[Q] (Q) Nitro HD on other networks? - LG Nitro HD

So I know it obviously works on AT&T network but will it work on Verizon, T-Mobile or sprint?
Tmo only gets edge for me. Wondering if its compatible on other networks. Any workarounds I'm missing?
Have a feeling I'm stuck to att if I want 3g 4g... =[

That's correct. Only T-Mobile uses the GSM network that AT&T uses, but they use them on different bands so the high-speed data is typically only going to work on one network or the other. Sprint uses EVDO and Verizon uses CDMA (if I remember correctly), so phones for each of those networks will ONLY work on that network.

I tested my unlocked Nitro on an H20 wireless sim (which just piggybacks ATT) and it worked fine. The icon was even SAYING. I had 4G. A lot of 3rd party wireless companies are still using att technically, but great as a cheaper data alternative that avoid contracts.
I plan on using this phone off contract with a carrier like that once my Verizon deal expires in February.
Hope that helps.

Does anybody notice that Verizon is now using a Sim card, just like AT&T and T-Mobile? That's because their LTE network runs on the Sim Card and not built into the phone, like CDMA...
So technically, yes, you may be able to insert a verizon LTE card into your phone, and it might work, but you most definitely won't get their LTE connection.
You know what, I should try this at work tomorrow. My coworker has a Rezound. we can switch Sims and see if it works on both phones.

Make sure you have the proper LTE APN settings for each carrier or you won't see LTE or squat!

LOL!! I forgot about that. thx Repherb.

They are both the same. EVDO is a protocol of 3G.
To explain a little further
Verizon network = CDMA
AT&T = GSM
3G for CDMA networks use EVDO
3G for GSM networks use EDGE

Exactly right. And to my understanding, EVDO has theoretical lower data speeds than GSM 3G.
So does this go for all CDMA phones...Sprint and Verizon? Do they use the same 3G bands so (theorectically) a Verizon 3G phone should work on Sprint 3G?

Yeah, but you have to know someone that works at sprint.
if you know someone at sprint get them to activate your phone's serial number on the sprint network. Something sprint frowns upon, and most local stores wont do it for you. But yeah its possible, just not worth the effort.
It would be easier to get on metro pc's network then sprints
Most cdma phones support both 3G bands but some only support one band.

I'm thinking about trying it with my Incredible 2. I just wanted to make sure it (Incredible 2) supports EvDo...because I know thats is what Sprint uses for 3g.
Sounds like it would work *if* I could get the esn registered.
Thanks for the help!
Yeah, when I used to work for [well-known retailer redacted], it was really easy for us to do with the automated system--but that was back in olden days, when a tri-mode phone (on VZW) was a Feature. When I later worked for [different well-known retailer redacted], it was still possible for us to do it if we could get in touch with cooperative sprint reps, but it wasn't nearly as trivial.
More recently, talking to one of my acquaintances who currently works in mobile retail (ha!), I got the impression that it was sort of like the iPhone on T-mo was--they've been hurting for so long that they're willing to look the other way, even if it's officially frowned upon.

[Q] Using the internet while talking on the phone?

I would like to know if it's possible to use the internet on Sprint's network (via mobile data) while talking on the phone. Or if I can receive MMS messages?
I wouldnt see why not. Have you tried it?

CDMA networks require support for SVDO (simultaneous voice/data something or other) in the phone and the network.
No idea if Sprint and/or the OG support this.
If you have access to LTE on Sprint, then you should be able to. But if it drops back to CDMA, I don't think it will work.
Try it out and let us know if it works.
It works perfectly on GSM/LTE networks, in case you need a reason to switch. Lol

Only in LTE area's. Sprint does not support SVDO yet, so the only way to do it is using LTE for data and 1x for voice. However if you drop out of LTE coverage you'll loose mobile data.

That's because Telus has a GSM network, and GSM supports simultaneous voice/data.
Sprint is a CDMA network, and they do not support SVDO (required for simultaneous voice/data on CDMA). You can make it work when on LTE as you are connecting to two separate networks using two separate radios (CDMA/LTE).

[Q] Flashing to Metro PCS?

Doesn't Metro PCS use the same LTE bands that the Verizon HTC One supports? I'd like to use the One with Metro PCS but I'd like to make sure that it would work properly - especially a good data connection and from my research the Sprint HTC One wouldn't have 4G on Metro. Also I know Metro PCS will flash the phone for me to use on their network but do they gimp the web use on it so that the data usage is a bit limited? Am I wrong or should I go ahead and buy the phone outright and have it flashed over?
Nope, not possible. Verizon mainly uses 700 MHz (band 13) for LTE while MetroPCS uses AWS (band 4). Even though Verizon is testing AWS LTE in a few markets, I'm not sure if the Verizon One even supports that band.
If you want a One, why not get the T-Mobile version instead? They acquired Metro a few months back and are going to merge the two LTE networks while shutting down CDMA. Look at their coverage map now and you'll see it's an exact duplicate of T-Mobile's.
Hello, I have a Verizon phone, which I unlocked and I am using with MetroPCS sim card. Everything works except I don't have 4G. I have internet but not 4G. Some ideas how I can fix that and actually use the 4G? Thanks!

Read the post above yours. It has the answer. You cannot enable a band that the phone doesn't have in it's radio. Verizon band 13 is different than band 4.

The CDMA editor only let me go so far but i know you can get 3g and evdo to work on their network with some elbow grease and free time.

