[Q] HTC Ttouch Pro II, Fixing And Asking. - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hi...
I am not new to this part of the forum and I have searching for long time for an answer to my question.
My device stopped working, so i did a little researched on the forum (like it says on the rules) and figured that my flex cable made the problem.
Ordered one on Ebay and got it.
Today i fixed my phone and it's working (BTW it's T7373), but i noticed that on the cable there is a front camera :O and the phone still working.
Will I be able to use the camera ???

In WinMo, probably. But for what? I'm not sure what use the front cam is in WinMo.

i thought maybe on android with skype...

This is the general section, IE WinMo.
Android barely supports the back cam. Not sure if the front cam will ever be functional...

So that when you take those lame self pics that everyone likes to do (probably looking slightly up at the phone/camera) you can make sure that you see that the pic is centered properly.

Does your device even have a pin hole for the camera to fit in the front housing? I'm not 100% certain, but only the unlocked and international versions had the hole in the front housing that could seat the camera. Other models had the opaque front panel. My point is that if you didn't have the front camera to begin with, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to use it now.

if you ever open the HTC Touch Pro II version you will know that a Flex Cable with front camera won't fit (because there was a Flex Cable without camera before).
So what i did was simple there are 2 plastics like this | | and i took them out.
like this phone was designed to be with front camera in the future like the Sprint version.

I understand that part. I was questioning the opaque front panel of the device in the top right corner where the camera would normally go. I'll illustrate with an image below.

Wouldn't you need to replace the front panel in order to even get an image from the front camera?

I have Touch Pro 2 (T7373, rhod100) and i have front camera which work in windows mobile. In GSM 3G (UMTS) network it can make video calls.

On stock ROMs, it's activated only in the dialer AFAIK. No option to switch in the camera app that I've seen. Video calls are based on the network, though. US carriers don't allow any WM devices to send 3G video calls.

Yea, I originally thought about going with a European model for the front camera, but we found out that all four big US carriers had the video call option blocked. Either way, the VGA front cam isn't very good for video calling or anything at all, for that matter.
EDIT: Another fun bit is that video calling over 3G is worse overall on CDMA than on GSM, due to the technical qualifications of 3G. CDMA classifies 3G as data speeds at or above 100Kbps, which is technically correct according to the definition of 3G. GSM classifies that within EDGE data speeds. For us, it's more like 2.5G. This difference maintains for GSM, a higher QoS for data intensive duties done over 3G/HSPA, by limiting the lower end of the data stream to 350-500Kbps. For me, it doesn't really make a difference other than to serve as bragging rights in my area about how my EDGE speeds are faster than Sprint's 3G speeds most of the time.

If T-Mobile actually has service in your area, they're even cheaper. Pair that $30 unlimited text/data package from Walmart with Google Voice to get a complete Unlimited plan for a whopping $30. T-Mobile doesn't even have 3G where I currently live (I'm not in New Orleans currently). Their EDGE speeds are plenty fast enough.
I've also been with them for 7 or 8 years now out of contract, so I still pay the same $50 a month for everything. It costs $30 for 1000 minutes per month, which is basically unlimited for me since I only use about 500 or 600 a month, $10 for unlimited texts, and $10 for unlimited data. I signed up so long ago that I don't have a data soft cap, or any tethering restrictions. It's wonderful. Add to this the AMAZING customer service they have, and you've got an all-around A+ company. If I were contemplating suicide, I'd call 611, and have a TMo rep talk me down, because they're just that good.
Those are my reasons for not wanting the merger to go through, and why I love Sprint to death for being openly against it, even if it is for their own gain. The only downside to TMo is the coverage. There's no 3G for about 60 miles around me. EDGE works perfectly fine for what I do, though.

