Nexus 5x : can't access Internet in LTE band 7 - Nexus 5X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
First, apologize my english - I'm french.
I have a Nexus 5x and a strange problem : I discovered the phone is offline when it is connected to a band 7 LTE antenna with low signal strench (2 bar and below on 4 - 4 is the max signal stregth). My carrier, Orange France, use 3 bands : 20 (800 mhz), 3 (1800 mhz) and 7 (2600 mhz) - see here for source : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTE_(réseaux_mobiles) (english version available).
I donwloaded this app to let me know the band used by my phone https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery&hl=fr
When I am offline, the 4x symbol on the phone show the network is connected, but if you try to access internet with browser or an app, each time you get a timeout or chrome says it is offline. If the wifi was turned on and I disconnect it, if the phone is connected to a band 7 LTE antenna, the phone stays offline and the signal stregth icon stays with a cross in bottom right corner. This can take several minutes to get the phone online back.
With the app, I discovered this happens only when I am in band 7 and the signal stregth is not good. And with LTE, if you are offline, you can't receive SMS also. If the signal stregth is good even in band 7, it seems to work properly.
I didn't have any problem with other bands, even if the signal is not very good. I tried to upgrade to android 8. Nothing changed. Tried with another sim card, got the same problem. Reseting network settings didn't help neither.
I think this issue is hardware related. I should try a reset factory ?
Any help would be really apreciated.
Many thanks by advance

HSDA <-> UMTS automated switching?

I've seen in my TyTN, WM6, radio 1.34 a (strange?) behaviour. I noticed with VODAFONE : I have a plain UMTS connection 3g icon and 3g data connection alive, used for push e-mail.
When I am in HSDPA area and data connection starts data transfer, I see a switch between 3G and H connection, then revert after 1-2 seconds ad the end of data transver back in UMTS mode.
Hypotesis:
1) Could be a simple WM6 LVSW edition bug
2) Could be a WM6 feature (HSDPA has well known problems in voice phone avaliability when active)
3) Could be a Vodafone Network feature, HSDPA onli when needed
4) 1.34 radio compatibility problem/feature?
5) ......
6) I am stupid and this is a well known fact
Question:
Any other wm6 user noticed same behaviour?
It has always worked like this, HSDPA is ON when you need it, not all the time.
thats part of the design, saving resources for the network.

This isn't working this way for all mobile phone providers in Italy, with TIM if you are in HSDPA area it will stay connected... and you're off-line if someone calls
May be we discovered why isn't enabled as DEFAULT setting and we need to enable using SetHSDPA.exe

Ditto in Australia. If im connected to GPRS, the icon is permanently showing HSDPA... unless of course i only have GSM coverage (very rare!!).
In Taipei, it works exactly as elivne says... H only when needed.
Cheers
FWIW, I didn't experience proper "throttling" in and out of HSDPA mode until I upgraded to WM6 and radio 1.38 (not sure which to thank for it). Prior to that whenever I was in H coverage, the radio would run almost exclusively in H mode. Talk about battery drain! Currently I can run for almost 2 days between charges (and that's with push mail).
How a particular combination performs for you must depend a lot on the carrier, your locale, etc. Took a lot of "trial and error" for me.
Yep, I'm on UK T-Mobile, and my icon only switches from "3G" to "H" when it's active.
As vp3G says, it noticably saves battery power from the old "permanent HSDPA" behaviour. Although I can't claim to get 2 days usage out of mine.
It is a network feature. If you are inactive on HSDPA for t sec the network will downswitch you to UMTS ( called R99 ). Only 10 users can use the HSDPA at the same time and there is an inactivity timer ( t=10 sec) try to manage the traffic by moving inactive users to R99 ( max speed 384 kbps)
Thank you for sharing your knowlege Austin Boy....
..."and that's the way it is"
Cheers

Really only 10 simultaneous users? Seems like the odds of getting a timeslice when you need it would be virtually nil.
The 10 limitation can be increased by any operator by adding Channel elements (Radios) or more when adding another carrier ( frequency). Europe has more spectrum than the US and it is possible to get two carriers ( 2x5MHz) and use one for speech and the other for data. In the US we are sharing the spectrum between GSM and UMTS. AT&T will be migrating GSM to UMTS gradually and using the 850 band for UMTS before moving to LTE (4G)

