[MOD] BRD Launcher 2.0 | 240dpi Optimized | 6x6 / 7x6 NoSearch | Resize ALL Widgets! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

***Click Here for a tutorial on changing your lcd density***
Launcher now runs side by side with stock launcher!
I highly recommend flashing the stock launcher back to have as backup after installing this if you have used version 1.0 before.
Stock ICS Launcher: ZIP
Here is a modified stock launcher optimized for a modded lcd density of 240 dpi. While it will run on a stock 320 dpi Nexus, it will be so messed up it will be unusable. Landscape mode is fully working. Your feedback is appreciated!
I can make different icon grids based on request (5x5 or 6x5 for example). Eventually i want to make it so that the user can change this from the app itself.
Home Screens:
6x6 Icon Grid / 7x6 No Search Bar
7 Icon Bottom Bar (aka Hotseat)
Resize ALL Widgets (after adding a widget you have to pick it up and drop it again to enter resize more)

}
App Drawer:
6x7 App Icons / 9x5 (landscape)
2x4 Widgets / 3x3 (landscape)
Changelog:
Version 2.0:
- Added a 7x6 desktop no search bar version (for use in portrait only)
- All apps button animation has been modified to prevent seeing apps on the next homescreen over
- Moving an existing app/widget uses the tablet like overview mode
- Resize all widgets! (After adding a widget, pick it up and drop it again to enter resize mode)
- All apps drawer: 6x7 portrait / 9x5 landscape
- Now a separate app form the stock launcher, to allow side by side use
Version 1.0:
- Initial Release
Downloads:
Code:
adb remount
adb push C:\PATH_TO_APK\BRD_Launcher.apk /system/app/BRD_Launcher.apk
apks must be pushed to /system/app with adb!
Version 2.0: 6x6 w/ Search APK / ZIP
Version 2.0: 7x6 (No Search Bar) APK / ZIP
Version 1.0 (Old) ZIP

First of all, everything is going to be smaller of course. However some apps (only a few really) are reformatted and look a little different (and better imo). I am actually surprised how well apps handle this dpi (although mostly its because 240 is the dpi of many of the phones from last year). My old phone had problems with a few apps using a changed dpi, but with the nexus i havent seen much issues.
Some key differences:
- Market now has 2 columns instead of one when listing apps
- Contact pictures are much smaller in the favorites tab
- Contact info had a small icon of contact on left (static) with all of the contact info as a scrolling pane on the right.
- Launcher used to have small 4x4 grid in centered on screen, but fixed with this mod.
I would post some screenshots, but a lot of the stuff on my phone (contacts, email apps, etc) are personal, and i dont feel like censoring them. My opinion for you would be to just try it for yourself. You can always go back to 320 at any time if you dont like it.

Unfortunately, no it doesn't have a widget resize feature like ADW or something like that. I would LOVE to have that feature for this launcher, but unfortunately with my current knowledge of android it would take a while before i could figure out how to get that working, so don't count on it.

You need to be running a ROM that has it enabled
(e.g. Modaco Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1361108)

wow, this is perfect. One question: Do we face the same problem with the changed dpi as we faced with the SGS2 in the market with apps?

Use an app called "DPI Changer Utility" from market and change the dpi to 240, reboot and then apply the MOD
OP has the mentioned it in the first post to apply this only after changing the DPI

I don't know for sure but I would guess at no as 240 is a standard dpi for many devices, whereas if your changing from a device that started at 240 then it will 9 times out of 10 be something obscure that apps dont list as compatible with even though most the time it is..

Hey guys, I will answer all of your questions later today. For now i wanted to let you guys know that i created a thread to discuss modded lcd density for the Galaxy Nexus. The discussion in this thread should be related to this mod, and if you want to discuss any other dpi related things (gmail, market, etc) they can go in the dpi thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392089

Can i have another download link as my country has blocked megaupload, thanks.

Great job man. Does it also work on a density of 260 or 280? Or are things getting overlapped at a larger density.

I do not modify the size of the icons, i just allow for more on the screen. The 6x6 grid is pretty packed as is on a 240 dpi display that if you ran it on 260 or 280 my guess is the outer icons will be chopped off, or half showing (based on how it looks in 320).
240 dpi will definitely give you better compatibility across apps, but if that is too small for you i can see where you are coming from. If i made a 5x5 grid one it might work on 260/280.

