Recovery - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What other recoverys are there for the Dinc
best Dincredible

There is the amon_ra recovery, but I can't speak to its quality as I only use clockworkmod recovery
Sent from my HTC Incredible

Plus almost all developers roms are made for clockwork mod. I think you can use among_RA but they recommend cwm. And I can't say anything too because I only use cwm

Clockwork Recovery

Was the clockwork recovery image built specifically for this or is it the same one used for the mytouch/g1/nexus ect?
Wondering just because I prefer to use Amonra's Recovery on my G1 and the Mytouch regular I have.
So basically wanted to know if I could use this on the Mytouch Slide too.
Wondering before I flash and accidentally brick it for doing something before making sure others think it is okay.
You actually CANNOT flash a new recovery, the only known method for changing the recovery is through the ENG-BUILD. Amon Ra's were built specifically for each device though.
I guess it would be POSSIBLE in THEORY to boot another recovery the same way we boot Clockwork, but you'd have to ask Eugene that.

[Q] What is the best Recovery image?

So tell me guys, wich is the best recovery for my Desire?
I just want to intsall the latest and greatest custom roms without having problems with mounting issues or script languages or so. what is the stablest?
So? CWM2.5.0.7 or CWM3 or even 4?
Or should i use amonra or some of the mods?
Thanks
I used CWM, but then installed AmonRA 2.0.1 - it installed everything for me (AOSP, Sense based, Miui).
But if you want to use CWM, I'd recommend 3.1.0.1.
First, check the erasesize of your device: if it is 40000, then you can only use AmonRA. If anything other, it's your choice.
i have one of the first desires with amoled screen and the smaller erasesize.
currently i am using psfmod wich is based on cwm 2.5.0.7 or so.
i know i can use any recovery on my device but i want to know wich is the best in terms of stability and usability and even the one without bugs and the abillity to install all the latest roms.

Check these two threads, they touch upon the same topic and there are many replies.
yeah thanks.
seems like sticking with my current recovery is the best choice till i will reach a point where i need a newer recovery for installing a new rom.

Froyo to gingerbread

Ok I rooted my friends EVO last year and it still has froyo . Ive had a 3d since it first came out and I'm a little behind on the OG EVO. Do I need to update the recovery first or can I install a gingerbread ROM . He still has clockwork recovery . Will amon 2.3 install if hes still running Froyo?

Reocvery will work regardless of your rom. He can contiue to use clockwork [now up to 5.0.0] or he can switch to amon ra. Though if he switches, he'll need to make a new backup because he won't be able to restore cwm backups. Then just flash a rom like normal and you you'll be on your merry way.

[Q] Recoveries

My first question is, why does the Incredible need two recoveries? When I came from my other phone, Amon Ra was far superior to CWM and it appears the same with the Incredible, so why do the Devs design everything to work with CWM? Next question is what's the difference? They both are suppose to do wipes, flashes, backups, restores etc etc..so why would one work when dealing with certain ROMs and the other would not?

It dosen't need two, but choice is good.
There isnt much difference. Cwm is easier to navigate, and has a few more options than amon. Also cwm is needed for rom manager which is a pretty popular app.
Both amon and cwm should work with all roms or mods, but since most devs use cwm when building their mods and roms they sugest you use it too because that way they know it should work since thats their setup. I know the fresh roms for the evo require amon ra for their updater app.
Actually CWM is prevalent over AmonRa on the Incredible...that's why devs design for that. AmonRa is there, yes, but CWM is what (at least as far as I know, I could be wrong, I don't speak for anyone but myself) most people use. Just look at signatures. Most say their recovery is CWM 3.x or 5.x.
I see what you're saying. I never had luck with Rom Manager, and I did use CWM for a while but to me Amon Ra has more options and is way faster. I would think for noobs that CWM would be better. When I first rooted my first phone I used the crap out of Rom Manager lol. Now I don't use that app. Thanks for the input though.

Go from 4EXT Recovery to Clockwork Recovery?

Hello
Ive found out that 4EXT sucks (too slow) and I want to go back to Clockwork. Will a simple flash do?
Thanks
Which version of 4EXT are you using? I'm finding it generally a lot better than using the touchpad in CWM recovery. Anyway, even if you still do definitely want to rid yourself of 4EXT, just download ROM manager from the Play store and follow the instructions from there on. I wouldn't recommend downloading the touch version (5.8.x) from the CWM site as I found this so unstable as to be unusable.
Agree with htcdreamon here, 4ext not only has more features but also does backups faster as well as flashes, but what do I know.....
ROM manager should work fine but I prefer fastboot as the least automation possible makes me feel the most comfortable, and its faster
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
If you need further help on this check out my thread on using fastboot found in the general section

4EXT is very slow and even freezes up some times. Never had this problem with CWR.
For the record I am on 1.0.0.3 RC3
I have 4EXT Recovery Touch v1.0.0.5 RC9 and I haven't problems with this recovery
When I used my G2, 4ext worked fine for me.

Only problem I've ever had with 4EXT is when recently I tried MIUI out of interest (never used it before) and when I did a full wipe it got stuck on wiping sd-ext so I had to do a battery pull, but I ended up ballsing my sd-ext partiton up. Had to reformat my SD card.
Also, all my partiions are currently ext4; Clockwork is compatible right?
Anything I should take in account for?
