[Q] smart actions app? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

droid razr has a smart actions app. i was wondering if it could possibly work in e4gt. it is a moto app i got the apk out of the system dump that's been floating around obviously it doesn't work as is.
does anyone know how we could get this app working on the e4gt?

There are a lot of appear on the market that do the same thing. Just search for profile appear and you will find a bunch that will do exactly what smart actions does and some that will do even more.
Maybe you will find one that works for you and not have to wait for an appear to be ported that may never work.

i have found tasker and locale about the only 2 apps i found, a perfectly good working alternative.

I wasn't going to recommend Tasker as it costs money, though I bought it a long time ago and love it.

Help for a friend...

My friend broke her G1 and got the Slide to replace it, she doesn't like the texting application. I'm sure theres a way to get rid of that or just preferably install stock android on the thing. I don't yet have any experience with Android (I will be getting the Droid X in a week) so I would love a bit of hand holding here.
As far as I understand it would would involve rooting the device and then installing a rom of normal android? Is this correct?
I would love if someone could actually walk me through the process or any tips, keep me in mind that once I do this for her she needs to be able to just use it forever after that. I don't wanna flash her phone and it ends up crashing a week late or something.
So can I be pointed in the right directions?
You would have to Root the Phone to Remove Built in Apps. BUT, Since this IS Android you are not bound to use the Default Messaging App. You can download some very good and Feature Rich Messaging apps from the Market. 2 Free ones that come to mind are Handcent (which I used to use before I got my Slide) and ChompSMS. You just have to uncheck the Recieved Notification box in the HTC one and you should be ok from there.
Before going through the trouble of rooting, has she tried any of the available messaging apps from the market yet?

Yea, per your suggestions I told her to just try installing another to see if she likes it.

SwipePad APP alternative

Does anyone know of another APP like Swipe Pad. It's a good APP but it lags a lot when i open an APP.

ReLaunch - Launcher

Thanks. I tried that re-launcher APP and it works flawlessly. The only issue i have is that you can't remove categories and APP's so it kind makes it overwhelming.

I have tried a bunch of them, and I always end up coming back to swipepad. Don't even remember the names of the apps I tried but they were a bunch of them

Wave launcher didn't want to install for some reason. It keeps FC. But I found this APP that's almost like swipe pad without there lag.

I've loved swipepad but always hated the lag since I had an sgs2 and even when it became faster on my modern phones. This is fast, thanks and I can use both apps.
Although there are a bunch of these, there's nothing quite like SwipePad. I've tried to switch many times and I end up back with SwipePad like an old girlfriend. The only thing is, SwipePad doesn't seem to get updated very much. It took ages for the Lollipop update, and soon after it was done, Marshmallow came along. The context panel no longer works and blacklist also fails to work. It's a tad less responsive to the point that sometimes when you select an app to open, it misses. You have to linger maybe 200 milliseconds. Those things are annoying but even with those annoyances, it's still the best out there by quite a bit. I have two "pads", each with 12 functions. Twenty-four functions is quite enough for me when they are easy to get at and it doesn't require me to switch from Nova Launcher.

I recently updated my tablet from Kitkat to Marshmallow and realize that "Dynamic Pads: SwipePad add-on" doesn't work as Context Panel. From other reviews in Play Store I get feedback that this problem started a long time ago in Lollipop. Context is shown not for active app, but for active Launcher.
I overcome this problem yourself easily because I have rooted device, I moved "SwipePad Dynamic Pads" app from user apps to system apps. Now it works again as it should. Probably some app's permission restriction in LP/MM...
I know this post is old, however I found it with Google Search.
You can give my app a try, I believe it's the closest thing to SwipPad and even taking the idea further to a new level (keep an eye on the coming updates)

[Q] Anyone familiar with the "Profiles Manager" type apps?

I'm looking to start setting up some profiles that can be switched by using a widget or NFC tags. Where I can set different power or volume or desktop or even change my Launcher.
Does anyone have experience with these types of apps, that can tell me what to look for or expect? Or maybe which one is best?
The ones I've listed below were 4+ star apps that have been updated within the last three months.
In no particular order:
Profile Scheduler+
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wetpalm.ProfileSchedulerPlus&feature=search_result
MyProfiles+
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fancy01.myprofiles&feature=search_result
Handy Profiles Premium
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.msd.handy.profiles.sell&feature=search_result
EasyProfiles Pro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.SmartDyne.Donate.EasyProfiles&hl=en
My AOSP ROM has CM profiles available, but I guess I'm looking for something smarter.
I also have Tasker, but the learning curve is just too much for me to get into right now.
EDIT:
I went ahead and bought EasyProfiles (Pro). After reviewing the features of each app, this one seemed to have the most capabilities. But it's also the most expensive at almost $5.

[Q] 4.4 Ok Google Hotword Question

So Ive tried out a couple of available ROMS for my S3 that ran 4.4 and i absolutely love all of them...mainly for the OK GOOGLE hotword search feature. What I'm wondering, is if there is any possible way to utilize that feature as a widget somehow within a different launcher?
Honestly, The Google Experience Launcher is lacking tremendously in a bunch of areas, mainly customization. Another really frusterating aspect, is the lack of ability to create folder within my app drawer........so I guess what im asking (and already did, a few paragraphs ago) Is there any way to use the HOTWORD OK GOOGLE (perticularlly the "always listening " feature) to work with another launcher ex..NEXT or NOVA.
Thanks to all you brilliant people on here who make me look smart to normal people

Daydream Compatibility

Ok so I got this phone expecting to be able to install and run daydream apps and games. Looking on the play store aside from the official daydream app none of the other apps appear to be compatible. I could understand if some developers put device/screen restrictions on their apps but I don't see every app being that way. Is there something I'm missing or some change I need to make for the daydream compatibility?
** side note I just double checked and the official daydream app by google says incompatible device as well.

Ok so looking a little closer at the matter it appears as if Google is "automatically" giving daydream certification to most phones without LCD screens. As far as I can tell, however, the IPS screen in the G7 meets all of google's requirements. I wonder if they haven't gotten around to certifying the G7 or if they are hands down declining cert for any phone with an LCD screen. On that note does anyone know of a way without root to get daydream working on "incompatible" phones without root. I have to admit I enjoy root, but with all the manufacturers working to lock down their devices I'm trying to move away from root for the features I'm looking for. Unfortunately that means upgrading my phone more often, but alas that is the goal of the manufacturers.
I've been looking as well. Powerful phone but no good vr app?
I'm stumped on what to do. I tried to return my lg g7 thinq for the Galaxy because I am finding the Galaxy is being excepted with compatible software and yhe lg is getting passed by.
