CM Stock Dialer + Smart Dialing - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I found this somewhere and finally pushed it. It is the standard ICS Dialer, but now with Smart Dialing FINALLY!
I used Root Explorer.
Rename /system/app/Contacts.apk to Contacts.apk.bak
Copy new Contacts.apk to /system/app
Set Permissions the same as the old Contacts.apk (rw-r--r--) [screenshot below]
Reboot
Requires Root (and RootzBoat 4.0.3 rom?)
Something tells me it was the custom CM9 dialer. So if this is an issue I can remove the links.

Thanks you good sir. I had been meaning to extract this from a cm based rom and try it out.
It works a treat, thank you.

Time to figure out what I did wrong ... renamed original file, pasted new file in folder and fixed permissions (all using Root Explorer) ... rebooted and had no dialer or contacts app at all ... hmm

Did you set permissions correctly? Should look like this
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

Yeah I followed those instructions exactly and same thing happened to me, is this only for 4.0.3?

Yes, my permissions looked the same as well

Bad luck for me to

I was using this on an RootzBoat AOSP 4.0.3 rom, maybe that's a reason. Have you guys tried just installing it? I also did it on a clean install.
Try:
Clearing cache from Settings>Applications
Fix Permissions
Installing it
etc
I can't see an AOSP rom being all that different from stock.
Off Topic: I think our phones can take screen shots out of the box? I think I've accidentally took a few but never figured out the correct combination of button presses. I'd like to take a few screen shots of the dialer in action. Hopefully I'm not completely out of my mind and the Nexus CAN take screenshots natively.

Thanks, updated first post. Great indirect way to finally figure out what I was really after!
This is an AWESOME feature. MUCH needed. Plus saves me from downloading an alternative. I hope Google implements this into all of their stock dialer builds.
If this does require a custom rom, then I'd say its work it. I'm using RootzBoat which is pretty much pure stock. Doesn't feel any different then when I was on stock 4.0.2.

Worked first time on AOKP. Very nice, thank you for sharing.

Does not work on ARHD 2.1.1, possible because it's 4.02. Moved and set permissions correctly. Oddly enough, if I try to straight up install it it says "there is a problem parsing this package."

also running arhd 2.1.1 and didn't work for me.

And others have confirmed it IS working on ARHD ... so that has to be something else we are missing - perhaps CDMA vs GSM?

Didn't work for me. CDMA with rooted stock 4.0.2.

Removing Sense unlock screen for stock Android Unlock

Is it possible to modify the unlock screen for our phones so that it doesn't use the Sense one? I'd really prefer having the stock Android unlock screen one over this.
If possible would our phones have to be rooted for this type of override?

No, actually, that's not what he wants at all. I'd also love to use the standard Android unlock screen on my Incredible. I'm rooted, I shouldn't have to buy an app to do this.

No.
That is not what anyone is asking for.
That is not what the OP requested.
Stop suggesting Lockbot. It doesn't even work.
lockbot does the stock unlock screen... care to post a picture of the screen you are wanting... seems i am confusing the nonsense lock with something else
Ok to clarify. We want to have to stock 2.1 lock screen (slide to unlock) instead of having the Sense Unlock (pull down unlock) WITHOUT any app.
The stock ROMS that are out have them... we want that just standard, not just on the ROM. Clear?!
Another cool thing about the stock 2.1 unlock is the ability to go into silent mode from the lock screen without unlocking the phone first and doing it through another means. It saves time and is convenient. I'd love the stock lock just for that reason.
This is what I got

just tried to pull the android.policy.jar from yeti rom, and put into an update.zip file and install via clockwork

Just tried to pull the android.policy.jar from PMF ROM and install via update.zip

I'm pretty curious about this as well if anyone can figure it out that'd be great. I've tried software (app) unlockers in the past and they are horrid.
This really can't be done with the stock ROM as it is. The entire ROM has to be deodexed and then the android.policy.jar can be replaced.
Just an FYI for anyone else who may be looking - I tried lockbot free per the rec in this thread, and it works great.

when it is locked can you bypass it by hitting the home button? that is the only issue I have with lockscreens from the market.
Well this has been tried on a different handset...trying to push a random .jar file will never work. Far more porting involved. Its built into the sense even though in the frameworks there's . Pngs for the stock lock screen.

Nope because the ROM you are putting the .jar file onto has to be entirely deodexed, including the /system/app folder.

Facelock ICS Partial Fix

Hey guys I kind of partially fixed the facelock app for the xoom for ICS
Whats working
Everything related to setting the facelock is working ie scanning your your face through the camera and the alternative unlock you choose ie Pattern or Pin
Whats not working
When you want to unlock the device, it has only the option of the alternative method you chose
How did I do it
Mixed the library files from the recent Transformer Prime ICS OTA update zip file
and the Nexus S Facelock mod...

I just can't get pass the set up phase. yes i rebooted before try. and even cleared cache .
I just tested this with the latest nightly from team Eos and it works.I can configure my face unlock. But just like you said, once you try to unlock it, the alternative (pin or pass) pops up instead of the face unlock method.

Google Now 10/29/2012 update
I was having trouble finding the stand-alone Google Search apk, so thought I'd post it here for anyone else.
I had a modded Google Now (Google Search, or QuickSearchBox.apk), and wasn't able to update from the play store.
Recommended Installation (if you fall into the category above)
• Back up your current version (Google Search) with TB
• Uninstall your current version
• Install this apk normally
*I used adb install, but should work just by running it.
• Enjoy all of the new features
Download
Google Search 2.1.12.516912
Note: This is an unmodded, Google apk. I'm just posting it (might mod at a later time).
Thanks to Rujelus22 for pulling this from his nexus 7 for me

Running on an LG P500 is a ARMv6 device. Runs fine as long as I do not touch its mic icon. When it tells me there is an update, I of course cannot get it because it is technically not compatible with this handset. I can only side-load it.
So could you post the latest and greatest apk (probably Dec 10)?
Also, what might it take to either:
Get rid of its mic icon since it crashes it. Using another widget with its own icon!
Or ... get it to connect to the older online voice which will work just fine.
Thanks!

That's why I think there are no emoji keyboard on 4.2 for GNex, but only the emoji dictionary. You can typ "star" in english (not "swype") and there will be a choice to pick a star.

I'm using MMuzzy's stock ROM compiled from AOSP for the toroplus, which may explain why it's there. I pulled 2 apks from system/app and one lib with a similar name from system/lib, so you can try pushing these there, and setting permissions.

No on the HDR, I believe that's a hardware issue (or a laziness one). I'm not sure why the ota would not have it and it be in an AOSP compiled ROM.

Another user chimed in with this:
"TBO's PixelLauncher works just fine with my Pixel on 7.1.1. The zips don't flash to the right location, though, so you may be better off extracting the APK and manually moving it to /system-root/system/priv-app/NexusLauncherPrebuilt with a root file manager. I renamed the existing apk first in case of problems. You will need to set permissions on the new apk.
I recommend having a second launcher installed in case things go south. I'm hearing mixed results with restores from TWRP.
You don't need the wallpaper app."
