Mobile Odin - Epic 4G Apps

Hi Guys,
Not sure if anyone has looked into this yet as its pretty new, but Chainfire has built an odin app that can run directly on the phone. Epic 4g is not yet supported but I've provided the info needed to get support (Post# 243). Hopefully we will get support in a near version!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899
EDIT: I discovered xboxfanj has already provided the Epic info a couple days ago (was searching for sph-d700), props to you for submitting first, but it looks like he needs dump from stock RFS filesystem so hopefully my dump (on EI22 deodexed/pre-rooted stock) will satisfy the requirement. Especially because we don't have a EI22 tar yet for an easy way to get back to stock.

A quick look at Chainfire's thread shows that version 1.2 has support for the Epic TOUCH, not the original. I'll try to get a hold of him to see if the Touch at least has enough similarities that the original Epic can also be supported.

Thanks for the clarification, I looked at the newest 1.25v I believe? With no epic support but I never did go to the forums to verify, thanks

Looking for a dk28 deodexed template

Just the template, deodexed, optimized, zipaligned, flashable on rfs, nothing fancy, anyone have a link?
Sent from my Epic 4g
A deodex template doesn't exist for dk28, when it was released here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861220
it was pre rooted, zipaligned, and all before hand thus a deodex was never needed. You can get everything you need from the zip.
I have no clue if the md5 from who's the man is deodexed or not but it doesn't say it is in the thread so I'm guessing it's not. Also note gmail market, etc have still received updates since so beware of those out of date

I believe Nova posted a dk28 stock theme in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853810
Standard version - http://www.ndsico.com/XDA/roms/supernova/NovasThemeStock.zip
CWM3 version - http://www.ndsico.com/XDA/roms/supernova/NovasThemeStockCWM3.zip
Yeah but if you were using them as a base to theme, you would be working on outdated apk so it was just a heads up.

Confusing wording, hes looking for a deodex theme template, an update zip that deodexes a stock phone rop make it compatable with themes. It contains all the stock apps deodexed and zip aligned for speed increases. There is usually one for each rom, but dk28 was a leak and came set up like that from the go.

Not sure what your talking about there. Acs leaked it that is the only way it comes. It's hard to say somethings missing or changed when that is the way it was released? I dont know tbh.
I know they deodexed, zipaligned it as far as taking anything out youll have to pm rjmjr to find out if there is a copy of the original, he'll probably share it.
Edit: now I know what your talking about! I forgot that this build was actually released on the google servers. You probably can find that one using google. Search for Epic 4g gets official froyo. When oft happened the sites mirrored it as official. Its buried here too the google server link but I dont think they are still hosting it since it wasn't supposed to be.

Thanks! Haven't touched Odin in a while, I'm a few updates back. Good to see it'll work on our new phones... now... how come nobody has root yet?
Comming from a Evo 4g...was wondering...I looked at this and it says to hit the 1 key...I am guessing we do not need to do this for the E4T ? And I guess Odin is what we use to flash things to the phone ?
When I did the Evo, I had to do the old school root. Unrevoked and all that was not around lol..
What is Odin?
Just found out I get the phone for free with cyanogen working for Samsung will the phone be worth it or should I stick with my Evo 3d and Droid x? Plus never used Odin before really just helped people root their phones with it along time ago it just unlocks the phone right?

I think I read already. There were screenshots already posted. I should also have this Friday morning if Sprint doesn't open it up Thursday night or Best Buy even.
Correction. This was posted in E4GT General.
You get to *odin mode* by holding down volumne + and - keys at the same time along with the power key, release power key when device turns on while continuing to hold + and - keys untill the droid guy screen comes on, then release.
Glad to see you over here by the way Crawrj. I take it your upgrading as well. Look forward to your first plus kernel for this thing.

yeah like deano said, you can flash ANYTHING. once AdamOutler gets started on development for our device, we will be able to flash custom bootloaders like the Captivate can, for those who dont know, the Captivate was recently able to flash the Nexus S bootloader which means it is basically a Nexus S in disguise lol. Odin will also let us falsh stock and custom ROMs and kerenls as well as Modems (radios) plus recoveries such as CWM.
Also if anything screws up its ur way outta trouble...things such as "omg i'm bricked" and "help i'm stuck on the boot logo" won't be seen as much in the Q and A section as much... get to know Odin referring to people coming from EVO or any other phone Odin is ur new bff

Love Odin
Sounds cool. Ahh starting the learning all over again lol.
Odin is great. It was almost impossible to brick the Epic with it. If you get any kind of phone life, you can almost always get it back to stock and start again. Also, 30 seconds to flash a different modem. We had some great stock GB leaks with Busybox,Superuser included (thanks Crawrj.) Great tool.

