random messages? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

flashed eagle's rom.
love it.
everything works well but ever since i flashed, i get random messages when i text people looking like the attached file below.
i try downloading them because i thought they were mms files but they don't ever open. i end up asking the person if they texted me anything or mms-related stuff but they said no.
it's getting pretty annoying seeing this at least twice a day from each person that i text.

i think that is the typical SMS converted to MMS bug some people have been complaining about.

when it actually is a mms you keeping hitting download and eventually it will... if it happened to be an sms it just disappears after a couple times of hitting download.
Note: this is in my experience and not official but only my observation.

It happened to me. I switched to GO SMS Pro, and now the downloads are instant.

Threaded SMS sending same message multiple times

Has anyone else noticed that their SMS's are automatically sent more than once. Yesterday a message I sent in the morning was re-sent 5 times, I didnt notice until the person receiving them asked why Id sent the same one multiple times.
I checked the Thread, the message sent time had been updated to the latest time even though that was after the next set of messages in the thread.
I looked in the Sent Box which is obviously empty in the threaded view, then in the Outbox, the message was still in there, it took a few attempts to delete it but I managed to get there in the end.
Anybody else noticed this?
Im using a home grown 6.1 using the pandora 9b1 kitchen...
i didnt notice this precise issue but i hated the way there was no message in sentbox and the sent message stayed in outbox for ages so reverted to ordinary texts
I'm not sure, but it might be related to the issue seen by the guys using the Palm 's Threaded SMS app... They have a theory over there that it's related to closing the app immediately...[post=1441023]
I had similar problem, when something happend with my 3G connection. Sometimes it stuck. I can't make a call, and no one can call me. ( 3G icon appears )And when i try to send sms, it stuck for a while, and then sends few sms's in the same time...

Texts are all mixed up

I remember this happening to my rooted g1 with the slow and sort of crappy sense ui installed; so when my wife complained that her text messages on her Slide dont go in order i was shocked that the problem STILL exists.
I didnt see a thread about it here, sorry if i missed it. Anyone else have text message conversations where the texts are out of order? Phone is stock btw
I appear to have that same problem too, but I'm using stock Android right now. If we have the same problem I can elaborate on it more.
My problem seems to be that if I get a text message reply from someone and it's in the same minute as the last text message I sent the person, their text will go above mine, even though they sent their's after I sent my text.
So for example: I send a text to somebody at 3:20:15PM and that person sends a text to me at 3:20:55PM, their text will go above my 3:20 text, making it look like they sent the message first.
I had this problem as well, before my phone was rooted and even after. The only solution i have found is to install a different SMS app, which i use Handcent because its the closest to the stock app, and its free.
interesting, my wifes is stock and she said it happened with texts that were no more than a minute apart as you mentioned.
i just cannot believe this is still a problem. Sense UI is neat but this sure seems like a fundamental feature that shouldnt have such issues...
same thing has been happening to my texts, before and after root.
i can say the same thing happens to me also

[Q] Delayed Text Messages?

I don't think this has been asked yet, but I get really delayed text messages. I'll be texting people and I sometimes I won't get the texts 30 - 45 minutes after they send it for whatever reason. This has been an issue for me since day one with the phone. I have had this issue on multiple ROMs, and I have had this issue and Illinois, and I'm having it again in Arizona. I know people text me back because sometimes I'll be talking to them on Facebook and they'll confront me and say;
Them: "Thanks for texting back."
Me: "What do you mean?"
Them: "I just texted you five minutes ago."
*25 minutes later,*
Me: "Hey I got your text."
Them: "Kbye."
Does anybody else get this issue? I've called Sprint about it and they tell me a Profile Update will fix it. Today was my fourth time calling and I told them to not even try and give me a Profile Update. Also, I disabled/uninstalled my Stock MMS application because I use GOSMS, but this has been happening way before that, even when I used to use the Stock MMS application with no 3rd party application installed. This is especially annoying because these last couple of days I Tether. I understand that while Tethering, I can't get phone calls or texts, but sometimes I don't get texts until 2, 3 hours after my Tethering application (Barnacle) has been killed with the pre-installed Task Manager.
Is there anyway to solve this?
This happened to me over the weekend here in MA. Sprint might be having some issues with growing pains?
Yes I have gotten some 10 mins late as well

If Barnacle is slightly a culprit, why not eliminate it completely? Or. Don't use it for some days, see if the delay persits, and on a positive note, after you tether, REBOOT your phone, it will allow your Cell Radio to send/retrieve pending texts that were delayed from your tether, instead of 5 hours later, they should be coming in shortly after the boot. You're welcome. =)
P.S. Please don't take offence or feel arrogance towards my comment on eliminating Barnacle, what I meant by that was to try out WifiTether. Lol.

I know you said the problem petsisted before removing the stock messaging app, but I recommend leaving it installed. It isn't uncommon for people to have problems after removing it and only using a 3rd party app.

I've had this problem all last week. I am not using any third party apps, just the stock sms.

Like arrows83 said, I had the same problem multiple times with the Stock MMS application.
This Is Bad ..
Im having the exact same problem EXCEPT:
If I send a message and wait until the "sending" under the actual message changes to the time the message was sent, it'll send.
Other than that, if I don't wait and say for instance go to my fb app, the message doesn't send until 20 - 30 mins later.
All that are having text issues, this isn't a permanent remedy, but in case of important texting where you need the texts and you have issues, just hold down the power, deactivite data, and let your messages send/receive via 1x. It'll go through smoothly.

