Can you tweak to show "non market" ebooks in kindle library - Kindle Fire Android Development

Hey guys, question here. I want all my ebooks to show up in the Kindle library that I did not download from Amazon. For some reason, a few (like 3 or 4) of them do - the rest do not. Is there a trick to getting them all to work? Is it have to do with DRM?
Also, is there an alternative free ebook reader AS QUICK that I can use to set my directory and show a nice cover art?
Thanks in advance.

I use a program called Calibre to convert the ebooks to mobi format then just push them over to my kindle fire. You can find the program here http://calibre-ebook.com/

Expanding on what gamy said- those books that don't show up in your library probably show up in your documents section. To change them from documents to ebooks they can be changed from "pdoc" to "ebok" when converting to mobi in calibre (just converting to mobi doesn't always work as it may still keep the pdoc tag). I found a how to article but not sure if links to other website are a no-no here.. Just google "ebok pdoc kindle fire" if you need better step by step directions..

Just blank the field that has pdoc in it. I think it is one the second tab.

Anywhere special you need to store the ebook once its done or can we place it anywhere on the sdcard?

If you use calibre you can just choose send to device.

Kindle app+.PRC(mobipocket)=Pure win!

I have been trying to find a decent way to read my collection of .PRC ebooks. I have buckets of these from over the years using mobipocket on both old windows mobile devices and my n95's.
Well I stumbled on a simple solution which really excited me - please forgive me if this has been posted before, I might have missed it and been struggling needlessly!
Install the amazon kindle app
Oh I love amazon.
Not only can you buy all new books through the app, which works very well. (I Bought an Ian M Banks book I didnt have for like a godiver or something) but you can copy your old PRC files into the kindle folder (it gets created after install..)
Launch the app, then they magically appear in your book list!
Whoop!
I am staggered! - I wonder how many I can put in there before it crashes.......?
Ahh nice find. I've been converting them to epub, slow but works with adiko. Amazon did buy Mobipocket out ages ago and heard they was going to kill it off. Guess they didn't, thank god.

YESSS!!! thank you for sharing! i was trying so hard to figure it out! it doesnt do the kindle azw format tho. but hey This is GREAT!
I have installed Kindle, but i don't find the kindle folder...
Folder:
It may be that you need to actually get a book first, I wouldnt have thought so though. I would recommend actually manually creating this folder on the root of your internal SD.
So plug it in via USB - select Mass storage mode - mount dem discs
Then manually create the folder on the first drive that apears, should be internal.

It works! Thanks
Hi, I've tried the trick, but it seems that it doesn't work for all prc files. I have some médical ebooks with a search feature in them, and kindle doesn't recognize them although they appear in the list after copying them into the right folder.
xcuse my question but how to name that folder on the internal sd
sdcard\kindle ???

Thats right, on the root of your internal SD, simply create a folder called "kindle"
Not your external SD card!

Add .mobi books to Kindle App

I'm not sure if anyone else knew this, but I haven't seen a thread like this outside of someone posting a really odd program a long while back. However, I recently found out the kindle app will read MOBI ebooks. To add them to your phone use your favorite filemanager and simple add the .mobi file to Applications\Data\48195fb4-ee0e-e011-9264-00237de2db9e\IsolatedStore\kindle
Just add whatever you like and when you power up the app it will read them. Just a fun find that I had not seen posted that I realized while messing with my phone after getting a kindle touch. Enjoy!
Dude i love you! Thanks for this info really helped me allot. Kindle App is the best app out there for reading e-books.Now that i can put my own mobi books on it is just perfect.
Thank you so much for posting this. This is so awesome. But what files manager did u used?

As far as I know there isn't a working one for the lumnia but I used TouchXplorer along with one of the windows apps in the development section to actually get the files onto my phone. As far as I know this only works if you are interop-unlocked as TouchXplorer requires interop.
An update:
Dump .mobi files at this path:
Android\data\com.amazon.kindle\files
and restart the kindle app..
Wow..cannot wait to try this on my phone.
Which file manager did you use anyway?

I like to read so I'll probably go to the MoDaCo rom. None of the ereader apps on the market are as good as the one preinstalled on the kindle.
I like to play games (the games that do work), browse the web and watch YouTube, and my new guilty pleasure, Stumbleupon.

How many hours a day do you normal use it?
I usually use it 5-6 hours. It gets more use than my smartphone or laptop.

I thought the same thing, but I found the one that sucked the least (FB Reader) and then it was a matter of just getting used to it.

