Annoying Plurk - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an app called Plurk ( widget ) on my DHD, but no matter how many times i delet it using root explorer, it is still there. After i delet it, i check using the app manger and it is still ther, so i use the root explorer again and the apk of the app is there again. Why and how to get rid of it?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App

I used Titanium Backup to remove mine, either freeze the app or delete it.

I tried to delete it, but it keeps comming back. I dont know what is titanium backup. Also the stupid "trends widget" does the same. It is htc's rwitter app ( or something )

Look it up on Android Market. Download & Install. Then use it to forcefully remove the annoying apps like Plurk...

If you have Root access simply delete the .apk file from /system/app/

I could try it, but that Plurk is asia only. Do it does not appere in my market. The trends thing comes with the phone as HTC built in app and can not be downloaded from the market.

Download Titanium Backup, install it then freeze or delete any apps you do not need.
Always back up first with TB then you can reinstate if required.
Your phone will need to be rooted.
Good luck...

Ok guys, looks like i did not make it clear. I dont want or need to back up my phone, and just deleting does not work. The problem is that even though I delete the .apk and even every other file with the name, the apps don't vanish and the .apk file magically comes back to life and exists in my phone once again. So what I ask is if you guys/gals/its know how to get rid of them once and for all?

Which bit of my two posts did you not understand...
May I suggest you do some googling, reading and learn the uses and capabilities of Titanium Backup as it does far more than just back up your mobile.
It will remove any app and that includes system apps.
Used with caution it is a great tool.
•Multiple backups per app (history length can be chosen)
•Zero-click background batch restore
•Encryption of your backups (asymmetric crypto: the passphrase is needed on restore only)
•Multi-user support for some apps (eg: games) with a widget for quick switching!
•Batch verification of your backups
•Dalvik cache cleaner can free up precious internal memory
•App freezer can disable an app (and make it invisible) without un-installing it
•Convert users apps <=> system apps
•Integrate system app updates directly into your ROM to free up even more internal memory
•Migrate some system data (eg: SMS/MMS) across incompatible ROMs
•Ultra fast HyperShell (much faster for almost everything)
•Batch app freezing/defrosting
•Advanced app control (pause/resume apps during backup, instead of stopping them)
•Restore individual apps+data directly from ClockworkMod backups. Supports CWM5+ and most CWM4 backups
•Full support for paid apps that must normally be installed through the Market!
•Market "auto updating" manager, to easily verify, enable or disable auto updates on several apps at once!
•Unlimited, independent scheduled backups (each of which can run 1 to 7 times a week)
•Market Doctor can retrieve or re-create any broken Market links (for your updates to appear in Market again)
•Synchronize all (or some of) your backups to Dropbox
•Retrieve all your backups from Dropbox (in case of lost phone or SD card failure)
•Protect backup against deletion
•Send backup by e-mail
•CSV data export from any app's DB, to e-mail or Google Docs
•Convert app data to/from Gingerbread's faster WAL DB format
•Brand the app with your name

If it keeps coming back then there is an issue with the rom as it should not keep coming back. I have been trying to reproduce your issue and can't. I delete the apk and it is gone. Doest come back no matter how long I wait.

OP - You sure your perm rooted? From the sounds of it I'd say that your still S-ON. An system changes will be restored after a reboot.
If you boot into bootloader what does the top line say?

You dont have to yell. I will try it. Thanks

You think i should reinstall the rom?
Why the hell a custom rom would come with crap like that? Is there a clean rom with sense three? No crap and apps to annoy. Letting people install what they want without cleaning it first

That maybe part of your problem. Plurk is part of sense. If you remove it then sense will have issues. The aplbis all the sense roms. Only way to safely remove it with issues would be to go senseless

Ah, well that explains it.

[Q] {Q} My market app disappeared....