Disappearing text messages

I've noticed an issue on my Galaxy Nexus (Stock Rooted 4.0.4, VZW) where randomly a text message will disappear.
I don't have any idea what is causing it and its so sporadic, it happens maybe once every 1,000 texts.
The only way I know I'm even missing a text is if I see it appear in the notification bar but not be there when I go into the messaging app (Using stock messaging) or, because I have mightytext installed, I'll see the message forwarded to my browser but I'll notice its gone from my phone.
I was able to pull a logcat after it happened most recently, so if someone thinks they would be able to decipher some information from it, let me know.
I'm posting because I'm wondering if I'm the only one seeing this issue or if others are in the same boat.
Thanks in advance and let me know if anyone would like some more info...I've been trying to nail this thing down for months now.
You're welcome to put it up on pastebin or something and post it, but I would first eliminate MightyText as the first possible problem. Uninstall it and see if it still happens.
I had the same problem when still on 4.0.2 stock, unrooted. Only ever used the stock messaging app. It happened very sporadic, with the same symptoms you described.
Messages popped up in notification bar but could be nowhere to be found in messages app.
Since upgrading to 4.0.4 it never happened again, or at least I didn't notice.
As you are on 4.0.4 already, that's probably not comforting.

Yeah, it happens so infrequently that I'm not surprised you haven't noticed it since updating, but nice to know someone else has the same issue.
Do you have mighytext installed or can we rule that out as a culprit?
Do you have any SMS Backup applications installed?
If not, I recommend the "SMS Backup +" by Jan Berkel.
Works amazing on my ICS.
Does backups of SMS, MMS and Call Logs (if you want.)
Yes, I do have that installed, but thats not really relevant to the issue I described here.
Thanks.

Sorry - I realized I never finished my train of thought. Got "distracted" as someone walked into my office.
To continue, when your texts disappear from your phone, do they also disappear from your Gmail SMS label?
As per every 1000 texts - I assume you get a TON of texts per day?
I ask - because my cousin who is a promoter also gets/sends 1000's of text messages a week, and he made a funny comment yesterday about how some of his incoming texts "vanished."
He doesn't have SMS Backup+, so I couldn't verify it for him at the time. I'm wondering if you and him have the same problems?
Regards,
var
I also have SMS Backup + installed, but not Mighty text. When a disappearing text arrived, it never even had a time to kick in, even though I'm on wifi and it's said to backup upon arrival. The text is just gone, right after the notification vanishes.
But hard to investigate as it happens really very sporadic... And yup, I get hundreds of messages each day in a developing country, where sometimes also sms are not delivered, so everybody knows and it's not that big of a problem.

MMS issues

My wife and I have been having issues with group texting since we got these phones. What usually happens is she'll receive a MMS and it won't download. I'm coming from a Nexus 6 and she from an HTC One M8, but for some reason it's much worse on her phone than it is on mine. We activated the SIM card that came with the phone. We've tried all the obvious things: resetting APNs, clearing data on the messaging app, using a different app, trying with VoLTE on and off (which I heard worked with the Z3). There's been an open ticket with T-Mobile for two weeks which hasn't really gone anywhere. It seems to happen no matter who the group text originates from. We have both iPhones and Androids in the chat.

Same issue. Looks like the most common factors here are G4 and iPhones.

The issue is only with group texting.
TWN H815 here. Group texting is not supported on the stock messaging app, so I'm using Google Messenger. It has happened to me a couple of times, after upgrading to v10b. The only way I got the messages to download was to turn off WiFi.
I'm glad you decided to REACH out and ask. At least you don't feel like an OUTSIDER. Maybe its an ANOMALY. I'm not sure but when you figure it out i hope you just tell those who don't want you to fix it, "I'm a just do it!"
If you don't understand what I'm talking about let me know. I'll have my boy Andy Mineo give you a call. He's the kind of guy that always says "you can't stop me!"

Did you get anywhere with this? I've tried stock messenger, hangouts, and now textra. At least in hangouts/stock I'd get the message to download; in textra the message just doesn't come through. It seems to originate from:
1) Group MMS
2) First message in a new group
3) Message was sent from an iPhone
4) Pictures especially, but text seems to do it as well
If these conditions occur, I never get the message. Frustrated that it happens but not sure what to do. H811 on TMobile.

Nope, never got anywhere. Tmobile replaced my phone and my wife's phone and they do the same thing. Super annoying.... May end up switching phones cuz the quirks are adding up.

And we never get the message to download. If it prompts us to download the message it never comes in.

Does it only fail while the phone is on WiFi? If so change the option in the texting app to switch on data for mms. Textra and Handcent have this I believe.
I have the same issue, some mms, both picture and group text will either not download or just never show up.

Related I guess, but group messaging doesn't appear to work properly on the stock messaging app
Nope group messaging on my tm g4 is so bad. I've tried almost everything and it still won't download pics
I have this issue occasionally with Hangouts. I will get an mms that did not download from a contact (that should be part of an on-going group message) but it will not download. WiFi or LTE does not seem to matter. When on WiFi, the LTE symbol pops up in the notification bar for a second or so. For me, this only occurs to one out of 30-40 group messages. A minor annoyance, but annoying all the same.
I have not had this problem on any other device when using Hangouts. I had an immediate distaste for the stock message app, so i cannot corroborate that the issue occurs there.

It's happening regardless of SMS client. I've tried stock, Hangouts, Textra, etc and the issue persists across all of them. Mine happens much more frequently too unfortunately, same for my girlfriend.
This is getting insane
I gave up and switched phones unfortunately. Was part of a long thread and me and my wife got every last message. Amazing seeing it work correctly!

Did Tmo take the phones back, or did you sell them privately?
