it, but we Multilingual people we indeed need it, keep up the good work JordanStar, you da man
When you come to Aqaba, I will hook you up.

Indeed
As they say هلا عمّي

Thank you brother, works great . Please don't be discouraged and keep doing a great job.

for those of u who need other languages on android, did u know all u need is a rooted phone and some font files? here: http://zedomax.com/blog/2010/03/21/...ll-thaiand-other-language-fonts-on-the-droid/

little more
Arabic font was already built in the system problem is that letters were not connected had to tweak lib web core and lib android and framework.jar then added another lib to allow support. Not sure how other languages work.

Are you doing this yourself, or is there a package used by all arabic roms from other phones?
Is there support for a different arabic font? The android one is looks more cartoony than the default IOS font.

Can you build the tweaked lib web core and lib android and framework.jar, and the added another lib into a zip file that can be patched using CWM? It will help downloading a small file instead of downloading the whole large file and maybe patch different ROMS.

Hmm...
I can create a patch file that can be flashed but the patch from my understanding is rom specific so you can try to flash it with another rom you would have to make sure you back up your nand and let me know how it goes.

How well does this work on the epic 4g? Is there something better?

This is the method i use, you should be able to do it on your own. you extract the lib files and the frame work, It will patch the files for you for you then you put them back in the folders you got them from and rezip it will also create a flashable zip that you can flash on top of a rom instead of flashing the whole rom. you can experiment with it.

The roms in the thread are for EPIC 4G Touch only , that is the new galaxy s that came out last week. But in the spirit of kindness i have cooked up a stock EPIC 4G (the old one ) system with arabic support. Place the zip file you download here on root of your memory card then You would backup your nand then wipe , then you flash the zip
Here is the Epic 4G Stock rom http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TDKOYSSZ

BTW you dont need to wipe everytime if you are upgrading as long its the same rom name , only wipe the first time or if you are using a different rom. These guys can be installed on top of each other.

Evo Rom with Arabic support

I searched everywhere for this but I don't seem to find any thing helpful. Is there an evo rom that support arabic fonts. Or a font pack that will do that for a rooted evo. Any help or thoughts will be appreciated, thanks
Yes, I would like to know this as well. Would be nice if there was a ROM that had this all packaged up already.
please bring arabic support to the evo 4g
The closest Rom so far I found that support Arabic is the experimental one from CyanogenMod but you have to apply the arabic libs from
http://bit.ly/cIE01W
It becomeS fully supported after pushing that zip file but I noticed it interfer with the camera and the calendar, could be more but that is what I found out so far, will keep searching, maybe something will float by the time Froyo is officially released for EVO

Since my last testing above, I haven't found a complete solution or a ROM that fully support Arabic. I just want to ask here if anyone has any updated info about this.
Finally
Finally a full arabic support thanks to this website
ardoid .com /?p=129 (remove the spaces)
download the zip file from this website and flash it over your rom.
Only works on Froyo 2.2 roms with sense.
I am using AVA V7 custom rom and flashed this over and now everything is perfect with full arabic support, No problems or any FC's (camera and calendar are working fine)
I also recommend that you download Dr.Ben0x Keyboard from the market so you can type in arabic, there are three arabic keyboard softwares on the market and this one the best of them all.
this arabic support is for free, but if you want to get right-to left alignment you should buy Arabic Android app from the market to unlock that feature

Thank You Alhail99, I have tested the arabization pack on that link directly to my Current senseless Rom :
[ROM]EVO-NonSense(UPDATED 9/16)AOSP Elements,OTA 3.28.651.1,App2SD,Epic&DroidX theme LINK.
1. Reboot to recovery
2. Did a Nand Backup (safety measure to restore if the following fails)
3. Flash Zip from SD (froyo_evo_libs_arabic_android_plus_signed.zip in the root SD card)
4. Reboot
Worked perfect. Thank you again, Now I can read my emails, Youtube, internet.
for the keybaord I was using Ibrahim keyboard from the market, it is free

All working good, I have downloaded the pack and also purchased the right to left alignment from the market (ardoid) but I have noticed that it works 90%, for example in the email I can read what comes in fine and type fine but when I send it, it displays the title in a weird format. ( pic attached).