[APP][MOD] TouchWizGTG Launcher (19/4/11 - Source/Modified files posted)

Click here for source / modified files
This is a modified, awesomer version of the Froyo TouchWiz launcher.
---The end has come (15/2)---
I have some bad news for you guys. I was waiting for a new Captivate Froyo release because the Captivate version of TouchWiz has more features and would be a better base to build upon. I thought the Captivate would get the update in December or January and I would have a new version of TouchWizGTG out by now, but Samsung USA and AT&T still haven't released the update. Worse news... I got tired of waiting for updates and a stable build of CyanogenMod, so I bought a Desire HD today. I'm sort of a sucker for HTC Sense. Sorry for the letdown. So long Galaxy S. Your gorgeous Super AMOLED screen will be missed. Your GPS will not.
Anyone and everyone has permission to pick up the project. I will try to put together all of my modified files and post them sometime in the next few days.
---Vote now! (21/12)---
So here's the deal. I'm considering creating a new version of TouchWizGTG (with JPX TW launcher or newer as a base) sometime in the next three weeks since I'll be on vacation. HOWEVER, I will NOT be creating a million different versions to please everyone this time. Sorry, but creating all of those different versions and testing each one for each release was extremely tedious and it made me lose interest in the project.
Go here and vote on your favorite feature set. I will create the TWO that have the most votes plus one of my choosing if it's different than the other two.
---Update (9/11)---
-Due to demand, I am posting variations of the new dock version with 16-bit mode disabled and landscape mode disabled. As a refresher, 16-bit disabled versions sacrifice speed for slightly better image quality.
---Update---
-Due to demand, I am posting versions that have the colored icon backdrops in the app drawer. Apparently some people like those ugly things.
---New in v1.1.1 (30/10)---
-Updated international language files (there is no need to update if you use English)
---New in v1.1 (30/10)---
-Smoother fly-out animation when leaving app drawer
-New version with redesigned 5-icon dock! (screenshots further down in post)
-No more 16-bit disabled version... everyone seemed to prefer the speed improvements of the enabled version
---Features---
-Landscape mode (270° rotation)
-Transparent app drawer background and no icon backdrops
-New fly-in effect for app drawer icons
-Ability to set the default home screen location
-Ability to sort the app drawer alphabetically
-Galaxy Tab specific code removed to reduce app size
-Enabled 16-bit mode for faster/smoother animations

Installation (If you're a noob, I recommend using Root Explorer. If you're not, you probably don't need this installation guide.)
1. In /system/app, rename the default TouchWiz30Launcher.apk and TouchWiz30Launcher.odex (if applicable) to TouchWiz30Launcher.apk.bak and TouchWiz30Launcher.odex.bak.
2. Copy this new TouchWiz30Launcher.apk into /system/app.
3. Set permissions of the new TouchWiz30Launcher.apk to rw-r--r--. You can probably get by without doing this. Haven't tried it.
4. Important! If you are installing the new dock version you must clear launcher data to unhide the apps that were in your dock previously. Go to Settings > Applications > Manage applications > Running > com.sec.android.app.twlauncher and then force stop, clear data, and press home. If you don't see com.sec.android.app.twlauncher, look for TwGTGLauncher.
Works nice for me tnx!
Only thing i noticed ... not all buttons in the dock were translated ...
good job there
Thanks. Worked on my phone I always wanted to have the landscape mode like the Epic, and the new app drawer is pretty cool.

Nice mod. Tried both enabled and disabled... as an end-user both appear same from the outside.
Works smoothly, and really wanted that transparent app-drawer! Thanks!
PS: No need for changing permissions.

I can't find my TouchWiz30.apk thing?
Where do I place those things?
This is a great mod
Just installed on Doc_Kalpik Froyo JP6/JPM V6 rom. Tried both versions, they both work great, but much prefer the "enabled" version. Swiping between panels is very smooth, transparency is great as is the landscape mode. Phone feels so much faster ( did not need to change permissions ).
This is great, works very smooth. But I can't manage to change the default home screen. How can I do that?
You propably have to edit your default.prop (can be any of the .props)
you can then specify the default screen with the line
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=2
whereas 2 would be homescreen number 3.

Shouldn't need to do any default.prop editing. Just grab the screen with the home icon and drag it to where you want your default screen to be.
hi great mod but you know i kinda like the icon backdrops any chance of an option to keep those in?

Applied this using ES File Explorer, mounted as root in app settings, JP6 stock. No permission set was neccesary.
Awesome work, looks and feels amazing!

changed dpi, have some questions

I changed the screen dpi to 200 but now miui launcher looks weird.
So I'm using adw launcher with 1 extra row and looks nice, however I like the way miui launcher functions, like when I install a app it immediately puts it on desktop, just like the iphone.
Is there any launcher that acts like this and also allows to change number of rows and columns?
this is miui default, folders and other widgets look even weirder

You change the LCD density string in build.prop to set it permanently, or use lcd density changer from the market to do a temp change.
You can use a tool called "Absolute System" to edit the build.prop easily.

changing the lcd density has the same same effect as changing the resolution on your pc monitor. the phone will fit more on the display, so smaller icons and text etc...
any of this apps are changing the phone dialer too ?.....???
None of the sammy aps like dialer change with DPI changes, everything looks smaller and a bit crap, you will either need to find a ROM with DPI changes built in for that or there might be a theme you can use maybe.
My theme is built for changed DPI (shameless plug)

Yes, TouchWiz doesn't play nice with DPI changes. Use Go Contacts (includes dialer) for dialer - I haven't found a MULTI-DPI camera replacement yet tho.

