% Battery, Blue Icons, No Carrier - LG Nitro HD

*Note: this is for the Nitro from AT&T and apparently is not compatible with other versions of the p930*
*I made this before any of these new roms came out and as such it was meant for and has been tested on only the stock Gingerbread rom that comes with the phone. I doubt it will be compatible with the new roms.*
SEE Blue Icons and removed carrier logo! for instructions. Installing this SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk works exactly the same way as in that thread!
*SAME DISCLAIMER*
I AM NOT A DEV! I just like tinkering with how things look because I'm extremely picky. I am not smart enough to figure out how to save someone's phone if it gets bricked, I'm just sharing what I've played with since I want this forum to grow =). So everything I say, you are welcome to try, but keep in mind that it can always hit the fan, especially right now, while we still don't have a recovery mode yet. And since I lack the omniscience of the all-seeing all-knowing devs, I cannot be held responsible for what happens to your phone, if something undesirable (*ahem*, bricking) should happen! That said, everything I've done here I've done multiple times and tested, and it seems to work just fine in my hands so long as instructions are followed precisely. But regardless, try at your own risk! Until we have a nice recovery mode set up, you have to be willing to live on the wild side to mess with this phone, which apparently, a lot of us are...
This is a modification of my previous thread "Blue Icons and removed carrier logo!" Thanks to [email protected], I incorporated the individual percent onto the battery icon I previously used in this set. I didn't end up actually using the framework he posted since I wanted to include my other modifications, but since he was brave enough to try UOT kitchen modifications on his phone and it worked, I decided it'd be safe to use UOT to modify my own framework-res.apk to add the proper xml's for 100% battery (I tried doing it manually... possible, but oh my god, oh so painful). I then changed all the pngs for each battery to ones that I made (individually =P) from splicing the blue version of the stock icon battery with the percent value.

So attached are the SystemUI.apk and the Framework-res.apk for installing the blue icons with no carrier and now, with % on the battery. It will look like this on your phone:
***If you've already installed the blue icons with no carrier from my other thread, then to add the % battery, you ONLY NEED TO INSTALL THE FRAMEWORK-RES.APK. The SystemUI.apk is identical to the one used for "blue icons - no carrier". If you're starting from a stock phone, then install both.***
Instructions are the same as my previous thread.
**If someone wants a framework-res.apk that changes NOTHING in the phone, adding ONLY % to the stock green battery icon, let me know. I don't mind doing the work, but only if someone actually wants it =)**
Thanks again to [email protected] for showing me that the UOT % works for this phone and letting me tinker with his apks! =)

Just to add, this works just fine with the blue icons with carrier SystemUI.apk as well.
Thanks again for your hard work on this!

Great! Glad it worked well for you! =) Thanks!

Call me greedy, but when clock set to 24H, on either side of it is so much wasted space.
Here is my attempt remove that extra space which allow more icons on the status bar:

Vano, can you kinda give a quick walkthrough as how to accomplish it? I dont wanna brick my phone from doing the wrong things.
also, to both u and itiskonrad, is it just me, or the phone kinda takes a bit longer to boot up ever since I replaced systemui.apk? I feel it takes a few seconds longer than wat it used to be. Not a problem at all, just wondering if it was just me.

Just use instructions from this post: Blue Icons and removed carrier logo!
And use my SystemUI.apk file instead.
My phone takes about 30 seconds after screen goes black and before animations shows up, then another 30 seconds goes through the animation. I do think it was booting much quicker the first time I started it, but since then I've installed bunch new apps.

I can't say I notice a difference. Mine was quick to boot when it was still pretty bare, but I didn't change the SystemUI.apk until after I'd put all my programs and everything onto it, which already slowed down startup. Maybe there is a difference and I just don't notice it...? Not sure

Cool beans Guys! Thank you.

Just did this to my phone the other day, its awesome! This is perfect for me since all i look for in a ROM is stock look with speed and a battery percentage mod.

