Case that will work with Dock and Car Dock - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Just bought my G-Nex and I'm looking for a case that will work with the extended battery and will either be very easy to take off or can fit in a desk dock and a car dock.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

I'm leaning toward the ghost armors. I just want the corners protected from drops really. Not sure how well ghost armors work when dropped on concrete from 3-4ft (like it fell out of your hand).

Thanks for the info. I'm not a fan of screen protectors for hardened glass, but I could use the other parts and skip the screen protector. I agree about the dropping it from 3-4 ft onto concrete. I don't know if you've noticed, but the G-Nex reallly is slippery, which is why I want a case. The darn thing just slips out of my huge hands all the time. Frankly I wish it was a little thicker. This always thinner nonsense drive me crazy. I'm having trouble holding on to mine it is so thin!
Thanks again for the ideas.

dont have this, but i'd assume the case mate tough case would since it has cutouts for the dock connector(the gold . . . ) on the side
i believe they have pulled it till January though as they have to fix the size of the usb hole(like with the pop case)

i seriously doubt that ANY case will work with the docks.
the docks are normally molded to fit the phone perfectly in the same that it is, adding even 1mm around the phone can make it not fit.
the case i bought has the holes, but honestly i don't think theres a chance in hell of it fitting in the car dock in the case.
the Nexus One had these custom docks, and it was the same thing, you couldn't have any case on the phone for it to fit in any of the docks.
now, things like the invisible shield work just fine (usually) because they don't add any significant bulk to the device.

I know Seido used to make some, but I wasn't satisfied with the support I got from them, so I won't be doing business with them again. I kind of figured that might be the case (no pun intended) but hoped someone else might make one.
Thanks.

[Q] Are there any cases that will fit in the samsung dock?

I have a SGP silke case and the samsung perforated one, but they wont fit the samsung dock. Are there ant ultra slim cases that will fit in the dock?
Not being able to just put the phone in the dock without taking of the case kind off spoils the whole purpose of using a dock...
I've been wondering the same thing. My Amazon order for the dock was recently cancelled due to no stock. As I've recently fitted a Case-Mate Tough Case I can't see me taking the two layers off each time I want to place the phone in the dock, so I don't think I'll be re-ordering. The dock looks so nice too.
Just got the official Samsung cover and nope, doesn't fit there either. Sucks badly
Unfortunately most mainstream docks don't support cases (from what I've seen, could be wrong). Last phone I had I actually ended up buying two docks and cutting a section out of it due to the case being heavy duty LOL. I tell ya it was a comfy fit for the phone. Quite hard to get out haha

I will be receiving another dock after a week or so. Maybe I have to try and modify it.
BUT I just noticed that I have the official Samsung pouch too and when having that back cover it just gets too big in the pocket and quite hard to get out from it.
Maybe I just go naked. Too bad because I like the feel of the back cover.
Why not just buy the Zenis dock? It fits my phone with casing on perfectly fine.

Because its ugly. The original dock is the only one that's good looking.
It should be really screen protector thickness to fit in that silly non-sync "original" dock. It's pretty for sure but definitely not enough space for any decent case...
Hi!
No, there is not any. Sorry.
I use dock with SGP case Ultra Silke and works OK!

Belt pouch

I have a diztonic case for my nexus. Is there a belt pouch compatible with the phone with the case on it?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
It will fit into the Maxpedition 5" Clip-On Phone / Radio Holster. It is a bit pricey and a bit rugged (so not so good with a smart suit or tux!) but it will hold your phone securely.
Junk the metal belt clip because it can pull out. Thread your belt through the 3 Molle straps horizontally or make a belt loop from a Maxpedition 3" Tactie (Google instructions on using Tacties) or a Malice clip. I use this holster for my Galaxy S2 with a Tactie and it's totally secure.
One point to consider is that the corners of the phone are exposed but I find that the phone cover protects those.