Changing LCD Density
Changing the density changes the whole phone - if you set density to a lower number everything will be smaller on the screen and then you can fit more items on the screen. A higher number will make things bigger and fit less.
An unfortunate side effect of changing DPI however is that quite a lot of apps don't like it and will force close when you try and open them. For example, I just set mine to 200dpi and Angry Birds FC's.
The Market is another app that seems to be fairly DPI sensitive, however in my case right now running CM7 nightly the Market is working fine at 200dpi.
Another effect can also be black bands around apps that are not written to scale to screen DPI but rather with hard coded sizes for LDPI/MDPI/HDPI.
Cheers!

like I said in my first post, I'm using ADW and it works fine with it, I was looking for a miui like launcher, with all the apps on desk and no app drawer, probably doesn't exist.
While I was on miui rom I didn't encounter problems with the apps I used, this goes from games to standard apps, like the market.
Now I'm on stock and I saw the dialer is small, but no problem otherwise, when I get called the slider works fine.
the advantage is it makes the screen seem like higher res, browser fits a lot more content, holding it next to a sensation it looks the same, one difference I encountered on sensation is a game megajump, doesn't fill out the screen while on sgs2 with dpi change it still does.
it probably looks so good because of the samoled + subpixel density stuff
It makes it look extremely hi-res. I can't, no, WON'T have my phone at stock DPI, ever.

I believe you can decompile your framework-res.apk and then navigate to res/values/dimens and change "navigation_bar_height" (set at 48) and "navigation_bar_width" (set at 42) to your liking.

yea thats the question. it was the first thing to put me off. i tried to find a solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531392
but still no launcher could do it, so i took apex and modified the smali code. it now thinks its running in normal resolution, disregards the fake DPI, i tricked the dockbar into ignoring tablet mode aswell. you can download the apk in that thread but mind you it has many kinks still. app drawer wastes alot of space, landscape mode does not work and you have to set a grid-size (5x4 for example), "auto" won't work. the crashing phone app problem is solved in that thread, too - but this was a known fix.
Delete me.

Also I noticed that when someone calls me I get my phone ringing but I cannot pick up the call. There is no slider to do that. Instead it says that some phone process closed. its just me i guess but i'd hate using a GB launcher on ICS. i trust the google team, and their design decisions really nailed it for me. in my stubborn view GB launchers just vomit all over it. that's why i wish one of the new launchers could go into some sort of hybrid mode, tablet and normal combined.

i guess you could edit build.prop and do it there. but you need to be able to switch off your navbar, too, or you'll get system.UI crashes - and that you can either do by hacking your framework or installing aokp, which can do all these things with a flick of a button.

hmmm, sort of want

[Quick TUT] How to change the DPI (LCD Density) to the way it should have been

Does it bother you that apps and menus look too big and sometimes not sharp as it should be ? Do you want to see more details and do less scrolling on web browsers, emails, file explorers and more ? Do you use a third party launcher ? If the answer to all of the above is YES, this is for you!
Please read everything carefully before you begin!
Requirements:
- LG Optimus G Pro
- Root
- Xposed Framework (excellent for other stuff too!).
- App Settings
- Build Prop Editor (you can edit the build.prop with root file explorer too).
- Some Root File Explorer - ES File Explorer (my favorite).

You have to have a third party launcher like Nova/Apex/Next/Go etc (as default) before you begin the processes!
1. Root your LGOGP (voids your warranty).
2. Make a backup of the build.prop TO YOUR PC. You can find it in /System/ directory.
3. Install Xposed Framework following the instructions in the link - Xposed Framework
4. Install App Settings from the link and enable it in Xposed Modules - App Settings (don't forget to reboot).
5. Install Build Prop Editor
5. Open Build Prop Editor (don't forget to grant it root privilege) and look for "ro.sf.lcd_density" the property value should be "480". Change it to "360" or "320" (I found it most appropriate, but you can change it to what ever suit you). Save and reboot.
Known Issues:
I did some testing and found 2 major issues.
1. The Home Launcher Force Closing. For now I haven't found a fix (If you don't use the original launcher you're golden). EDIT: I Found a fix. Open App Setting and look for "Home" (come.lge.launcher2), set in its options "xlarge res" (no need to change anything else) and save.
2. Camera view gets messed. This is where Xposed and App Setting come to play. All you have to do is to open App Settings, look for "Camera" (com.lge.camera) and set in its options the DPI to "480" and save.

