Funny how the ebay wet screen protectors are better than ANY brand name one. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I usually use static screen protectors, and over the years I've found that the ebay ones are always the best. Well, with the nexus I decided to go wet because of the curved glass. I purchased the expensive ones first....all were crap. Bad feel, orange peel, etc (tried XO, zagg, etc).
So I decided to give the $5 full body one on ebay a shot. I put the body pieces on first (back side of phone) and was surprised at the feel and clarity. So today I decided to put the screen protector part on, and here's what I found:
Perfect fit, absolutely no orange peel (maybe just a LITTLE at very extreme angles...definitely can't tell), feels better than any high priced ones I've used so far, and the haze is drying up quicker than any of the other ones.
I don't know what it is, but ebay screen protectors are ALWAYS better than the high priced brand name ones. I've had a ton of experience with this stuff (since the first iphone came out I've tried many different brands).
My advice: stick away from expensive ones and get the cheap ebay ones which are very superior.

BTW, here's the screen protector I'm using. I purchased his full body set (which you can find in his store link), but if you want the screen protector only:

Still collects fingerprints, but not as many as the bare screen.
Feels more like a plasticy/smooth texture, unlike the more expensive ones I've used which feel rubbery. I HATE the rubbery feel.

Thanks, ordered one to try it.
I had zagg on my last phone, absolutely hate it. Its good for fingerprint oil, but the rubbery texture and orange peel is a major turn off.

Did you apply it using water/soap like it says on the page or did you just remove the protective sticker and just pressed the file to your phone ?
I want to order but I don't wanna wet any surface of the phone as long as possible.

I used a water/soap mixture.
Pretty much impossible to get it on right without that.

ok, thanks. Guess I'll just keep looking

Question if you have to use water/soap to apply the protector isn't there a possibility to ruin the phone.? i mean what if the water gets inside the phone.?

You use a small amount of water and soap. You dont dip your phone in a water/soap mixture. If your phone gets damaged....you're doing it wrong.
What concerns me is the condition of the screen after the protector is removed. It worries me that the adhesive that holds the protector to the screen my not be easily removed.

I just received this last night and installed it.
It much better than Zagg on my moto triumph.
Much less orange peel effect
slightly less rubbery texture
no oil/fingerprint
a lot easier to install than Zagg.

does it cover the entire screen? I bought a pack of protectors from Verizon and was VERY disappointed. The damn things only cover the portion of the screen that is lit up.
I'm looking for something that will go on edge to edge and be invisible. It would also have to be a wet-type because of the curvature.
I've been using it neeked like I have with my N1 and G2x. I do have a protector on my Transformer because of the large screen... it's edge to edge and I don't even notice it. Thats what I'd like for the Nexus. I can feel a lip around the edge that the protector would butt up against.

I've used many screen and full body skins on various devices and never had problems removing them or residue left behind. Now I can't comment on these cheap off brand type, but I imagine they're really just the same thing as the name brand ones, but sold at closer to the real cost and without the gimmick marketing.

If you look at the picture of the ebay auction you'll notice that it covers everything except the speaker and a has an opening over the front-facing camera...I just ordered one myself as well as an SGP (thin plastic-feel rather than soft silicone-feel) from Amazon as they just got back in stock today.

To all who have bought this eBay screen protector, would you describe the protector as glossy, or an anti-glare-matte texture?

To all that have purchased this ... would you say the protectors look exactly like they do in the photo? ie cut out the same as the photo shows?
Thanks

Best screen protector for Swyping?

While I do like Swyping, I find that it becomes difficult as one's hands get a tiny bit sweaty or even dirty. You fingers seem to stick to the screen which makes Swyping fairly difficult and almost impossible to be accurate. While I do try to be as clean as possible, sometimes your hands get sweaty for whatever reasons such as if you wear gloves or keep them in your pockets for a while.
I am just wondering if there is a screen protector out there that allows for a totally smooth surface, despite any sweat, dirt or other things that could be on your fingers? I recently got the Realooks and while they are very clear and does a good job resembling the feeling of the bare screen, it has the same issues while Swyping. There may even be a little bit more of a finger resistance with the Realooks on.
I was thinking and thought that maybe a screen protector with a matte finish would be ideal for Swyping. Matte screen protectors are smooth and most are anti-fingerprint which I assume would be very good for Swyping.
Has anyone had any experience with a matte finish screen protector while Swyping?
Any suggestions overall?
i use an anti-glare screen protector from Clarivue (.com) that is matte finish and has a very smooth surface that makes using swype very comfortable and easy. I used clarivue on my N1 as well when i had swype, and i recently got the captivate and i couldnt live without the smooth surface from the screen protector so i had to buy another pack. it is anti scratch and anti smudge, although from what ive seen, it does affect the clarity of the amoled to a certain extent.
I use whatever screen protector that my AT&T store sold - works well with swype.
i have something similar to the invisashield body shield but i cant remember who made mine. i ordered off ebay an in came in an envelope with no branding. like someone with a laser etcher/cutter got a hold of the material and made it in his garage. it has the typical invisishield orange peel look but feels like it has natural oils in it. it is always very slick and doesn't show finger prints. it never feels greasy or sticky or dry. just slightly oily but i have heard that's not typical of the invisishield brand so it might not be the same material. if i come across the add ill post it.
also antiglare protectors are good for that but the ones i bought had bad adhesive on the edges, also i find that anti glare have a good amount of reflection to them and are only better than hard plastic protectors that can be milky, i can read through an invisishield in sunlight better than an anti glare and no screen protector at all is better than that.
Skinomi...I dig it.

