I like to read so I'll probably go to the MoDaCo rom. None of the ereader apps on the market are as good as the one preinstalled on the kindle.

I like to play games (the games that do work), browse the web and watch YouTube, and my new guilty pleasure, Stumbleupon.

How many hours a day do you normal use it?

I usually use it 5-6 hours. It gets more use than my smartphone or laptop.

I thought the same thing, but I found the one that sucked the least (FB Reader) and then it was a matter of just getting used to it.

I'll have to try it. I'm currently using Aldiko and Mantano ereader. I'll have to try out FBReader and see how good it is.

What's wrong with Adobe's reader? I mean, do these other readers offer something more? Adobe now even has comments and highliting. Would like to know if I am missing out on something.
Things I like to do:
Surf the web, read, write, watch videos and play games (the usual). The unusual: code in touchqode

Can you tweak to show "non market" ebooks in kindle library

Hey guys, question here. I want all my ebooks to show up in the Kindle library that I did not download from Amazon. For some reason, a few (like 3 or 4) of them do - the rest do not. Is there a trick to getting them all to work? Is it have to do with DRM?
Also, is there an alternative free ebook reader AS QUICK that I can use to set my directory and show a nice cover art?
Thanks in advance.
I use a program called Calibre to convert the ebooks to mobi format then just push them over to my kindle fire. You can find the program here http://calibre-ebook.com/
Expanding on what gamy said- those books that don't show up in your library probably show up in your documents section. To change them from documents to ebooks they can be changed from "pdoc" to "ebok" when converting to mobi in calibre (just converting to mobi doesn't always work as it may still keep the pdoc tag). I found a how to article but not sure if links to other website are a no-no here.. Just google "ebok pdoc kindle fire" if you need better step by step directions..
Just blank the field that has pdoc in it. I think it is one the second tab.

Anywhere special you need to store the ebook once its done or can we place it anywhere on the sdcard?
If you use calibre you can just choose send to device.

[Q] Bought a "rooted" kindle fire. seems like its missing part of the root?

Hey everyone, I have a couple questions about rooting a Kindle fire.
I bought one for my wife off of Craigslist for $100. Great shape. works great. Internet browser works great.
It has several applications installed on it related to GO? Like GO launcher EX and GO store, GO weather themes, etc. I thought I could use the GO store to download apps but everytime I would try to search and download I would get no search results not matter what I typed in the search bar.
The guy I bought it from said I could use Android market on it to download apps but I couldnt find the market anywhere on the tablet.
I assumed it needed installed so I downloaded Root Explorer and was following directions to install android market from a Youtube tutorial. Everything was working great until I needed to "move" an exported file to another file location.
The kindle was not giving me the option to move the file and the tutorial said if I didnt have that option I was not rooted.
So can I "reroot" it and then install android market?
Any advice you can give would be great, sorry if this was covered in another thread.
thanks again! :good:
wow thanks for all the info! really helps! Ill try that asap
And no I do not have a kindle fire. I just bought it for her because she wants to be able to read 50 Shades of Grey whenever she wants....lol

by "the first book" do you mean the bible? that's free on most outlets such as the kindle app which is available from the google play store. nobody here is going to direct you to a link to pirate things though... if you must find illegal copies of books I would try searching for digital copies of the book in question on google

[Q] App Suggestions

I don't feel like I utilize my tablet as much as I would like to utilize it and I think that it is because I don't know of some of the cool apps that are out there. I use the my Nexus 7 to watch Networking videos and to read networking books (currently studying for my CCNP exams). I use Mantano Reader for books because I read a lot of PDF books. Which is alright but since the resolution of the screen I have to read the books sideways, if there is anything better that would be suggested that would be awesome. Or if there is any suggested apps that you guys use that would be good too. Thanks,
I use Quick Office for reading PowerPoints and the Kindle app for pdfs (I've heard moon reader is better though).
I'm studying for my CCNA

I haven't really messed with Quick Office that much it was expensive for what I wanted to use it for. I thought about using Kindle for PDFs but don't you have to be online to access your PDFs.
Awesome about the CCNA I passed mine in August, I think I am going to take my CCNP Route exam next week. Good luck on your exam though. I thought it was pretty tough compared to some of my college exams.

Quick office is actually free now in the play store
If the PDFs are on the device then you don't need to be online. If they are on the cloud then yeah you would have to be connected.
And it's a good thing you took the CCNA in August. They've made some changes to the exams that took effect in October. IPv6 and some updates (and a little but more difficult lol). Hope you do well on the CCNP!

A few days ago I bought Moon Reader Pro for pdf-support, because it is imo by far the very best reader off all I tried with epub-type ebooks. The pdf-support in Moon Pro does however not have text-reflow (fit text to screen after zoom), which I find ridiculous. Would I have known that, the free version would have been good enough. (With Ad Away I already have no adds in Android). However for epub Moon is so good the developper deserves my money and no hard feelings here at all.
The only pdf-readers with both decent text-reflow and also good dark theme with night/reversed view I found are Ez Pdf Reader (paid) and Adobe Reader (free). I might have tried them all. All others did not have both or not as good. Ez PDF I like very much and has a lot of options. Adobe good to.
Why don't you like Cool Reader for epubs?
It has the best background (very eye-friendly) and tons of customization options.