Great! Glad you like! Let me know if there are other random mods you'd like. There's something addictive about fiddling with xmls =) I've also been removing the carrier from the lock screen, getting rid of buttons that bother me... I think I have too much free time

@itiskonrad:
Do you still copy modified .xml files after they were compiled into "original" .apk?
I could use my compiled version before I tried deoxed process, since then (even though nothing has been changed on the phone) it bricks my phone every times I recompile original SystemUI.apk, even if I don't change anything, just decompile and compile.
Can't figure out what's wrong...

Yeah, pretty much.
Long story short, I never use recompiled SystemUI.apk or framework-res.apk in the phone. I don't trust them to not brick my phone, and I don't want to have to go through the effort of unbricking it. I always decompile original apks, change the XMLs I want, recompile the apk JUST TO RE-ENCODE THE XML, not to use the actual whole apk, and drag and drop the modifications (any changed XMLs or swapped PNGs I want to keep) back into the original apk that was never decompiled to begin with, just to be safe =) This way, I've never had a bricking issue

I did this to my phone today with ZERO issues. Thanks! It's perfect! Exactly what I wanted when I bought this phone. I'm a total noob at this stuff, but if you know how to navigate a computer and have basic copy/pase/move skills, this isn't hard at all.
EXCELLENT write up OP!

I'm interested..!

After the change SystemUI.apk & Framework-res.apk, I noticed a small problem in ringtones setting - ringtones list has duplicate. I mean that is all the audio files in the phone (system/media/audio/) are also displayed in notification ringtones and phone ringtones (now notification ringtones and phone ringtones has the same audio files). Is there swapping the SystemUI.apk & Framework-res.apk could affect this?

Haha, okay, I'll get right on it. You know this will wipe the changes you did to your lock screen, right? You'll just have to re-swap the lock pattern png's and xml's and stuff again, to get the minimalist lock screen back, that's all. If you REALLY want, I can make one just for you with those changes included, I guess =P

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Is there not something in the marketplace?

There are apps that can add an additional battery icon with percentage, but replacing the stock one with percent is unfortunately not so easy. I'm almost done with it, I got distracted with stupid work =) I'll post it here later today- stock everything, even battery, just with an added percent value on the stock battery icon.

Anyway ive spent countless hours going through .xml's trying to find where it would be located. I thought i came close a couple of times but i would only get stuck in a bootloop. Its either located in an .xml somewhere or it can only be changed from the source(which would suck). There arent many of us who have taken on the task of theming the Hero so we may be alone in our efforts. There is also the "remove" and "select" that would have to be taken out possibly from seperate .xmls otherwise it would overlap the image.
Good thing is that if it is an .xml mod, then there is a simple solution. We just have to find the darn .xmls that control it.
If you wanted to try something temporary, you could replace the middle tab with the image you wanted and modify it with borders and shadows etc to give it a sort of flushed look. Like if it sits within the tab. I tried it with a few images and it came out nice. Worth a try. Anyway great work. Looking forward to your finished theme

Lol i know what you mean. Im the same way. I would help with the signing but my pc is down atm. I should have a new desktop in a few days so i can help then. My own projects are at a stand still because of my crashed pc. Sucks. If you put the slider back in it will re-appear with the curve. Easiest thing to do is make it transparent. Itll still be there but it wont be visible.