Its really not that involved. All you do is put a tar file in "phone" and a pit file in "Pit" and select run and let it do its thing. Modems get flashed in "PDA" section and that's basically it. There is more detail but that's a quick rundown. I am not the most tech saavy myself but you catch on quick. I have used it 50+ times. I will try to run down a more thorough description.

hey barnacles,
if you grab the 'official' rom from miui.com or even the int'l sgs2 miui port from xda, all you need to do is swap the zimage with one of the epic 4g touch's (like LoStKernel) and it will boot up and function (maybe what the OP of this thread did, didn't download to see). Data and wifi were no go. If I remember, the cameras were working though unlike what this OP says. I've been working on this here and there but I definitely dont have as much free time as I'd like as I'm getting ready to move to the other side of the earth.
I'll be more than happy to answer questions and/or help development going as soon as I can put some time aside to work on this.

I'm not a fan of the MIUI ROM(its to iPhone-ish IMHO) but I still wanted to say thank you for this post. Although I know it wasn't its purpose, it did point me to the SkyRocket's Development, and Themes & Apps Section, and man do they have some goodies over there, which I never would've found had it not been for this post, so thanks again!
so you essentially made small tweaks and got aosp based rom from sgs2 int to boot? if so, nice. I wonder if this works with CM7 as well.

Hmmm...then maybe someone with some spare time can look at the portability of the i9000 leak. It is mostly just a theme with a few new apps. Can't see why Samsung would give up so easily on it. Good thing they didn't think GB didn't work well on the Epic after 8 months of test builds.

Coming from an Evo and kind of lost......

Hello everyone I recently bought this touch off of craigslist and am utterly confused on the root process, flashing roms, etc...... First off it was already rooted and using CWM recovery. I found this out after I figured out how to boot into recovery on my new to me phone lol. With the Evo there were some growing pains but I figured it out pretty fast and was flashing like crazy in a couple of days. It's seems this phone is a whole new beast. Im living it so far but I need to know exactly what im up against since I see the phrase "brick your phone way too much already". I've read some threads already but can't quite wrap my mind around it yet so im reaching out, and yes I plan to do a while lot of reading just like I did with the OG Evo. That's not an option right now since my lil sister has been in the ICU in the hospital and I've been spending every waking hour there. Anyway I would just like to know where I stand with the room that is presently on the phone already and what I can do if I wanted to flash something else. Anyway thx for any help given and to those who will surely tell me to read, read, read I will, will, will lol.

Whoops, accidentally hit the thanks button
Anyway it was most likely originally rooted using the EL29 one click found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
This just installed stock firmware (gingerbread build) on the phone that was rooted. From there he probably upgraded to ics using the recovery built in with the EL26 kernel. Most recoveries are safe to use now, just make sure you thoroughly read the OP.
There was also an exploit through which it could have been rooted, but that was patched long ago.

Look in the android development section. It appears you have the Universe rom from several versions back. I would recommend starting off stock rooted for learning purposes. We have a 1 click method for this and you can learn more from the development section and the qbking videos. FI27 is the most recent build number. I have not tried it yet. Last build I ran was FI03.
After you flash a stock rooted rom you will need to flash a kernel. I always used agats kernel and consider it safe. Good luck and read, read, read before you jump into anything.

If you plan on checking out Kuban,I recommend the link in my sig. The flash procedure also works for many other roms, but until you are really comfortable I would always follow the op directions in whatever ROM you choose to flash. You picked a good phone with a great community. Lots of very helpful people here, even though we lost quite a few to the s3.
I have an OG EVO and my wife has the E4GT. I rooted it yesterday afternoon in about 15 minutes' time. Definitely not the same as rooting the EVO. While it's different, I think it swayed me towards going with the SGS III when my upgrade comes up next month. Looking forward to playing with the E4GT some more-if the wife lets me

I'm pretty comfortable with most things already lol. Used to flash all kinds of things on my Evo, but this phones blows it out of the water.

I hear you, I never even played with an E4GT before I bought it I just saw how great the S3 looked and felt in the sprint store and loved it. Since I refuse to sign a new 2 year contract I always stay at least a model behind and just go to craigslist.
htc phones and samsung are quite different i had an evo and it takes me twice as long to root it compared to samsung. but samsung seems easier to brick.
