Conquest to hide the capacative buttons!!! - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hey all,
I am looking for the best screen protector for my Epic 4G Touch, but with a twist.
A friend of mine got his hands on a Galaxy Nexus, and has made me extremely green with jealousy over how there are no buttons (capacative or not)
So, I was wondering if someone out there knows of a way to hide the capacative buttons, under a screen protector or something, so they still function, but are not seen at all... so maybe a screen protector that is black at the bottom or something??
I am pretty sure this can be done, but I would love some input from the community
thanks!

Only thing I can think of is to turn the lights for the buttons off. I doubt theres a screen protector that has black at the bottom.

I'm sure there is a crafty or ghetto way to color the bottom of a screen protector yourself

Screen protector with a sharpie marker.
I did it with my sensation red and it looked like the Sensation xl buttons.

Lmao. Because NOBODY would notice Sharpie ink on a phone bezel.

haha the first thing i thought reading the op was 'someone is going to mention sharpie'

Can we get some pictures of that??
And I contacted GhostArmor, but I haven't heard back from them regarding a black screen protector around the edges.... we will seee!!!

why do you think hiding the cap buttons would be cool?

your phone has button at the bottom, deal with it.

Just turn off the lights in the display settings, they're are good as gone. I mean unless you want to block them out completely with a black sharpie lol

Turn off the lights in settings and get the mirror screen protector, you wont see them anymore.

Funny, I was looking at engadget's review of the nexus this morning and I was thinking to myself, "Wow, those soft buttons look like a deal breaker for me. I'm glad I went with the E4GT"

Yeah same here. Hopefully most phones don't start adapting this design in 2012. The onscreen soft buttons take away from the beauty of the screen layout (in my opinion). Seriously, if I'm going to take the time to customize my screen, I don't want these dang soft buttons below ruining the look.

That's a great idea, thanks!

I want my screen to resemble the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus as well. I don't want to see Samsung, and I'd like the capacitive buttons to disappear when not in use. I don't have the extra cash to order right now, but...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Epi...ccessories&hash=item1c1f8c3939#ht_4242wt_1378
I was thinking the above, in combination with a regular protect and cut and match the two. If you try this before I do, post results!

For the right price someone will make your half tinted half not screen protector. Try decalgirl.
This thread still makes no sense to me. Sell the epic and upgrade. Although the nexus isn't an upgrade other than ics. The gs2 has a better display and same hardware for the most part.

Google has already said that all of the new phones that come with ICS will no longer have physical buttons.

Privacy Screen Protector...NOW WITH PICTURES>>>>

I ordered one from Daydeal.com Yesterday and waiting on it to arrive.
This would make my Third one Yes i know i said 3 but the first 2 had problems and were ordered from a different seller.
anyone out here found any of these that are good and screen and touch buttons work if so where did you find it at..
i'm still waiting on my one from daydeal
EDIT: Pics of the screen protector taken from my wife HERO
Tried to get a pic of where i had to cut out the opening for the camera (front)
Hey how did that screen protectore from Daydeal.com Work out? does it make it harder to touch the screen? are the capacative buttons functional with the protector on? is there a cut out for the front facing camera?
thanks for the info!!
I'm thinking about getting a 4 way privacy screen for a ipad and cutting it down to size since I can't find one cut for the evo.
I have a 2 way now but it doesn't work well in landscape and I had to cut the bottom of it to get the buttons to work. I also think it is to thick. It makes it difficult to do multi-touch.
I'm hoping since the ipad is nothing but touch that the products available for it might me a little thinner and more capable of multi-touch. Wish 3M would get in gear and realize that more people than just BB users want to protect their privacy. Not that a 4.3" screen is a beacon for prying eyes or anything....
The screen (privacy) protector from daydeal.com works great the buttons work perfectly the only issue is the front camera is not cut out but you can fix that with a hobby knife with no problem I'll post a pic soon of the screen protector on my phone with the camera cut out.

i had the clarivue and it worked great... it did have some spots where the finish came off.. around the edges but it wasnt bad.
i had to change the screen of my phone so i lost it but now that i dont have a screen protector makes me like how good the screen looks. not bad like before.
i ordered a clear protector now... dont think i will go back to the anti-figerprint or privacy.
Well I guess I can post up some pics... I bought a Privacy screen that came out to $7.99 including shipping from EBAY. It came with 3 screens, all privacy.... The first one was kind of peeling from the top but did the job... take a look see....the screen is on regular backlight in all pics exept 1
that cut on the top looks crappy.. but the peeling happend to be too from clarivue. it was also around some edges. i liked the screen but i now have a crystal clear... i have tried all but the mirror type protectors... and i will stay with clear...
when i had my screen changed not to long ago i noticed the huge differance in the way the screen look in a privacy vs clear... you cant beat the clear... at least for me.
i gave it some thought... if someone can see my screen well enough to read the screen then they are too damn close to me anyways lol