Not trying to diss Windows 7 in anyways, I just bought the Dell Venue Pro a few days ago and I can honestly say its the best phone I've owned (Hardware wise) as with Windows Phone 7..well its a start lol. I'm giving it a chance because its still a new OS.. I could care less about the apps..I'm all about being efficient with my phone. Whether it be putting something in my calendar real quick, jotting down a note or replying back to a text messages. I had bought an iPhone4 a few months back and returned it a week later, I couldn't stand not having physical keys, the notifications sucked ass and I guess I was just too use to Android. Theres a lot of room for improvement when it comes to Windows 7, I remember the firs time I played with a Windows 7 phone, I told myself "This would of been really cool a few years ago" I like the concept of the tiles but I feel that its a waste of space. I look at my Droid Pro and think about all the widgets I can put on my screens, shortcut keys, etc. etc. I feel that Android is better in that sense but then again, I gotta give Microsoft respect for saying "**** this, we're not gonna take the good from iOS and Android and make an OS that almost resembles our competitors" I'm really glad they built this from the ground up, its different and pretty damn cool. I'm also not liking how you have your home screen and when you swipe to the right, you have your apps and nothing else, you should have the ability to swipe left and have another home screen or something else.. maybe they just want to keep it simple.
And heres my biggest gripe.. I have Tmobile.. its either the phone or just Tmobile but more than often I'm on the Edge network not me coming from Sprint and Verizon..this is foreign to me lol..the only time I really get to enjoy the phone is when I'm at home connected to my wifi network, once I'm out of the house, its all down hill from there lol..With this being said.. I think I'm gonna continue to carry my Droid Pro along with my Venue Pro just because I cant count on Tmobile to give me decent reception.
Also, I think I'm gonna continue to hold onto this phone, sure we're all early adopters of Windows 7 phone but I'm pretty impressed, I want Microsoft to succeed and hopefully continue to make this OS better..cant have another Kin now lol.

haha i know, just messin. It does get annoying that people constantly say it wrong tho... Anywho, about the T-Mobile thing...I feel ya. Going from Verizon to T-Mobile is night and day. T-Mobile data coverage is pretty spotty. But then there are spots where Verizon used to let me down and T-Mobile is good, so it's a bit of a trade-off. But Verizon's speeds...much better.
Tmobile is such a joke here, I'm paying for their "4G" yeah ooookay lol. ATT wasn't any better but the phone almost makes up for it though, its still kinda of weird though since I find myself pulling out my Droid Pro whenever I cant send a text with my Venue Pro lol. Maybe the Venue Pro can just be my weekend phone or something lol. Oh and the loud speaker on the Venue Pro is insane..almost a little too loud lol.

I'm not sure what you're talking about but I smell B.S. here.
It's been clear for a while and even the T-mobile reps make it clear that WP7 is not on 4G. Unless the phones can receive 4G, you're not magically going to get it.
As for, 'paying for their "4G", considering comparable plans are much cheaper on T-Mo than on Verizon, stop sounding like they're ripping you off on price.
I get 3G all the time but I'm in Chicago so my situation might be different from yours. When I see Edge or no network, I toggle into airplane mode and back out of it and that clears up an reception problems.
Maybe the Venue Pro sucks not T-Mo.
And people have been hating on the HD7 all this time.