I have a similar switching scenario.
Prior to flashing my Radio to 1.38.00.10 and ROM to Black 2.0 I tested my download speed at www.dslreports/mspeed and was please to see I got almost a 1Mb/sec rating.
However since the flashes I have re-tested and am now only getting 250-300 kb/sec. It may be the network, so I will try on a few separate occasions and different locations.
NB. I have enabled HSDPA in HTweaksC
I noticed during the test that the download bar jumps staright up immediately but then slows down quite a lot?

3 ITA is working same way.
Enabling HSDPA only when there is data transfer active.
Okay tried again on my commute home, and also when I got to my house.
Speed is looking good ! getting up above the 1mb/sec rate again.
Must have just been a busy cell/network
ok... i have a spv m3100 with black 3.0.1 wich is suposed to be HSDPA enabled... i have also enabled it in the tweaker.... today for the first time i have seen the icon H... in my area there is no HSDPA coverege... none... but i read today that untill the end of the year they are trying to cover it... and i was thinking that they are already making tests... i tested my speed at http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ and i had a 145 kilobits per second speed... wich as far as i know it is similar to 3g... i disabled the HSDPA and tried a few times in 3g... the speed was 135 kb/s... to small the difference...
so... my question... what is the tweaker doing?... enableing HSDPA or just replacing the 3g icon with the H icon?
no one???

How to force HSDPA on Hermes?

Hello,
we have full 3.5G network here. but for some reason it connects only with G all the time... how i can force it connect with HSDPA High speed?
thanks!
dont sounds like it

Go to phone, then settings, check if you see a Band tab there, if you do, check it and see if on the Network type, "GSM" is selected, if it is change it to Auto.
Get external antenna. i bought 1 from ebay...it really detect the HSDPA signal constantly.
Standing by the BTS Tower ???
nope..but if you are only getting G signal, then you have to check with your isp.

[Q] Just a small question about signal quality display

Hello guys,
I´m a happy Desire owner since 2 weeks now and have a little question.
I noticed the following:
In areas with bad network coverage, signal shows (E)dge, or if it´s even mor bad it shows (G)PRS. That OK.
But in areas with good coverage it shows 3G (UMTS) all the time, and only if I transfer data, eg syncing email, it´s showing (H)SDPA, and switches back to 3G.
Is that normal?
I wonder as this is my first android device, and all my older WiMo phones where showing (H)SDPA all the time.
I´ve read else where, that often changing networks need a lot of battery power.
Oh, I´m using T-Mobile in germany with an unbraded Desire running 2.2.
I noticed this also with 2.1
Thank you!
Perhaps the question was´nt clear enough ... sorry.
I mean, I this the same at your phones, or do they show (H) all the time?
Thank you again!
Mine does this too.
If you want to lock to a single network type *#*#info#*#* in the dialer.
In the UK mine shows hsdpa most of the time, sometimes gprs when roaming. It does not show anything when on WiFi, just shows the bars. If you press from home screen the menu - settings - about phone - network, then you see the signal strength and type of signal .

Thats what I thought it should do ... so it seems my SIM is having a problem.
Yesterday I put a friend´s SIM in it (also using T-Mobile) and it shows H all the time and never 3G. If Network is bad it switches to E and then back to H.
Now I´ve ordered a new SIM, so lets see ...
OK my SIM is around 12 years now ... 1998 ...

Change band priority order - Or other suggestion to solve my issue

So, I have an LG G8, and when I am at home, I have very poor signal.. Usually. I have used LTE discovery, and my phone seems to prefer band 4.. Even though band 17 is a stronger, better signal.
Here is what happens:
I turn on and them off airplane mode. The phone connects to band 17, full bars. I can make a call, and it connects basically instantly and starts ringing. After 1-2 min, it decides it wants to go to band 4. On band 4 I have 1-2 bars. I often miss phone calls as my phone doesn't ring (callers go straight to voicemail), and when I go to make a call it can take up to 30+ seconds for it to connect.. I am guessing due to poor signal. It does occasionally go to band 2 (Still poor signal) and back to 17 (Great signal) but most often prefers 4. So I thought I would check out the service menu (##3282#) and under LTE --> Band priority it shows that band 4 is priority 6, and band 17 is priority 13. So I thought, lets try and change priority, but of course to edit it you need a service code.
So is anyone aware of the service code? Will this solve my issue? Is there another way to do this on a non-rooted device? Will this even solve my issue?
Thanks in advance guys.