I'll have to try it. I'm currently using Aldiko and Mantano ereader. I'll have to try out FBReader and see how good it is.
What's wrong with Adobe's reader? I mean, do these other readers offer something more? Adobe now even has comments and highliting. Would like to know if I am missing out on something.
Things I like to do:
Surf the web, read, write, watch videos and play games (the usual). The unusual: code in touchqode

Can you exapnd on what happens? Hold your power button for 15 seconds, turn it on, and explain to me in great detail what happens.
Edit: It seems you're stuck in a bootloop. Can your computer detect it via adb?

I'm holding power button for 15 sec., turn it on, appears Kindle Fire logo, the logo flashes and that's it.
yes the computer can detect via adb.

Sorry for the late reply. Here's what you have to do(and I'm not entirely sure it will work)
First, give me a complete list of every app you deleted. Also what version you were running(your os).
I will upload the apps for you. Download them. You will then have to use adb to push them back into /system.

I deleted amazon video, amazon mp3, imdb and native launcher. Use lastest version 10.2.1
mb your idea may safe my fire)) let's try.
Probably the worst thing in that mix is the native launcher.
Sorry to ask here but I can't post on development forums and there isn't a Q&A for the Fire 2.
I screwed up, I flashed AOKP JellyBean to my brother's Fire and it is so awesome that I bought a Fire 2 with the black friday deal and now I found out that it can't be flashed, the main problem is that I'm not from the US so I can't download anything from the Amazon store app because you need an US credit card.
So the question, is there anyway to install apks within the tablet? Like sending them with ADB and then installing them? does it have a file manager? or maybe downloading them straight from the Fire's browser?
I need to know this because if I open the box (it hasn't arrived yet) and I can't install anything, I would have to sell it cheaper because it's used.

I think there are ways to use the app store in different country's. If not, android supports side-loading apps.

Using a Kindle Fire outside the US
In order to download anything from the Amazon Appstore (even the free apps) you need to enable 1-Click settings on your Amazon account and set a US credit card and billing address. Provided you only want to download free apps you can use any valid US address and a test credit card number.
Expiration Date has to be a valid date in the future (use the mmyy format). Also make sure to use a US address (just Google for one, but make sure you don’t ship any purchases to this address)
American Express
371449635398431
American Express Corporate
378734493671000
Discover
6011111111111117
JCB
3530111333300000
MasterCard
5555555555554444
Visa
4111111111111111
If you want paid apps you can either get a real US credit card or load your Amazon account with a gift card. Any purchases should then use the gift card balance instead of trying to charge the non-working US credit card.
If you don’t want to use this workaround then GetJar is a good alternative to the Amazon Appstore and can be installed on the Fire without rooting.

WatchDisney Jr App

I saw the other day that the Kindle Fire has a Watch Disney Jr app. I thought it was only available on iOS devices, but apparently not. Would love to have this for my son. Anyone know if the apk can be pulled and installed on any Android device? Did a quick Google search, and didn't come up with anything useful.
Found the app easily enough, though it doesn't seem to wanna load anything useful...meaning I don't think it's just gonna work on any phone.
As far as I know it's a Kindle and Sprint device exclusive.
I will attach the apk anyways, in case anyone else should find it useful for any reason.

Thanks for searching. Apparently I need to brush up on my google search skills!!
Wish the app would just come to android
Thanks for posting an apk, but that isn't the 'official' disney app (I installed and tested).. looks like some 3rd party app which isn't functioning properly. The "Watch Disney Junior" app seems to only be available on kindle fire devices. Here's the link from the amazon app store: http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Junior-Kindle-Tablet-Edition/dp/B00BFX2DI8
If anyone has a rooted kindle and can post the apk, that would be appreciated. Amazon won't let me install it to my nexus 10 from their app store.
Glad there are others interested in getting this app to all Android devices. Would be much appreciated from my son, lol!
watch disney jr kindle edition
People don't realize there is a difference between the Kindle edition apps and other android apps with the same name. The Kindle app let's you stream Disney Channel live and watch individual shows.
google "kindle fire system dump"
download
extract using 7zip
go to /system/app
copy the "kindlewatchdc.apk, kindlewatchxd.apk, kindlewatchjr.apk" to your htc one
move them to /system/app on your htc one (must be rooted)
set permissions
reboot
*note that i have not tried this, just a suggestion
**also, the apks may be named different
Some please post the 3 disney Apk's Watch Disney, Watch Disney XD, Watch Disney Jr. PLEASE!!!

I backed up the Disney channel, Disney XD, and Nickelodeon apps from my daughter's Kindle Fire HD. I tried loading them on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" but they would not run properly. You could give it a try anyway. PM me and I can send you the links.

It's now available in the Play Store. Requires cable subscription. Enjoy!
