NFC Problems - Samsung Captivate Glide

According to GSMArena our cappy glides are equipped with NFC. I've downloaded a few apps from the Android Market that use NFC or are made just for NFC. They force quit before the program even launches.
Any suggestions? Is NFC disabled in the stock firmware by chance?

AFAIK we don't have nfc

That'll suck. Its a feature I was looking forward to.

I don't think built-in NFC will be such an issue, as SIM cards will have NFC onboard some day. So hang tight!

Isn't wifi-direct a form of NFC transfer?
I've used it multiple times, on a flashed 4.04 ICS

How to Check if NFC works?

Hey guys, I bought these batteries (a set of 3) and an external charger to charge them from eBay for about 12 bucks from somewhere in Asia. I assumed they were generic ones, but as I got them today they were branded as Samsung and says it's NFC capable. It looks exactly like the stock battery that came with the GNex. Anyways, I'm probably 95% certain that it's just a generic battery that the company slapped a Samsung sticker on it to make it look more legit. Either way I was wondering how to check if NFC does work, I don't have another GNex to test it on. Is there an app that you guys know of that checks if NFC works?
Any response would be appreciated, thanks!
I don't know of an app that checks if NFC works. Afaik you will have to find another phone with NFC or go to a PayPass location.

Damn! Alright. Was hoping there was an app. Thanks man.
Try scanning your passport that have a bio-metric chip, if there is a sound, then NFC is working.
This is if your passport's bio-metric chip can be picked up by NFC scanners.
I have one of these cards. When I hold it against my GNex, the phone makes a sound. I'd imagine this is the NFC at work. Have you got a similar card that you could try?
if you have a card or a tag that uses NFC download NXP NFC scanner from the play store....it scans any NFC tags
Thanks for all of your responses guys! I'll see what I can do. I'll probably just have to wait till I see my gf later this week and use her Nexus. Was just eager to see if the batteries were legit.
If you have a tablet or another phone with NFC, turn both on and tap them together (the backs). you should hear a sound.
I think this is how you can tell. thanks.

NFC tags for the S3

So which NFC tags have you purchased that work well?
EDIT: Probably should've posted this in the Accessories forum. Mods - feel free to move this if it isn't Kosher.
I bought a 5-pack of the Samsung TecTiles and they work great. They allow for 1K storage which is good if you plan on putting a lot of data or things on them.
Purchased some from tag stand a while back, they come in different sizes and they work fine with the s3

How much did you guys pay? Wondering if there's any real difference between the different brands besides size.
I got them for around $15, they came in different sizes.
something like this: http://www.tagstand.com/collections/nfc-kits/products/nfc-hobbyist-starter-kit-15-stickers
Is it just me or are the official TecTiles almost worthless?
Is seems they can each only do 1 single function and the phone needs to be unlocked to activate them.
For instance, say I have the TT programmed to connect to a specific WiFi network. This only works if WiFi is turned on and the phone isn't already locked. You can't have it:
a) Turn on WiFi first
b) Connect to a specific network.
Instead, you have to unlock phone, and turn on WiFi manually. Makes it kind of pointless to just TAP and be done with it.
Maybe its just the Samsung app, it's extremely limited. Are there better apps?

Haven't used it yet but this sounds like what you might be looking for:

I got the tiles from Samsung. I'm going to use them for putting my phone into silent when I put my phone on my nightstand. I think that going with Samsung's official ones are the best.
Haven't looked too much into what can be done with tags. But, could I for instance set one up to turn on my bluetooth and pair it with my car when I get into my car? And also unpair and turn off bluetooth when I get out?

I'm not so sure about that. I've heard some of the aftermarket ones work just fine.
I got mine here http://tagsfordroid.com/tags/Home.html
10 of them plus a free key fob for $16 and fast free shipping. All of them work perfectly. I use NFC task launcher to write them
Wow, I had no clue an nfc chip could do that. So stick one in your car and program it to do certain things! That is great. I need to get some of these.

Awesome! That is exactly what I was looking for! You can chain many commands! Leaps and bounds beyond the official Samsung app! Thanks!

Nfc key fob

Is it possible to use my phone as a key fob for my apartment complex? Or say my workplace?
I saw the big confirmed NFC list elsewhere, but was curious of anyone has tried or knows about this.
Thanks

This has been talked about before, no you cant, its not using the same technology. The easiest way to check this is to get the NFC reader for your phone and try to read whatever your trying to use, like a security card for the building, it will not read it and this will tell you its not the same. I had the same idea as at work I have a Prox II card to get in and around the building, tried to read it and it would not work, I checked the web and sure enough its not the same frequency or something along those lines. At this time its only good for paying at places that have the ability and messing with your own tags.
Where is the actual NFC device? Is it in the Battery?
Im curious if it's upgradable (aftermarket, of course) to add on more frequencies

For the S3 it is in the battery as you say. So an aftermarket battery will likely not have the NFC functionality in there that you would like.

Unless it specifies that it has a NFC chip in it. I know some do.

[Q] Google Wallet on the GNEX

I recently upgraded the battery to a 3800 mah battery. I understand that the battery does not have an imbedded nfc antenna. Will this effect the function of the google wallet app?
Thanks for your help.
Yes I believe so, need NFC to use wallet tap to pay I'm pretty sure.
I think some company does make NFC capable big ol batteries like the one you got tho.
The NFC chip is located within the battery. Without that nfc will not function.
I haven't used Gwallet for a while though so I do not know if anything has changed in regards to how it operates. I know when I used it it NEED NFC to work. Don't know if that changed

Google has blocked the galaxy nexus from using wallet. People have been searching for a work around although none have been found yet.
I suspect the only way we may ever regain functionality is through the 3.4 kernel. It's still got a long way to go. The Devs involved in the porting process have hit a hiccup in getting the display working.

I was wondering about this. I'm on a 4.4 Rom, but Wallet still says tap and pay is "not available". So that's a known issue?

Question Is it possible to emulate NFC tags/cards on Pixel Watch?

For example, using Pixel Watch as a NFC key tag to open the door.

Theres 1 app for phone at least that im aware of and that i have tried that claimed to support virtual cards/tags for doing as youre asking, but ive never gotten one to work. Apparently a mixed bag for the few people who claim to have gotten it working
Assume probably less likely to appear on a WearOS watch