Been using the AppSettings for awhile, and found 2 problems
1. Apps seems to delay a bit longer to load, dunno if it's because it redraws or it's just feels longer because you can see first the big interface then small.
2. There is a gap of a few pixels between the StatusBar and the HomeScreen/Apps that have it. FullScreen apps works like a charm.
Hi Kriggs,
With my instructions there isn't noticeable gap as in your screen shoot, I haven't notice any lag as well.

Yeah, I should've said I'm still using the stock launcher, haven't been able to change the "Android System" to 320dpi, it's him who FC the launcher, and probably who runs the top bar size.
I really like LG's stock launcher and the black line is a minus so I'm keeping it, for now. I'll change build.prop when CM10.1 is all working
I played around with this a few days ago and couldn't get anything to work well except a density of 400 (which also happens to be what the secondary density is set to in the build.prop). Everything seems to scale correctly with the stock applications except the camera. The camera has black on the side and bottom of the screen, but still works ok. On any other density, the launcher ended up being mostly unusable (seemed to convert to a 4x4 homescreen grid). I did not do anything with the xposed framework though, just direct edit of the build.prop file.
can anyone post up some screenshots for comparison .. whats the main benefit here ???
thanks
Is there a way to put apps in tablet mode, 240/213 dpis are unusable here...

That's the old way to do it, nowadays it's better to just edit everything with AppSettings, the build.prop is good just so you don't have to set every app to the desired density, but you can achieve all on the fly with xPosed.
@Kriggs : thanks ... really makes a huge difference
This is how it looks with my way 360 dpi (attachment).
I found a fix for the LG home launcher FC. OP updated.

Almost all good, 2 things got messed up though:
Wallpaper gets cropped, not live wallpaper though
Transparente top bar in pop-up menus
Also, keyboard letter appears small in 320, setting font scale to 150 gets all back to normal
afaik, playstore won't support for dpi value except 320 - 400 - 480
i use 400 dpi and all look fit for my eyes using nova launcher (won't fit with stock launcher)
Can you guys post some screenies of your home screen and what settings you used. I did this work around a few days ago and my launcher screens came out all screwie especially any custom icons or widgets changed in nova or holo launcher. For example a email icon would be oversized but only 1/4th of the icon would be displayed same for widgets

Also to OP you know all you need to do is use a file explorer that uses root to navigate to /system/build.prop open it in a text editor mode and change the dpi to whatever. Just really seems like the long way to download 3 apps when you can do it with 1 and learn a little about Android in the process

Yeah, this is way too complicated for a 30 second process really. Just edit the stock build prop and reboot, all done.

Yes but then your LG camera does not line up properly with the new dpi, if you don't care about the camera then yes editing the build prop is all is needed. I have set mine to 400 dpi and the xposed module works great.

Ported Launchers that works on N7 2013

I know some of you are against changing the stock/vanilla android look, but for those who have tried any launchers that have been ported from other devices like Samsung, LG, Sony...
Wich launcher (share links if possible) have worked on your device?
Share your screenshots with the launcher in use and necessary steps to look alike.
The only decent launcher that i've been able to find working is the LG G2 launcher
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2580458
It looks ok, but the icons are way too small and the weather widget size (4x2) is smaller than home grid size (5x5) so it does not center.

The TouchWiz launcher from the S4 also works. The launcher will be very small, but it can be enlarged using X posed Framework + App settings.

I also installed touchwiz from the s4 but it looks tiny and i dont know how to fix it, i have exposed module and the app settings but still dont know how to fix it. I hope you can help me
Suggestion, posting screenshots with the launcher in use and necessary steps to look alike.
I used XPeria launcher but kinda lagged on transitions. Also tried MIUI launcher but crashes on 4.4.2. Other than that it's smooth, fluid and looks good

Absolutely! Here's what I did. These steps are for those who don't know about Xposed Framework as well.
1. Make sure that Xposed is installed (the framework, not just the apk), download App settings module from the Downloads section within the app. Go back to the modules section, and activate the checkbox for App Settings.
2. Reboot. (It is recommended that you reboot for the framework to be installed for the changes to take effect. While this is true, I reboot after my modules are downloaded/activated. If not, they would require a second reboot as well.)
3. Navigate to "TouchWiz home" in App Settings. Switch it from Off to On, and change the DPI value to a resolution that you find suitable, and hit save. I use 460 for this launcher, and various values for different apps that I find is a waste of screen real estate (like 280 for the Play Store, and most of the Google Apps).

Not that I actually want it...but this is Android. I have it just because I can.
P.S.: Can't add any widgets to it. Not sure why the permissions are wrong, but I didn't care to figure it out. I don't use it.
Gonna give the lg launcher a whirl... Is it functionably?