Yes I searched, but every thread dealt with an EVO that was running a ROM. I am just unrooted, and I don't have a back up to reflash to. I am just trying to figure out how to get it back, and why it is gone.
Thanks for the help in advance. I know this is probably basic stuff for you guys so thanks for hanging in there with me.
OE
When did it dissapear? Need some background info
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on the IPhone. We now have the Htc Evo.
Idk, maybe over night. I just tried to open it up this morning. I have a shortcut on my home screen. And it says item no longer installed. And its not in all apps area either. I did run a new update yesterday, think it has to deal with that?
If you have a file manager (astro, androzip, etc) you can just get an apk and install it.
If not, backup your current ROM and flash a new one to install the market again.
I ran into this problem too and I don't remember how. Hopefully you have a file manager, because I didn't and it was a mess haha
It happened to me, I used my backip pro, wiped and reinstalled all my apps. There were multiple apps missing, they were still in my data/app folder but for some reason the weren't installed, and when I did install them there a -1 after the file name. So I was getting duplicate files. So yea back up, wipe, reinstall if its bugging you. Nice truck BTW.
I do indeed have astro. Where could I find the apk for marketplace?
And I had a Hero before and there were obvious reasons to rom/overclock it (slow) any good Roms for EVO?

Thanks a bunch!
The number one cause for the market issues right now are when they did the OTA update for this new market it placed it in the data/app directory and most all custom roms and themers put it in system/app (Vending.apk). If you had it in the system/app and now have one in the data/app folder as well... it then plays hide and seek with you and disappears. You can search for something called vending-1 (I believe) and delete it from data/app if you want to install a custom themed market or delete the Vending.apk out of system/app if you want the stock.
Here is fernando sor's custom themed market where this issue has been driving everyone crazy.

sorry for being a newb but I went to back up with nandroid, and I can't find a nandroid. Are the Hero and Evo a lot different with that side of things?
Sorry.
Are you using RA Recovery or Clockwork? What rom are you on?
I dont know what either of those mean, and I am factory ROM. Thats why I can't figure out why its gone.
OP, have you tried flashing the latest Gapps? You can find them in Lithid's Rapidshare folder in his CM7 thread. Alternatively, you can just push a vending.apk via ADB as other have suggested.

I believe he did state that hes not rooted, if I interpreted his OP correctly. Thus he has no custom recovery or nand backups or anything of the such. He is stock, un modified. So with that said, I personally have no clue where his market app went. To OP, when you go to menu/settings/applications /manage applications, and go to the "all" tab, is your market in there? If so, what choices do you have when you select it?

In order to flash a rom, you would first need to root the phone, and get s off. In my opinion, the easiest way is to use unrevoked, you just need to make sure to use the correct hboot drivers and properly install them, all available from the unrevoked site. Once you're rooted, you can make a full nandroid backup using a custom recovery. As far as making a backup while you're still stock, im not sure of the best way to backup. Sorry I have no links, im on the app at the moment, but a search should get you going.

[Q] Insufficient Storage?

I'm using a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 rooted but running standard stock rom. Today I noticed a version of SuperUser for update on the playstore. After downloading it my device gave me the error "insufficient storage on device". I have 9gb of internal free, and 32gb on my SD Card. (still haven't figured out how to install stuff to my SD card... i'm a noob ).
I haven't done anything to alter the rom that I can think of. I installed the updated apk for Playstore but read to uninstall the update and give it a try. No success. Also to note, Angry Birds Space which is 22mb downloaded and installed after the error was popping up. So it just seems to be superuser.
Thanks
For future reference , you can NOT install apps to the sd card. Its internal memory or nothing.
Also if superuser won't install but other apps will then there is some leftover in android/data.
Delete it and it should install.

Thank you for the reply! However I am kind of lost as to what you mean leftovers in android/data.
using myfiles go to
/mnt/sdcard/android/data
once there , delete anything having to do with superuser.
That should do the trick. Should. The reason why is once you uninstalled superuser sometimes it doesn't remove every component. This will.
Leaving you free to install the new apk.
Sadly I don't see anything with Super User there. I even attempted to do a Cache wipe from CWM recovery. Still nothing.
Use root explorer and go to /system see how much space is used up in the system folder. It could be that is the issue.

I don't understand this reasoning. I picked up the 16GB Galaxy at the store because 32GB was only available on line.
Would a future custom ROM be able to fix this?

If you rooted using this (no tripping the flash counter) method, there was a problem with system size on the original. Just need to do it again with the updated files.
Still having the issue popping up. Here are a couple screen shots. Also my root was the first method that did trip it. I have since removed root because of the issue. Still persists though.

