[Official Unlocking Bootloader] HBOOT HTC Desire - Desire General

HTC is committed to assisting customers in unlocking bootloaders for HTC Desire:
http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PB9920000_Bravo_Froyo_hboot_1.03.0003_R.exe
http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PB9940000_BravoC_S-RUU_Alltel_UTSI_001-27_hboot_1.09.exe
http://www.htcdev.com/ruu/PB9940000_BravoC_S-RUU_UTSI_028-47_hboot_1.09.exe
After this you must reboot in FastBoot Mode and type in Command Prompt: fastboot oem get_identifier_tokenSubmit
Then submit the token in order to receive your unlock code binary file...
When copying the token, start with this line:
<<<< Identifier Token Start >>>>
And end with this line:
<<<<< Identifier Token End >>>>>
The difference with the official way is that you only unlock the bootloader. You don't get S-OFF so you can't make changes 'on the fly' with Android running, you'd need to do changes with the phone in HBOOT/fastboot mode.

Hi,
thanks man. I'll have a good play with this later today.

If you are using AlphaRev's HBOOT, you should flash downgrade hboot first to be able to flash any other hboot...

I tried this last night but when I tried to flash the unlock binary file it just sat there then came up failed.

the official way of unlocking bootloader. a bit more restrictive than true s-off (cant flash radio)
theres a thread with a little discussion about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431726

FYI.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=662710
Rom Development - only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY. Nothing else goes in here.
If you have developed a ROM, or are working with others to do so, the development forum is somewhere to discuss and share ideas, post useful feedback and logs or crash dumps, and to discuss a common goal developers are trying to achieve.
So remember... before you start a thread in development, ask yourself what you are developing. If you can't answer, then stop, step away from the post button, and think about where you are posting. Would it be better in General or Q&A, or is some more time with your best friend, search, required?

it's what I was thinking, what's the point of unlocking it with this.. and if you do that I bet you won't be able to flash an alpharev hboot since you can't roll back hboot version, and running revolutionary won't work since it's different hboot version.
That's my hypothesis on this anyway.

Yup. Correct. Unless you flash a hexedited version of this hboot, which has the version downgraded. Any guineapigs? It's useless, unless you plan to retain HTC's stock recovery to flash custom roms. Which again is useless..

Including me.. There's no way to be completely sure that the hexedited portion is the correct bit which decides the version. I flashed a hexedited hboot onto my device, and it did downgrade the version number displayed on the hboot screen, but that does not mean the version lock happens there.
But for fun, you can change the bit that says Alpharev/Revolutionary to whatever you like.

[Q]Downgrade HBOOT 1.01 to 0.80

I have noticed that is possible to be done for HTC Desire to downgrade HBOOT from 0.92 to 0.80 without any problems. Did anyone tried to downgrade HBOOT of Buzz ? In theory is it possible ? Thanks!
Desire != Wildfire
Anybody tried this methode ? does it work ?
I have done some search and I have found out it MIGHT be possible to do it. I got the recovery files in place extracted the rom from a RUU. Now I need some HexEdit search. Seems like the misc partition on Wildfire (were the current version is stored) is not in the same place as the one on Desire. So definitely
Wildfire != Desire
If i manage to find the right combination I will try to brick my phone latter on
good luck i hope it works downgrading not bricking
Just send your phones to me and i will S-Off them with my XTC clip ;-)
It is now possible, to downgrade a wildfire with android 2.2.1 and HBOOT 1.01...?

Downgrading worked for some time now, but, it only downgrades Android 2.2.1 to 2.1. The HBOOT remains intact. So, to answer your query, no, there is no downgrading method yet.
You can get S-OFF on the updated HBOOT though.
if i understand this right,
so i can downgrade to android 2.1 to flash 2.3 later?
sry my english is not really good and i think i understand that false

No. Because 2.3 is only available as a Custom ROM so far. And, to flash Custom ROM's you need to be rooted, which you cant do even if you downgrade to 2.1 because, as I said, the HBOOT cannot be downgraded.
Hope it is clear now.

