Why do you think its harsh? This skin is 100% made by CoreDroid and it has been ripped and distributed 100's of times so no I dont find it harsh, we own it and we deserve the right to say no you cannot rip it even though it still happens daily.
We also do indeed give credit when needed. Please just wait and try the ROM before you start making assumptions. Should be released today if all goes well.

GPL compliance is important. It is a simple yes/no question: Have you modified the kernel or any other aspect of the ROM that is covered by the GPL?
If the answer is yes, then by not providing the source / linking to the original source if unchanged you are in breach of the GPL, and in much the same way as you complain about people ripping your skin, you have taken GPL work and used it, without respect for the rules. If this is the case, again, much the same as your skin, the mods will remove your ROM thread.
Edit: Just to clarify, I have no vested interest in the success or otherwise of this ROM, and I'm not a dev. All the same, I find it irksome for the OP to make such a big deal about their skin being ripped (which is, I guess, a collection of found icons put together anyway), post zero information about the sources of the rest of the ROM.

Simply because we are releasing ROMs for 6 devices today. Between cooking, uploading, updating our site and having a day job and family/kids, this just makes it a bit more manageable.

After the great success of the "Best ROM" thread last week, I thought it would be interesting to add a "Best Kernel" thread too. Obviously, this is completely subjective, but the poll will at least tell us which kernels are most popular.
If you have any comments, please add them below. It would be particularly interesting to get feedback or comparisons on stability, battery life and performance for the kernels included in the poll.

There used to be a ROM named Backed Snack by Hero_over. Eventually he got banned(?) on XDA, same situation as Kingslick I think.
There was a kernel known as Baked Snacks Kernel #6, which was never explicitly released as a stand alone kernel, but rather it was bundled with his roms. It still is one of the best kernels available. This fact made BS #6 not nearly as well known as some of the other kernels on the forum. No disrespect to Netarchy/toast/ziggy, but Hero_over > them.

Sounds interesting... Can you post a link to a flashable zip for this kernel? Is it known to work with other Sense ROM's?
Why do these people keep getting banned? Honestly, it's ridiculous. Two of the best kernel developers are now gone, and how does that help the community? I know they were allegedly wanting to "charge" for certain things, but that's supply and demand. No-one is being forced to pay, and I don't think "big brother" should be banning people to preserve their "faux-utopia" where basic market economics don't exist. Let people decide for themselves if they want to support Hero_over and KingKlick...

Just banned for creating membership programs of some sorts for early releases and dedicated support. Mym is 'practically' doing the same thing right now.

hero is back and not to rehash that discussion he was early release on snack shack and then post on xda for free on his published schedule. Myn is doing the same thing and you can get all of his full release stuff free as well. if your talking about the other "dev" she just linked to her site and forced monthy subscription to some things and never released to public or dates when they would be. Kernels weren't impressive, but the good news is Hero is back and is still a beast!

i don't have a single favorite so far, but netarchy's kernels give me great results.
i'm in the process of trying all of his out, so i won't vote for now.
you're also missing net's 4.2.1 BFS More Aggressive from the list.
Kings bfs11, I've been using since release, and before that was cfs 11. I will stick with king as long as he makes kernels for the phone I have, or I die, whichever comes first.

I've been using netarchy's kernels from the moment he released one without the FPS limit cap and haven't needed to try anything else. His work great for me.

Sure it is edited a little and there is a "setup" where Gen.y must be edited in regedit.... but those people who decided to "install" Xdandroid on their device can handle a change in the regedit easly... if not... they should leave their fingers off from android on TP2.

Yeah did you see what my posts are? It isn't just a bunch of useless posts. If you want to see the true history of this app check out the original thread listed below. This app was originally developed for the HD2 which required an exe to be executed before haret. Which Gen Y doesn't do. Thats why it was developed then. It then evolved into what it is today. And if you want to see the old version go to jmzsoft.com and look for v4. It needed better layout and it got better layout. I just added some code to include most WVGA devices instead of just the HD2.

But would not not disagree - you took something free (Gen.Y), modified it, and are now charging people to use your modified version?
True or not...? I'm not sure if Gen.Y is released under any sort of a license, but if it is I'm pretty sure you're in violation of it.