I have never used Cool Reader I will have to check it out. I have only really used Mantano and EZpdf for reading books. But I am always up for more suggestions of things to test out. Thanks.
For PDFs actually Amazon Kindle is the best reader app!
Fast scrolling, fast page previews, flawless rendering.
Only drawback is that you always have to go to a file manager, click on the book you want to read and chose Kindle. The app doesn't store on it's start screen documents which were opened from outside the Kindle ecosystem. But otherwise, most comfortable reading experience!

I have to say that you are right on that I didn't know that you could open PDFs using the kindle app like that. The only thing that it doesn't look like it has is annotation but in all honesty I don't use that much. Thanks for a how-to on how to use the kindle app.

I'll second the surprise and the thanks - I also didn't notice Kindle as an option when selecting from a file browser. It actually works very well as a PDF reader.

If you save your PDFs (or whatever) in /sdcard/kindle then the kindle app will include them. Although admittedly that doesn't help if you've got all your books arranged in a different directory structure.
Why not use adobe reader? I like that I can't annotate and see those also in my laptop.
I have had problems with rendering with adobe. It will take a while for pages to load especially on bigger books.

Wow thanks for the suggestion I don't mind having them in the kindle folder it is nice for them to appear in the app.

WatchDisney Jr App

I saw the other day that the Kindle Fire has a Watch Disney Jr app. I thought it was only available on iOS devices, but apparently not. Would love to have this for my son. Anyone know if the apk can be pulled and installed on any Android device? Did a quick Google search, and didn't come up with anything useful.
Found the app easily enough, though it doesn't seem to wanna load anything useful...meaning I don't think it's just gonna work on any phone.
As far as I know it's a Kindle and Sprint device exclusive.
I will attach the apk anyways, in case anyone else should find it useful for any reason.

Thanks for searching. Apparently I need to brush up on my google search skills!!
Wish the app would just come to android
Thanks for posting an apk, but that isn't the 'official' disney app (I installed and tested).. looks like some 3rd party app which isn't functioning properly. The "Watch Disney Junior" app seems to only be available on kindle fire devices. Here's the link from the amazon app store: http://www.amazon.com/Disney-Junior-Kindle-Tablet-Edition/dp/B00BFX2DI8
If anyone has a rooted kindle and can post the apk, that would be appreciated. Amazon won't let me install it to my nexus 10 from their app store.
Glad there are others interested in getting this app to all Android devices. Would be much appreciated from my son, lol!
watch disney jr kindle edition
People don't realize there is a difference between the Kindle edition apps and other android apps with the same name. The Kindle app let's you stream Disney Channel live and watch individual shows.
google "kindle fire system dump"
download
extract using 7zip
go to /system/app
copy the "kindlewatchdc.apk, kindlewatchxd.apk, kindlewatchjr.apk" to your htc one
move them to /system/app on your htc one (must be rooted)
set permissions
reboot
*note that i have not tried this, just a suggestion
**also, the apks may be named different
Some please post the 3 disney Apk's Watch Disney, Watch Disney XD, Watch Disney Jr. PLEASE!!!

I backed up the Disney channel, Disney XD, and Nickelodeon apps from my daughter's Kindle Fire HD. I tried loading them on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" but they would not run properly. You could give it a try anyway. PM me and I can send you the links.

Who can get this working on android that would be great. Willing to donate:good: who can make it happen.
Anyone have updates?
It's now available in the Play Store. Requires cable subscription. Enjoy!

Any German Area Fire TV users who can provide ZDF Mediathek APK?

Hi guys -
I am switching back and forth between my old Nexus TV and Fire TV because ZDF or ARD apps aren't available in the Amazon US region.
The stuff that comes up when googling is fake, not for Amazon devices and requires Google Play services.
If anyone could make the APKs available I'd be most grateful.
Thanks!
Might be pointless. I could imagine there is a regio block...just my two cents..
Try a vpn that simulates Germany as your location.. It's worth a try..

Wow, You're the best rainman!
So ZDF (most important...) seems to work just fine.
ARD aborts with an error "You don't own this app", which kind of sucks, but oh well... I guess I'm going to watch more Heute than Tagesschau
Region-lock - The apps and programming is available in the Google App store and runs just fine on the Nexus Player (or in web browsers). It looks all good besides some Amazon nonsense enforcing ownership of the free ARD app. Does anyone know an easy hack-around? No big deal if not...
Cheers!
Perhaps you could simply buy this app via German-VPN-Server, e.g. Frankfurt ?

Yeah, already tried VPN. It depends on where the amazon account is registered and all hell broke lose when I switched to D.
Anyway, just found a solution.... Amazon seem to have released the Silk browser for Fire TV and I am now simply using the web site. Works great.