BS on what? According to my account I pay $40 for minutes, $30 for 4G Data, and $10 for text. I was mainly chuckling at the fact that I was paying for 4G knowing that I'm probably nowhere near an area that offers for 4G and now that you tell me my DVP doesn't support 4G its even more hilarious. Oh and yeah I guess you living in a different City and State that I'm in is obviously gonna make a big difference, Chicagos a big city so obviously there's a higher chance of you getting better reception there. Yea, ok, tmobiles plan might be cheaper but when I'm constantly at 0 to 2 bars and on the Edge network what's the point of paying 30 bucks? I might as well see if I can bump my plan down to a 150MB plan or something. Last but not least, your right, it might be my phone, I've been posting on the Dell venue pro forums part of this site and a good amount of people are running into a few issues so I'm gonna see if I can get a replacement phone.
Tmobile in my area isn't the greatest, here in the Toledo area it's Sprint and Verizon that have the service worth going to. I've heard T-mobile is great in other areas.
MO3iusONE, I'm also pretty sure that the Venue Pro doesn't support HSPA+, or 4g. As for paying for 4g, I'm also pretty sure with T-mobile you don't pay anything extra for 4g. I could be wrong on that, but I'm almost definitely positive that 3g rates are the same as 4g rates on T-mobile. Just because it's new, does not mean HSPA+ support.
On topic now, WP7 I like a lot. The problem with it's release, is it's going against platforms that have already matured. Platforms such as Android, BB, and Ios. There are tons of Android devices out there, IOS is on the 3gs and 4 but still selling like crazy on AT&T and then considering it's coming to Verizon is going to boost it even more. Blackberry is still what a lot of business people use for business phones. When these platforms on their own were introduced into the market, there wasn't much there to compare them to for features.
For the Venue now, I got a chance to use it and it was pretty nice to use. Good WP7 experience. I didn't like the keyboard on it, too small for me. I had a Palm Pre before, and I loved the phone. But the keyboard was annoying.
Yeah your right, I had just got off the phone with a TMobile rep and they said that 4G Data is just what they call it and its 30 bucks across the board. They also said I should have really good service in my area so I called Dell, they said to give it a few more days and if I'm still having issues that they'd send me a replacement.
Speaking of the Pre, I loved that phone, I grew up using the Treo's so thats all I ever knew back then. I think Motorola was trying to take a slice out of those Blackberry users by introducing the Droid Pro (real good phone by the way) Like I said though, Windows Phone 7 is still young, I hope it continues to prosper, cant wait to see what improvements what what they implement down the road with this OS.
Any of them are gonna tell you that you should have good service, when that's not always the case. AT&T is pushing sales in lower Michigan and near the Michigan and Canada border, yet they have almost no towers in that area.
Sorry, I can't take anyone that uses "lol" to get a point across serious.
Verizon's coverage is probably the best across the US, I know that for a fact. When you are choosing a phone, actually check your coverage. If you live in, I don't know, Wyoming, than most likely Verizon will be the only carrier with coverage of any kind.
Also, HSPA+ = 4G for T-Mobile until 2013 where they will switch to LTE.
I like WP7 because of the fact they don't use icons on the homescreen (the only other OS that does this approach is webOS, but I can't use that). My desktop doesn't have icons, I don't see why my smartphone should have icons.
In my area, T-Mobile coverage is up to par with the competition and maybe better.
yeah Verizon hands down has the Best coverage in the Nation...as far as t-mobile their really only get their shine in big cities like Atlanta, Philly and etc. The more rural or smaller the city the worst the coverage. I travel along the East Coast a lot and once I leave a sizable city I'm down to EDGE but since I'm usually driving or on a plane being on EDGE while outside of a big city usual isn't a problem.
Back to the topic though, I have both an HD2 (i got it for free) and HD7 and I'm so far pleased with it...I know the apps should come along later on in the year once it catches more steam (i hope) but I think once people really get a chance to see how WP is actually different from iOS and Android offer, people will like it. But then again 100's of millions peope do like having a static icons and went bat **** when could change their background after 3 years of waiting lol

As with service here, I dont live in the sticks, Tucson Arizona is a pretty big city, Sprint and Verizon both work very well over here; what is it with people getting upset over me saying Tmobile is **** in my area and my phone is giving me issues? I mean you cant have great reception everywhere

Yes, your reception drives your smartphone for most part. It impacts the data use in apps (might be speed), battery life oddly enough and the phone in smartphone.
Back on topic, I like WP7. It is a refreshing/different operating system compared to the competition.
I have switched from Sprint to Tmobile just to get the Dell Venue Pro, and I have to agree that Tmobile service does suck badly. I enjoyed my Sprint Service, I got service in places others didnt including Verizon. Never really had an issue with Sprint. But switching to T mobile and experiencing their service has made me realize what I really miss.
Dell Venue Pro is a great device still missing some things from the OS and the phone has a few bugs but its something I can deal with until they fix the issues. The OS will only get better and im loving it thus far. Best choice ive made in a while when it comes to mobile phones.
T Mobile was a lot better than AT&T When I was in NYC at the very least. Was with a friend and almost every place we went, shop, restaurant, he could not get service. while I was fine

You know you don't have to use multiple homescreens, right?
Having multiple home screens is one of the best things on Android, not only that but with certain apps, you could adjust the amount of home screens you have. I use to have my most used apps on the main screen, all my media apps on the next screen, power settings/control panel icons on the screen after that, etc. etc.

[Q] Will the Galaxy Nexus work with Tmobile web2go?