Absolutely not. I didn't even know he released source until i checked after reading your post. He wrote his in basic4ppc and mine is vb.net. Completely and solely my code and app from ground up.

Yes but they are very common images for windows/android. Charging for XDAndroid would be against the GPL.

Since the day I have been using Smartphones ( PPC6700), I have been using different custom ROMs. No one has built it from scratch, they were all provided by the CellPhone Makers and Cell Service providers combined. Then the developers took that and then edited it to make it faster, better etc.
Now strongsteve takes the base and then ODEXES the DEODEXED parts and then provides awesome ROM. Developers who provide De-Odexed ROM, do not provide the ODEXED version of the same ROM, that makes me think that what ever Steve does was not there and he did something that made it into flash able ROM, then why is it not considered Development. He is such a great asset and is forced to Post his Fully Functional Odexed ROM in general section. I think its not fair.
I know people will flame me for this, and that is fine, it will not change my bank balance so I do not care, but I just wanted to voice my opinion and also learn about the definition of development.
Again this is not an attack on other developers, without you guys Android would be nothing but 2nd best option after IOS, right now in my opinion it wold be an insult to Android to speak about it in the same breath as iOS, and all this is due to only you guys ( Developers). I keep flashing all your ( De-odexed and Odexed) ROMs as I like novelty and also can help in testing.
You know, I've never understood why people get so bent out of shape about the development section here. I'm a member of many different forums that cover all kinds of different topics, including other Android forums. Threads get posted in the wrong section on EVERY forum just about every day. This is the ONLY site where people get all bent out of shape because of it, and members are threatened with an "infraction" simply for posting something in the wrong place. Every other site, a moderator simply moves the thread to the proper location and provides a polite explanation.
They came up with the whole 10 post thing before you are allowed to post in the development section, but just because someone has 10 posts doesn't mean they are developing something. Now we have people spamming the other forums just to get their 10 posts in.
Why not just make it so only developers are able to post new threads in the development section?

I flash different ROMS several times a week and have tried them all, but I can't relay my experiences with each different ROM because I don't have the ten posts. This looks like a good time to make my first of ten useless spam posts in the general forum to be able to post in the dev section.
I appreciate all the great ROMS, Kernels, Themes, Mods and everything else created by all the talented coders in this community. IMO, a great piece of work is a great piece of work, It doesn't make a hill of beans difference to me which section its posted in.
The reason most people use deodexed is because it's flexible. If you use any odexed ROM, you're stuck with it's theme. But that eliminates the problem in StrongSteve's case because he's got the ICS stock odexed verison.

Hi my post was not about odexed or deodexed that debate will go on for ever...I use all the roms that are posted...
I generally post for asking questions when I need help..This is the first time I have posted to complain that its was not fair to consider what Steve does as non-development...If you take parts of the apps and edit then and then put them all together and make it Bootable Installable ROM then it means development and Steve does much much beyond just that...He was being nice by not complaining about it and he did post his work in General section and I felt it bad so I spoke out nothing much.

Again this is not an attack on other developers, without you guys Android would be nothing but 2nd best option after IOS, right now in my opinion it wold be an insult to Android to speak about it in the same breath as iOS, and all this is due to only you guys ( Developers). This has already been talked about, discussed, hashed over and the dead horse has been beaten - it's a dead discussion about Strongsteve - he hasn't left XDA and even stated that he never called himself a developer and didn't care where his stuff was - so I think you've missed something.
If you want to discuss something like this - I suggest you redirect your initial comments and not bring up dead issues - you'll only inflame what was already overblown and old news now.

Metamorph said something about the files were wrong or something.
I appreciate dangerdan specifying his issue with installing this mod, but I have no idea what exactly the bases are of the other negative comments about this mod.

It might have something to do with the OP spamming the board every day with links to his pay site, and creating a new thread every day. Just doesn't sit well with a lot of folks.
Seems kind of immature. If the OP is violating site rules, report him to the mods. If he's not, either shut up and color or lobby for a change to the rules so as to bring him into the wrong. I appreciate greatly that a lot of mods, etc., are offered here for free, but I don't think every mod has to be free, and, in fact, the OP is offering a free mod in addition to linking to his pay site.