[MOD] [9-29-2011] Gingerbread notification bar tweaks + 4 in 1 reboot menu [Updated]

Update: To try to better support all the new roms and updates, I wrote a little bat script that automates the process of adding the accurate battery mod. Read more about it here: Universal Battery Mod
Hi all, I just put together a few tweaks to the notification bar to address a few UI issues. These are for various Gingerbread ROMs, they may or may not work on derivatives or newer versions of these ROMs, so if you're going to try, make sure you have a CWM backup handy. They might work, they might not. I'll do my best to keep them updated as new versions of each ROM are released.
The mods:
1- Added accurate discharging and charging battery icons to framework-res.apk. They count from 100 down to 0 in 1% increments, with blinks below 5%. On charging, the icon turns into a plug and counts back up to 100, again, in 1% increments. I've never cared for the various circle or needle battery icons, so I made these to look as if they could be stock.
2- I edited SystemUI.apk to remove that blasted location icon in the notification bar which, in my opinion, is a totally useless waste of space. When an app uses the actual GPS, the GPS icon still appears, this just gets rid of the location crosshairs icon.
3- Next up is a 4 in 1 restart menu for stock GingerSense. No point flashing this on other ROMs since they already have it, this is just for those who want to stick to the stock ROM but want some of these features. Since I referenced several different ROMs and posts in applying this, I'm not sure who originated the mod, so the credit goes to them, whoever they are.
If you're already using a theme which has modified these files (framework-res.apk, android.policy.jar and/or SystemUI.apk), this will end up reverting anything other than these two mods back to stock. If you really wanted to be careful, adb pull these three files from your existing rom for safe keeping (system/framework/framework-res.apk system/framework/android.policy.jar and system/app/SystemUI.apk). Just be careful and, again, have a backup ready in case it breaks something else. Shouldn't, but there's always a chance. You have been warned
Here's a screenshot of the changes:

If you're going to flash these on a different nightly, make sure you do a backup before. The framework can change from one nightly to the next (it did between 80 and 83). I'll work out a solution so I don't need to build a new framework every day...

Cool, yea, I recently played with UOT Kitchen and it was really slow. Plus, I couldn't stand any of the battery icons. I'm going to work on an expanded power menu (adding recovery and hboot options) next. I tend to prefer a mostly stock rom, with small usability tweaks like this.
nice work. I added the GPS thing awhile ago.

I'm too curious to wait, can you tell me if the battery color will change at certain charge levels?
Glad you guys are liking it. And yea, under 30% the fill turns orange, under 10% the fill turns red and the outline blinks red/gray and I believe under 5% the outline is constant red and the fill/number blinks on and off. Something like that. The Incredible has such good battery life, I've yet to be down that far since I got the mod working

I made it for the Fascinate 7 to 8 months ago, and at some point, someone asked me for a specific blink sequence, and I don't recall if I just made him a one off version or added his sequence to the XML in a script I wrote to automatically process the framework file.
But I just checked the XML against my icons, and it works as I stated earlier.

Any way you could modify the stock Sense icons in this way? I really like the percentage and flashing low battery but I'd prefer the Sense style so everything matches (nitpicking, I know, heh). If not I'll probably end up flashing this set at some point regardless, or at least see what I can make in the UOT kitchen.
Thanks!
Yea, I'll work on that. These were built from TouchWiz icons, I'll build new ones from Sense icons. I'll probably have to make them a little taller than stock Sense to fit the numbers though.
Thanks for bring this over Chris, I used your mod back on the fascinate too. Can't wait for the sense themed version you're working on and the power button twicks!

I installed this on the Virtuous Unity ROM found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196725
and, with limited testing, it appears to work beautifully there as well.
As an added bonus it also changed the icon over the cell signal from the EVoD back to the 3G, which I prefer.
Great work, and thanks a lot!

Wow! I'm really surprised that worked, considering Virtuous Unity is Sense 3. I would have thought there would be significant changes in the framework-res between Sense 2 and 3. Be on the lookout for other things that may have been effected, but thanks for being a guinea pig!
Anyway, I updated the OP with the Sense version. I left the previous one up in case anyone prefers the blue icons. I don't mind them personally, but then again, maybe I shouldn't contaminate my Incredible with ANYTHING from the Fascinate for fear it'll start lagging and missing calls!
thanks for the sense verson Chris, downloading now!