All LTE devices (even Sprint's and Verizon's) take SIM cards. Also, that same cellular radio that handles the LTE almost always does GSM/HSPA as well, all integrated on the same radio. Furthermore, Verizon is in the habit of leaving their LTE devices SIM-unlocked, so they can be used on GSM carriers. As long as the phone supports the appropriate bands, it will work on T-Mobile. However, I don't believe the VZW Note 3 supports the AWS bands that T-Mobile uses for most of their HSPA+ coverage. I doubt the developer edition would be any different.

Sprint chose to have the SIM cards embedded into the device so that they couldn't be removed. They're not as open with the GSM part of their LTE phones as Verizon has been. If you read the label on the side of the box, it would have listed an ICCID number, which is the SIM card number for that device. The Sprint version of the Galaxy S4 had the SIM card tray accessible, unlike their previous LTE phones. Not sure if they continued that with the Note 3 or went back to embedding them.

That's precisely why it's important to take note of the bands that the phone supports and the bands that the carrier requires for their various services (UMTS/HSPA, LTE, GSM/EDGE). I briefly popped my T-Mobile SIM into my VZW Note 2 and could only get Edge because the VZW Note 2 doesn't support the AWS frequencies that T-Mobile uses for HSPA in my area.

[Q] Moving S4 from Verizon to iwireless/t-mobile

Hi,
I am thinking about moving my Galaxy S4 and moto RAZR from Verizon wireless to iwireless (a t-mobile affiliate). I understand that I need to unlock my phone but I am unable to find out if I move it to iwireless if I will still have 4G data. The iwireless sales rep said that I will still have voice and 2.5G service but couldn't tell me if I would still have 4G.
I was looking at this table I found on a site explaining how to unlock the phone but I don't know enough about the subject to make an informed decision.
Samsung Galaxy S4
Can someone confirm whether or not my Verizon S4 or RAZR can be unlocked to work with the iwireless/t-mobile 4G network?

It seems as though your grasp of the subject is strong enough to know that it might work as you'd like - and it might not. You need to call back and ask to speak to a CSR that actually knows what bands their service works on so they can give you accurate information. That's kind of their job...
Also -
Verizon LTE operates on Band 13 while T-Mob operates on Band 17, both of which carry completely different spectrums; this means no LTE on either of your unlocked phones. There's a slim possibility that you will get intermittent 3G but the most likely scenario is that you will get talk, text and 2G / 2.5G only.
Band 17? My Verizon branded S4 is getting T-Mobile LTE. I'm fairly sure its on band 4.
T-mobile is band 4 which is 1700/2100 mhz. The Verizon s4 is not capable of 1700mhz. But if you are getting 4G it may be because your area is using 2100 mhz. I am specifically moving to iwireless and I was told they use the 1700 mhz band.

Yes, I think all Verizon LTE capable phones are unlocked.
The I545 (Verizon S4) can receive LTE on band 4. T-Mobile serves LTE on band 4. The coincidence works well.

My RAZR MAXX HD definitely wasn't SIM unlocked... For the life of me I couldn't get it to work when I moved to ATT from Verizon... Not even GSM would work.
I just need to get some clarification from you guys. Are your VZW phones bought in the US and being in the US on t-mobile's or iwireless's 4g network. Because after I made the first post I went to the phone unlocking place in my local mall and talked to there techs, they said that the VZW S4 will not get 4g. I have also been doing extensive searches online and keep finding half saying it will work and half saying it won't. I have a feeling that the ones that work are working outside of the US as I found posts saying as such.
I read some where that the razr you had to flash the radio FW to get GSM to work properly.

I got my vzw S4 off craigslist but 99% sure it was purchased in the USA. I'm on T-Mobile's $50/mo plan.
Verizon's LTE phones are sim unlocked due to an agreement with the FCC when vzw purchased some bandwidth.
I think there was an update around 03/2014 that enabled band 4 on the I545. Then had to make some apn changes and tell the modem to use gsm/lte on band 4.
The one quirk I have is it will say "no service" after a reboot and until I make or receive a voice call. Then I get the "T-Mobile" instead of "no service" and things work as they should.

I was just at iwireless today and tested my phone with their network and was unable to get it to work. iwireless is a t-mobile affiliate but they do not use 4G LTE in my area. Their system runs on a 3.8G 1700MHz which the VZW S4 does not have. I am told that they will be starting to switch all the 2G radios in the area to 4G LTE later this year, which should work with my VZW S4. So I am just going to have to wait till the end of the year and go back and test it again.

That phone was before VZW bought the band 4 spectrum and cut the deal with the FCC. All VZW LTE phones are SIM unlocked. Any AWS capable VZW phone is SIM unlocked and can use LTE on band 4. The S4 got it with an update last year.
I am probably going to do the $30 plan soon and plan to use my VZW S4. I am not going to port my number right away in case the service in my area sucks (doubtful, live in DFW in dense surburbia).
I went out off town this weekend and went to a t-mobile store and was able to get 4g service after adding the correct APN. But it is too bad that iwireless that is in my area does not use that band yet, they are staring to upgrade to that band later this year. Until then my s4 will only get edge service.

Any caveats? Would I have to LokiDoki after the flash? Would I need to flash a T Mobile specific radio too (currently on i545vrufnk1)? Or is that all just overcomplicating things? Would i be able to just adjust the APNs on my current ROM after inserting a T Mobile SIM?