... thank you so much alhail99 & Adel_2 for your input on bringing arabization to our beloved Evo phones... i just wanted to calrify this important point:
my Sprint's evo is rooted to froyo 2.2 but i have no rom installed, therefore, here is what i did to install the arabization file which alhail99 provided us:
1. After downloading the Arabization libs from the mediafire link
2. Drag to your Evo SD card
3. Power off your evo then Reboot to recovery
4. Once there, use "volume down" botton to select unzip file from SD card
5. Use "power" botton to select the downloaded file
6. Let your evo do the work, when finished reboot
7. Done!!
... a couple important notes:
1. I downloaded Dr.Ben0x Arabic Keyboard from the Market (free), and it's working
perfectly
2. You'll need to buy "Arabic Android" app ($6.99) from the market in order to get
the right-to-left alignment feature, which i haven't done but planning on doing
soon
Again.. thanks for evrything!!
i flashed this and didn't have to buy that app..... everything works after flashing
Hello there,
After doing an OTA software update to version 3.70 (from ver 3.30), Arabic on my EVO does not work anymore. I contacted Mr. Ayman (the developer), he never replied nor updated the Arabic.
I bought his $7 RTL and now I can not use Arabic. I wasted few dollars and that is no problem, but what is a shame is our Arabic developers just do half ass job and leave us users just up in the air.
This is just my opinion. I hope Ayman will read this post and do something about it since he did not care about several users that have the same problem over his web site. THANKS.

It seems that it is a more thorough way of clearing the cache memory.. Wiping dalvik should also speed up the phone.. Weather it is noticable or not I am not sure.. But I flash my roms like that, and it always boots..
so could Dalvik be cleared anytime? or would you only recommend doing it after flashing rom?

Don't mean to interrupt but just wanted to point out :
Clearing dalvik does not make your system faster, if anything it makes it slower (only at initial startup). The whole point of dalvik is to keep a bytecode of every apk on your phone so it can execute them faster than loading the .dex from the apk everytime.
As for clearing it upon flash, it could possibly be a good idea, although id recommend doing something like
rm -rf /data/dalvik-cache/*[email protected]*
This will keep your regular apps intact and just re-create the bytecode's for the system apps. Now mostly if a dex is inconsistent, android will automatically create a new one. You can confirm that in the log.
Thanks Daneshm90 for clearing that up for me..
where would you suggest that "rm -rf /data/dalvik-cache/*[email protected]*" is included ??
I will add thanks to you in the 1st post also as your signature helped me out greatly.

Im not sure if it can be done through edify/ammend syntax.
I know though you could write your own script with the line i mentioned above. Call it say clear_dalvik
Then in your updater-script call
run_program("clear_dalvik");
I`m will try it now
10ks tricky for new rom
give you report
First, thanx for a wonderful background pic of the horsehead nebula.
Second, Sweet with a slim ROM, better to start with Ultra-slim and then add what you want then build in everything, we all want different things in a ROM, you probably want English dictionary, I want English and Swedish, good, then I add Swedish myself, "that other dude over there" may be from Denmark and want Danish, cool, then he adds Danish, "she over there" may be from Japan, cool, she adds Japanese(we all probably want English as well), most of us got totally different preferences.. But I have to say, Ultra slim is good as a start
Will test out this ROM a bit later(tomorrow or so), but posting here so I get notifications of updates.
Yeah, tangerine

[MOD] Arabic + RTL reading/writing for the SGS2

RTL - Right to left support.
I have recompiled the webkit files for our SGS2 to support arabic shaping. This thread will serve to help you folks arabize (shaping arabic texts) any deodexed rom out there (well, except MIUI based ones).
Framework.jar (and libwebcore.so):
patching framework.jar will give you arabic shaping + RTL support everywhere except the browser and gmail, while patching libwebcore.so will give you RTL + arabic shaping support in the Browser + Gmail apps.
Please go to my website for instructions and detailed howto: (Scroll down for English)
http://blog.devasque.com/?page_id=11
note1: V0.810 will attempt to give you RTL + Arabic shaping in the Browser as well. Please follow the new guidelines at the blog. (using brightidea's work)
note2: On our Samsung Galaxy S2 device, arabic letters might come garbled at some locations. For that, you need to replace a font which is listed below.
libwebcore.so
Note: if you used v0.810 for my universal patcher, replacing libwebcore.so from this section manually may be unnecessary as the universal patcher attempts to arabize this file as well. (make sure you follow the new guidelines in the blog)
This file is responsible for shaping arabic texts in the Browser and Gmail apps. Just replace the file in /system/lib with this one and you should get arabic shaping out of the box. You'll need root to change this file.
Gingerbread 2.3.3 (CWM Flashable):
http://www.multiupload.com/E2URI45F1I
Gingerbread 2.3.4 (CWM Flashable): Files created by brightidea. Thank you
This does NOT work on KG1 ROMs
http://www.multiupload.com/FEMKZ90OYS
I highly recommend trying the solution by brightidea in this sister thread for all other devices and ROM versions.
Font
This file is required for our phone. Not using it will give you spacing issues when displaying arabic text.
Note that you can't use any arabic font on the galaxy s2. This will most definitely crash your browser+gmail app. Use only stock samsung fonts or this one (my own ):
Place the file in /system/fonts/ and reboot.