I have a Nexus 1 and have unlimited data working with the web2go $9.99 plan.
The Nexus S did not work with the web2go because Tmobile blocked it. They had the phones imei #'s. The Nexus one was sold by Google so Tmobile did not have the imei #'s
So going off these facts, If I buy the UK Galaxy Nexus will the web2go data plan work?
did the web2go give you edge speeds, or just 3g speeds? or did it give you HSPA as well? and my last question, will it also give you 4g in the galaxy nexus as well? (if it isn't blocked)

Yes it gives me 3g speeds. I think even HSPA+ speeds too (or what the nexus1 limits are capable of. Posted a pic of speed results i just ran)
About the 4g speeds in the galaxy nexus, well in theory if i web2go works then yes I would think that HSPA+ speeds would be achievable.

Its a $9.99 data plan for dumb phones. Tmobile knows if you are using a dumb phone or a smartphone though. So they wont let you use it, BUT certain phones like the nexus one and other unlocked phones can use this plan by messing with their APN settings.
I believe the setting is internet2.voicestream.com, right? If so, I think as long as the GN is unlocked, it should work. According to this link, GN works on T-Mobile.

BTW, I'm using a SE X10i from Norway on T-Mobile. No issue w/ internet2.voicestream.com. 3G & all works fine.

Yea... probably 5~6 yrs ago... Had SE X1i back then. Was getting only EDGE speed...
Well, up till today, I am still using internet2.voicestream.com. Still pay $9.99 per month. Gets EDGE, 3G, and HSPA depending on area's coverage... (Must say that T-mobile's 3G/H coverage isn't as good as AT&T, but it's cheap...)
I use SE X10i, unlocked, running custom CM7 ROM. Had it for 2 yrs and never had problem with internet2.voicestream.com setting.
Therefore, chances of the same setting working is likely... @ least I'm betting ~$800 on it... =S

Did you order the galaxy nexus? If so, can you please update to see if in fact this works. If it dies I'll have one shipped to me as well. This will be a huge plus for me ordering one.

I know T-Mobile did some sh!t like that on the Nexus S. Coworker bought 1 from Best Buy. Worked fine at first. Then got locked out about a week or less. He then updated his data plan to $30, and works fine again. This kinda crap, I don't think will happen to the UK version. T-Mobile-USA can't have all the IMEI# in the world... We'll see soon enough in a wk or more time if the seller ships on time...
Peace out!

They had the #'s for the Nexus S' sold because they were made for T-mo's AWS 3G. Surely T-mobile got the IMEI's for these.

Will the US carriers ever stop screw their customers over? Probably not. It's kind of sad really but it shows what happens with no competition (as in every phone working on every carrier within the country).
any word with tzones/web2go?
also, i wonder if itd make a difference whether the phones bought from an american vendor, as opposed to an overseas one..
Got my GNex today!! (Am happy man right now!)
Plugged my T-Mobile SIM into the GNex... and guess what? GNex loaded the epc.tmobile.com settings automatically... and it WORKS even tho I am on the $10 plan.
Didn't seem to have any issue after about 1 hr of use... But I switched back to internet2.voicestream.com settings... Don't know if t-mobile tracks users on epc.tmobile.com or not, but better be safe than sorry...
After switching to internet2.voicestream.com, internet is working as it should. No issue after another hr of use...
If things change, will make another post.
PS. BTW, this is UK version's GNex. US version doesn't seem to be supporting GSM bands...
Cool, keep us updated if anything changes!
Had been holding off, but now there's no reason to!
We hope.
Are there any downsides to doing this?
I have a Galaxy Nexus on the way and am not currently a T-Mobile customer. How would I go about getting my GN on the web2go plan?
You can't anymore, unless you already have a T-mob account with that data plan. That's kind of the point. Once you give up the grandfathered data plans, or "upgrade" to an Android data plan (at least $20), it's gone forever. So it behooves anyone who still has it to hold on to it.
Way way back, in the early days of wireless data, T-mobile had a $3? plan, on GPRS. Then it went up to $5. I have the $5.99. Then they started offering a $10 plan. That was available up until maybe last year? I think it's completely unavailable now.

Stright talk no need to unlock phone.

I have not found my answer from hours and hours of searching. You do not need to unlock phone before SIM install but you do have to change apn settings

I've ready WAY too many bad reviews of straight talk to cancel my AT&T plan and use their network. All the reviews state that you get what you pay for, half the price, half the service. If anything goes wrong with their service they provide zero help. I'm not sure how they can get away with tagging onto other service providers networks. I'll just use my company's 22% discount and keep my grandfathered unlimited plan.