If so, did you see the update from 66 to 67 due to possible system size issues?
I just put 67 on and now I have super user again, however simple apps like the weather channel still give me that error. Thank you for helping me with this, too. I'm going crazy over it!
any fix on this?
I am having the exact same issue. Been running on my AT&T rooted Galaxy S3:
Andriod 4.0.4
Kernel Version 3.0.8
Build: Diet ICS v7.11.12
Several weeks, no issues.
This morning I went to install 2 updates and each update said "Insufficient Storage".
I can not download any updates or new apps without getting this error.
If I uninstall an app, I can not re-install it without getting the same error "Insufficient Storage".
I have cleared the cache and data under Google play store app info
I have gone into recovery mode, cleared cache and dalvik cache.
Nothing is working.
Any help would be much appreciated

I installed many official and custom ROM but you say factory reset ?????
I'm sure this problem is not because of an application.because when I Factory reset or install a new ROM it is good for a while but after 10 minutes the problem is shown ...
When I Insert a Sim Card in the device the screen turn off and on quickly and the network of Sim Card will Unavailble and it goes to Emergency Call Mode ...
What's your Idea?

You mentioned you have flashed many ROMs both custom and original.
Do you use TitaniumBackup to restore? And if so, do you restore data as well?
I would recommend not restoring phone data and when you restore your apps, do a few at a time to see if it is an app causing this.
If you don't use TitaniumBackup, and allow Google to restore, do the same.
You say it starts to happen after several minutes after a fresh flash... I think there is an app that is causing this.
Good luck.

edit ive also found this too
https://www.androidpit.com/process-com-google-process-gapps-has-stopped-fix
if it dont work go through the steps to reproduce it (from installing the rom) so i can try to recreate it on my end
another edit
i did not see if after donig a factory reset myself so im unsure whats causing it did you install that GSM patch? it might not get along with HTC sense or something verizon has in there i havent found yet
@fennectech,
I applied the GSM patch but im still not getting a signal although I have USSD codes.
I have restarted, factory reset and all but i'm still getting the error. I have reinstalled the ROM and am getting the same results
Please note I got the errors before I applied the GSM patch.
Something else, the camera is gone, not working
Can I request something from you, Please back up one stock ROM of a 612 and share it with me, I'd rather go back to stoc.k. My backup is messy Thank you for your noble work
I am trying to install it as well. I have TWRP installed with a 2.8.7 recovery image and when I try to peform a backup, it only brings me back to the fastboot menu. Never does an actual backup. So, therefore, there is no TWRP/backups folder to put the files in. I have tried doing a restore as well using the image but not luck. It tells me it's going to reboot but same thing, it just reboots to the fastboot menu. It is rooted and S-Off already using Sunshine
Any suggestions?

OTA updates failing to install....

Hi guys. So I need help with my M9. There's an OTA update, and it keeps failing to install. When I download it I try to install it and here's what happens: It starts installing it and when it reaches 24% it stops for like a minute then it reaches 25%. After that the % indicator flashes and then it stays like that for 1-2 minutes and it opens the recovery saying that it failed. This is happening on a stock, non-rooted device. If you can help I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Boot to fastboot (white screen) and post what it says at the top of the screen.

Due to the phone being S-OFF we know that someone tinkered with it. Therefore, the system partition most probably is modified. That's why the OTA aborts. The slightest modification of the system makes the OTA security checks fail.
Get the RUU for your current OS version from the ReadMe thread and flash it with one of the methods that are explained in the same thread. This should restore your phone's system partition so that you can install OTAs, again. Be aware that RUUs delete all your personal data from your phone.

RUU tells me it reboots to bootloader and it doesn't actually do anything and the update fails, what's the issue there?

Please don't hijack the threads of other users. That quite impolite towards the OP.

You're right, I'll make my own thread and have my issue solver faster due to the OP being higher priority :cyclops:

I personally don't like backing up things in cloud services. Therefore, I'll only name offline alternatives.
Photos, videos, music, contacts and SMS can get backed up with MyPhoneExplorer. For backing up WhatsApp messages and its media files you'll want to use the app's offline backup function and to copy the WhatsApp folder from your phone's internal storage to your PC. I don't know a way to backup other apps (without root). However, restoring app data from older android versions often leads to bugs and glitches since directories change sometimes during system updates. Therefore, I'd recommend starting from scratch even if your phone was rooted. It actually doesn't take that long to set up apps, again.
