If you go to the manilla settings tab and disable 3G, does it still show 3G? I think it should default to GPRS if you do so (but I'm not 100% certain).

find Comm Manager then turn off 3G
using Manila 2.5 its found at
Settings / Wireless Controls / Comm manager turn off 3G
or
older WM6.1 Start/Settings/Personal/phone/band/
select your network type to GSM
to 2G or 3G thats the question
press the option to dial out
press MENU
choose OPTIONS
choose BAND tab
change top drop down box from AUTO to GSM
choose OK at top of screen
Phone will go from 3G if its in it to 2G and will stay stuck in 2G
You'll notice that your battery life will also last longer and if you were always swapping from 3G to 2G and back, you may have missed alot of calls too...
Happy 2G'ing - i am
many thanx for your replies guys...very useful..
to clarify...am using wm6.1 "proper rom"...nothing exciting i'm afraid.
so qeequeg...not sure what manilla settings are? but if you mean touch flow
then theres nothing to disable 3g (just sync data/sound/wallpaper/communications/customise tabs/about)
eye bees....nothing to turn off 3g in comm manager..(but again i'm using wm6.1)
but eye bees crystal_clear if i follow your instructions for wm6.1 and change band to gsm...phone tells me "if you chance bandset settings PDP context data call will be deactivated"....select it and indeed phone displays G in top bar ALL THE TIME
this works ok but with the software we that i'm logging onto via gprs its very slow.
ideally i want phone to display H all the time...
when i follow your instructions to change band to gsm theres another choice of WCDMA....would this be any better??
again thanx for input...feel nearly there but would like to tweak further for the illusive H

H = HSDPA its part of 3G and network dependant (sometime called 3.5G ?)
if 3G signal is not strong you will not always get the H
if 3G and H network not present then phone automatical selects G= GSM(GRPS) or E=EDGE
Phone/ Band settings
if you set to WCDMA would only connect to 3G/H network but if no 3G network coverage then no phone connection
Auto means Phone selects 3G or GSM which ever nework is received best
Hope that helps
eyebees...many thanx for your help and advice...appreciated
What is the H?
I'm new to droid and after always seeing E or G before rooting and installing liberated ROM, I now have an H. What is this? Does it use more Data?

Icons in top bar means:
G=GSM
E=Edge
3G=well, 3G
H=HSDPA or HSUPA(High speed download/upload for 3G)
It does not use more data, rather it does increase max data speed(both upload and download)
Thanks

Problem with 3g

Hello guys,
Well a friend of mine sell me this GSM one V, he tell me the phone has already been unlocked an rooted but when i put my sim card i noticed that the phone had no signal so i decide to proove with another rom (my sense RC 2.0) didn´t work, so I tested in the settings and I noticed that when forcing the network mode to 2g the phone gets signal and worked properly but when I try to use 3G or 2G/3G phone signal disappears and I can not navigate or call, so.. Do you have any idea of what could be happend? maybe the 3g radio got damaged?

[Q] 3g data auto-disconnecting after some idle time!!

Hello guys!!
I am from India and I have flashed the latest Mokee-ROM in my 1S ..I have noticed a strange issue,
I have a 3g sim(Aircel) in the first slot and a 2g(airtel) in the second one.. The thing is ,whenever I enable 3g data,it works fine for the first 20 min or so..
Then the data connection simply disconnects and refuses to reconnect..
The toggle switch works fine,but I don't get the H+ symbol, here will be only a H symbol remaining... Then after restarting the device, the H+ symbol returns and I can use 3g again till the same thing repeats..
I have noticed that this happens when the device is idle,i.e when I'm not using the internet connection.
Need you help very urgently guys.. I dont't have any ohter internet connection..
Thanks in advance..

[Q] 3G > 2G switching issue

Hi everyone, I searched for a solution for my problem for a very long time, but found nothing. HOX has many issues with gsm network or signal, but mine HOX has a very strange issue with network mode switching. For example, I'm on 3G now and I set the WCDMA prefered in *#*#4636#*#* menu. When 3G becomes unavailable, HOX tries to switch to 2G network. But instead of switching to 2G, I get "No Sim card" icon and after ~30 second network icon disappears. I have to reboot the phone to recover the network. I made some tests and found, that this is not the hardware fault. I tried to change the radio RIL to any available and there is no difference. For now I don't know what to do, what else can I do... I will really appreciate any suggestions.
I can record a video to get things more understandable.

Nexus 5x : can't access Internet in LTE band 7

Hello,
First, apologize my english - I'm french.
I have a Nexus 5x and a strange problem : I discovered the phone is offline when it is connected to a band 7 LTE antenna with low signal strench (2 bar and below on 4 - 4 is the max signal stregth). My carrier, Orange France, use 3 bands : 20 (800 mhz), 3 (1800 mhz) and 7 (2600 mhz) - see here for source : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTE_(réseaux_mobiles) (english version available).
I donwloaded this app to let me know the band used by my phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery&hl=fr
When I am offline, the 4x symbol on the phone show the network is connected, but if you try to access internet with browser or an app, each time you get a timeout or chrome says it is offline. If the wifi was turned on and I disconnect it, if the phone is connected to a band 7 LTE antenna, the phone stays offline and the signal stregth icon stays with a cross in bottom right corner. This can take several minutes to get the phone online back.
With the app, I discovered this happens only when I am in band 7 and the signal stregth is not good. And with LTE, if you are offline, you can't receive SMS also. If the signal stregth is good even in band 7, it seems to work properly.
I didn't have any problem with other bands, even if the signal is not very good. I tried to upgrade to android 8. Nothing changed. Tried with another sim card, got the same problem. Reseting network settings didn't help neither.
I think this issue is hardware related. I should try a reset factory ?
Any help would be really apreciated.
Many thanks by advance