Today is day three and I can honestly say that I love it it's just like having my old plan we do not have LTE here anyways but now I have unlimited minutes unlimited text and 4g Internet which is plenty for me even if it is only 2.5 or so gigs. Everywhere I used my phone besides my car has Wi-Fi access so I'm constantly connected to Wi-Fi saving about $100 a month on my plan is absolutely amazing to me and I will use that money for other things. The only downfall is I lose my warranty from my cell phone and I also do not get upgrades but that's okay. Saving over $1200 a year is good enough for me. Unlimited text messaging and 3 GB Internet cost me more than this whole plan itself

My wife was on it for a month with the iPhone 4. She claims she had a lot of problems with SMS, MMS (had to hack it to work), calling and data. Things that never happened to her before. To me is sounded like issues I always had with At&t, I recently switched to a company phone I personally can't comment on the service. I had another friend that switched his wife over also and for the most part she hasn't had many issues but there are some. I will be switching her over to T-Mobile prepaid next week (with the Galaxy Nexus :victory.
She had issues with the MMS because it was a known issue between iPhones and MVNOs. There are guides out there, but yeah, iPhones need to be jailbroken to work properly.
As for the service, ST is excellent, if you know what you're doing. You're paying $45/month, but you're on your own. Don't expect tech support for network issues (which AT&T's idiots can't give anyways), but calls, coverage, speeds are all the same as AT&T's HSPA network.
TBay, as far as how they "get away with" providing their service, are you unaware of how MVNOs actually work?

Not really, could you tell me? All I have heard is that they use other network providers cell towers for service. Seems sketchy to me.
All I know is it feels just like my old AT&T service but at 1/3 of the price. I had att for 5 years and I notice no difference

I have ST working on locket AT&T SGS3.
However.
From the start I had issues activating my SMS and data (it was on older Captivate phone). It took me and ST three weeks to figure it out. So if u r patient - go with ST. I got their 1 year prepaid (slightly cheaper than monthly).
T-mo offers 100min/UnlimSMS/UnlimNet for $30/mo prepaid. Good for teens.

i been using it for a year i first start with the original nokie e71 it was good but i wanted something more like android...so i did buy a lg thrive on gophone store...put my sim on it and everything was working plus i was using android on at&t network for only $45+tax before i was paying between $100 and $120 for a 3G phone it was good excellent customer service but too much for my pocket...
ok then i decided to try a better phone samsung infuse i sold the lg and i got the infuse even better i was getting speeds 4mb average on 4G now i had use too many phones..galaxy s2 ,galaxy 2skyrocket,iphone4 and now my galaxy sIII which gave me speeds maximun at 11MB at my town no problems with straight talk the only thing that frustrate is monitoring data you should not use more that 2g at month or 100mb at day..but come on for $45 1/2 of the price i did pay for the same service...

Are you using the apn settings at the first page of this thread? I am and my data speeds are dismal. Half the time the google play store will not even open.
Thanks
If you know someone who is on ST or Net10 or Tracfone or Simple Mobile and they get fast speeds in your home or work and you don't it's because they have a throttle on you. Two things to know if you buy their phone you'll be lucky to get faster than 300kbs prove me wrong I want you to because everyone I know who got their phones can't go over the limit because the throttle right out of the box. Now if you get the sim on your own phone you get what ever speed is available based on phone radio capability and the carrier under the brand. All of those except Simple Mobile are ATT and Simple Mobile is T-Mobile which with an AT&T phone will require you to unlock the phone. All calls ride on any tower available with these mvno's so coast to coast calling (Verizon) level call capability is included via roaming which is unlimited. If you bring your own phone and you start out with fast data and all of a sudden you drop down to 300k or less then you have been throttled. The calls to attempt them to undo that are a waste of time they will not admit you are even being throttled so to fix this you buy a new sim card and keep an eye on your usage then you will be able to get away with a month of 6Gbs of usage or more as some report I speak from experience as this is how I solved the problem. Some of you may say why not just keep your Sim and wait for it to reset because with all of these providers they don't forgive or forget and keep you capped for life as long as you keep that locked sim.
Hope this helps clear the air on how these kind of providers work so you are aware up front. I got capped because I used 12Gb in one day at super fast speeds of 18Mbs which is super fast for these providers compared to Virgin etc. However second time around new Sim I used over 31G the next month no throttle and still fast to this day.
Keep this in mind when you want to go with any of these providers.
Thanks,
JK