Thank you. I am not trying to make a huge profit with my paid mods. Just enough to be able to keep on creating them. I am not sure what any complaints are about. I do not feel like I am breaking any rules at all.
I am posting a quality mod for multiple roms completely free of charge. Yes, I have a link to my site, but it is in my signature and at no time am I charging for anything in the forum nor promoting any specific paid mod. I really don't see how this doesn't sit well with some people.
As for different posts, I am releasing different mods which may make my post become very clustered. Not sure how seeing a free mod almost every day is annoying. I apologize for any offense to anyone. I really am just trying to provide quality mods and help people make their phones look as nice as possible.
"Real" men don't use metamorph, Or pay for horribly stretched out fuzzy graphics. But the daily "free spam threads" are annoying #justsayin.

Some constructive criticism- Not my intent to hate on you for free mods. Maybe instead of a new thread every day, create one thread for your mods and update it whenever you want. Those who like your mods will know to star the thread and come back to it whenever they wish. As for the fuzzy graphics, you might consider using vector images as opposed to raster so they don't pixelate. Not condescending at all, just hopefully helpful criticism.

Ya I do a fair amount of vector work in illustrator. I think a few things may appear a little fuzzy here and there because of the way they are saved. Still working on getting that perfected. Thanks for the advice

I have been reading here & there on the interweb that v3.0.1 RC is out there somewhere. On the official xda thread there are 2 members posting, stating that they are currently testing the new Viper X v3.0.2 ROM. If there is anyone out there with information on how to become a tester or to just be able to download the beta version. This would be most appreciated. Viper X was the first custom I downloaded and booted on my One X. Have tried many, many other ROM's & none compare. Some have this, some have that, but Viper X has it all... The best custom ROM I have seen full stop.
Hate to say but we have good bunch of beta testers already.

Take a chill pill bro It's just a ROM. It will be released when it's released. There are more important things in life . AFAIK, there's no way to just jump into the team and test. If you're itching for a JB ROM, there are others. If you want Viper, use the ICS version.

Hey guy, not appreciated... What do you know about me or my extensive linux programming experience. Android is just a hobby, please do not discourage those who could seriously have the goods to be become one of your almighty testers. Yes, there is a life other than android, and yes I can wait for the JB release, and yes I am still using the 2.71 ROM. Maybe there are others out there that look at things differently as to bring a fresh new idea into a world held so tight by only a few.
don't want to break it to you, but you are asking for a link to the beta, as you could have seen in the official thread there is no link and testing is a work in progress by a team that circles around Richmondo. If you wanted to apply as a betatester you just could have sent Rich a PM and you would have the answer.

I am very curious too about the Jelly Bean rom, i loved the ICS version and eagerly awaiting the next release and the one for the One X+
I too am very "frustrated" and waiting for a new version, but Richmondo's post calmed my feelings.
Can't say that i agree with the topic, but it's a try, and it's a more honest aprouch than yours.

My nonsense posts everyday....show me wich are nonsense, at least i make donations to the team and I try to give input with themer fisha and work out my ideas and edit apps for the red venom theme ......where is your oh so great input ... well you know definitely what you are talking about. Have you also seen how many useless posts i posted in the Q&A part of the forum.
My reaction was a polite one and not offensive to the OP, I also did not use any words to hurt the OP, just giving my opinion.....and I'm the least frustrated about the release....having fun with other roms and the viper ics, and having fun in the viper thread from time to time...if that is useless I would have had some infractions from the mods and not a click on the thanks button. Get your facts right. that you are frustrated about the release is not my problem.....

sorry OP i forgot to answer your question as i was side-tracked! ... to answer your question the dev @Rich wrote it will be uploaded next month around the 12th of Jan and the beta testing has just about finished
Not to offend anyone but I don't see the point to rushing the ROM and requesting for beta testing or ETA. When the developer & the Team feels comfortable they will release it. The Team had opened for beta testing when it was in ICS so if they need more they will open and intimate the users. Till then it's better it wait patiently, because unlike other ROMs there is a lot of work to get all the ViperX features ported to new version our I'm sure they are working as hard as they can to releases it to our community. I'm no Moderator but my suggestion would be to keep the discussion friendly.... Cheers
