Galaxy Nexus Case-Mate Barely There Review

Hey everyone,
I've seen a couple of people say they received their Barely There cases, but no pictures or reviews. I attempted to contact Case-Mate via twitter along with others to ask when they were selling it since the case was already being sold through 3rd party channels. They stated those must be "preorders" as the cases aren't ready.
Well - I ordered one of these supposed "preorders" on eBay and the case arrived today... so much for Case-Mate knowing what's going on with their own product.

I'd like to make it a point that I believe this was indeed made for the Verizon version since it just doesn't fit quite as tight and fitted as every previous Barely There case I have purchased. It's not a BAD fit, but it just isn't perfect. If you have any questions, let me know.
** Update **
After using the case for a bit, I have to say I am simply not satisfied with the fit. The phone doesn't feel right with this case and the difference in fit between the GSM and VZW version is too much for me. The fit just isn't nice enough to justify the price.

Thanks for the review. Was thinking of picking one of these up, but now that I know the 3rd-party vendors are selling the Verizon version, I'm going to wait until Case-Mate (hopefully) officially releases a GSM version.

Interesting I just received my pre order from Clove in the UK and it does seem as if it should be for a slightly thicker phone. It sticks up about 1mm around the sides of the screen. Checked the box and it says GSM version.
Not used these cases before any previous users, is this normal?

I can't speak for this case, but my buddies who have Casemates Barely There for their phones always tell me one of the features of the case is to offset it if placed face down to protect the screen

Have a look at this listing I found on eBay:

That probably answers why the case wasn't snug fitting, it's made to accommodate the larger size of the i515 for Verizon.

I'm using one that I ordered from thecellguru and I don't see any issues with it. I'm definitely not worried about the phone coming out of the case accidentally and wouldn't really say that it fits loose.
The case does have a bit of a lip coming up higher than the screen, but most cases have that so in the event that you drop it screen-down the case will take some of the impact.
All in all I'm quite happy with the case, it has a good texture, not sticky/rubbery, is very thin and adds little bulk to the phone.

Its just slightly loose, and leaves small gaps for dust/dirt to creep in... Its a shame because these barely there cases are the best. Hopefully there will be a GSM 9250 variant in the future.
For Verizon GN users, this will be a great case. For GSM its just decent.

I have to say that after trying it for a bit I am rather disappointed with the fit. The phone is just too easy to flick off the case and doesn't feel nice and fitted like an authentic fitted Barely There case fits.
I can't recommend this for GSM GN's for the price.

Wonder if this case would work well with the extended battery, I'm thinking about getting the 2100 mah battery from VZ.

I want one of these but I dont think I will be getting this soon. I want it to be snug and fitting, how it should be.

I have the actual 'Barely There' case and I'm not completely satisfied with it. The fit doesn't feel or look right on the phone. I'm pretty sure if I ever dropped the phone the case would come flying off easily.

Same... I dunno what everyone is freaking out about. I bought mine at best buy and I'm glad its not too tight. I plan on taking mine on and off so if its too tight it could wear the sides down.

Cool cases?

So does anybody know where I can get a cool case for my GNex? The iPhone has so many awesome ones and all of the ones for the Nexus are boring. I prefer TPU cases but if the case is awesome enough, it won't matter.
I've already seen the cases that have the Android pattern on the back, and I'm certainly not interested in cases that have large flowers on them. I've gone to so many different sites but still, no luck.

I never said that it was a major problem. I actually hate iPhones. The only thing I envy is the selection of cases. I have owned literally every Droid that Verizon has/had to offer. I'm the biggest Android fanboy ever.

The only problem is that I have a CDMA Nexus, and those probably wouldn't fit well.

unfortunately, the reason you see so many "cool" iPhone cases is you have one size phone. size "fragmentation" is hurting each android phone.. but, yeah, if you look, there are some pretty nice cases out there.
Although, I do wish I could get a BookBook for my Nexus....

The phone itself is cool enough, it doesn't need a cheap case to make it cool.

New Galaxy Nexus Owner

I have recently purchased a new GN and I am waiting for it to arrive. I wanted to go ahead and buy a case for it(thinking hard about S-Line TPU Wave) but I have a quick question. The S-Line Waves on Amazon all say(Verizon) or (Verizon Wireless) beside them. Are the dimensions different for GSM/CDMA phones? Or will any Galaxy Nexus case fit any Galaxy Nexus? Thanks. Also, any S-Line TPU Wave case owners care to offer an opinion? I saw the review here on the sticky, and it seems like exactly what I want.

The Verizon/Sprint version is about 0.5 millimeters thicker than the GSM version, but generally generic Galaxy Nexus cases will fit on both versions. I found this version on Amazon, I think it is the one you are referring to: (just copy the following and search for it on amazon, XDA won't let me post links)

The description says that this case is for the i9250, which is the code for the GSM version, and the phone shown in the picture appears to be a GSM Nexus, so I think it would be a good fit for your new phone.