Now that I think about it, since its no contract; sims are cheap just keep switching sims until they act right with you. Still cheaper than $120 a month on a contract with limits and charges for overages! No taxes either when you pay online.
Sprint and T-Mobile is a crap shoot for service in 50% of the country that is why those two companies have not joined in on the slaughter of our wallets like Verizon and AT&T but just wait and see they will be forced off that horse once Amazon, Netflix, Hulu and Google are done frying them up for dinner with the DOJ anti-trust suits coming their way.
Because if the utilities don't return to their flat rate model it will be impossible for them to survive as their is a massive migration to push corporations to the cloud and no one in any company is going to recommend moving to a cloud if the prices suddenly quad-drippled; if they want to keep their job that is.
They are taking away consumer choice and acting anti competitive favoring their own services for greed instead of competing for your business as that is the old American way.
What we are seeing now resembles the NAZI way of doing business squeeze you until you bleed.
But hey greed is the new American way.
Cheers!
JK

switched from ATT to verizon, picked up another gnex, GSM vs CDMA, my review

i had a gsm gnex on ATT, friday i ditched ATT and picked up verizon, loved my gnex, so i got a new one for my wife and i. here are my impressions of the differences between the gsm and cdma versions
first, i was easily able to use one click to unlock and root both gsm and cdma versions. the cdma did not require any special treatment to unlock, cwm, root and install 3rd party roms. it was the EXACT same procedure as the GSM.
physical differences, the cdma is just slightly thicker, honestly, i can barely tell, but, my cruzerlite case fit both just fine. the cdma feels slightly heavier, but not enough to make a difference. the power button feels harder to push in over my GSM version though, not a big deal though.
the screen on the CDMA version is perfect, my GSM had the typical banding streaks, cdma version, screen is crystal clear.
battery life was better on my GSM, but this is probably due to LTE
i never thought i would need over 16gb, since i have never had more than that on any device, but, i will say i will never have less than 32gb again, lol. the extra storage is nice! no more deleting music or backups just to install a game!
signal strength is about the same in different areas (home, work, places i frequent), but the LTE speeds are worlds difference over HSPA
all in all, the talk about the verizon gnex not a real gnex, not sure where or why that came about, it looks, feels and performs the same as my GSM.

One difference between the GSM and CDMA Nexus is that you can use the GSM Nexus on Straight Talk Sim (Att or Tmo) for $45 per month and the Verizon one will cost you anywhere between $85-$110 per months. Over the course of 2 years you could save around $700+ by using GSM, if I did my math right (Verizon phone is subsidized, GSM is unsubsidized).

i have multi line family plans, discounted from work. att was $160 per month, 700 minutes shared, 200 texts each month, 2 gb data on main line, 200mb on all others. verizon is $125, 4gb shared data plan, unlimited all others.
straight talk is cool if you're trying to save money, but, i can't rely on a straight talk service with running a business off my devices.

You are right. I guess it depends on how many lines you have. Shared data does probably benefit a person with three or more lines. For a single line or two lines, Straight Talk Sim is a way better option though, because you get 2+gigs of data with unlimited calls and text on each line.
It is really nice to be able to switch carriers as needed as opposed to "Here it comes were shoving it up your *** enjoy the year and a half you have left on your plan." Prepay is the only way for me. I come from sprint the land of "We"ll have that 4g\lte working any day now!" I don't miss it at all.