Agreed.
Plus these screen protectors cover the entire front of the phone. Can't even tell it's on there. I've seen others that only cover the display area.

Gorilla glass with no screen protector.

Trying to find a particular screen cover.

My protector had a slight 'scratch' on it, and in my annoyance, I went to replace it with one of the two remaining in my VZW/HTC pack (luckily not on the real screen though.) Crap managed to slip between the screen & protector on number 2, and number 3 had residue on the screen side, even though the dual-cover was still on it correctly.
I dropped by VZW to buy more, but instead of getting whichever version I had before, the rep gave me some anti-glare ones in the same packaging. I hate them. Every pixel looks like it's shining through frosted glass, and it's ruining my movie/tv experience.
Catch is, I never wrote down the type of protector I had before (it was glossy and easily reflected light,) but didn't degrade the image while using the display. Does somebody know the type offhand?
Or, even better, can anyone recommend a better protector if one exists? $16 for 3 tiny sheets of clear plastic seems like highway robbery.
I've always used the cheap generic ones on eBay that come from Hong Kong after having a surprisingly good one on my PSP.
Though you run the slight chance of running into a seller that has the low quality screen protectors (I've had a coworker that received some that had light scratches immediately, as you're running your fingers across it), it's still a relatively cheap gamble (less than $5).
The good ones are scratch-resistant, do not take away any quality from the screen, and are barely noticeable. The only downside, they pick up fingerprint oils VERY easily. If that bothers you, have a microfiber cloth with you. IMO they are on par with the Steinheils.
I bought mine before the Thunderbolt's release (to prepare for its arrival!) for $3.80 for 6x screen protectors. They're still within the same price range.

Those are the best screen protectors I've ever used. I have the ultra clear one and I can't tell that it's there. And it's super smooth!
It does get pretty fingerprinty though and I've heard good things about their "anti-fingerprint" line. It's worth a look if you care about that kind of stuff.

The anti-fingerprint ones are matte. They have that frosted look. Personally, I prefer ghost armor or ZAGG over the stienheils. It's because I like wet application though so I don't get crap stuck between the screen and the screen protector.

Use that link and order the ultra fine screen protector. It's the yellow one and is anti-fingerprint. The way these screen protectors feel are fantastic. They're super smooth and glide very easily. Comparatively speaking, the zagg shields IMO are sticky. I also feel weird getting my phone wet to put on a screen protector. Just me though....

Looking for a Screen Protector

I'm trying to buy a screen protector preferably with a matte finish. I like the fact that its a smooth finish allowing for easy gliding with your fingers. I also looked up crystal clear ones but I do not know how they feel to the touch. Also I'm trying to look for ones with good cutouts (NOT like this: http://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-Anti-G...8-6&keywords=galaxy+s3+screen+protector+matte). Can anyone give me some input or links on amazon?
Have you looked into the Spigen SGP Flex HD screen protectors?

It's wet application, so I don't know how comfortable you feel about installing them.

Do your fingers glide across it easily or does it kinda stick? I've put invisible shields on my phones before and I hate that its sticky (even when I first applied it) and the orange peel/yellowing effect
From what I know, the Flex HD is pretty smooth to the touch and you won't have to worry about any orange peel/yellowing effect because it's a high quality product.