[All Carriers]Touch Wiz Themeing Questions

Since themeing Samsung's TouchWiz UI is not quite as simple as AOSP, and sometimes even device specific, I thought it would be nice to have thread for the themers here to help each other, post tips and things like that so we can all learn and get some killer themes going on this thing.
Also, (if this gets becomes a sticky) we can keep the themeing question threads to a minimum.
For those of you that don't know me, I've been themeing Android for about a year and a half now. I started on the Epic 4G then moved over to the Nexus S 4G. I'm always willing to help others at time permits.
Happy Themeing!

Themed the E4GT....and I'll be theming the shizzzz out of the SGS3.
I havent themed in a while so I had to dust off the good ole apktools last night. Ya I'm need a refresher course lol
Dont have my phone yet but I started to poke around just to get a feel for things.
Well, with all the US variants merged to together this could get sticky in here. Hopefully we don't have any issues with soft bricks, data mishaps or anything like that like we did in the Galaxy S days from using themes for different carriers.

Since Gingerbread those have been called out from the systemui. If you are running an odexed rom, there's your problem. Many of the png's are loaded in the odex file and cannot be changed just by editing the apk.

nope with the 7zip method (read up on it) you dont need that.. you just swap .png right in the .apk(s)
it is the stock rom\
and i succesfully did the same thing in the sgs ii systeui (and those icons are in there since i can see them).. however, maybe you are correct in that there are another copy in the .odex.. but it would be strange..

It's more than likely that it's loading files from the odex. Can try deleting that but you might lose status bar lol

thanks cannot delete the .odex (systemui or framework etc) on a stock rom.. the phone wont boot. (i think) although i have a cwm backup.
faithfully waiting for the first 1% battery mod for stock one.. (if it combines the .odex into the .apk) for stock then i can put my own icons in on top and then i can delete the .odex

Hey Shane, I need some help, this image will be the death of me
Ive stumbled on this image on the et4g and now I really cant find where the image is, and what the name may be. I always have a problem with the image name/location of the puldown notification background in the image below, its solid black and I need to make it transparent. Ive looked in drawable-xhdpi in systemUI, with no luck. THANKS MAN.
Oh +1 for this to be a sticky since this will help all carriers.

Wow, I had never looked at the files yet on this phone. I've been trying to work on some AOSP themes with my Nexus S. I got the framework-res and twframework-res to decompile, but can't get the systemui to decompile. If you can give me some help on getting the systemui to decompile, I'll look for it.
Edit: Nevermind, got it.
Edit 2: I have not tried this, but taking an "educated guess" I would look at this in the values/drawables.xml:
Code:

#ff000000

If you want to change that to an image can change that to:
Code:

@drawable/pulldown_bg

then make an image named pulldown_bg and put it in the drawable-xhdpi folder.
Or (This is what make's me think this is right)
Look at the drawable/status_bar_expanded.xml and find:
Code:
android:background="@drawable/notification_header_bg"
and change that to:
Code:
android:background="@drawable/pulldown_bg"
making the image as above.
If it's not this then the other possibility I found was "notification_tracking_bg" which the color is called for in the drawables.xml and is linked in the status_bar_tracking.xml
Let me know if either works.

I'm always willing to help others as time permits.
Happy Themeing!

I think there will be many great themes. Hopefully a few will be from me.
Hopefully we don't have any issues with soft bricks, data mishaps or anything like that like we did in the Galaxy S days from using themes for different carriers.
i have a version of systemui i modified for att
I have custom battery icons (not 1% as i used 7zip instead of a full rebuild)
i was able to change the battery icons,
loudness/slilent icon, airplane icon, wifi icons, alarm icon etc.
but for some reason the signal icon changes are not being applied.. i tried clearing cache, and dalvek cache.. still no go..
CAnnot figure out where it is getting the old icons from.. looked in framework-res as well but as far as i can tell they are not in there..
I have changed these sucessfully before in ics on my sgs ii..