Happy to help. Bear in mind that the 5" holster is really 5" tall and a Nexus is 5.33", so you'll have a little bit of phone protruding. Personally I think that's perfectly fine and gives you something to get hold of to pull the phone out, but I should probably have made that clear. The retaining strap is plenty long enough to accommodate the extra length.
I bought 2 of these for my SGS2 (black and khaki) and I love them. They're totally secure so long as you junk that crappy metal belt clip.
Please post back your opinion once you've tried yours.
Just received mine last week. It's pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately I didn't have any 5" tac ties left to get it on my bag. Ordered those, should have them today sometime.
Overall I don't really have anything to complain about other than wishing I had a way for molle to be both secure and also easy to remove when I don't need it

Have you tried Malice clips? They're easier to thread and to undo providing you have a suitable tool handy. I personally don't like them because I find them big, clumsy and inflexible. They make horrid belt loops but they do hold stuff to a pack more tightly than a Tactie and won't ever come undone by accident.
If I don't mind something swinging about a bit I just fasten it with a carabiner. That's the ultimate quick-release Molle connector.

[GUIDE] Otterbox commuter is compatible with docks

I had an otterbox commuter since I bought my Atrix, but after getting a couple of docks I jettisoned it. Well last weekend I smashed it to pieces, so for it's replacement I was determined to get the docks and the case to play nice.
I was shocked at how easy it really was. First remove the dock insert, then on the silicone under-layer of the case, simply cut off the plug covers and the phone plugs right into the dock without any hassle.
But I wasn't done, in that configuration the whole phone is basically supported by the usb port. An accidental bump or nudge could render the phone nonchargeable- no good. So I set to work with an exacto knife trimming out the dock insert until it was just right to provide support to the back of the case, broke out a little sand paper to smooth out the roughest portions, and presto! Pics below.
Oh yeah, before anyone brings it up, I'll be seeing what I can do about the car dock next.
Any idea if the defender could work
Sent from my MB860 using XDA
I've never actually put hands on the defender, so I don't know how much chunkier it is than the commuter. It looks like the defender layers are reversed; the hard candy shell inside, and the rubber around that? Try putting the case in the dock without the insert, and without the rubber wrapper, and see if the usb plug reaches the phone. If so, it may be worth trying cutting the port plugs off. Otherwise, it depends how hands on you want to get with removing more from the dock than just the insert. But the standard docks are $15 on amazon, so if you hack it all up to pieces and it doesn't work, you've not lost too much in the name of science.
As it happens, I took my dremmel to my car dock last night and it was promising at first, but by the time I got enough material removed for the phone to sit in the dock with the case on, it was being held less snugly than it is in my standard dock, and I hadn't even worked out how to get the usb plug to line up right. [sour grapes] I hate the car dock launcher interface anyways, so I'm just going to buy a second standard dock and mount it to my dashboard.
Ummm....if that's an Otterbox Commuter on your phone in those pics...it don't look nothin' like the two I have or the one's on Otterbox's website.

Don't know whose website you're visiting, but the commuter case is as shown below. The first pic in op was just the gooey center so you could see where the cut was made. From the front you can't see much of the hard candy coating anyhow, but it was there....
In that first pic, it looks like there's a different plastic shell on the front side. I see it now though. Sorry 'bout that.

Official S3 Slip Pouch questions

I like to use my phones naked. I've already got the official flip cover that I use for work for extra protection.
At home I'm currently using a cheapy pouch but I've ordered the official pouch.
Anyone got one can comment? I've heard the fit is perfect but how easy is it to remove from as it has no pull tab?
Also it has cut outs for speaker, mic etc so.can the phone be used it inside the pouch

There is yes, I can link to where I bought mine from can't find it on the Samsung site though. It's not a bad price (£15), and official, the fit is tight apparently but frees up a bit once used for a week.
I bought the black one that was in stock, but theres other colors coming to.

I bought mine from:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/genuine-samsung-galaxy-s3-pouch-navy-blue-efc-1g6lbecstd-p35411.htm
It's very slim but also is a very tight fitting. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and it's still just a little too tight. An extra millimetre would have made a world of difference!
I hate the alternative pouches with the pull up tab, IMHO it makes them look cheap and bulks out your pocket.

How hard is it to remove out of the pouch, as there's no pull tab how is it removed, especially when the phone rings?
I would hope it would free up after use a bit, can you not put something similar size in to stretch a little?
It has a cut out for the speaker I notice so can you hear it ringing (and vibrating), inside the pouch and pocket?
Also there's no cut out for the LED, I was thinking out putting one in, would this be helpful do you think?

