I see/meet a huge variety of people in my job.
This thread reminds me of the Evo 3D being named "3VO" and about half of the members hating the name once the device started getting some development/attention, lol.

There is a reason this phone has the longest name ever, Samsung Galaxy S2 Sprint Epic 4g Touch. Carriers want to re-brand the phone and make it "theirs" (here in the US of A anyway) however, Samsung isn't stupid, they knew what kind of reputation they built around the name "Samsung Galaxy S2," I mean hell I've seen more SGS2 TV commercials recently than I think I've ever seen for a smartphone. Samsung wasn't about to let them take that name away, but they let Sprint slap some crap on the end knowing which name would stick. What does it say on the back of our phones? Galaxy S II, I don't see the word Epic anywhere on here. Now I do think we have one of the better SGS2s, considering screen size and processor, but I don't need the words "Sprint Epic 4G Touch" to distinguish those things.

They still have to advertise different products. Does honda just advertise the accord? It's better than the civic. Does Nissan only advertise the Maxima? It's better than the Altima. The fact is different items appeal to different people, phones are no different.

im convinced that sprint has a better contract with htc than they do with sprint.. the epic was better than the evo but got no publicity, and now the e4gt has better is better than the evo3d and gets no burn.. obviously something is up

I've wondered about that, too. They promoted the Evo3D on their website for over a month before it was available... I never saw mention of the ET4G until launch day.
In fact, the picture of the Evo3D with that creepy-looking little girl is still up there.
I wonder if Sprint is having the same issues with Samsung that caused Verizon to relegate them to Red-headed step child status... Too many returns due to radio issues.

Your all wrong. You have to advertise the worse product for it to even sell. The people that know what's going on know what phone to buy without seeing an advertisement. If they felt like they were going to have a problem selling the epic touch then they would advertise for it. Remember it does cost money to advertise so why spend money if you don't have to. Also there really wasn't that much advertising for any of the sgs1 and it out sold every manufacturer.

This is for those who care. The Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus is safe to flash on Sprint! Don't know good it would work because of the 4G sim card it uses.

Definitely not possible. In order to provision a phone on Sprint you either:
Need to have the ESN/MEID in the Sprint system, and only certain Sprint personnel can do this, or
Illegal activity of which XDA does not approve.
Long and short of it - Sprint reps are never to be trusted on these things. They only know what is in a script -and when they can't find it they say whatever they can to make you happy.

The 2 best looking phones there IMO is the evolution 3d and the epic touch the evo design my cousin and her boyfriend have and they have lot of problems. But if I had to pick I would wait a little longer because the galaxy nexus is coming to sprint if you look on their main page

If it had to be a now thing.. can't go wrong with the Samsung Galaxy S ll, Epic 4G Touch. However... I am in the same boat (new phone time!), but I am waiting to see what they announce this quarter and the future of LTE.
Dallas, Atlanta, Houston and San Antonio are slated to be the first to go LTE, so if you are in those areas it might behoove you to see what comes out. Right now the Galaxy Nexus and LG Viper are upcoming LTE phones.
I'm leaning toward the Epic 4G Touch as LTE means nothing to me. My area doesn't even have WiMAX (now it never will). And from what I read, the E4GT will get official ICS Q1 2012 anyway. That right there pretty much evens the playing field between the two phones.
Still interested in hearing your opinions though.

Is that "feature" alone enough to justify a probable $100 price premium for the Gnex vs E4GT? For me, it's not.
I say if your not worried about lye e4gt is the way to go or u can join the apple fanboys and get a 4s lol

Et4g over 3vo any day of the week and photon is a big disappointment had all 3 in my house et4g was the winner still have that crappy photon too lol it sux with its funky bootloader and borking stuff to unlock it the 3vo was a launch day and had crummy radios in it so it got traded for the photon which is a better all around phone than the 3vo just isn't great for flashaholics

I've had so much success with the eVo og that I'd have to go with the eVo 3d.....
Galaxy S2 at the moment, although that new Nexus is coming.....
I've heard nothing but good things about the epic touch but I'm personally trying to hold out for the nexus
Epic 4G Touch has me scared now. All I read about the phone is poor signal and useless GPS. I'm not able to find any recent threads that confirm if this stuff has been fixed or not though. Can anyone help out? Maybe first-hand experience??

I might have to do that. It'll be more than $199 for sure, but hopefully it won't be a hunk of garbage like it sounds like the Epic 4G Touch is.
I moved to the photon. Only phone that has a kickstand now. And reception...I hazzzz it!
My only complaint is pentile display but its no biggie any more.
Rom dev is kinda slow but all quality stuff.
After my experience with a nexus s 4g I am gonna skip sanding as they seem to be having the same issues with the cdma radios on the big V

Probably sprint distancing themselves considering the legal trouble in re: apple.
Official Sprint support for the OG Epic is going. They are not longer issueing updates for it (IE Official ICS/JB) she stopped at GB (2.3.6 I believe) I just recently left the OG Epic to the touch (got a good deal on it) So Galaxy's are still good to go.. not even worried about Legal issues.. they are still slinging the S2 and S3 so jump on one if you like... (S2 should still be getting a an update, but not 100% sure) Hope this helps clarifiy.
This is only my thoughts on this.. not an official statement by anyone important, just how i understand it to be coming from the OG Epic side of XDA and folks on there..

I was responding to EOL on device... for some reason i thought pic was actually of the S2 (oddly i didn't look at mine sitting next to me! lol) been a long day at work.
Sprint is done with "EPIC" as samsung will not make carrier specific modifications as in EPIC and EPIC 4G TOUCH. Galaxy SIII is just Galaxy SIII.

Yeah it's a shame about the EOL, but I'm actually surprised the Hero is still on the page. More bummed out than surprised I suppose, I went threw 9.5 Samsung Moments. I gutted 2 & zombied them together.

Agreed! This is only the 2nd Epic I've needed, I drowned the first one. I'm using my upgrade to get my wife the Note 2 & keeping both our OG Epic's as wifi devices. Maybe then I'll finally sell back the only working Moments I ever owned!

Nice, I found my Epic Touch (S2) for $50 on Craigslist... Loving it.. I'm going to upgrade to the S3 later this year/early next year probaly, but wanted to mess with something different for now. Mom took the OG Epic inplace of her Photon. lol.. I'll prolly sell back this thing when i upgrade. It'll eat some of the cost.
So any idea if there will be another hwkb device? Or is it touch screen from now on? I remember something on the CM9 blogspot about the masses calling for another device with a full layout.

Nexus Slide.. Moto Photon Q, I'm sure there will be more. Seems they are coming around again.. I don't miss it as much as i thought i would honeslty. S2 is quite nice to type on.

I agree with you. I was a little skeptical at first about going to a phone with out a keyboard, because all my previous ones had a keyboard. I actually like it a lot better, don't get me wrong though I do miss it sometimes lol
I just see friends (with out swype) struggling to enter text as I just smash words at about 45 WPM!! I don't think I could be happy without all my extra working parts
I thought i wouldnt be. But honestly, keyboard on the touch wih the larger screen isnt that bad.

I was just wondering, where do the names for our phones come from? For instance our phone is called a galaxy s2 at sprint. But its also referred to as the epic 4g touch and also the sphd710 or whatever. My wife had the galaxy 1 on T-Mobile but it was also called the Samsung vibrant. Now she has a galaxy s3 but she came with with me to sprint. I don't know where to find the name of it on the forums though. Is it the gs3 international? Is there a website that has all of the phones listed with all of their names on it?