not sure about the matte finish or the glide for you, but i can tell you i've had 3 screen protectors on my galaxy s3.
first there was the ZAGG. expensive, full body, etc. the screen protector was decent enough, very plyable and stretchy. uses that press and peel install method. cutouts for the phone suck though. they are cut-downs, not cut outs. more area is exposed than needed. i never did like the feel of it either once it was on. that and the store guy goofed the install, so...tore that off.
then there was the protector that came with Incipio case i bought. way different material. stiff and rigid, a harder plastic feel than the soft plyable ZAGG. i think this is that "crystal" type protector. but the cutouts were worse on this than the ZAGG. even more area exposed because of big cut downs on the top and bottom (lots of area exposed up top basically stretching end to end) i did install it though, and i liked the feel and glide more than the ZAGG. it seems more "slippery". unfortunately the top two corners never took (they are awfully pointy due to the big exposure up top). they seemed to be bent up in the packaging. and so that screen protector also came off (i do like the incipio case though).
now i'm onto the Skinomi. came with a skin. the cut outs are actual cut outs. no cut downs, no extra exposure. install was a little harder due to alignment, i swear i think they cut it small. i did get everything to line up eventually though. old school install with the spray bottle. material of the Skinomi is probably more ZAGG than Incipio-like, but it's not quite as plyable as the ZAGG. I do actually like the feel on my finger with the Skinomi. It's not the same feel as the Incipio though, it has a little more "sticky" to it than the hard protector did. pretty pleased with it tho, and it's working thus far.... :good:
anyway, if that helps, cool. if not, thanks for the vent.
Moshi is nice and anti glare... It does cover edge to edge but the blue trim covers up the blue pebble finish. I have the sgp nano optics on the way...

Anyone plan to sell their second piece of their flex hd? =)
I saw in a review video from a guy who posted it on this forums said it had a rubber feel to it. I'm a swype user and I hate when my finger gets stuck because of that rubber feeling. When I felt matte for the first time, it glided so easily that I would never have problems swyping.

I was never a fan of Zagg products, until I had the HD screen protector installed on my S3. Perfectly clear, and its 100x smoother than regular Invisishield products. Id recommend it to anyone.
so I've had a chance to try a few different screen protectors already and I've found that the edge of the S3 display has a slight curve making it difficult for screen protectors to stay down.
the edges on 3 different sp's have done this. I've tried a full screen and then a few that were smaller than the display and still have issues.
The issue is that thick screen protectors just lift up off the curved display over time..
It sounds like wet SP installs are going good though?

I snagged the Incipio Sicrylic (sp?) off ebay. It's the soft rubber case with the two pieces. A snug rubber piece, and an outer "shell" that snaps onto the rubber case. Works really well actually. My daily case at the moment (better than the vent samsung with coin holder, and a straight skin from skinomi - i have the carbon skin)
I could post a link, but I'm a newb and so that's not allowed. I'll try to take a picture or sometghing and update this or my earlier post. Spent all this money on acc's...might as well share with folks so they don't have to repeat my mistakes....
and to the other poster who mentioned wet installs going well - i'll have to agree. vs the peel install on zagg, and the rgular install on the incipio crystal, i've ben happiest with my work and the protector after the wet install on the skinomi.

Screen protector, yes or not?