The reason it's not considered a true nexus is not really the phone it's the carrier The phone is great, its the 2 moron companies Verizon and sprint that jack around forever waiting to let the updates come through for the nexus. It becomes somewhat ordinary when the gsm gets it and you are still waiting......but you most likely know all this. I'm sure lte is great but on a 4gb shared cap it's not that big of a deal.

you and i both know that anyone here, should care less about OTA updates. i think friday was the first time, in over 10 years of smart phones/pdas, that i have ever done an OTA update.
It's too bad your Att is that slow. I can get anywhere between 3-7mbs down with Straight Talk Att. You can get 4gigs (maybe eve more) of data with 2 Straight Talk lines for $90 total per month ($45 for each line). That's a lot less than $125 per month, and its contract free. But I understand you gotta have decent coverage, it's worth nothing without coverage.
This phone (gsm) version is the first one i have felt i didn't NEED to do something to. It's nice just to be able to run it as google intended it to be rather than root/rom so it brings it to the point where it's enjoyable. That's what makes the cdma version a little weak, you are FORCED to do something if you want latest and greatest. Will most people root/rom the cdma and gsm versions? I suppose, but it's really nice to not feel like you HAVE to. Did it feel nice to do that ota update? It's almost like moving into a modern world. Ten years of messing with phones to get it right? Seems at this point we should know what to buy and from which carrier to buy it from to make our lives a little easier, don't you think?

I don't know if you've seen a Verizon nexus or not, but i feel the same way about not needing to flash a Rom right out of the box. I just got my nexus about a week ago, and 15 minutes after i got it activated, i got the jellybean update. It's as pure Google as they come. The only apps Verizon has on there was My Verizon Mobile and backup assistant. I used to have a droid charge, and I'm glad to say that the nexus was a welcome change. The only thing i really had to do to it was install the Swype keyboard, and it's perfect (for now).

This isn't the case with sprint, we switched (my family) to Verizon from Sprint, every line had to pay 150$ i think. Data was spotty and Verizon had brought Lte to our little area in VA. meanwhile, sprint was discontinuing the rollout of Wimax and began creating their LTE towers, so there was no way we were waiting for that again. We had already had wimax 4g phones so we needed new phones anyway. Long story short, Sprints unlimited data is useless in many suburban and even urban areas.

This isn't the case with sprint, we switched (my family) to Verizon from Sprint, every line had to pay 150$ i think. here's what i did to get out, no fees.
i called tech support because i suddenly stopped getting signal at work. they opened a ticket, called me back the next day saying it was "resolved". i had no change. i started losing reception at home, and the signal started getting spotty everywhere else. i call tech support again, they tell me it's my phone, ok, i have plenty of extras, so i swap sim into another phone, same results. they tell me my sim needs to be exchanged and reprovisioned and i need to go to the att store to do so. i go to the att store, they stare at me like i was speaking a foreign language and basically tell me "no". i go back home, call tech support, they tell me go back to store, they will call the store. i go back to the store, talk to rep, he now knows what to do. so he gets a new sim, reprovisions it, then tells me to run a speed test, because this will fix all my problems. i ran it, 80kbs, he was like, uh... i call tech support from my phone with the sales rep, the line was so staticy the tech rep had to call us back at the store, tech support tells me there's nothing more they can do and that their policy is they can't guarantee service everywhere. i then contacted the BBB, teh FCC and the attorney generals office for complaints. i then get a call back from the office of executives at att, my line was so staticy that they immediately cancelled the account right there.
if you are plagued with issues, you can get out of the contract. the BBB is a great resource, they have to respond to close out the complaint filed with the BBB

Who is going to leave Sprint after contract is up?

I here a lot of people talking about just how terrible Sprint service is (myself included). I wanted to know how many of you are thinking of leaving Sprint to go to Verizon, AT&T, etc. I definitely know that I will be switching to Verizon after my 2 year contract is up. I love the SGS3 but hate the service. So...who's with me? lol
living just north of Chicago, i have great signal pretty much everywhere and LTE, so I'm lucky in that aspect. plus i use a ton of 4G data
So I am not planning on leaving, but i know if i had crappy service I'd be looking elsewhere.

Probably switching my 5 lines to Straight Talk. 2 unlimited and 3 on the lower level. It will save me a nice chunk of change, and upgrade my service. Never had Wimax, and will never have LTE. I just beg Sprint every month for the usable 3G that I had 20 months ago. We aren't on a "list" to get anything. They are forcing my hand

I live in WNY, and actually get pretty decent Sprint service day to day. It prob helps that I have an Airave at home, and am on Wifi both at the office and home. Just renewed for 2 yrs with the Sam's Club $0.96 GS3 deals, renewed both lines on account. Also get 23% discount, and unlimited data...so it's gonna be very hard to leave Sprint any time soon...my entire company is on VZW, and our company gets 17% discount, still not worth giving up unlimited data for!
Never. The service is serviceable but the unlimited data for the price is unbeatable.