Same one I got from eBay. The cut on top doesn't obstruct the camera or sensors and the guard goes from top to bottom with no gaps. Buttons and touch are still very sensitive.
If not for that peeling corner (got it here too) this would be a complete WINNAR!
I wouldn';t be able to stand my screen looking that dim and crappy.
What are you guys like porn addicts or something? I know none of you are important enough to have secrets that actually need hidden when you are walking around on your phones.

Yes. We are all very important porn addicts trying to hide our shameful screens. If you're not a fan of privacy screens, that's fine - don't troll a thread that others might find helpful.
You don't have to be a porn fan to want a little privacy the protector are useful if you don't want people seeing your password when your typing or drawing it.. Or your text message.. Privacy screens have more uses than just for porn if you want. I have a launch day evo and my screen still looks awesome with the privacy screen on the mirror protector is not useful it doesn't block anything unless you turn down the display brightness and that's no good cause then you can't see your own screen...

Capacitive Home Button - Light Leak

Hi,
I've recently bought an HTC One V and I noticed that the LED light below the capacitive home button is leaking, even when viewed on a normal angle.
The other capacitive buttons does this as well but only at an extreme angle.
Any of you experiencing this?
TIA!

I just had my unit replaced. No more light leak below the capacitive home button.
I wanted to post images of it, but I need 8 posts to be able to do so.
Anyhow, buyers might want to check the unit first by covering the light sensor on top (to make the capacitive buttons glow).
Thanks for the views XDA people.
I want to make the capacitive lights bright in daylight also, how do I do that?
hey!
guess what? i had the same EXACT problem, except the leak under my multitask button was visible at even normal view. hopefully i'll get my device replaced by a new one tomorrow too.
what did the guys say to you btw? like what all did they ask? just keen to know!
thanks!

I just showed them the unit. They really didn't say anything nor did they argue. Although I did struggle as the store's lights were very bright, so I had to go under a desk just to be able to show it to them (a bit awkward I have to say).
We had to compare with a new unit and it didn't have the light leak below the home button; but when I got home I noticed that it had the leak somewhere else (it looks like a hot pixel, but when you look at it, it's not really part of the screen but in between the glass and the LCD, which is weird). Will go back tomorrow for another replacement.
I guess if you're getting a replacement, try it immediately at a dark place / room to check for light leaks.
i got my unit replaced today!
no more defects anymore, i checked everything before getting home..
how bout you?

The store only had three units on stock.
First and second one both have light leaks, and the third one had yellow spots on the upper left part of the screen + a silvery dot inside the screen sandwiched between the glass also on the upper left corner.
I cancelled my purchase and decided to just buy again when they have sufficient stock of units without defects, or maybe once screen protectors and cases become readily available from retailers.
sir can I know where did you buy One V? I'll buy one this May..just in case..don't end up there
is the attached screenshot below a white leak??
the white leak is very visible on a black background at the bottom of the screen, also the top of the screen has little white leak too.
should i replace this one to the store?

I can find the light leak on mine (in the USB port) in the dark if I'm looking at the phone from beneath it. I suppose some people use their phones that way a lot!
That's so the dust can get in. I think its normal. I have light leak as well in the same spots.

[Q] Scratched One X

Hi,
After using the one x for a while, and seeing a few scratch test on this device i would have thought it would be able to take a bit of scratches as sometimes i put my keys in the same pocket as my phone.
After a while there was a scratch
Anyway i can get rid of it? Its actually hard to notice when the screen is turned on but.
a mobile screen surviving in the pocket with something as rough as keys is an urban legend
always protect your expensive device...

If it is the one I'm thinking of that was hardly a proper test. The attempts to scratch were nothing like what the screen would receive in a pocket pressed up against some keys

I agree, lots of dropping and light tapping. But at no time did she hold a key firmly and drag it over the screen - for a very good reason!

LOL at anyone who puts their keys in the same pocket as their phone, no matter how indestructible the phone claims to be.
I mean...really?
Mine is scracthed on the screen and I don't understand why. I'm always very, very careful.
It fell off my hands before I noticed the scratch, but it's almost impossible that it was due to the fall.