Yes it is through a specific hardware device called the XTC Clip. You will have to buy one yourself or find someone who has one and is willing to S-OFF your Wildfire for you. Just a search around here should reveal the specifics. Not very sure on that.
This XTC Clip, what specifically does it do? Couldn't someone who has one work out exactly what is does and then put it online? Sorry if this sounds stupid.

haha, I knew that! I wondered what it actually did... Like change a system file or do something to the SD card which allowed the phone to have an S-OFF Hboot installed.
I own a HTC Desire Z, and I have downgraded my software including Hboot using this method .
I have tried the same thing on my girlfriend wildfire and I managed to obtain temporary root, but when I tried to change "misc_version" to 1.24.405.1 I got this error:
Code:
# /data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.24.405.1
--set_version set. VERSION will be changed to: 1.24.405.1
Patching and backing up partition 17...
Error opening input file.
I know that this files are specific for Desire Z, psneuter worked only after I have downloaded from somewhere else (I don't remember where), but maybe someone will manage to edit "misc_version" and make it work on wildfire, then it will be possible to downgrade everything including H-boot.
the partition table is different on each model. that's one of the reasons why it won't work..

I think the only thing we need is to edit the misc_version and make it work on wildfire, I don't know if this is a hard or easy thing to do, but after that nothing will stop us from downgrading H-boot and gain root access once again
I posted all the steps I did here, but nobody listens to me

No Need To Downgrade 2.13.401.2 anymore, HTCDEV released latest version

Good news for you guys having updated latest FOTA and lost unlocked bootloader. If downgrading did not work out for you, visit htcdev.com.
They released an official RUU for the latest firmware to be unlocked.
Also do wish me luck, bc latest FOTA bricked my device. Maybe I can revive it this way.
But nevertheless, no need to downgrade anymore.
To upgrade to 2.13.401.3 do i have to go back to stock recovery or does it work with cwm or goldcard ?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA App
I'm sorry, this has nothing to do with upgrading to 2.13.401.3.
This is just for telling people already having 2.13.401.3, that they now can unlock the bootloader with a HTCDEV RUU
Yes i know it, but i downloaded the ruu update.exe because i don't received the fota and i read somewhere on xda that we have to go back to stock recovery for update.
yes, that's right. but this is the wrong place for your question.

read title from theq86 this is news about official RUU for the latest firmware to be unlocked, so theres no need to downgrade if you want to unlock bl (if you're on 2.13.401.3)
In addition: there is only hboot file in the RUU-update That means that our phones will be always unlockable after flashing every next ROM update from HTC. No more outdated RADIO.

Huh, that's funny. If you listen to some people around here, HTC is a giant corporate gorilla that doesn't care about its peon customers or listen to them at all. They were never going to unlock the Wildfire S bootloader in the first place, and then after they did, they killed us with an RUU that relocks it just to torment us, and they were never going to solve that problem for us either.
Thanks HTC for listening to your customers... AGAIN!

Do global HTC One X's come with S-OFF?

I have owned an HTC Incredible and an HTC Rezound in the past, and I'm fairly certain they came with S-ON. (I have also owned about every Samsung phone in existence, its just my HTC expertise is limited).
Well, I didn't want the AT&T version of the HTC because I really like the Tegra3. So I got a Global Unlocked HTC One X. Great phone...but when I went to do the whole unlocking & rooting business I found this:

Yes you could've pushed it via an ZIP file using HBOOT so you've let HTC know for no reason

Htc one sv - question

Hi I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I bought the above phone and when I turn it on it seems to be some sort of development phone , and when I look at things like software information it says protected next to it. What I was wondering is will I be able to update this phone normally as and when software is available or will I have any sorts of problems or restrictions with it?
Thanks in advance.
Its possible it's been rooted and s-off, it's best to look in your app drawer and look for a app called "su" or turn off phone the hold vol down and power at the same time. You will go into boot loader, at the top if it say "s-off" then it's rooted and no way to do official updates but that's ok rooted /custom roms are better

Yes it means it didnt go through HTC Dev Unlock,(phone is still factory unlocked) and you have engineer Hboot(s-off) also you are SUPERCID, either a stock rom got flashed and removed "SU" or it could be called "superuser" check if you have that