So what do you guys think? Has anyone seen one yet? I know its a bit pricey, but i really liked the bumper on the N4 and think google/lg nailed it. I am considering buying this one, but the black is not available. Does anyone know if it just sold out really quickly or if only the gray was available at launch?

yeah i thought that was strange too, as the n4 bumper was actually a bumper and this is clearly a full case.

I think they are over priced personally.

Shows £24.99 and "coming soon" in the UK. FFS Google why can't you get the accessories to us in good time. The UK didn't even get the wireless charge dock in the end.
Can someone confirm this is actually available to buy in the US?

I wasnt a huge fan of the oem bumper for the n4, only due to the fact that it left part of the metal ring visible on the top and bottom of the front of the phone. It didn't quite look like it fit correctly.
I did however love the poetic bumper, it fit perfectly, it was a bit thinner, and matched the phone almost as if there was no case at all.
Amazon already has the poetic up for pre order and shipping date of November 19 I believe. I've got one on order, and will post pictures when it arrives.

I really like the look of the official cases especially with the nexus logo intact. I'm part of the minority and like the thinnest case possible like the rearth slim or spigen ultra fit. This official case looks like a nice compromise between the "super thin barely any protection" cases and the thicker "add too much bulk more protective" cases. Definitely pricey though.
I've had the spigen neo and was very disappointed. El cheapo imo. Rearth Ringke has been my favorite cases so far

yeah i was able to get the gray one too, but i didnt like the color and wanted the black one. I havent seen anyone say they were able to grab a black one yet

No way I would buy that.
The image for the black bumper uses a GNex and does not really show anything about the bumper.
The image for the white bumper uses a Nexus 5 render without the bumper on it.
The description says it is for all carriers, including Verizon, on which the N5 does not work.

It would have been great to get an actual bumper case like the Nexus 4 had but I think I'll still get the official "bumper" for the Nexus 5. I'm a sucker for OEM fit and finish as well as I like how it still displays the NEXUS logo on the back.
The price is ridiculous though. I hope the carriers offer it in store when they launch the phone so I don't have to get ripped off with shipping as well.

I think it's difficult to make a true bumper for the Nexus 5 because the back is curved. Nexus 4, iPhone... Those are phones with flat backs. Regardless, I think the case looks nice, but is a bit pricy.

the official "bumper" case is expensive. but i'm guessing the "nexus" branding is what makes it worth it to a lot of people.
if you cover up your phone with any other case it just looks like any other phone and not like a beastly nexus. but now your vanity can be satisfied with a case that clearly states for all to see... NEXUS.

wished google made official one like that but in RED!

The official bumper looks quite appealing, and it looks like it extends past the camera. My only concern is the buttons. In-house cases that the phone company comes out with are notorious for having hard button covers. Guess we'll just wait for video reviews on that.

Nexus 5 Wallet Case

Does anyone have recommendations on any Nexus 5 wallet cases? From when I had an iPhone, I always had the book-book case so I am used to carrying my phone and my creditcards/cash in the same case. It just seems that there are no good options out there. I actually ordered this one (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FQJ1GJ4/ref=oh_details_o00__i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) but even though it shows up as in stock, I ordered and still hasnt shipped. Now the vendor has canceled the order since they are no informing me that it is now back-ordered.

I had those 2 models with my HTC One. The first one, the leather stitching started fraying a week after use. The 2nd one, the clasp fell out after a month or so. I am looking for something high quality. I dont mind paying along the price of the book-book.

There is also that, I dont expect to see much really high quality cases though. Nexus dont have near the market share of iPhone/Galaxy lines.

Check out the Watson Folio cases by Incipio. Hopefully they'll roll one out.
Tuff-luv made a nice looking brown leather case for the Nexus 4, so hopefully they'll do the same here.
And maybe Spigen will do a "Slim Wallet" design for the Nexus 5.

Protenzo makes some really nice cases.
They are working on the nexus 5 cases now. No eta though, otherwise i have the nerd herder gadget wallet which is nice. Its a little thick but nice.

Tuff-luv told me in an email that they expect to have stock by the end of November. On Twitter, it's the end of December.
In the meantime, I've ordered:

It does have 3 5* reviews though.... Shame it is in the UK and not in the US. Oh well, the one I bought will be here on Tuesday.

What I do minimize the wear and tear on flip/wallet cases is to use voice announce and shake call. No need to open the case as often.

I have the ringke nexus 4 case... Not real leather and decayed badly in less than 12 months... Tempted to buy it again, remove the plastic holder, find a leather wallet and make my own.
How hard is it for these guys to make brackets and simply stick them on a genuine leather wallet?

Has anyone found a wallet case that doesn't have the flip/cover? I've been searching for one similar to an iphone case and it just seems that case makers aren't making them non-iphones

Cost....
People are usually happy buying $10-$15 cases. Real leather in a case would shoot the price up north of $30 and there just aren't a lot of buyers at that price range (relatively speaking).
As to other cases, I did get a reply from Zenus (http://izenus.com/) and they are planning a Nexus 5 case for early December.

Dodo makes nice wallet cases.. I had them for my Moto X and absolutely loved them. They make for Nexus 4 so hoping they will make one for Nexus 5 soon.