I have the device for some time now, I clean the screen when it dirty, and when not used, it either docked in it's dock for charge, or stored in my SENA leather pouch, is there still any need for a screen protector? I do baby my devices, I have some old SE K800, that now my mom use, and except some very little scratches, on the screen (it actually made of glass with some nice layer of anti reflect :good, it looks like new, I don't put my devices in pockets of my jeans or so, as I always go around with a backpack with all my stuff, be the smartphone in separate pocket.
I read some thread around the net, from what I understood, there a couple types of screen protectors:
dry or wet installation, and glare or anti glare, some has oleophobic layer, there even a glass protector to protect the glass to protect the glas LOL.
I do like how anti glare once, look indoors, and outdoors, but as for the quality of the display quality, it not worth it, you have an HD resolution display, even though it's a PenTile type, it still on paper has HD resolution, anti glare just make it look so bad, I don't know how the more pricey ones, work with it, but if I compare it to my 24" IPS DELL computer display, it's difference of day and night (and in negative form, DELL is much better), so yes I do hate the glare, it much easier to read from matte display, but it the manufacturer thought it need to be glare, and there no option to choose matte or glare (like you have in let say, laptops), I don't know how you guys like anti glare screen protectors.
Then there the standard screen protector we all know, the problem is, they just don't feel like the sleek cool glass, it harder to swipe, and play games with them, I know it's not Gorilla glass, but I just hate to buy a device for resale value, I like all about it, and I don't have the money to replace device every then and now, also I don't run after the newest and best devices at all, when I understood I need a NEXUS, then all I buy is NEXUS, just for the NEXUS experience, and thats basicly all I care about, not that much about the specs, as I don't have so much of a choice, because it's NEXUS.
Also, I just hate dry installation screen protectors, and the one, that we have for the device, not cover all the screen, because it curved, so I maybe consider, a wet installation protector, but then again, they from what I seed, has a weird orange peel feel, and they not feel like the glass, at all, so I just don't know, do I need or don't ? I just like to feel the device, like it is, actually I use the SENA pouch, because I use the dock to charge the device, and don't want to wear the USB port, and that the best and only choice, that feel and looks nice, and protect the device very well, also the screen. as it inside made of soft velvet material, and also, I just can't use any other type of case, as I need it be easily removed from the device, when I need a charge, if I did..the case would wear and tear very fast, and get scratched, and what not.
Thoughts?
I ran a screen protector on my old Galaxy SII and it was fine. However I tried to install a screen protector on my GNEX and because of the curved glass it just wouldnt install good enough for me. So I don't have one. I have owned the phone for almost a year now and no major scratches. I don't use a case either, a few minor dings from small drops but nothing to bad. This phone is pretty tough, at least for me.
I don't want to be paranoid it'll scratch, the thing is, that again, when it not in use, the screen get scratch protection, when in the SENA case, but I want to preserve it for at least some years, or till Google stop update it. in conclusion: anti-glare is good for direct light source, but damage the image quality; wet apply is easy to install, but feels like orange peel LOL, and looks like orange peel; so my only option is normal screen protector then, but which?
There are chapo eBay like 10 for 5$ or so, are they any good? just don't feel like wasting my money for accessory, that I may not like, and another problem, it's problematic to resell, it's not a case or bluetooth speaker..
Maybe some manufacturers has some money back program, if the customer not satisfied with they product? What is the best screen protector out there that:
1. don't cover the edges of the display
2. has oleophobic layer, just like the GNEX screen has?
3. reduce some glare, but not matte type
*If there a wet install protector, that actually feel good, and not rubbery, I also welcome it.
I have used them in the past, but the screen is so much better without them. I take the minor scratches (those you only see under a certain angle/lighting) with it. I have the phone most of the time in the pocket of my jeans. I do remove any dirt/sand from my pocket one a day.
And the oleophobic layer is good for a month ore so, it wears of quickly.
I have a Spigen SGP screen protector since I bought my GNex ad i?m totally satisfied about it.
---------- Post added at 04:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:21 PM ----------
Edit.
Have just started using a extreme guard wet apply protector, but some people don't like it. It's fine with me honestly, grabbed one since it was like 5 bucks for 2 including international shipping. The oleophobic coating on the gnex wears out fast, feels good at first, then it's kind of rough when it wears out a little, one of the motivating factor I got a screen protector as well.
Beamed from my Maguro
if possible, use various films..
You may find the film you like whether it is needed or not.
Generally with a screen protector you feel more confident and convenient
i offer Buff ones.so perfect...
Had an anti-glare.....didn't like it.
My cat likes to gnaw on my phone so the screen protector now has a few scratches, unlike the screen.
Best ones I've ever used were from Bodyguardz. I had to smash my phone screen in a rock to get out of a jam and it didn't even hurt the phone. They also don't change the look of the screen at all like anti glare ones will. Only thing better would likely be the tempered glass variety.

Taking pics too close to flood waters full of rocks and was swept into them. Had my phone in hand whole time. Even soaked the phone but worked next day after it dried. And no marks on the screen at all

1 year and a half with my GNexus without screen protector, no scratches yet but I think I got luck, dropped 2 times but always on the back side
I buy this one at January of this year and for sure its best screen protector i find, The pack have 3 but i only use one and dont need to replace yet.
No marks, no texture, very good deal in my opinion.
Search on Ebay for "New 3x CLEAR Screen Protector Guard Cover Film Samsung Google Galaxy Nexus i9250" the vendor name is "rockymobile"
I
Same here.. Never used a screen protector and never had a need for one.. Even with my keys in the same pocket I've never scratched my screen.

my solution is using a "smaller" size protector which is not cutting according the glass size. It avoids to fit the curved face so the protector signally smaller then the screen glass. I found this type of the protector on the shop and still using it happily. It is petty match with the soft case because the soft case will covered the curved face that protector doesn't. And you don't worry the soft case will tilt the protector up.
I vote no.
Had 1 on 6 months ago since it was included/installed when I purchased, along with a rubber case.
But after testing out another GN without it, it just felt so much smoother, so took it off, but keep the case, which helps keep a grip from slips/drops
I use protector from 1 year ago and I dont have problems using touch and everything is smooth.

Screen Protectors?