Just use finger and thumb in the centre of the phone.

I have tried an old larger phone in the pouch but it made little difference, it is getting easier the more I use it.

This thing is thighter than a virgin. You guys have been using it for more than a year now, did it got any looser?
I find it very dificult to extract the phone out. Also it is very thin, does it offer good protection to hits?
Can anyone recommend me an OEM or a very good alternative for a slip pouch with pull tab? Thanks.

Magnetic Car Mount

I was wondering if anyone had thoughts or has even tried these types of car mounts.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nexcon-Magn...lde-/221655676812?hash=item339bb5378c&vxp=mtr
Its magnetic so I was wondering if people thought our Nexus 5 would work with it without the metal plate they supply. Seeing as the Nexus 5 has magnets in it's back I would think the only question is if the magnets used are attracted to the ones in the Nexus 5 and the placement of the magnets. I may get one to try out but I wanted to see people's thoughts anyway.
Well as far as I am informed and seen, inside your nexus 5 are metal discs not magnets, the magnets comes in the original nexus 5 wireless charger. Hope this make it more clear, and I think they made it a bit vague so you would get it then they would simply tells you to get their magmatic cover !!!

I wasn't sure if inside the Nexus 5 are magnets or, as you say, metal disks. I know my old Palm Pre had magnets in the back of the phone for it's TouchStone charger. I actually have two of those. And the Nexus 5 actually connects with that really well. Almost like it was made for it. If these docks are similar to what the TouchStone charger is as far as magnet placement, it should work really well without that metal plate they give you. But the plate does come with it to use with a phone case just in case. So I may just put down the 10 bucks or so and see how it goes.
Cool let me know what turns out, I may kick one too off ebay
I have this one in my car http://www.amazon.com/InfiniApps-Smartphones-Cradle-less-Quick-snap-technology/dp/B00DPMNNUO/ref=sr_1_38?ie=UTF8&qid=1427845784&sr=8-38&keywords=magnetic+car+mount
It works very well, and the phone stays locked in place. It attaches to the 4 metal plates in the back cover of the Nexus 5 meant for the official Qi charger. You can't use a case though, or the magnets won't be strong enough to hold. If you do use a case (thin TPU or thin hard case only) then you will need the metal plate insert for it to work. But even still, the phone sticks way better without a case. It sticks best in vertical position, if you do landscape it needs to be centered perfectly or it will start to twist back to vertical over big bumps, it won't come off, but it will turn.
I use an nGroove Snap (http://www.amazon.com/Mountek-nGroove-Magnetic-Smartphones-Tablets/dp/B00HMDYH2U) and it works just fine even without the metal plate.

Good to know that these do in fact work without those metal plates. I thought they'd might but thanks for confirming it. I don't use a case so it should be perfect for me. I'll definitely be getting one now.
Made my own car charger. Too bad my Spigen case is too thick, so can't use it. Or I just have to risk breaking my phone by not using the case..... Dilemma...
I use kenu airframe + google Nexus qi charger = perfect solution.
I ended up buying this one and it works perfectly.

Nope. It works as is. And it works nicely too. If the next Nexus doesn't have magnets, I'm going to be sad.
I have another mount, I believe it's called "iMagnet" which is almost identical. After using it for the past year with my nexus 5, I have some gripes about it. It's not an incredibly solid grip, which means every bump is going to make your phone start rotating one way or the other. I like to place my phone in landscape mode but since it's in landscape mode, the phone will twist on the mount until it's touching the dash. I'll periodically move the phone back to the center of the mount while I'm driving which probably isn't safe. Ive used my phone with cases, without cases, with dbrand skins, without. The official Google "bumper" and my spigen neo hybrid are both too thick for the mount to have a good hold, so it really slides all over the place. Using a skin, doesn't affect it too much though. If I were to get another car mount I wouldn't get one of these. It's not horrible, but it just gets annoying.

I have one, and I love it. I've got one of the slim Spigen cases and I put one of the metal plates between the phone and the case. I had to play with the position to make sure I could still use NFC, Qi charging, and GPS worked fine.
Now I feel super confident in my purchase. Thanks guys!