Question A52S 4G, 4G+ & LTE icons

Hello all. I just purchased an A52S about one week ago and have service with T-Mobile. I'm located in Long Island, NY. The phone is obviously marketed as a 5G phone. I receive all T-Mo bands EXCEPT for 4 and 71. When I check which band my phone is connected to (at home) it spends its time evenly split among bands 2, 12, 41 and 66. Initially I thought my phone was only displaying the 4G icon no matter which band I was connected to. However I was mistaken in thinking a + icon was a DL/UL transfer arrow. So when connected to 41 my phone is showing the 4G+ icon. At no time have I seen an LTE or 5G icon. I ran a speedtest while 4G+ was showing and received 208Mbps/6.21Mbps. I'm pretty happy with the DL, however quite curious why I'm only generating a 6.21 UL. This leads to a few questions....
re: On my Home Screen
Ques 1) I guess I'm ok not seeing a LTE icon since 4G+ is basically the equivalent of LTE-Advanced, or 4.5G. Is everyone else seeing a 4G+ or LTE icon?
re: During a call
Ques 2) My option for VoWifi and VoLTE are both turned ON. However during a call my phone does not show an icon for either service. (I only see the 4G icon during a call.) If I'm not on a call and look at my lock screen it shows that I'm on T-Mobile WiFi Calling. However during the call I see no confirmation that the phone is utuilizing VoWiFi or VoLTE. Does this matter? Should I see something? (I obviously only look for the VoLTE icon when Wifi is turned off.) If I navigate to SETTINGS --> ABOUT PHONE --> STATUS INFORMATION --> SIM CARD STATUS the phone shows that Mobile Voice Network Type = LTE. This seems correct and should confirm that the phone is utilizing VoLTE if the feature is turned on, which it is. However once again this is the only place within the entire phone that I see the letters LTE.
re: Internet
Ques 3) My upload speeds (mobile data) are horrendous. I regularly receive 1-2Mbps as a speedtest UL result. Why is this?
Other than these questions the phone performs perfect. Calls, texts, MMS, internet, all run perfect. I'm curious as to why the phone is only displaying certain icons. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hey there.
Maybe the model you have doesn't support major bands in the US. As far as I know, the A52 5G (US Model) does support all bands, unlike the A52s you own right now (feels like an imported model)

UPDATE: I've discovered the issue is simply the icon istelf, not the service. I have confirmed I receive all bands except for 4 and 71. I'm usually in band 41, which in my case displays a 4G+ icon. For anyone else using any other phone you would see the 5G-UC icon. When I plug my phone into the car for Android Auto, my car screen displays the LTE icon which reflects the 4G signal. I haven't paid attention to what AA displays when connected and my phone is showing 4G+. My VoLTE feature is provisioned and the option is turned on. Once again I believe it's working fine because in the ABOUT screen in my SETTINGS it shows my phone is using LTE for voice. In addition I see the 4G icon active during a voice call. I also see a Wifi icon in my call screen if I'm using VoWifi. I was also able to run a speedt test in an area with a strong band 41 signal, and my phone's upload was fine. Hence, I believe my terrible UL speeds at home is due to bad reception. All in all the phone works great. I bought a 512GB microsd, and assigned every app to utilize it when possible. Such a great feature. It's a very under-the-radar phone. Works great and has amazing features. The ONLY little bother to me is the horizontal scrolling of the app drawer. I'm so used to vertical that I kept swiping the wrong way and it was driving me nuts. I installed NOVA and all is good now.

If it helps, if you install Good Lock and the Home Up module you can have the app drawer vertical scroll option.
Warning though - it's terrible. I wish I could stick with Nova but the gesture navigation jankiness drove me crazy (all good though if you use nav buttons).