I wish people would stop doing those ridiculous screen test videos tbh. They are never a true representation of actual life.
A better test would be to put a bunch of keys on the screen then drop a paperback book on them, see how that fares.
Google Magic LCD something, then there are home recipies you can follow that have been proven to work.
Cheers
As soon as I unboxed mine, applying the screen protector was the first thing I did.
No way would I put it in my pocket with keys!
So lesson learned for me too. I was also victim of theory that the screens are almost indestructible but today i was closely looking in the reflection of my screen and scratches there are! They are very small and visible only when i looking very closely but it kinda bugging me inside. I will look on some of the screen protections before my OneX screen receive some more.

nt sure if its worth the trouble but as its not very noticeable when the screen is on but i hate imperfections

Best Screen Protector

Hi All,
Currently have a One X, love the phone, apart from the battery life and the locked bootloader. However it has managed to "gain" two 1 cm scratches that are really quite deep and very visible.
So I now have a Blue S3 on order, due with me on Monday, and I don't want to find myself in the same boat in terms of screen scratches, I just can't deal with having the screen messed up (maybe I'm a bit OCD).
Anyway, to the moral of the story, can people please give me suggestions for the best screen protector for the S3, I want to protect but I don't want to take anything away from the screen, I remember putting a zagg on an iPhone 4s, and it took the edge of the clarity of the display, and I don't want that at all for the S3.
I have searched and can't find a similar thread, apologies if there is.
Help greatly appreciated.

Hi, my s3 glass scratched within a week, thankfully around the home button, not the display & I'm pretty obsessively careful. I bought the otterbox commuter case and installed the included screen protector. I can see no effect on the brightness or clarity of the screen, but it was a bugger to get on right & only just covers the display area of the glass, leaving a lip that my finger catches on when I'm swiping from the edges of the screen. It's pretty annoying but I'll live with it for the protection, a bit like using a condom!

Jees, gotta love those folk who feel the need to take the time to post not 1, but 2 totally pointless and non helpful replies, when posting 1 helpful reply or adopting the "I have nothing good to say so I won't say anything" mantra would save him and everyone else the time.
I was hoping for a decent response, so I can order 1 now, so it arrives in time for the phone, which was Monday. So I don't have to go any time without protection, and get a scratch like 1 poster mentions.
IMO the best one is the clear one as i tried many, stay away from the matt or antiglare cause it cause a washed screen and dimmed colours.
They are selling it on ebay a pack of 6 for 3 pounds. hope that will help you
I've had done generic one which came with my case, a momax one and now I'm into a barely there.
The barely there is the best of the ones I've tried. It's matt finish so it does change the look of the screen slightly, it is a tiny but blurred now, but it's quite a small effect and once gotten used to it. The positive effects of using a matt protector are that my screen has no glare or reflection in the light now, making it easier to read when a light source is shining onto it. Also, while the glossy ones quickly become covered in fingerprints, they are quite hard to spot in this one.
It seems to be of decent strength and thickness. Have me a slightly better overlap in the edges than the first two I tried. Worked out cheaper as well ... for a twin pack for the same price as the one momax.

Matte screen protector
I ordered a matte protector for my S3.
Looked and felt really nice, kept finger prints off, but at the end of the day after a week or so i wanted to look at the screen with nothing on it at all. Looks far better.
Maybe a sock or something to keep it in is better than a protector ??

expect your mind to be blown :victory:
Once you get your phone I guarantee that you will never want to go back to a smaller size screen. That's the feeling I got when I had to go back to using my old Mytouch 4g for a bit while getting my Note 2 replaced. But speaking about the screen. Make sure you do some quality checks like dead pixels, stuck pixels, etc. On my first note 2, I noticed that there was what looked like a blob of ink in the middle of the screen that was only noticeable on a dark background. It bothered me enough to do a replacement. The second one that I have now has zero screen issues that I can see. But the home button has a slight amber brown color to it under certain lighting. But it doesn't bother me too much. So in short... Just do your own quality checks while your still in your return period.
My home button feels like something was wrong with it, I don't know how to really explain it, but when I clicked it, it feels like it's not solid or attached correctly, I thought I'd just defective or something.
It's been like that for few weeks until I saw somewhere, use isopropyl alcohol pad to rub the button and click it rapidly, repeat for couple more times, and now my home button feels perfect and solid.