Does the AirRave cause you to get dupe SMS' or anything? Mine was acting all nutzo.
I don't plan on leaving. I have Spotty 4G around Indianapolis but the price blows away the only other carrier (Verizon) that I would consider. But I am around wireless the majority of the time and haven't been in a situation where I could not get by with 4G.
I just got my S3 last week from Radio shack for 99 dollars that came with 50 dollar Google Play Credit. That came in handy for stocking up on a few widgets I needed to customize it.
I would be gone if I didn't pay $41 a month for unlimited everything with insurance included. At&t, Verizon, and MetroPCS all have LTE in Sacramento where I live and T-Mobile has HSPA+ 42. Sprint doesn't even know when they are going to start to roll out LTE here. In the meantime my 3G is absolutely pathetic. It is very frustrating to say the least. I'm highly considering Straight Talk or T-Mobile with a unlocked Nexus 4 when my contract is up in June.

Honestly, after 2 years you probably won't feel so strongly about leaving anymore, assuming data is still unlimited.
Sprint now has 100% of clearwire....That makes them the Company with the Biggest Spectrum and SoftBank putting Billions into being the number one, He's that type of Guy, no second in the Game for him, so that means lower cost to be coming, unlimited to stay and All others to Envy us Sprint Users.....Good things come to those who WAIT....lol....
I'm in Hudson County, NJ and prior to Hurricane Sandy, the signal was sketchy at best. After the storm, I have yet to reach two bars of signal at my home. I called Sprint and they said the towers in my area were afffected by storm and they were aware of the situation and trying to get things back to normal. I have yet to see any improvements. Wimax was available here but LTE looks like mid 2013 at best. Since I renewed my contract to get the SIII, I'll be on the hook until 2014 but this will be my last run with Sprint if I dont see significant improvements on their network around here.

How do you only pay $41??? If that was all I had to pay I wouldnt complain either lol. But I live in Tallahassee, FL and I am lucky to get 300kb/s download speeds, so needless to say, I only use wifi. Also I would only have to pay $15 more to switch to Verizon so thats a no brainer to me.

So will we be able to use this service with our current phones or do we have to wait and buy newer phones that will have the compatible radios?

Have you thought of going to page plus? I hear their service is pretty great, not to say that Straight Talks service is not.

Unlimited Data?? Hahaha when you only get 300kb/s down, unlimited data is useless. I would rather pay $15 more on Verizon and get LTE speeds on have 4gb of data that I will never exceed. I guess it would be a good deal if I lived in an area that had reasonable data speeds tho.

But unlimited data means nothing unless you can use it. If you are on wifi all the time then unlimited data is worthless to you too. With Verizons "limited" data plan you can get 4gb of data and trust me you will never use that much. But like I told the other guy, if you get reasonable data speeds where you live then Sprints plan IS unbeatable. I only get on average 300kb/s down lol
Atlanta, GA
Here in the Atlanta, GA area, I get pretty good service since they turned on all the LTE towers. One place I don't get good reception is in my house. I have considered trying to get a free airrave to solve that. I will be sticking with Sprint, unless things suddenly go to pot.

I'd say that's not bad for 3G inside my house.
2 months ago it was unusable.

Honestly, since the network vision started my service became alit better. In every way. I had dead spot in my area in one block I would perfect signal the next completely dead, and now it have a 50% increased in sign in all my dead spot. An network vision has been fully deployed. Before making rush decision I would say wait and see what sprint offers with their network upgrades specially now that they 100% clear. And will have 800mghz spectrum too. I say it going to go to number two if they actually able to keep their word with network vision

Forced to leave sprint
I got forced to leave sprint. I had 4 lines on a shared plan, and they booted my number because of excessive roaming. Now I'm stuck with a pretty new GS3 with no use for it. I ported my number to a dumbphone on straightalk toi save the number. Therefore if anyone wants I have a GS3 (16gig) with a cracked screen that I found after I got my new one through insurance, a GS3 (16gig) that Id be willing to trade both for a decent android GSM phone.
PM me if anyone wants it