So since this phone is so inexpensive, are we going to get screen protectors for it? Or just let it go? I'm probably going to get something simple, like this one, just for some basic protection. Is anyone else planning on getting any sort of protection?
Thanks in advance!
I bougth one and after 2 weeks is scratched and has a crack so you should no spend your money on this
Yeah, the tempered glass screen protector is pretty good.
i usually just let it go, feel better than cover any protectors
Hi:
I depends on how do you use you screen.
I have own a Galaxy S, SIII and now this Moto E 2015 , and never ever used a screen protector. No scratches on screen. Nevertheless I know some people using the phone as a kitchen cutting table and have the same results (as the kitchen table).
Gorilla glass is pretty hard though.
I actually have screen protectors on my devices just so because it feels good to know there's an added protection. You may want to check this one.
The Tempered film is a better choice.
Where i live in Canada i could not find one in store.
I was able to see a couple cases but they were super cheaply made and super expensive (in my Mall)
So i didn't buy a case.. i also didn't want a bulky case because i lucked out and found a sweet belt clip case at Wallmart.
The case from Wallmart fits my dimensions perfectly for the phone and has my phone attached to my belt now
I like using my phone to listen to music while i ride my mountain bike.
So what i ended up doing is getting an iPhone 6 protective film for $2 and i just trimmed the top off and laid it on top my phone.
i have 95% of it covered and it looks ok.. i had done a better job but i tried to make it perfect and screwed it up.
Pro Tip: Don't be a perfectionist when making your own cut and paste protective film LOL
Also..
I could have gotten a protective film from a kiosk in my local Mall that is suppose to be strong etc.
The kiosk custom cuts the protective material for any device from watches to phones, so i *could have done that.
But, they wanted about $35 can. after taxes for my cheap phone so i said no thanks.
I do want to ask any of you out there a question (i am fairly new to android phones only had a S3 for a few months before)
What i want to know is are the Gorilla glass screen good enough that i can just ditch the plastic film stuff ?
Like i have seen some guys say online that they don't bother putting a protective skin on the phone.
So what do you guys think ? Maybe i should ditch the protective plastic stuff on my phone ?

gorilla glass is preatty hard, it can survive some hard things like keys or somethig made of metal but there are things that can easy scrach it - for example sand (because it's harder than glass). I can't recommend plastic screen protectors, they do the job but they are real fingerprints magnets. It's impossible to keep it clean. I think you should buy glass protector, you can find cheap ones on some chineese sites with free shipping (it takes like month but I think it's worth)
Today I got my 3$ tempered screen protector form Chinese auction site. The shipping was free, it should take more than 30 days according to info on the site but I've waited only 12 days. IMO the glass quality is very good but it's my first tempered glass protector. Instalation process was easy (even without instruction on the box but there is a lot of videos on YouTube about instalation) though I have small air bubble around proximity sensor. It's my first glass so maybe I've done something wrong. Anyway I'm very happy, I had plastic foil before and it's like day and night. The fell of the glass under the finger is great. IMO this 3$ glass is a great deal.
I bought my one here http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2-5D..._77_91_80,searchweb201644_5,searchweb201560_9
Edit
Today that bubble dissapered for itself, now it sticks perfectly. For 3$ I'm more than happy.
Just go get one from XtremeGuard and use a coupon to bring the price down to like $2.
tyvm got all the info i need here

I had something like that on my last phone and it got really scratched after 1 week, mostly from this metal things around pocket in jeans pants. It made screen look grainy too but it was pretty comfortable to use in sunlight.

Ahhh I see, well you could get a case that covers the screen, that way it doesn't get grainy or scratched. Regardless of the screen or screen protector, I think it's not recommended to place your phone on the same pocket you have your keys in, or other metal things.

I think about those two metal spots around pocket in most of jeans' pockets. I just want to say that it won't suit for every people, I used something like that and I was really mad about how it made my screen grainy and how soft it was although it performed preatty good in sunlight and fingerprints wasn't so visible. Then I had non matte one, screen looked better but it was real fingerprints magnet. It was harder but still It got scratched after some time. Now I have glass and for me it's the best choice. It's very transparent, very hard and it's not so bad with fingerprints but it's thick so it can colide with some cases (not an issue for me). That's just my opinion about thoose protectors.

Well I bought mine for 2$ on chinese site (aliexpress). It's cheap, preatty easy to install, very scratch resistant and very clear, screen looks bright and it feels great under the finger. The downsides are that it's thick so it won't work well with every case, I use it with orginal grip shell and it's good combo because of the case design: http://forum.android.com.pl/uploads/monthly_12_2015/post-142525-0-25574200-1451048167.jpg The second problem is that the oleophobic coating wears off but after 2-3 months it's still not so bad (but it was better when it was new).