Well the previous owner never did HTC Unlock, cause it would say "relocked" if he did a relock on the phone
Definitely no super user or su
So I should be unlocked for any network .
Does it matter if the boot loader is locked?
When I look at things like software version or processor etc it says protected , do you know why?
Also are there any Roms for this phone already do you know.

no that is Sim Unlock, SUPERCID and S-off means you are region free from the phone(superCID), and you have Fastboot capabilites(s-OFF)
i dont know if there is Roms for your phone, best choice is to google SV or do a search in here, if there is no SU or Superuser app next check if you have a custom recovery if you do then it will be very simple for you to flash a rom on to your phone, if you dont then there is some steps you need to do before you can do so

this is throwing me off a little bit, there is no real forums for the One SV, and i only found one root method, to even have s-off with a locked bootloader is weird, you may actually have a Developer Phone,

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113671
Most probably a dev phone. I thought at first that it could a test unit or an unreleased version but when I read mfg kernel my doubt was gone. Mfg allows even more stuff so there's still a chance you won't even need boot unlock even if it says otherwise. Keep in mind I'm just speculating.
A full backup of partitions could be handy for devs.

Note, it is highly recommended (mandatory?) to be on a normal sense-based ICS rom and using an unsecure (preferably stock based) kernel. If you get poor results with other configurations, don't bother asking for help please!
Enjoy.
support is at #rumrunners on freenode.
Thank you bro. Been a long time coming for the one v.
Thank's a lot !
Right now i relocked my bootloader, and i'm running a RUU. I'll attempt the S-OFF asap
i'll edit this post and update my progress, and with some luck, a SS of the bootloader telling "S-OFF"
wish me luck^^
Edit:
progress so far:
1. relocked bootloader >flashed RUU>unlocked bootloader>flashed latest TWRP> flashed super SU+ updated> launched super su to make sure the binarys are getting updated too, not just the app>reflash TK kernel>victory

2nd. launched soju.exe with administrator rights, waited for it to do all steps but installation failed.
it told me something along the lines of "no modifying the apk or tampering with the su binaries will help you" mor e or less.
i am retrying now and see what i missed

Damn! You beat me to posting!
S-Off on PrimoU, using Linux Mint 64 bit
BTW. The rom on this phone at the moment is myonev 3.5 with tk kernel
Funny how the PrimoU users have jumped on this first. lol
And, thank you for all the hours of beating on this phone
So, with a S-OFF device, we can install a ROM without using our PC to flash a kernel to it. This was a thing I loved so much with my old LG Optimus One (I see that device is still actually being developed actively). To test if this works, I just swapped over from MyOneV 3.5 (a 4.0.4 ROM requiring TK kernel) to Fabian's Mod, which is a continuation of CM 10 (a 4.1.2 ROM, requiring Hellboy CM 10 Kernel).
I have successfully booted into the ROM. No kernel push was required. Sweet!
does it flash a kernel in rom.zip automatically?

yes but often the kernel isn't upto date in the ROM zip because we've never been able to take advantage of S-OFF. As of the moment all my ROMs have S-OFF support except for MiDroid. NexusPrimo also has the wrong kernel included although it still boots with that kernel. All my other ROMs have updated kernels in them.
can anyone enlighten me to what is s-off?
Does having S-Off Device add any functionality ?
EDIT: Just for Confirmation..so that I don't Face any Problem... Do I need to Go back to stock rom and unroot the device in order to do S-OFF ?? And will Developing Custom ROMS on S-OFF device become easy ??

I used a VMware-workstation-full-10.0.1 with Ubuntu 12.10 X64, s-off My primou.
Is it compatible with W7? Cause as I see, everybody reporting successes are using linux-based systems :/

I used windows 7 and i had no issues with the installation.
good luck^^
@red de0392
OP said that it's recomended to use a SENSE based ROM, as close to stock as possible.
I ran a RUU and actually went 100% stock just because i'm a tryhard. People already reported succesful S-OFF using MySense by ckpv5