For deodexing (its a bit of an advanced topic now, and it seems Camera.apk is force closing, so do it at your own risk).
this is the link :

You already have the deodexed files. just follow the last section in green.

set the permissions correctly like you did before and reboot see if it fixes the cam app. this doesn't work
I should be receiving my phone anytime from tomorrow up to beginning of next week depending on dhl's mood. haha
pm me if you want to try more of those Camera.apk files depending on the bootclasspath, I'm getting different apks for Camera. One of em should surely work.

Porting Information and Credits
Virtuous Unity, or any components therein, may not be ported to other devices without explicit email approval from the development team. We will be approving ports, presuming the develop of a given port is ready and willing to follow the same revision control and release processes currently employed existing devices.
hrk - Allowing use of ghostySMS Vision version.
cypis - For his awesome Unity-banner
robocik - Tips regarding APK compression.
Sybregunne - Virtuous Overclock Controller GUI.
HTC/Google- For building such a good base system.
Important Notes
If you are experiencing random freezes and/or reboots, this is likely due to your device being incapable of handling our overclocking defaults. Download and apply this flashable patch, which will reduce the maximum CPU frequency to 1Ghz and likely eliminate this issue.
You must complete a full wipe prior to installing this ROM the first time. We also recommend wiping between upgrades, but you are welcome to try upgrading without a wipe. However, no support will be provided if you file a bug without having wiped prior to submission.
Bugs and Errors
To ease the process of reporting bugs to the team, we made a public bugtracker where you can report the bugs you found. Please make sure you read all the existing entries there to avoid doubling the errors.
The bugtracker is located here.
Download :: Changelog :: More Information(Official Website of Virtuous ROM)
Download Patch to v1.31.x to v1.31.3
(Fixes: In-Call Mic, Mobile Data, Boot Loops, Voice Search)
Update Radio, Touchpad Firmware, Clockwork Recovery
This is the firmware which accompanies the FOTA. You can apply the update before or after installing the ROM. If you're having trouble flashing the ROM in the first place, then apply this first.
Download this PG32IMG.zip (MD5:de10c06482eaf9b3d0d058b607e2568c)
Place it on your sdcard.
Reboot into the bootloader. There are many ways to do this: Run 'adb reboot bootloader' or power down the device completely, hold the volume down and hold the power button to turn it back on.
Select bootloader from the menu.
You will see a green verification bar along the right side of the screen, push volume up when prompted to verify the update.
Profit.
Current Known Issues (updated 8/2/2011, 9:00PM PST)
Some users stuck in reboot loops. (Fixed in v1.31.2).
MMS not working. (See post #3 for a workaround)
Voice Search causes a crash. (Fixed in v1.31.2)
Visual voicemail is absent and will not install from the Market. (Invalid, could not reproduce)
I'll start working on these. I'm fairly convinced the boot loop issue is kernel related. It's the most critical of the 3 and the one I'll focus on first.
Instructions to fix MMS (by xelsewherex)
Go to the market and download apn backup and restore (Market Link APN B&R).
Create a folder on your sdcard named APNBackupRestore if it doesn't exist already.
Copy this file to APNBackupRestore folder (If you aren't doing this on desktop, hit menu now in xda and choose browser. File is an xml and your phone will not know what to do with it. Long press the link and use 'save link').
Run APN Backup Restore and press Delete Apns and then Restore from the downloaded file.
You should be good to go from there. MMS should now work and the softkey lights do as well.
Nice!! Downloading now!
Good job rmk!

I have a silly question but when u flash a new Rom. And it comes with its own kernel. Such as this one. When u decide to revert back to ur original Rom does it also flash ur original kernal back or does that have to be flashed separately in itself? Sorry for the trivial question I assure ya I'm not a complete noob
So this is diffrent then the last version ? Anyone test this out yet ?

Your kernel will be what came with either Rom stock. Reverting to old Rom will also revert to the kernel that came with said Rom

I disagree, especially when I can't stand the Rosie launcher. That is why I mostly run AOSP ROMs but to each his own. I do like elements of Sense 3.0 though.

Suggestions if you are taking any.
Yes and if you taken the time and effort to create an odin version, why not put GB bootloaders in it as well instead of making ppl flash XXJVR first and then this if they are coming from Froyo. Might be a good idea to provide a cwm recovery flashable version for ppl who are already on GB rom's. Not everybody is next to the computer when they flash new ROM.
one last thing, you fixed on kvr but missed this

Installed kernel TalonDEV 0.4.3 ... working great.
I also installed the theme GingerWay BlueOcean (I had to make my own install script to make it work).
Seems to be a little bit laggy, compare to my previous JVQ (Criskelo V77) with same kernel ... I then put lagfix and now it's much better (even if I thought that lagfix was obsolete on newer GB ROMs ...).
